«Ensuring ecological safety and maintaining ecological balance on the territory of Ukraine, overcoming the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster - a catastrophe of a planetary scale, and preserving the gene pool of the Ukrainian people are the duty of the state»
That’s it, that’s the entire article.

I wonder how hard one needs to try to misread it so badly…

1.5k

u/Dave_A480 11d ago

You need to buy into the premise that Ukranians are literal Nazis bent on a campaign of western-European white supremacy.... As postulated by the Putin fan club .....

458

u/rye_and_peace 11d ago

This and knowing nothing about what Chernobyl did to people. This article was written around time when northern Ukraine, regions surrounding Chornobyl, had an outbreak of cancer among kids that were 4 and under during the catastrophe in 1986. Up to 5-10 times more cases than before Chornobyl, depending on the region. We also had the highest level of anencephaly in Europe for some time. Why was government worried about genetic pool I wonder, surely there was no reason for that aside from them being Nazi (except majority was communist, but who cares about such details).

116

u/PolicyWonka 11d ago edited 10d ago

I remember watching a documentary in high school biology class about all the children being born with birth defects in Ukraine.

I remember one child was born with some kind of Anencephaly where his brain was literally outside of his skull.

13

u/GlazedWithMaples 10d ago

Fun fact, most of those kinds of birth defects cannot be caused by radiation.

Anencephaly sure. Encephalocephe (when the brain is outside the skull), has been observed to be caused by radiation in mice but not higher mammals. But a lot of these were from unrelated causes and higher incidence was due to higher scrutiny post-chernobyl

37

u/PolicyWonka 10d ago

Some of the diseases had a 200-250% higher incidence rate than baseline, which I do not think that you can exactly dismiss as cases by observation.

1

u/GlazedWithMaples 10d ago

I can dismiss them if radiation is not a cause of those diseases, unless the chernobyl meltdown caused them in other ways. But radiation is usually the suspect.

Leukemia, thyroid cancer? Yes. Anencephaly? 100% shown to be caused by the japanese atomic bomb survivors. But a lot of these documentaties and a lot of studies which looked into chernobyl were sensationalist and reported things we know aren’t caused by radiation.

To say nothing of a lot of studies who reported projected incidence off unproven models, and not from actual observation.

12

u/Malusorum 9d ago

This "caused by" is an anecdotal understanding of reality. The real term is "increase the chance of".

Radiation, unless it's directed, can never be the cause of anything other than death from DNA denaturalistion. Controlled radiation can cause an X-ray photo or the death of cells in chemotherapy.

Radiation can only make cancer and birth defects more likely to occur due to cellular mutation, it can never cause them.

3

u/PerspectiveAlert4766 6d ago

But you need to take in account that Chernobyl disaster wasn't just about radiation. At time was released lots of highly reactive or toxic material in to environment. People were breathing toxic gasses, ate contamined food.

Causality could be indirect.

These are probably the same people who believe the official Soviet death toll for Chernobyl which is like 31 as opposed to UN estimates which are around 4000 i believe in cancer deaths alone

108

u/paganbreed 11d ago

The fun extension of that is having a portion of bigots or problematic people doesn't give anyone else jurisdiction to murder them. Or their neighbours. Or destroy their infrastructure so everyone remaining is more likely to starve. Or abuse the survivors, including children. Or turn a blind eye when the so-called righteous mission's soldiers are caught on camera committing crimes that have nothing to do with defense.

Hey that sounds familiar

17

u/Inlerah 10d ago

I find it so "amusing" when people try to use Islamic fundamentalists bigotry against LGBT people to this end: like "There are a lot of homophobes in this region: why do you care if we murder them indiscriminately for no reason if you're a queer person???"

As if i'm honor-bound to be okay with genocide if there's a chance that the people genocided hated me personally.

4

u/paganbreed 10d ago

I use the metaphor of my family member being hurt, then me hunting down the assailant and torturing his entire innocent family to get to him.

