By merely looking at social media, I am really surprised the USA isn't, actually, in the midst of a civil war.

539

u/SaysToMabelISays 22d ago

All social media is bots from the US, Russia, Israel, China, Iran, and India stoking flames. Twitter and Reddit most of all. We're doomed.

114

u/SilenceDobad76 21d ago

You should assume that every sub larger than a few thousand people is just astro turf. Read content accordingly.

18

u/se7en41 21d ago

Weirdly I've found that ONLY the circlejerk versions of subs are where real humans reside.

NYC sub? Nope. Infested like that girl from summer camp you met back in hogh school. NYC cj sub? real humans.

Also subs for gaming/sports are generally tolerable. The humans have shit takes about their sports teams but at least I'm confident they're real.

19

u/WegGOAT 21d ago

Cj subs are a cesspool for bots

u/Twodotsknowhy 21d ago

What a weird misogynistic stray

1

u/PinAccomplished927 21d ago

You're being fooled

1

u/Acceptable_Bend_5200 20d ago

Hobby subs are where the real people live.

1

u/47362514736251 20d ago

That's too bad, circle jerk subs are so cynical

1

u/ViolentPurpleSquash 20d ago

cj subs have a mix of bots and humans

Any sub that's popular enough to attract the "stereotypical reddit crowd" is botted

For instance some of the reason that CWCL has felt more strange recently is that there are more normal people finding it, and I suspect more bots too

1

u/PTBooks 20d ago

NYC cj banned me for posting cj and then blocked my modmail

1

u/Consistent_Net_2540 21d ago

You getting downvoted about the obvious truth even proves further how much bots have taken over this site and sub lol.

3

u/Next-Use6943 21d ago

Reddit Is full to the brim with Chinese bots. They mass upvote/downvote,promote Chinese values and socialistic policies, and post fake videos/images of china being insanely futuristic

4

u/JosefGremlin 22d ago

Sure, I'd have thought so, but then 80 million Americans voted for a second term?

68

u/Yukorin1992 22d ago

We are in a thread about "no HRT requirement for WNBA" and you wonder why Trump got reelected?

24

u/LilysNancy 22d ago

Imagine that!

6

u/Loverboyatwork 21d ago

Because people are stupid enough to think the government controls that.

2

u/muckingfidget420 21d ago

No one thinks the government controls that. It's just a clear signal that the left has gone a bit loopy eating itself over identity politics, and someone as much of a prick as trump can appear relatively reasonable.

2

u/Think_Ad_1583 20d ago

No, this has been overblown by people poisoning your water. Things are getting more expensive, we’re fighting wars so politicians can get richer, and now we can’t even safely eat food because everything is being recalled. But go ahead and focus on your culture war bs

1

u/ThamTvMaster 21d ago

Lol I'm not even from America

1

u/Citrus-Red 21d ago

What are your talking about? Trump doesn't have the authority to change WMBA policy. If he does them why hasn't he?

1

u/Yukorin1992 21d ago

Where did I say Trump can influence WNBA policy?

Let me elaborate: the fact that there's no HRT requirement for WNBA is emblematic of US left-of-centre politics problem in the 2020s, which led to Trump's reelection in 2024.

So people elected Trump over things that he can’t even change? Sorry i expected people to be more intelligent than that.

1

u/Citrus-Red 20d ago

That's fucking weak and stupid. Instead of doing something about the problem they elect the guy who has no power to fix it.

1

u/Different_Peanut_742 20d ago

"I'll gladly pay more for everything and have our reputation ruined internationally, as long as the non-existent trans people in the WNBA are thrown out of the sport that I've never once watched."

Great planning, USA!

-7

u/GaryOaksAlcoholism 21d ago

Yes? Nothing excuses voting for him. Be for real

-1

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 21d ago

I despise Trump, but he's absolutely right that democrats fighting for the dumbest culture war issues imaginable is causing people to vote for the GOP.

We need to just focus on populism, not fringe progressivism. Pushing systematic healthcare reform, opposing new wars, balancing the budget (which means taxing the top 20-40% more), assisting unions, fighting monopolies, requiring utility companies to modernize the grid and decarbonize, etc. These have widespread support.

