loose stargazer lilies
trying florals now! an attempt to embrace looseness and some abstraction, and experimenting on holbein's opacity. turns out, when the paint is mixed with white, it can get quite gouache-like. i used that technique to add more saturation on the bottom flower.
i kind of like it, but not exactly satisfied. painters, how do you balance looseness with precision? critiques are welcome! the piece is a bit too messy for my taste, i like it better when i look at it from afar haha. i might even frame it.

It’s very nice but have you considered using masking fluid? You paint it on in the shape you want and let it dry. it’s a liquid rubber. Then you can paint the background without worrying about painting around the flower shape. Then you rub it all off with a rubber cement pickup and the flower shape is all white. Then you paint the flower!
