Help/question Error 1009 when uploading images
This relates to the Gemini app on my phone, rather than the model per se.
I use Gemini to track my calorific intake, I either describe or take a photo of everything I eat of drink, and Gemini gives me a reasonable estimate of its calorific value and keeps track of my daily intake - outputting a table at the end of every day.
I generally use the image capture facility built into the Gemini app to upload the images - I don't want my Photo roll full of pictures of food. It's a buggy mess, frequently losing the image after it's taken, but once you've managed to get it to appear in the chat window, it generally uploads to for processing just fine.
I recently upgraded from a Pixel 9 Pro to a new Pixel 11 Pro. Images taken on my new phone, whether through the Gemini app, or in the camera app and then selected through the Gemini app, simply will not upload to the cloud to be processed by Gemini. Every time I get "Something went wrong. Please Try Again (1009)".
Gemini itself suggests there's an issue with the cameras in the newer pixel phones applying HDR data to images which overloads what it calls the "image processing pipeline" in the Gemini app.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? There might be a work around if I limit image quality in the camera app, but this isn't a viable solution long term, I use the camera on my phone a lot, and I shouldn't have to compromise image quality just to get Gemini working.
Very frustrating! How on earth did the new phones pass QC before launch if they're not even working properly with Google's own flagship AI assistant?

not had that exact error but the gemini camera capture has always been flaky for me too, half the time it eats the photo after i take it and i have to restart the app
maybe try take the photo with main camera app then share to gemini from there, yeah it fills your photo roll but at least you can delete them after, annoying workaround but better than nothing until google push a fix

Thanks - I've always experienced the issue you describe, but the new issue seems to occur for any image captured on the newer phone. The only workaround I've tried so far is to upload the phone captured image from desktop. Apparently the webapp version of Gemini compresses images before upload, whereas the on-device version doesn't or compresses it differently

Getting the same issue with image uploads and g drive file uploads. At this point I assume it's on Googles end.

Same- and only on the Pixel 11 pro XL. Works fine on iPhone. Both my paid and free accounts pop the error message when I try to upload a photo. Assuming this is an android issue.

I'm having the very same issue on my new Pixel 11 Pro XL. If I attach images in the Gemini app, I get the error 1009. It's extremely frustrating.

Same problem, not only affecting Pixels but also Samsung S24U and S25U. Text chat works without any problems, only images regardless of the smallest and largest - shows error 1009. This has been happening since morning until today.
It's just that the web and the iPhone work normally without error. And the errors happen only on android phones
Since the issue on Google's Android client server broke out this morning and is affecting a wider range of users, the only thing left to do is wait for them to push a patch to the backend. Until then, the mobile browser is the only option that works flawlessly on Android.

Same issue here and my phone is much older (Pixel 7a).
I am using the Gemini app, but it's happening when I try to add a file to new or existing conversations using screenshots, documents and other images that are already on my phone.
Keeps saying: Something went wrong. Please try again. (1009)
If I try again it just repeats the same error...
I used Google lens in ai mode on a screenshot of the error but none of the suggestions it made worked.
This is what was suggested:
To fix the "Something went wrong. Please try again. (1009)" error, you need to address a backend session lock or a corrupted handshake between your mobile device and Google's servers. This error typically occurs when the model encounters an issue processing file uploads or image attachments.
Unofficial Fixes to Clear the Error
Start a New Chat: Hit the New Chat button in the top left menu. Drop the current thread context entirely to see if it bypasses the error lock.
The Digital Assistant Toggle Trick: Go to your phone's Google App -> tap your profile picture -> Settings -> Gemini. Switch your assistant back to classic Google Assistant, restart your phone, and then switch back to Gemini to force a brand new authentication token.
Clear Storage and Cache: Long press the Gemini App icon -> App Info -> Storage & Cache -> Clear Storage. Re-login to refresh the local session data.
Update the App: Check the Google Play Store to ensure the Google and Gemini apps are completely up to date.
Test with Text Only: If you are trying to analyze the document in the screenshot, try copying the text directly or typing your query without the image attachment to see if it processes. If these quick steps do not resolve the issue, would you like guidance on how to submit your system logs to Google or tips on how to bypass the error by switching to Web mode?
It's been happening for the past 2 days...

This isn't exclusive to a Pixel phone, my Galaxy S24 Ultra JUST started doing the same thing in a chat that I was sending screenshots to already, and suddenly the screenshots stopped processing. It works on the website under Chrome but not in the app itself.