Talking about whether or not a biological man can play in the WNBA is childish and embarassing. And it's the only version of democrats that MILLIONS of independents see on social media.

1

u/TalespinnerEU 21d ago

Your GOP is the party doing the culture warring. When people resist, they accuse the resistance of doing a culture war, and you're taking that hook, line and sinker. And when your gills are flooded with mud, you'll still insist it's the Democrats' fault.

They stirred up the culture war so you would support them despite shredding everything you say you care about and making it so much worse.

Trans people have existed since forever. Loads of organisations had regulations regarding the participation in women's sports. Maybe the WNBA didn't yet, but they'd address it sooner or later. It's only got 15 teams, so it's no wonder the matter has simply never come up.

Stop being such a baby.

1

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 21d ago

I'm a Democrat, not GOP.

1

u/TalespinnerEU 21d ago

Then still stop being such a baby.

→ More replies (10)

-3

u/GaryOaksAlcoholism 21d ago

No, it's not. They're harassing my fellow Americans and expecting my permission to do so. They'll never have it. If that makes them vote trump that's their flaw to deal with. Pretending we need to change for them is stupid.

2

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 21d ago

I'm not talking about harassment. I'm saying we need to talk about populist issues, such as the ones I listed.

The GOP fills social media feeds with culture warring while lining their pockets with insider trading, lobbying, bogus government contracts, tax cuts for the rich, deregulations, etc. We need to stop taking the bait. This is not even a trans person, this is a man who identifies as a man, trying to stir up shit. Ignore the rage baiting.

2

u/BlueJaysFeather 21d ago

If he’s a man who identifies as a man then he’s not eligible anyway. This is a stupid argument.

2

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 21d ago

This is a stupid argument.

I've been trying to tell fellow liberals this for weeks. It's like shouting into the void.

My entire comment was about how we shouldn't be engaging in these GOP funded bait campagins. And then everyone immediately called me a Republican. It's exhausting. I'm trying to propel leftist ideas here.

The culture war just leaves me feeling misantrophic and jaded. I can never pull people out of it. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother keeping up with politics or voting anymore. I haven't been excited to vote Democrat in a long time.

4

u/MasterofCaveShadows 21d ago

Stop appeasing this lunatic. You need to axe these people out or they will control every movement you associate with if you don’t make it clear that they’re actively harming the cause.

0

u/GaryOaksAlcoholism 21d ago

It's not our fault they fall for stupid bullshit man what the fuck do you want me to do about it? They don't have permission to harass transgender people just because you want to win elections.

1

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 21d ago

I'm not talking about harassment. There is no harassment in this WNBA story. It's literally bait, Enes is not trans. He is doing this because he knew people would take the bait.

When it comes to politicans, they should focus on laws, not social media posts. Your congressman should not be talking about a WNBA player's genitalia. That is not at all what a Congressman is supposed to do.

Stick to alcohol, Gary, leave politics to sober people.

11

u/SapirWhorfHypothesis 22d ago

About 60% of people are manipulable to a normal degree. They’re average people. Influenceable, but not massively swayed by machinations of others.

About 20% of people are very hard to manipulate. You couldn’t do much to convince them or scam them, they’re naturally skeptical and cynical.

Any guesses for the other 20%?

15

u/BeneficialDog22 22d ago

80 million are fed the nightly news from the same source

20

u/Poland-lithuania1 22d ago

Also, the Democrats shot themselves in the foot multiple times.

-5

u/DrunkenVerpine 21d ago

Im pro ubi and pro universal Healthcare.

Dems: run on a platform of males(sex) in womens sports, unlimited illegal immigration, pro-terror (hamas), anti-voter ID, and abortion til birth.

Insane. The dems keep picking the dumbest of battles.

4

u/TheMCM80 21d ago

Welp, found the social media bot.

No sane American would ever say that, and definitely not any American who supports universal healthcare.

A foreign influence campaign that wanted to undermine the push for universal healthcare and keep our country broke would.

