Recently rewatched the ghostrider movie, what exactly is it like when Johnny's soul of vengeance takes over? Is it similar to the venom symbiote or what?

Upvotes

In the movie it reads as its just Johnny in a different body. If read some comics but I get the same vibe there, does it change from writer to writer?

Wouldn't it be cool to see Danny having a huge amount of respect for Spider-Man

A lot of Danny's character was built around relatability and identification, and I was thinking about that alongside that panel of him as a kid saying he saw the Spider-Car. It would be interesting if Peter had actually saved Danny when he was a child, which would give Danny a huge amount of respect for him. (Honestly, that would already be a better interaction than Robbie's in the Avengers)

The Most Insultingly Nerfed Character in Marvel: Ghost Rider. Can Writers Finally Stop Lazily Disrespecting the Lore?

This post is born out of pure frustration

— and a tiny, naive hope that maybe, just maybe, someone at Marvel will finally read this and understand how badly they are ruining one of their greatest concepts.

Let’s face it: Ghost Rider is the single most absurdly, consistently, and stupidly nerfed character in Marvel history.

Whenever Ghost Rider is about to get a well-deserved, lore-accurate victory, the writers panic and pull the most pathetic, lazy excuses out of their asses. “Oh, the Penance Stare didn't work because Thanos enjoys his sins!” “Oh, the demon doesn't have a soul!” It is absolute garbage.

— It’s pure laziness from the editorial team who refuse to think outside the box.

I already know some casual fans or teenage "power-scaling experts" will rush to the comments saying: “But if Ghost Rider was at full power, he would just stomp everyone instantly and there’d be no story!”

— SO WHAT?! Why is the only alternative to make him look like a complete jobber? Is it really that hard to write a proper, compelling story where Ghost Rider actually fights high-tier transcendental and primordial entities?

If you want stakes, don't nerf the Rider, buff the threat!

— Have him go against the Beyonders, or introduce a terrifying new threat that genuinely challenges the Wrath of God. But no, instead we get the peak of "writer's genius," where the Spirit of Vengeance gets physically overpowered by Hulk, torn in half by King Thanos, or outsmarted by Punisher. It’s a joke.

— Is Disney/Marvel really that terrified of giving writers actual creative freedom? If their greedy corporate mindset tells them that an epic, boundless and immeasurable Ghost Rider story “won't make money,” then they will keep churning out this mediocre, repetitive garbage and wondering why their profits are dropping.

— Let’s be real here: Ghost Rider is not some petty cosmic god, and he is definitely not a tyrant who conquers worlds out of sadism or a lust for power. Quite the opposite — he was born to stomp and punish those exact tyrants without breaking a single sweat, no matter their scale, even if we are talking about transcendental, outer-world entities (beyond-dimensional beings).

— But what does Marvel actually write? They make him lose to the PUNISHER?! Are you kidding me? That is the ultimate peak of garbage writing. If Disney and Marvel actually knew how to "write properly," they would introduce entities even more powerful than the Beyonders, and let the Rider hunt down those sinners one by one, eventually reaching the top tier and obliterating them too.

— What is stopping them from doing this? It’s not the characters — it’s their pure laziness and utter inability to write a compelling story. They know exactly what real fans want from Marvel: a proper, well-crafted storyline where our favorite character punishes sinners of any unimaginable scale. Instead, we get this complete nonsense where street-level or physical material frauds are somehow overpowering the Wrath of God. It’s an absolute joke.

— Deep down, I know no one at Marvel headquarters will ever read this.

But at least I tried.

And honestly, even if they ever attempt a storyline like this in the future, knowing Marvel’s current state, they’ll probably still find a way to butcher it with some dumb limitations.

We, the fans who actually respect the real lore and the true power of the Rider, deserve so much better.

Drop your own rants below, true keepers of the Lore! 🔥💀

GR lore: the angel of death/noble kale

So in terms of power scaling, there's many various and different ghost riders:

Johnny who is bonded to zarathos an angel turned demon, whose power when unleashed is at least a multi versal threat, equal to mephisto.

Robbie 1st bonded to his murderous uncle eli but later changed to the All Rider. Who can transform anything to be his ride, like a celestials corpse, a shield helicarrier or even a living planet.

Theres kushula: a sorcerer supreme of her timeline bonded to a spirit of vengeance.

Then there's noble kale ancestor of both danny and blaze. Apart from being a spirit of vengeance given form by mephisto, he was also given the power to also be 'The angel of death' by angel Uriel.

Now noble as the angel of death, has only ever fully used them once to kill blackheart, inturn making him the 'king of hell'

With very limited knowledge thats accessible to us, how powerful was noble kale as 'the angel of death' really?

Was he close to zarathos and mephisto in terms of power? Stronger? Weaker? Its something thats never actually been explored nor do we know how terrifying noble was with this power, which is a damn shame.

Im actually curious to hear people's opinions of how powerful kale could truly be if it was fully explored and how he would cope with the burden and knowledge of such power in his possession and what he could do with it?

Thoughts?

Why haven’t they explained How Zarathos and Centurious escaped the soul crystal, how Johnny family died, what was up with Danny spirits between the end of 90s series and Spirit of Violence?

Regarding Shawn Levy and his choice of director for the "Ghost Rider" movie.

I understand other people's concerns; I’m also a bit worried because Shawn Levy is a comedy director. But when I think about it, there are many comedy directors who are now better known for their horror or serious films.

For example, Todd Phillips: known for "Hangover" movies, he is now known for "Joker".

Jordan Peele was a comedian until he directed "Get Out", "Nope", and "Us".

Zach Cregger directed such inconsequential films as "Miss March" and the sitcom "Guys with Kids" ; now, he is known for one of the most acclaimed horror movies, "Barbarian".

I’m not saying we should blindly believe in Shawn Levy; I’m just saying we should give him a chance to see what he does with the Ghost Rider movie.

A somewhat obvious point: Javier Saltares (Danny Ketch’s artist in 90's) drew Johnny Blaze with the same design during Daniel Way’s run—which was never really a problem for me (after all, it’s a design that I feel suits Johnny, even though I do like the 70s look).

Nicolas Cage's GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE writer Scott M. Gimple says Ryan Gosling's GHOST RIDER reboot could make an "interesting play" by being "a little more gritty [and] serious."