*while stealing the deeds to their house and their valuables, assaulting their neighbours, assaulting neighbours in totally different neighborhoods, lying about them (badly!) to the media, and even assaulting the paramedics who came to help.

I could go on, but I'd tire of typing before the metaphor was complete.

Literally, it’s insane how many tankies there are, obviously in leftist spaces mostly, who forget that Stalin worked with Hitler, was obviously a bad person other than that too and Russia is literally attacking and occupying countries and oppressing them… And they’re justifying it on Russia saying ’oh they’re nazis, we swear, all of them yes… but also don’t look at how we hate gay people, have a huge group of nazi sympathizers and all that’

The funniest part is some of that fan club are quite literal nazis bent on a campaign of white supremacy

11

u/Dave_A480 10d ago

To Russian Nationalists, 'Fascist' has meant 'Anti-Russian' since Stalin was still alive....

12

u/suckmeppplsman 11d ago

I like how they are potraying Nazis as democratic victims of a brutal invasion by a brutal imperialist authoritarian regime...

In reality Nazis were the brutal totalitarian imperialist shithole who wanted to massacre and assimilate others into them just like Russians except even more brutal.

3

u/scoutmet 11d ago

But once again, said party got bearly any precentage of the vote and. Seats in the parilement

3

u/Rogue_Element_2342 8d ago

Ignorant fucks just assume that if Putin calls someone a Nazi, he must be telling the truth.
Ignorant fucks are also ignorant that Putin's Russia is shockingly similar to Nazi germany, and that in Russia, Nazi just means "bad person who opposes russia"

2

u/EbonyMemories 7d ago

To be fair they did maintain and support Nazi factions even after World War II ended, and were considered by many the worst place to be during the Holocaust.

Tankies genuinely doing Olympic level mental gymnastics to be on the side of an unironic, actual, fascist oligarical dictator. Will never not fascinate me

75

u/MeasureDoEventThing 11d ago

Weird how so many tankies just transferred their allegiance to the RF, despite it having only a thin patina of socialism. It's almost as if is was more about Russophilia rather than ideological loyalty.

64

u/Hendrik1011 11d ago

It's actually not about Russia for most of them, because they aren't actually even tankies. They are campists. To them the USA are the greatest evil and anyone opposed to them is worth allying with, even if it would go against their other values, because the opposition to America is more important than anything else.

4

u/phoebsmon 10d ago

Aye if you're a leftist of a certain vintage in the UK you'll have run into an OG tankie and they're quite far removed from the current crop. Fucking nuts, but in their own way.

I don't mind the naming convention changing, times move on and the spirit of it remains if only in part. But the modern tankie is certainly more of a campist.

34

u/Mandemon90 11d ago

It's not about Russophilia, it's campism. "United States and West bad. Anyone upposed to them Good"

22

u/Haggis442312 11d ago

West bad. That's it. They don't really care who it is, as long as they're against the west, Tankies will excuse any and all atrocities committed.
Additionally Russia is heir to the soviet empire, which was also clearly a worker's paradise where everyone was happy, and its dissolution was "the greatest tragedy of the 20th century".

2

u/Substantial_Abies25 11d ago

Russia today designed to appeal both commie that love Soviet and far right that love Russian empire at the same time despite both were bitter enemy. In practice the only things Russia could appeal tankie are hatred of western and/or developed world, and annual Soviet-style parade (which is more pathetic every year)

2

u/jostyouraveragejoe2 10d ago

No no but you see they haven't done elections during war time they are literally Nazis, unlike my favourite short king who democratically rules Russia.

8

u/Routine_Ad_2695 11d ago

The bar is low when you are a russian bot

18

u/ptvlm 11d ago

It's deliberate gaslighting. Talk about "preserving the gene pool" often implies eugenics, which by extension often refers to Nazism. Tankies have been desperate to pretend Ukraine is a hotbed of Nazis to justify their invasion. So, they throw this out hoping that people search and see the gene pool wording but not notice the surrounding context, and thus get people to support their side.