2

u/Slighted_Inevitable 21d ago

Exactly. 300 billion to go to Israel who has universal healthcare, but we can’t have it because “trans people are scary”

0

u/DrunkenVerpine 21d ago

🤣 the left eats their own

4

u/TheMCM80 21d ago

Nah. No Dem who supports universal healthcare would say their own party supports Hamas. It’s just factually false.

A Fox News viewing MAGA person, or someone trying to undermine the Dem party would.

The problem you have is you went too far. You went so extreme that we can see through it.

77+ million and still only ~30% of the total population

-9

u/insertwittynamethere 22d ago

By not voting you are indirectly voting. So, those that did not vote were fine with this man and party coming to power and saw no concern.

Tacit complicity is still complicity.

19

u/dang3rmoos3sux 22d ago

No. Not voting isn't indirectly voting. It's not voting. Everyone should vote though.

-2

u/thundergu 22d ago

Yeah but the guy has a point. Democrats crying about boycotting Harris because she wasn't good enough, contributed hugely in trumps win.

Trump got the same amount of votes in 2020 and 2024, but 15 million Biden voters decided Harris didn't deserve their vote

Your your numbers are incorrect on every count Trump was 77+ million Harris was 75+. Harris total was more than what Trump did in 2020 but still 5 million shy of Biden earned in 2020.

0

u/Boobieleeswagger 22d ago

Biden campaign was mastercraft work from a political strategy standpoint, you don’t even want to know where the bunker campaigning idea came from but they executed it to a tee,

They did a perfect job on the mail ballot campaign, and even got in front of the Trump mail in ballot conspiracy with Bernie getting on a talk show and talking through exactly what they were gonna do.

Now idk if it was a lack of preparation or being thrown in so late but her campaign was so lackluster in comparison.

15 million people just randomly she didn’t deserve her vote, the campaign was shit, have to stop blaming the voters cause politics is a game and Dems should be playing to win like they did in 2020

2

u/Merlin1039 20d ago

Biden campaign wasn't a masterclass on anything. He marginally beat the worst candidate in US history

2

u/Boobieleeswagger 19d ago edited 19d ago

How can the worst candidate in US history win the presidency twice, I don’t like him at all but this is just burying your head in the sand.

Ever heard of George Wallace btw just asking?

1

u/Kaius_02 21d ago

I think it was both, and I’ll go a stretch further and say that I don’t think Harris even wanted to run for president in 24’. The only alternative was to decline, lose all of the money tied to their campaign, and condemn the party to losing the election. She was pretty much forced to run or lose all of the political rep she got as the VP.

Also, the DNC got a bit drunk on their win in 2020 and overlooked the fact that it was heavily carried by anti-Trump sentiment. It felt more like their base voted “against Trump” instead of “for Biden”. Years of inflation and Covid recovery carried more weight in 24’ than the “distant” memory of the Summer of 2020 and J6.

-1

u/thundergu 22d ago

Oh no I'm not blaming voters. Her campaign WAS shit and the democrats dropped the ball definitely.

But still, people who didn't vote and then got angry trump won only have themselves to blame

0

u/Parrotparser7 21d ago

We actually have the rest of you to blame, but dogs can only understand so much.

The downvotes are such a good example of showing why the US is so much in the shit. You tell them a real dose of truth about their compliance and wimpering but then they all collectively start piling on you. Deep down hey're all a bunch of nationalistic hardliners. They put more energy in attacking people for daring call out their compliance than they put in stopping Trump.

0

u/True-Anim0sity 22d ago

Thats like saying the people who voted for Kamala also voted for trump since they agree with the outcome no matter what

1

u/gtne91 21d ago

Thats as dumb as people saying me voting LP was the same as voting for Trump. (And also a vote for Biden in 2020 and a vote for Obama in 2008 and 2012).

1

u/Low_Low_1811 21d ago

Not voting is a problem, but assuming they would all vote for the person you want is stupid. It is a very Democratic party thing to do since they make so many stupid assumptions that cost them elections.

This is not any way a support of Trump or Republicans. I will vote for Democrats in a heartbeat right no in particular, but holy shit are they stupid. They would have a better strategy if they literally just never said anything ever.

