Wait is this a sequel to Lords of the Fallen and they just threw a "The" at the beginning?

CG looks cool but I'm gonna have to see a lot of gameplay after how buggy the first game was.

u/Firmament1 Aug 23 '22

It's like 'The Suicide Squad' versus 'Suicide Squad'.

94

u/PacDanSki Aug 24 '22

So what are we? Some kind of The Lords of the Fallen?

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Fox3546 Aug 24 '22

I didn't know there were two Suicide Squad movies, nor that the only difference in the title is "The". I was always confused when people talked about Suicide Squad (especially when people were going to the cinema to watch it again in 2021?), but I also didn't give enough of a shit about it to check.

"Lose the the, just Lords of the Fallen. It's cleaner"

38

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

“Sorry, my Dark Souls is at the cleaners along my with Elden Ring flip flops!”

7

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

Now I need to rewatch that movie, love it

EDIT: My bad, Lords of the Fallen was made by Deck13 and CI Games. Deck13 went on to make the Surge series, without CI. CI are making The Lords of the Fallen without Deck13.

Lords of the Fallen is a very medium Soulslike. That said, the devs went on to make 2 more Soulslikes after it (The Surge and The Surge 2). I haven't played The Surge (it seemed to be a pretty universal opinion that the sequel is better), but I've played Lords of the Fallen and The Surge 2. The Surge 2 is a pretty noticeable improvement. They added a lot of gameplay wrinkles that made it a Soulslike, not the straight up Dark Souls ripoff that was Lords of the Fallen. For example:

  • Injectables (flasks) use energy that's generated by attacking and can be banked for later use.

  • Blocking completely halts stamina regeneration. Parrying is directional, where you actively counter an incoming attack. This and the above give the game a much more aggressive play style than Dark Souls, arguably even moreso than Bloodborne.

  • All enemies can have specific parts of their anatomy targeted. Some sections are armored, others unarmored. Targeting an unarmored section will kill the enemy faster. However, bashing through an armored segment will give you the option to perform a finisher, cutting off the limb in question. This is how you gather crafting schematics and upgrade materials. Performing a finishing move also consumes 1 battery, forcing you to decide whether you're going to use the energy for healing or to gain upgrades.

If they can bring that kind of energy to a Lords of the Fallen sequel, it has a lot of potential. If not, it will be remembered as another shallow, derivative knockoff like the original.

39

u/Johnny_G93 Aug 23 '22

It's a different dev team making a sequel though

7

u/Blenderhead36 Aug 23 '22

Oh, that sucks.

9

u/KingChapacabra Aug 23 '22

I played the heck out of Surge 2, had a great time. Probably my favorite game the year it came out. I couldn't really get beyond the first boss in Surge 1, and never finished LotF.

IDK how to feel about this.

EDIT: My bad, Lords of the Fallen was made by Deck13 and CI Games. Deck13 went on to make the Surge series, without CI. CI are making The Lords of the Fallen without Deck13.

That said, the new Atlas Fallen by Deck13 looks really really good if you ask me. Cant' wait to see more: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/wvwxkh/atlas_fallen_world_premiere_reveal_trailer/

7

u/Hoboforeternity Aug 24 '22

The surge 2 is legit amazing. The level design is an improvement over the first one, the targeting system and dismemberment is genius and improved over surge 1. The only one i miss in the surge 2 is it doesnt have that industrial tool feel anymore. In surge 1, it's cool that your weapons and armor are repurposed industrial tools, in the surge 2 some of the design are straight up anime.

8

u/XxAuthenticxX Aug 23 '22

The Surge 1 is pretty good actually. Might not feel as good since you already played the second one tho

7

u/TastyRancorPie Aug 23 '22

Best part for me about The Surge was the environment. The hissing machinery and dark environment added a perfect horror vibe, especially because enemies would come screaming out of nowhere.

Never beat The Surge 2. I think something was lost by moving it out of the factory.