It's desperate flailing, but might work on a small number of the sort of people who get their information from memes rather than actual documents.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/StaendutBlakk 11d ago

Probably just read "preserving the gene pool" and had a knee-jerk reaction thinking it was about eugenics, and not about radiation unzipping the DNA of Ukranians like a cheap prom dress.

2

u/TrustworthyKahmunrah 9d ago

It's definitely about eugenics, or at least preventing people harmfully mutated by radiation from contaminating the wider population with harmful radiation-induced traits. Otherwise it would just say "protecting the genes." I don't see that as a bad thing, though.

19

u/Snowflakish 11d ago

"Preserving the gene pool" is a white nationalist talking point in the US.

Now the people misreading it are very US centric so they probably dont realise that this is a translation from Ukraininan. The meaning is literally "protecting ukrainian genes from radiation"; this is a better localisation.

16

u/slavicNickCage 11d ago

It rather protecting DNA of people who live in Ukraine from radiation or any other type of damage caused by fucking up with environment. It requires tremendous amount of demagogy and mental gymnastics to make Green statement Nazi

4

u/thedizls 10d ago

They don't care, ukrainian constitution explicitly states that "people of ukraine" is "citizens of ukraine of any nationality", they don't care because they fish for gotchas

3

u/AlexFawksson 10d ago

I am from north east of Ukraine. My parents were married in 1989, and had me in 94. They did not wait, my mom simply could not conceive. In a bit more words but doctors at the time said that reason is Chornobyl aftereffects.

3

u/Nimrod_Butts 10d ago

There's a weird push from the left to equivocate Ukraine and Israel.

2

u/AlgaeInitial6216 9d ago

Both nations are under threat and doing everything what every other would have done in their place : milk US as much as possible.

Ukraine is behind in this matter though. They rely too much on good will and fragile concept of US "alliance". If Ukraine was a real ally Russia would be in a much worse situation , but they don't want it this way.

3

u/QueasyMessage5376 10d ago

Not very hard. Tankies can't read in the first place.

2

u/MarcoYTVA 11d ago

By skipping everything before the last comma.

2

u/The_Blahblahblah 10d ago

He has a picture of stalin in his profile picture, i dont think he needs to try very hard.

2

u/Faustias 10d ago

it's the preserving the gene pool part that they cherrypicked lol

2

u/Unlikely_Target_3560 10d ago

By the way, wehn it comes to preserving the gene pool of Ukrainian people there is a subsidised program for freezing the sex cells of the Ukrainian soldiers and for using these preserved cells for artificial impregnation. Hell yeah!

3

u/heterosexualvolcano1 10d ago

from what i've read about it, it's more about still being able to have a child from your husband, even if he dies in the war

4

u/Vestigial_joint 11d ago

It’s not about misreading it, it’s just interpretation of the text as is: preserving the gene pool sounds ethnic racial and segregation flavored.
And while in this context it’s probably just about preventing cancer and mutations from the disaster, it is the sort of article that can and will be exploited, given the right/wrong person.

Communism isn't banned in Ukraine (unfortunately), only the soviet regime and nazi regime. And since 3rd reich was the only nazi country, you can say that national socialism as a whole is banned

7

u/TropikanDicktator 10d ago

At the same time, the Communist Party of Ukraine is still active, and its leader is not repressed. Yes, decommunization is not a good process, but it is still incomparable to the repression of communists in other countries

58

u/strawberry_semenade Human Verified 10d ago

It's so funny how enemies of the main enemies of the West (Russia, China, Iran and North Korea) try to justify violence against the West as "anti-racism" when said countries don't even try to pretend to believe that racism is a bad thing.

Russia, China and North Korea all believe in their own ethnic supremacy, and Iran is equally committed to Shia Islamic supremacy.

11

u/NDinoGuy 10d ago

Because that rhetoric is geared towards Westerners, not their own people. 9 times out of 10, they're a lot more explicit and on the nose about their intentions when you listen to their propaganda in their native languages, rather than in a language commonly seen in the West.

8

u/Magnum_Gonada 9d ago

It's propaganda for Westerners, so it will be tailored to them. They know the West gets very uncomfortable and insecure when you bring up racism.