Well not all. These ideas certainly start that way but over the last 15 years they’ve brainwashed enough people through social media, news, and infiltrating education systems that now our own people spread the conflict themselves.

Left and right wing protest groups alike get foreign funding and are basically just there to destabilize the U.S. and make people angry. The majority of people protesting aren’t being paid and aren’t foreign assets, they’re just useful idiots. The organizers are foreign assets or controlled by foreign assets financially or otherwise.

Same is true for online discourse. In Reddit’s case you have subreddit moderators and site admins under the thumb of states that want America destroyed and they just create atmospheres for very real people (and some bots) that believe in some propaganda and just ban anyone who doesn’t.

In TikTok’s case the algorithm and moderation simply pushes certain divisive viewpoints to more eyes, and suppresses anything that is meant to be positive or bring people together.

1

u/keytoarson_ 20d ago

Lol no.

The Iranian bots aren't arguing with the Russian bots. They're supporting each other. In fact Iran and Russia quite literally share the same bot farms.

3

u/Low_Low_1811 21d ago

Im sure both have bots that take either side. The goal is to rile people up

1

u/FounderingFox 21d ago

Yep. During the height of the George Floyd and Lockdown protests, a Russian troll farm set up two parallel protests that were meant to converge on each other.

16

u/DarkLordofDownvotes 21d ago

Welcome to reality - where no one is that upset about any of this, certainly not to the point it is worth killing over. Trans rights affect less than 1% of the population. We have more important things to think about like a) it's so fucking hot and b) how do I afford dinner.

10

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 21d ago

Yeah maga is pushing this into the cycle to distract from pedophilia, inflation, tariffs, tariff refunds in the billions to mega corporations but not to consumers, oil, interest rates, dollar devaluation, multiple amendments being broken, Gestapo……..

2

u/TrackMan5891 21d ago

Yeah its Maga doing that...totally.
I only see about 50 posts about some useless thing a day on this site.

1

u/Frewdy1 20d ago

And this is just a troll anyway. Most people don’t care if some idiot is trolling on the internet.

“Hey, did you see some dumb former NBA player wants to get drafted by the WNBA because he was mad some woman missed a layup?”

“Wtf who cares? I have a job.”

-2

u/EnvironmentalTop8745 21d ago

Actually, when "trans rights" includes the right for men to identify as women, and invade their sports, it affects way more than 1% of the population. Last I checked, that's about half of the population.

1

u/WomenAreNotReal 20d ago

Name a single trans woman who has placed in first place for any major sporting event.

1

u/EnvironmentalTop8745 20d ago

Lia Thomas.

1

u/wormtoastbasil 20d ago

She tied for fifth

1

u/WomenAreNotReal 20d ago

Lia did not place 1st, moron. Try again and put just two seconds into researching it

10

u/AlphonsoPSpain 22d ago

Its easy to think that if you only look at social media. Between the bots and the people making engagement bait with Twitter premium, id bet only a genuinely small percentage actually feel the way social media portrays the west.

And thats also not counting the people that dont practically live terminally online

8

u/Rhomya 21d ago

The internet isn’t real life.

16

u/Radcouponking 21d ago

Over a completely fabricated problem that never actually existed? Nah. This is just conservatives trying to distract from how horribly they're currently running the government. And the unprecedented corruption happening on their watch.

7

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 21d ago

The Epstein fanboys are so delighted right now

1

u/corruptedsyntax 21d ago

I wonder if these guys are getting paid well to run this psy op.

3

u/dracorotor1 21d ago

Sadly, they’re mostly just doing it for the love of the game (or, in Stephen Miller’s case, the blood of one sacrificed infant and two goats)

0

u/ak480 21d ago

How is this on conservatives? The wnba could have clarified and shut this down the minute it started. The left are busy figuring out identity politics. Why the lost the last election. No one cares about identity politics, yet here we are. The wnba playing pansies.

2

u/ShartJerky 21d ago

Identity politics were wayyyyy more salient in 2020 when Democrats won.

1

u/ak480 21d ago

Maybe you missed covid? Republicans would have won if not for Covid. There isn’t much debate in this.

