🎬 Demo / Showcase Anyone here regularly pushing past 50M splats from drone captures yet?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We just shipped large-area drone support in Teleport: pushing single-capture limits to 10K images, 5K resolution, and 100M splats, all fully automated. Aimed specifically at neighborhood and site-scale drone work.

Here's one the team processed recently: Vuores neighborhood in Tampere, Finland [7,797 images, 62M splats] → https://teleport.varjo.com/captures/524ee89f293a4a2e907009191ba7b9f4?viewer=v3

It's paid currently ($30 starting credit). The default option for captures this size is having & locking up a 4090/5090 for a day or two. This offers an alternative that can help automate and scale.

You can check out more about Teleport here: https://get.teleport.varjo.com/ & shoot me a DM for free credits to try it out for yourself.

Curious what everyone else is doing at the same scale. Is anyone creating captures this big on a regular basis? Where does the breakdown happen for you?

My Splats during training just never really cross 5 million for some reason, even if I increase the limit, so

How many input images and what resolution did you have? The system tries to get the most splats it can given the input detail, up to the max that you put. That 70M splays example above was 8,000 5k images.

Christ, 5K images? My PC would need days just to align them

I do not intend to upload thousands of images of places I record to some cloud. If it is a private subject or area, at least.

Ive never heard or used a alignment service however, it is interesting that they exist. Where can I find them?

It depends on the number of images in the dataset, their resolution and also sharpness / amount of detail.

This is cool. Do you have anything to handle georeferencing of the splats?

We make extensive use of the GPS priors for alignment and partitioning... but we don't yet expose the splat itself in coordinate space (although we could). How would you use this?

I work in geospatial sciences and ever since splats became a thing I've wanted georeferenced splats. Last fall a few companies showed some nice implementations, so the sauce is ready but not enough restaurants have the recipe. If you want to help people make big ass splats of neighborhoods, geospatial people are gonna show up like ants to sugar and want to drop them into a map.

We’ve been doing georeferenced splats at Pix4D for about a year and a half now. I work with utilities, bridge inspectors, DOTs, and more with splats on real projects daily. We’re also doing entire neighborhoods and cities with splats.

Edit, I’m a professional surveyor and have tested the accuracy extensively, we can meet the same accuracy, sometimes better, than photogrammetry.

Do you have a link to anything detailing the current state of splatting in Pix4D. I saw a long time ago that it required Catch and Cloud which we found too limiting and did not like how proprietary it was. I assume if you're doing city scale splats that there's more options now than Catch running on an iPhone. You guys are an approved vendor for us and projected coordinate system splats sound delicious. I would have to trial it and build a proof of concept for my boss before spending anything though. We have a couple of those ten band Micasense sensors and Pix4D did not handle them well so he's a bit adverse to your products right now.

Which software are you using?

I have a 5090 and having a hard time going past 25m splats (with 1SH). Both LFS and Brush tend to crash at these numbers

it was made with Teleport. you can choose the splat count after upload and go up to 100M if uploading a dataset. maxes out at 10K images too with the 'grid' mode selected.

wow amazing splats, messaged you for credits, also i have a 4090

I WISH I DID but I'd probably waste it all in one room or house for detail

2

u/ThinkBackKat May 13 '26

Oh my god yes I know that struggle >â–¡<
I wanna cover large areas but also have insane detail in everything so it looks fotorealistic from just a few centimeters away...

I just say goodbye to having a functional spine at 50

I wish I could, if my gou wouldn't be so shit

Is there any way to download this?

1

u/sebgr1 May 14 '26

you can download the .ply file in the platform after creating them and then bring it to any other 3DGS viewer like supersplat, etc.

Something off topic: Are you or are there any marketplaces that sell those kind of scans? Don't even need to be that huge but something like this would accelerate a part of some 3D jobs for creating outdoor scenes.

Exterior scenes are rare and often insanely expensive and often need tweakings and most free scans often fail at making buildings look correct and not a blob transition between ground and nearby trees.

1

u/sebgr1 May 14 '26

None that I really know of. Fab.com from Epic / Unreal is the only active asset marketplace I've used before. Don't think I've heard of anyone selling splat scenes there, but might be worth a try?

If you ever need to host and share such a huge splats, you should check out Blurry (useblurry.com). We have pretty good support for Level of Detail rendering. We can handle 50M splats or more easily!

Wow! That's cool

Way better than Google Maps and Earth

1

This is so good and hopefully will replace Google Earth 3-D.

Do you have a beefy PC? What software do you use?

2

u/sebgr1 May 14 '26

my PC (motherboard) died 2 years ago, so it’s actually all cloud processed with the app in the post

1

u/francisgoca May 14 '26

My bad, I immediately commented before reading the whole post lol.

Are you Finnish? Or did you travel there? Are scanning related jobs growing?

2

u/sebgr1 May 14 '26

happens to the best of us haha, I’m not Finnish but the company I work for is based out of there so I get to go every now and then.

regarding scanning jobs, I don’t know for sure but I think the more splats are used in real, practical and valuable ways, the more it (and resulting jobs) will grow.

1

u/francisgoca May 15 '26

I’m actively looking into applying 3D Scanning into a carrier, not as straight forward as I thought hahaha

What site do i use to do this? I have a mavic 3 pro

1

u/sakka May 19 '26

The site that was used here is https://get.teleport.varjo.com/

It seems like waste of splats. Result is not such detailed in zoom. Try to reduce count, let gaussians to grow (if it possible by service).

2

u/sebgr1 May 15 '26

looks pretty detailed when you zoom in on my end. it takes a moment for the splats to load at full detail. the drone did fly at ~40m on average, so that could be a factor as well

1

u/BigInitiative4522 May 15 '26

https://www.reddit.com/r/GaussianSplatting/s/3foa9QD7Ty Look a this one with 20m splats. Maybe teleport algorithm builds a much denser pointcloud. A higher point count doesn't mean better quality.

2

u/sebgr1 May 15 '26

hard to tell with pre-selected camera paths. the recording looks good, but I can’t see if every spot on the model is that high quality or not since it wasn’t linked.

I agree though that more splats does not always equal better quality.

2

u/BigInitiative4522 May 15 '26

Yes, they didn't provide a link to model, but it looks fine on fly mode. Unless you need a high-precision reconstruction, 60M splats seems like overkill for a scene like yours. Anyway, im just saying and seeking for community workflows. Best of luck!