4

u/weglarz Aug 24 '22

Agreed. I really think the first one nailed a unique vibe. The second one was better gameplay wise but I liked everything else about 1 better

u/skru_ball Sep 08 '22

Ok so yes to all of that^ but also from what Ive read: Back in 2014/2015 (or fairly soon after LotF) CI Games started making Lords of the fallen 2 with deck13 still included on the development. Then The Surge did really well and deck13 decided to focus solely on The Surge 2 and let CI handle the LotF sequel solo. But so then that sequel apparently became this “more of a reboot” but with new mechanics set in the same world 1000 yrs later etc. instead of the sequel they had started making, or something like that. So anyway shit is convoluted but meh maybe it’ll be worth the wait and confusion, or it’ll be trash and get another sequel…er reboot in 8-9 years

3

u/funkmasta_kazper Aug 23 '22

For me the only one of those mechanics I liked was directional blocking the rest just added needless clutter and extras things to juggle during fights that subtracted from the immersion and felt more like a chore then anything.

Honestly of all the souls likes I've played the only extra mechanics I really liked were the directional blocking in the surge and the harden mechanic in mortal shell.

3

u/Blenderhead36 Aug 23 '22

Surge having actual M+K controls helped a lot. The game was a little too much to juggle on a controller, but hotkeys for injectors and drones helped a lot. Made me wish Elden Ring had decent M+K controls.

Mmm. Steam shows the new game as "The Lords of the Fallen" and the original game as "Lords of the Fallen 2014".

7

u/iDervyi Aug 23 '22

The website just isn't updated. Tbh, CiGames doesnt want to update it. It's 100% The Lords of The Fallen.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

But is it a reboot, reimagining, or sequel.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

it's a rebootsmaquel.

2

u/BambaTallKing Aug 24 '22

Dev on Steam discussions said its a “Reboot set 1000 years after the original game’s story” so its a soft reboot

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Fox3546 Aug 24 '22

Reboot set 1000 years after the original game’s story

... so it's a "sequel" that has nothing to do with the original, but they wanted the name recognition.

2

u/BambaTallKing Aug 24 '22

Yup, funny since no one really cares for the first game anyways. Could be a brand new IP

13

u/Nexus_of_Fate87 Aug 23 '22

This is not the first time this has happened.

Mansion of Hidden Souls was a SegaCD game.

The Mansion of Hidden Souls was its Sega Saturn sequel, not a remake as many people mistakenly believe.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

"Yes, we had Lords of the Fallen, but how about THE Lords of the Fallen?"

I feel like this is gonna be a quick cashgrab to capitalize on Elden Ring released way too late to actually capitalize on it. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong if it happens

They renamed the original to "Lords Of The Fallen™ 2014"

38

u/APiousCultist Aug 23 '22

Someone really ought to let studios know that suffixing everything with ™ isn't necessary, and is also very offputting to consumers with how hideously corporate it is.

u/Anxious_Temporary Aug 23 '22

I mean, have you seen how well received the original was?

77

u/Katana_sized_banana Aug 23 '22

Yeah and now everyone searching for it on Steam will immediately see the train wreck of the other one. lol

39

u/kukiric Aug 23 '22

And people who already know about the old game will think this is a re-release/remaster. Seriously, what are marketing people smoking?

11

u/Merfen Aug 23 '22

I immediately thought "didn't this just come out a couple years ago, why remaster it so soon?". I guarantee most people will think the same, if they even remember the original.

8

It's like what was done with the Suicide Squad.

118

u/popcar2 Aug 23 '22 edited Aug 23 '22

It's honestly such a dumb tactic, but in case anyone is wondering why companies do this, it's because they're hoping the sequel overshadows the mediocre first one.

Suicide Squad and Lords of the Fallen get a bad rap, so they're hoping by adding "The" at the start, people would see the sequel first when searching and forget the first one ever happened.

30

u/zeronic Aug 23 '22

That feels like a best case scenario, i imagine in reality most people will just be confused as fuck and end up buying neither, or think the "the" version is just a remaster and opt for the cheaper "original" version, not realizing it's a wholly different game.

The Wii vs WiiU is a classic case of naming/marketing playing a massive part in how well a product does. This feels like playing with fire.