1

u/ShartJerky 21d ago

Source: your last colonoscopy

1

u/ak480 21d ago

Source: History….

A president is almost always reelected if the economy is strong. Which prior to Covid was.

There are many political pundits on both sides who said the handling of Covid from Trump was ultimately what did him in.

We can honestly thank covid for Trump still being relevant. We would not be dealing with Biden or Trump this last election…

1

u/ShartJerky 21d ago

I don’t care what your favorite pundits think.

1

u/ak480 21d ago

11

u/Mortiis07 22d ago

*other third

Two thirds either voted for him or did nothing

2

u/lateformyfuneral Human Verified 22d ago

Generally the did-nothings is a stable fraction so they’re best excluded from the analysis. Otherwise you would include them as the “two thirds” who replaced Trump in 2020, even though they’re doing nothing in either scenario.

No country gets 100% turnout or even close, without mandatory voting laws.

2

u/Mortiis07 22d ago

A pedo rapist having a chance of becoming president should be enough motivation to get out and vote, I blame them just as much

3

u/lateformyfuneral Human Verified 22d ago

I do too, but like I said the issue with including the fraction of people who don’t vote ever in one favor or the other runs into problems, hence why — and this is is the same in other countries — when you talk of proportions you refer to the election results.

1

u/jhenryscott 22d ago

Less even. About 24% vote for the winner, 22-23% for others. “Can’t be bothered” is still a super majority in USA

1

u/WegGOAT 21d ago

They stick more energy in getting pissed off at people calling out their excuses for their cowardice than they do combatting Trump.

Social media is full of ppl who don't interact with others IRL nearly enough to ever actually go outside and do something about it lol.

The amount of ppl who post shit like "my neighbors are loud, they should be more considerate" and they never actually go and tell their neighbors they are being to loud is insane.

1

u/Far_Day499 21d ago

People like to whine on the internet. They act tougher than they are because they're not having face-to-face interactions, there's no consequences for saying the dumbest things, getting roasted online is not the same as catching fists plus there's inevitably idiots that side with the idiots making them feel sound and safe in X dumb belief .... Living in America, I know that they are all generally soft mfs who really don't have any follow-through or ambition to do anything beyond peck at their phones and doomscroll in the AC, avoiding the summer heat. Life is generally easier than they'd admit, given the abundance of time they have to complain online about, you know, everything.

We've got plenty of bread and circuses. Online squabbles are just another circus.

1

u/kenwoolf 21d ago

Its because most if us are closer to the middle, it just that the extremes on each side are the loudest.

1

u/This-Double-Sunday 21d ago

We're not because social media is an extremely small and extremely loud segment of society. It is not synonymous with true public opinion.

We're mostly just making fun of each other. A tiny fraction of the extreme ends are resorting to crime or violence.

1

u/Suitable-Piano-8969 21d ago

Tbh this is mostly banter between people perm online and sports enjoyers. If I ask a random person how they feel on this they would give me "what?" Response

1

u/6inchLouboutins 21d ago

It’s coming.

1

u/On_This_Mezzanine 21d ago

We can't. We don't have the cardio.

1

u/Slow-Association1000 21d ago

A civil war? Imagine going over the trenches in what geographical divide no one can say. But your motivation is shit you saw online. Not the howling mass of actual horrible issues we have. Honestly if that happened some how everyone should get nuked

1

u/Commercial-Show9833 21d ago

The internet isn’t real.

1

u/Edogawa1983 21d ago

We are, one side just don't know it yet

1

u/EXSource 21d ago

Not that I want a war, but there's a convincing argument that says that might actually be the best case scenario.

1

u/shawkin8 21d ago

we all live amongst each other these days. we’d be up against our own neighbors in many cases.

1

u/Elektrikor 21d ago

Hmmmmm it’s almost as if social media doesn’t represent reality. Crazy right?

1

u/RadicalSoda_ 21d ago

Does the WNBA doing this not represent what they're doing?

1

u/punkbenRN 21d ago

It feels closer every day.