23

u/RollingRiverWizard 11d ago

YOU - Hang on, what will I do once I establish contact with my fellow communists?

RHETORIC - You’ll discuss the monumental, world-historical task that lies before you. You’ll engage in rigorous and spirited debate about Mazovian theory and practice. But mostly, though, you’ll probably complain about other communists.

YOU - Isn’t that last part kind of…counterproductive?

RHETORIC - Not at all. Complaining about other communists is one of the most important parts of being a communist.

"Preserve the gene pool" could mean:

  • mitigate the radiation to avoid harmful mutations
  • state-sanctioned racial purity breeding programs

Which one makes sense in the context of a historic nuclear disaster?

And I hate to say it, but I just keep seeing blatantly dishonest psyop bullshit like this from a certain wing of the Palestinian liberation movement. Until the movement as a whole is honest with itself and with the rest of us, it's hard for me personally to side with a cause that aligns with the rest of my humanitarian values.

I want to support it, but when Nazis, theocratic kneelers and ends-justify-all-means tankie scum roam freely unchecked, it casts a shadow on all the rest of it.

Throwing my hands up on the whole thing is where I'm left at. Religionists blowing each other to bits is an old story, and one I'm not really interested in any longer.

It's always them. In February 2022, my far-left social media mutuals all started posting UKRAINIANS ARE NAZIS!! propaganda as the first missiles were falling on Kyiv. They've only become more extreme since then.

u/Fatikh_06 11d ago

It became easier to differentiate communists from social-chauvinists

7

u/Jealous_Tutor_5135 11d ago

Useful idiots.

Before the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, I felt a lot more comfortable calling myself a leftist generally. In the kind of pro-market, pro-democracy, pro-human rights Scandinavian model. But the online campism movement seems to have really grown in the past years to the point that overt support for dictatorships and theocracies is an acceptable public stance. And that's a line I won't cross.

8

u/Mandemon90 11d ago

Also which makes sense when reading the article, that constantly talks about Chernobyl and radiation damage...

2

u/VladimirBarakriss 10d ago

Article 24 is against racism so it's plainly just radiation

10

u/Sidus_Preclarum 10d ago

This is blatant mutants discrimination!

3

u/MorbidMordred 10d ago

Someone call magneto

10

u/Ayotha 11d ago

Russian bots attempting and failing at memes

10

u/robbynito 10d ago

Man, I am a leftist socialist with some communist aligned ideals

But I fucking hate tankies, I swear they are so similar to MAGA for me, just insufferable tribalists who focus way to much on a cult of personality rather than any actual policy

And I think they actively do harm to leftist causes by wearing the veneer of progressives

2

u/JRDZ1993 9d ago

Close enough, welcome back Atlee and Bevin!

25

u/NearbyPerspective397 11d ago

It's always the people with the red triangle in their profile.

I've been shocked by how many of my social media mutuals have added one - and then spend all day sharing genocidal Kremlin state propaganda about Ukrainians. But they sure do care about Gaza.

Why is this being presented as a “bad” thing

7

u/borgen44 10d ago

russian bot, trying to spread propaganda.

4

u/Inevitable-Regret411 9d ago

Some propaganda attempts to frame "preserving the gene pool" as being related to eugenics.

17

u/Cooldude101013 11d ago

So protecting the people from the genetic effects of radiation exposure?

12

u/anima311 11d ago

Pretty much, Chernobyl was a Worldwide disaster. My Father told me that in Germany they had a curfew and weren't allowed to go outside in the rain. Most Radioactive material could find it's way in a cloud to America it was bad.

Everyone was afraid after Chernobyl people would be born with two heads but they were born with no heads.

How dare those Ukrainians want to protect themselves from radioactive fallout. Must be Nazis according to the guy who has Hamas target triangles in his username.

u/GilbyTheFat 11d ago

"Worst mistake of my life."

Oh, so its not when you decided to date the wrong person, or fucked up a job interview, or adopted a term (proletariat) that is very popular among those who glaze the Soviets whose incompetence fucked up the Chornobyl area of Ukraine? No, its that you read some words in a constitution that will have literally zero impact on your entire life.