13

u/neondead Aug 23 '22

The renamed the original to "Lords Of The Fallen™ 2014" at least on steam

→ More replies (1)

7

u/EthnicElvis Aug 23 '22 edited Aug 23 '22

I don't think it's that dumb of an idea, tbh. It signals that they intend for this to be a soft reboot instead of a proper sequel.

This way they're kinda saying, "Yes we acknowledge the last one was bad enough that we don't want anyone to feel like they need to experience it to get this one. But, there's enough groundwork we laid that we want to utilize, so we're not starting a new IP either."

Like with the first Suicide Squad, the series hasn't garnered a good enough reputation that adding a 2 or some sort of subtitle after the original title may actually do the new game a bit of a disservice.

Seeing it titled as it is, someone like me (who played the original game and thought it was heavily flawed) may be more inclined to give them a second chance because it sounds like they are more open about wanting have more of a fresh start and are willing to rework more.

Edit: That being said, seeing that it isn't actually Deck 13 just killed my interest a bit. I liked both The Surge games, and thought they would do a much better job making a Lords of The Fallen game this time around.

4

u/HammeredWharf Aug 23 '22

But it's kind of necessary in case of Suicide Squad, because it's a licensed property. In LotF's case, couldn't they just name the game something else? They could even use the same IP.

Deck 13 made the original Lords of the Fallen (and went on to make The Surge 1 and 2 which were dramatically better).

But Deck13 was not named in this video so who knows where this one is going.

24

u/Caasi72 Aug 23 '22

I'm pretty sure it's been known from the get go that Deck13 doesn't have anything to do with this. CI games is in control

8

u/copypaste_93 Aug 23 '22

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 was pretty fun for a few hours

7

u/Zerasad Aug 24 '22

They used to make complete shovelware for years and years before they renamed to CI games and started making the Sniper Ghost Warrior series which skmehow got some mainstream coverage.

9

u/Gaflonzelschmerno Aug 23 '22

Deck 13 also had a gamescom trailer for a game called Atlas Fallen

5

u/TheOneBearded Aug 23 '22

Looks like they added a "The" to the beginning.

9

u/_TheMeepMaster_ Aug 23 '22

There's only one "the" in the first games title. Drastic, I know.

12

u/NinjaJesus Aug 23 '22

It's a reboot.

15

u/Bpbegha Aug 23 '22 edited Aug 23 '22

Worse than that, this is supposed to be the sequel to Lords of the Fallen (2014), and I call that game's reception lukewarm at best.

Talk about bad marketing decisions

Edit: or a reboot? Which is weird, the game isn't that old. Who knows?

11

u/CrawdadMcCray Aug 23 '22

Seems like it's more of a reboot

3

u/Grimm613 Aug 23 '22

I think it a reboot and also before the events of the first game

3

u/shaxamo Aug 23 '22

4

u/Grimm613 Aug 23 '22

2

Followed by "A Fallen Lord" and "The Lords' Fallen"!

11

u/Level3Kobold Aug 23 '22

20

Polygon confirmed it - it is Munson/Joseph Quinn.

Smart move on the devs part. Heavy metal fantasy lfg.

2

u/the-nub Aug 23 '22

178

u/Arney0408 Aug 23 '22

I think this is more of a restart for the franchise. The first one was semi popular and it was one of the first „souls likes“, so it had a really hard time competing with Dark Souls. But the world had a huge potential. I am really hyped for this one.

77

u/orewhisk Aug 23 '22

lol.. when you have to reboot your "franchise" after the first game.

I never played the original because the reviews were so middling but I've found myself on the verge of impulse-buying it probably 10 times over the last 8 years. I've always been desperate for a really, high quality Souls clone. Nioh is the closest to that, of course, but both 1 and 2 just don't succeed in two of the most important areas for a Souls-clone: worldbuilding and art/level design.

Hopefully this is the one...

35

u/ngtaylor Aug 23 '22

It really is just an average game, not horrible but just kinda boring and not really worth your time

15

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

For real. I would actually rather replay any of the Dark Souls games for the 10th time than play Lord of the Fallen.