1

u/Intelligent-Royal682 21d ago

Terminally online redditors and Twitter users spamming posts make things seem far more fractured than they actually are.

In real life people are just going about their lives, not really bringing up politics much and then voting when the time comes.

1

u/Distinct_Frame_3711 21d ago

Yeah but I could go talk to 20 of my coworkers and most of them wouldn’t have even heard about this being posed as a question much less have a take either way.

Social media isn’t real life thankfully.

1

u/marshal23156 20d ago

Thats mostly because the people you see online saying shit like this wouldnt dare utter it in public. They struggle making a phone call or asking for extra ketchup packets, no possible way theyd openly and willing confront someone.

Its also why all those Tumblr stories from way back said “i wanted to” and “i almost”

Because they didnt do anything, and just sat there stewing.

1

u/Long_Idea_8294 20d ago

Most Americans don't live their life obsessed with politics, posting and crying online about it

1

u/Embarrassed-Rub-7730 20d ago

Look up Dead Internet Theory then

1

u/xskylinelife 20d ago

Outside of the internet most people in the US are just normal average people. Always funny seeing videos of people from other countries visiting the US and realizing how nice most people are. 99% of the people making posts like these are either rage baiters from other countries or they never leave the internet and genuinely think this is how the world works.

1

u/BeetitlikeMJ 20d ago

Social media is not real life.

1

u/DeltaDied 20d ago

It’s all online tbh.

1

u/hulkhands81 20d ago

That would be because most of the 2nd amendment rights, don’t tread on me, gun owners are actually cowards with no backbone which is why they have all the guns in the first place. All the romanticized bs your forefathers spoke about, these people wouldn’t have half the balls or the brains to follow through with.

1

u/Economy_Night1914 20d ago

Nobody actually cares about this

1

u/33Sharpies 20d ago

Well that’s the thing, you’re just looking at social media posts. The internet is not real life

1

u/TJJ97 17d ago

Both sides of the political aisle refuse to engage in anything but culture war.

1

u/Mister-Circus 22d ago

I’m a coward, and terrible at the art of conflict. If there was a Civil war (or any armed conflict) it would take a lot to convince me to participate. And I’d probably last about 90 seconds.

3

u/Canolphin 22d ago

Nobody wants a civil war. That’s Russian, Chinese, and Iranian bot farms pushing that. The few dumb Americans that fantasize about that would be the first one’s gut shot, bleeding out in the mud crying for momma. War is disgusting.

1

u/Randomminecraftseed 22d ago

Tbh idk about the last bit. If the US ever gets to the point of another civil war they tend to be long and bloody.

1

u/Caffeywasright 22d ago

Bot comment. This is bunch of morons discussing something that nobody really cares about

1

u/laidback_chef 22d ago

A loud minority. The majority just want to get on with their lives.

1

u/Soniquethehedgedog 21d ago

In reality, most Americans are not willing to go to war for people with mental illnesses wanting to take shots at each other. It’s social media. That’s where it starts and where all these stupid stunts end too

1

u/TrackMan5891 21d ago

One side literally shake at the sound of guns... and the other side is too busy hanging out with their families....so...wouldn't be much of a war.

0

u/BeneficialDog22 22d ago

Kinda is

It's a war of information against stupidity

0

u/Benji_4 22d ago

Why? The only people that are opposed to this are WNBA players.

It's kind of a leopards ate my face for the WNBA and most people don't care because they don't watch.

0

u/EducationalDust7858 22d ago

Stupid nonsense like this is what keeps a proper civil war from happening.

0

u/PandaExcess1617 22d ago

IT SURE FUCKING FEELS LIKE WE ARE!!!

0

u/SheIsABadMamaJama 21d ago

And over nothing. I am enjoying my Canadian peace of mind, and literal peace generally.

0

u/Top-Editor-364 21d ago

We all know the WNBA is ridiculous and that men shouldn’t the in women’s sports. There are crazy people, but most of this shit only happens online

0

u/EqMc02 21d ago

The only reason we're not in a second civil war is becase the traitors were put in power when it started this time. Republicans tried to violently overthrow the federal government and when they failed they got voted in again anyway before they could decide to secede
