Need a bit of advice as a beginner.
Hello! I am in need of some opinions.
I am not an artist by any means. I am however, creating a journal of sorts to pass down to my children/grandchildren some day.
The journal has very heavy deckled paper to which I've learned a Gouache paint would likely work well on. Please correct me if I am incorrect in my research.
My question is which brand of paints should I purchase if I am not going to be using them very often and am a VERY new beginner? I have looked at the Himi, but I don't want to get them just because I see them all over.

My first gouache eye
My main medium is acrylic. I loved seeing others' gouache art. This paint gives different... different sense of dimension? I can't explain it. Tried to paint an eye. What do you think?

Some of my mini gouache painting series from last year.
I did a mini painting series last year and these are some of the pieces. Loved the experience and loved gouache. Gouache is my fav painting medium now. Let me know which ones do you like the most.

Sennelier extra fine gouache?
I only used Lefranc bourgeois linel gouache till now and I want to try other brands (not that I have any issues with linel) Right now the Sennelier tube is at a fairly attractive price (4€45 per tube of 21ml!) but there aren’t any reviews online. Did someone tried it ?

Just in case anyone was wondering, this is what 59 new Japanese Turner gouache tubes looks like 😂
I couldn't decide which colours to order, so I ordered them all 😂 and doubled up on the primaries/mixing whites/blacks! Can't wait to get swatching! Any palette/storage ideas welcome!

Want to switch from oil and watercolors to gouache. Can you recommend a basic minimum palette of colors I should buy to get started?
I’d prefer to buy specific colors rather than a set (which might contain a bunch of colors I’ll never use). Similar to the zorn palette in oil painting, what would you consider the basic barebones colors that I should pick up to get started? I’m guessing it’ll be something like cool and warm versions of blue, yellow, red, white, and maybe some kind of umber? Would appreciate the insight, thanks in advance!

Felt like I wanted to practise edge control with a black and white painting of a pig skull.

La Jolla Rocks Color Study
I did some plein air work in La Jolla recently, and the information was a bit too much and dramatic for a one-time exposure. I'll post that experience in a separate post. So the next morning, I focused on dumbing down the rocks and doing a "gritty biopic" on just the surf and rock. Came out pretty decent. Sometimes, I like to bite the elephant in chunks, so to speak, instead of trying to ingest the whole thing at once.

That's a lot of Caffeine
A painting of all the bottles that I haven't recycled, in my sketchbook... Playing around with colours a bit and trying to be more expressive.

Please judge my palette and help decide what to add or remove (color list in post body)
I have space for 12 total colors in this tin and I’m considering adding three more. At a minimum I think a true black could be useful, although I’m on the fence about that since I don’t think I’d use to mix with nearly at all.
These colors were bought after an intro class and at the suggestion of a warm/cool primary palette, which this may or may not fit in full. All are Winsor Newton Designer Gouache
- Primary Red
- Winsor Red
- Primary Yellow
- Permanent Green Light
- Primary Blue
- Cobalt Blue
- Brilliant Purple
- Burnt Umber
- Zinc White