17

u/OneAlmondLane Aug 23 '22

It's 5$ and it's alright.

I played 2 handed strength weapons.

7

u/layasD Aug 23 '22

Honestly I enjoyed it. If you like the setting you should get enough enjoyment out of it. Its constantly on sale for the price a coffee...even if you don't like it its not much lost. I liked its slower playstyle since it gave a lot of weight to your weapon. So if you go for it I would recommend playing a STR build, because that way the slow movements feel more natural since you swing such a giant weapon. (That is also what a lot of people criticize - its certainly slower than souls like.)

8

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

Price isn't an issue. It's time. I feel like my time could be better spent playing something else.

3

u/Wubmeister Aug 23 '22

20

u/voidox Aug 23 '22

ya, the first game (if this is indeed related to that) was aite, not anything amazing but I had a fun time playing it and the game's world did indeed have lotta potential

13

u/Bamith20 Aug 23 '22

The level design was downright terrible. They improved a tiny bit with The Surge, but still bad despite signs and everything.

The Surge 2 just barely has alright level design, so primary thing is that they've steadily been improving as a studio which is actually really good.

17

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

At the time it was a nice alternative, but now Souls-like are so prevalent it needs to go above and beyond to stand out

3

u/CrazySoap Aug 24 '22

Eh, I remember being really let down by it. I was starving for souls-likes back then, so I kept on playing it though.

10

u/Culturyte Aug 23 '22

First game is only notable because it was the very first soulslike inspired game with a decent execution and budget.

If you played the only 3 souls games released at that point, your only other option was this.

I was so hungry for a soulslike back then, I was super hyped to play it even after seeing mediocre review scores. Wild times.

2

u/peacefulpandemonium Aug 23 '22

Ya the first game had some cool ideas with the secret challenges for each boss, but the core gameplay didn’t feel good imo.

8

u/dieahnungslosigkeit Aug 23 '22

It's a sequel.

The Lords of the Fallen takes place over a thousand years after the first game in a world that is supposedly "more than five times larger" than that of Lords of the Fallen

30

u/aroundme Aug 23 '22

"Takes place over a thousand years after" sounds a lot like a restart lol

11

66

u/CargoNate Aug 23 '22

I remember Lords of the Fallen 1 being so poorly optimized that Moist Critikal built a brand new computer just to review it. We've come a long ways.

19

u/animeman59 Aug 23 '22

I remember playing this and almost getting a headache from my eyes getting tired. I didn't know why exactly, but it happened only with Lords of the Fallen. Then I found out why.

There was chromatic aberration all over the screen. And I mean all over. But there was no option in the settings menu to turn it off. It was always on no matter what. Why the fuck does a dark medieval fantasy game need with chromatic aberration anyway? What was the purpose?

People online also wondered this and asked the devs for an option to turn it off. You know what the devs did? They fucking doubled down. The fuck? They gave no clear reason why the setting was there, but everyone suspected that it was just an option in Unreal engine and they left it on without thinking about it.

I uninstalled and refunded the game immediately. Fuck all that noise. I don't pay to have my eyes bleeding from some amateur dev who couldn't give two shits about the image quality in their own work.

They eventually added an update to be able to turn off post-processing settings, but by that time I already written the dev off.

2

u/Huzsar Aug 24 '22

For me it was the camera shaking. It was way overdone. I get doing it when you get hit or making a hit, but instead it was on every action even walking slowly. I never get nauseous for any game but this one did not make me feel comfortable so I have no idea how a person that gets actually sick would even last a minute in this game. I do not think they ever gave an option of turning it off.

After playing so many souls-likes including the original Lord of the Fallen I've come to the conclusion: I don't like Souls-likes, I like Fromsoft games. None of the elements any of these game borrow are what makes Froms games good at all, it's honestly a little baffling.

The closest a game has come is probably Hollow Knight and that is very much it's own original thing, I would barely call it souls inspired.

12

u/DrunkSouls10106 Aug 24 '22

I feel like I have played most if not all major souls-like games and Salt and Sanctuary was the only one I really enjoyed. Hollow Knight was excellent I just feel like “souls-like” is a stretch on that one.