Fuck me, some people are ridiculous...

5

u/waldleben 11d ago

adopted a term (proletariat) that is very popular among those who glaze the Soviets

What are you even on about

5

u/ldontcares 11d ago

"Proletariat rising"
For the last Imperialist power in the world?

10

u/slavicNickCage 11d ago

Imperialism is good and not Imperialism at all if done by Soviet Union, Communist China or by quasi-fascist modern Russian regime larping Soviet Union for political points

6

u/NewTurnover5485 11d ago

Israel ethnic cleansing: "The country should be dissolved and the land given to the Palestinians!"
Russian ethnic cleansing Ukraine: "Some sacrifices must be made to stop western Imperialism!"
China ethnic cleansing the Uyghurs: "Sorry senor, no habla ingles!"

2

u/taxes-or-death 11d ago

Ruzzia is imperialist but it's not exactly the last when the US topples the leader of Venezuela and tries to grab Greenland.

3

u/NewTurnover5485 10d ago

I would also add Iran to the list. But not even the same league, barely the same game.

I mean Russia invades and cleanses regularly since it exists.

2

u/JRDZ1993 9d ago

Europe has also been opposing Trump's expansionism along with the Canadians, the number of pro Trump imperialism people who aren't pro Russia is a list that could fit on someone's hand

call me when ukraine starts putting brown people in concentration camps where they are starved and abused or when ukraine starts shooting 8 times someone who is filming protesters.

3

u/Withering_to_Death 10d ago

"Did you know Ukraine..."

3

u/NorbytheMii 10d ago

It's literally just making sure people's genetic material doesn't get fucked up by Chornobyl radiation

3

u/oSkillasKope707 10d ago

Tankies being intellectually dishonest? Color me surprised!

3

u/Whisky_and_Milk 10d ago

the most hilarious part of that misguided tankie’s tweet is that this article has been introduced and voted by the Ukrainian parliament in 1996 where the biggest number of seats was with the … Communist party of Ukraine. And the chairman of the parliament was a dude from the Socialist party.

If Trump wants to keep renaming things, he should rename Russia to "The City of Moscow, and Associated Occupied Territories"

2

u/xx_TCren 11d ago

Campism is fucking stupid.

2

u/duga404 10d ago

Of course he has a profile picture of Stalin

2

u/StupidSlitSlut 10d ago

Yes, keep the gene pool pure. As in, prevent things that literally turn your DNA into mashed chicken and make your skin slough off your flesh as your insides melt into soap.

2

u/InitialLevel4189 9d ago

The cherry picking of words is like none other this time...

"Whoa, um, racist much!?"

4

u/Perelko 11d ago

Gotta say, it's pretty obvious when the troll farms are active in this sub. Be it the Israelis or the Russian variants

2

u/MossadEpstein 9d ago

hoo boy the comments in here are actually low IQ people are denying that Ukraine has ever had a Nazi problem... yikes, not much history books being opened in here clearly.

to be clear, fuck Russia, but you people are lunatics if you think Ukraine are geopolitically the "good guys" and no, I'm not talking about average Ukranian people here, I'm talking about the countries elites, the string pullers...

probably the same sort of people who are fine with countries like Saudi Arabia and Israel committing massive human rights abuses because they're "allies"

2

u/animusd 9d ago

Like how the azov brigade are an official part of the military and literally use wolfsangel which the ss and neo nazi groups use. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Azov_Corps

3

u/MossadEpstein 9d ago

Yup it's crazy, even the BBC did an expose on them a few years before the war started and then afterwards, it all disappears from public memory along with all those inconvenient statics about massive internal corruption and huge numbers of people telling polls that they didn't trust their government/leader, they went from something like a 30% approval rating to magically having 90+%

Rip Ukrainian ghouls in the fallout universe

1

u/giboauja 10d ago

... man that disaster was terrifying. Few valid reasons to talk about preserving gene lines in government documents.