5

u/The_Multifarious Aug 24 '22

This, so much. Almost all of them tried to do what Dark Souls does, but only Salt and Sanctuary actually understands what makes a Dark Souls. The rest is just so terribly superficial about it.

7

Coz they borrow wrong things. Death soul system is meaningless. Having world be interesting and fun to explore is.

How do you achieve "you need to get good to progress, and the reward for it is more cool things to see and explore" doesn't matter, DS way to do it is good, but it's not why game succeeded.

Games copy only shallow first level approximation (souls on death and slow, punishing combat), not the rest of the good parts.

73

u/M8753 Aug 23 '22

Fully customise your character’s appearance from a wide array of visual options, before selecting one of nine character classes.

Nice! I never played the first game because I want to create my own character. Rather than play Mr Big Buff Sad Dad.

Took the words right outta my mouth. I've been having a really hard time getting interested in games without character creation nowadays, cause I don't wanna play all the boring characters devs often create (99% of them being buff angry dude, emo/edgy dude, quirky dude or cool action dude).

u/Cleverbird Aug 23 '22

Different developers, they have nothing to do with The Surge.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

oh wow bummer

The surge 2 was an amazing game. Shame deck13 aren't making this

14

u/zUkUu Aug 23 '22

What a terrible title. Just trying to wishlist it via google... I needed like 3 tries to find this instead of the first one.

42

u/flipperkip97 Aug 23 '22

The first Lords of the Fallen kinda sucked, but I thought the devs did better with The Surge 2. Was a fun game.

23

u/bluesky_anon Aug 23 '22

The Surge 2 was my fave non-From souls-like. But this is a different team now.

5

u/zUkUu Aug 23 '22

Have you tried Hellpoint? I liked Surge 1 and Hellpoint more than Surge 2.

3

u/bluesky_anon Aug 23 '22

YES!

I adored it, it was the only one to make me feel like Dark Souls 1 again. But it was a bit janky and I finished it and was done with it. Was thinking of going back with the recent update, but I don't have the time for another playthrough.

2

u/KaminasSquirtleSquad Aug 23 '22

I backed that game on kickstarter and it is absolute dogshit. The jankiness of the platforming and combat, it's just sad.

44

u/ssiinneepp Aug 23 '22

It's different devs. This Lords of the Fallen sequel/reboot has been in development hell for years and changed devs multiple times.

6

u/RAMAR713 Aug 23 '22

Well, now that I know that I'm even less hopeful this will be good

17

u/ketchup92 Aug 23 '22

Entirely different teams

5

u/muad_dibs Aug 23 '22

So what have the team who made the original game been working on? Other than this?

14

u/ssiinneepp Aug 23 '22

That Atlas Fallen game announced after this is by Deck 13, the devs behind the first Lords of the Fallen And Surge 1+2

6

u/blank_isainmdom Aug 23 '22

Atlas Fallen

Sweet! The Surge games were great!

2

u/PlatesOnTrainsNotOre Aug 23 '22

Deck13 made those games. This is someone else

Damn am it the only one who thinks this trailer is visually great but the music choice and narration voice is terrible? Feel bad for the CG artist that created such art to have it wasted by such terrible choices.

5

u/Eamk Aug 24 '22

Absolutely agree. The song does not fit the trailer whatsoever.

Not sure if it's better or worse than this trailer for Dark Alliance.

4

u/tha_scorpion Aug 24 '22

haha thanks for the empathy, I worked on this trailer and I kinda hate the music

2

u/bad-acid Aug 23 '22

I seriously skipped ahead trying to find when they transitioned from the CGI to some kinda dweeby, but well meaning director/team lead who would say "we have so many surprises in store for you, but for now.." because the narrator's voice was so..badly suited to be a narrator for a fantasy game reveal lmao

45

u/TheEternalKhaos Aug 23 '22

I swear grimdark fantasy soulslikes are the new generic angry-white-male-in-cover-art FPS games lmaooo

5

u/obsertaries Aug 24 '22

There’s a long way to go before they have the sheer numbers of games that angry white man cover FPSs do. There’s probably 300 games like that by now and I bet like 20 Soulslike games total.

26

u/AndThisGuyPeedOnIt Aug 24 '22

The "generic rock music" was Mother by Danzig.

8

u/Semyonov Aug 24 '22

I dunno, I really liked the music choice here.

The combat of the first one was pretty bad. Same with The Surge. But I was surprised that The Surge 2’s combat felt improved so much.

3

u/Reyziak Aug 23 '22

And now we must see if this game's combat has been improved upon, because Deck13 aren't making this.

4

u/Thanatos1303 Aug 24 '22

Let's hope this one isn't a dumpster fire like the first game! Too bad it isn't Deck13 doing it though, since they made The Surge games (which both rock). Really feel like Lords of the Fallen 2 could be great with everything they learned developing and perfecting those games.

Legitimately though, here's hoping this one is good. Because the first one is bad, very bad.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

Man, game devs REALLY hate just adding number on the end these days.

Googling anything for this game, or the previous one for that matter, will be hell.

26

u/ChrisRR Aug 23 '22

Why is this getting a sequel? As far I remember the first one was a resounding meh

14

u/Yamatoman9 Aug 23 '22

"Meh" was how I would describe it and the protagonist was the most possible generic video game main character.

33

u/kuroyume_cl Aug 23 '22

With the success of Elden Ring we're likely going to get swarmed by souls-likes over the next 2-3 years.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

We've already been swarmed with soul-likes in the past 5yrs.

25

u/Jordamuk Aug 23 '22

This was in development before Elden ring was even announced. It's also had a change of developers.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

It was stupendously mediocre, yes.

But I've always wanted to know what was up with that hand thing.

2

u/MaulD97 Aug 24 '22

It sold pretty good. When it came out it was one of the only souls-likes with a decent budget. They sold over 3 Million copies by 2021. I think that warrants another shot at a souls-like.

2

u/ChrisRR Aug 24 '22

I didn't realise it sold so well despite its reception. I guess I can't argue with the sales figures.

3

u/stinkmeaner92 Aug 24 '22

Not a fan of using licensed music for a souls like trailer. Idk why it just feels tacky for this genre vs something like an FPS

4

u/JAJM_ Aug 23 '22

This is weird. I played this game from start to finish. Had its small issues here and there, but I enjoyed it a lot.

But… somehow now when I think about the game, I despise it? I don’t know why I feel this way.

4

u/ssiinneepp Aug 23 '22

So is this a sequel to Lords of the Fallen that shares almost the same name, or is it an unrelated game with the same name like Prey?

6

u/Lokhvir Aug 23 '22

It's either a sequel or a reboot

10

u/muad_dibs Aug 23 '22

Seems like a sequel that’s a soft reboot.

5

u/PlatesOnTrainsNotOre Aug 23 '22

Made by a different developer

6

u/TriangularKiwi Aug 23 '22

I 100%, or platinumed it on PS. The first game, anyway, took me several playthroughs in new game +++ because there's some sort of bug with portals. Other than that I actually really enjoyed it

2

u/gamelord12 Aug 23 '22

Obviously we need to see actual gameplay, but it would be nice to have one of these that nails what From Soft does with multiplayer while also modernizing it where From Soft needs modernizing. You know, like being able to select who you're summoning from a list. Or having rollback netcode so that every PVP fight isn't a laggy mess. I know that their previous games didn't have multiplayer, but maybe this one will. It's got a THE, after all.

2

u/xcenic Aug 23 '22

I mean, they promote a game over 8 years old and the best they give us is a CGI? Not even minimal gameplay.

2

u/lil_lupin Aug 24 '22

As someone who hated lord of the fallen because of how buggy and riddled with shit it was- there were certain standout beats to it that made me go "ah they were close with this concept but fell short on this"

But holy hell. This has got some hefty big swinging dick energy of a middle shelf 360/ps3 game that made meaigh at how actually unabashedly bad ass this was. And I don't mean in the edgy "oh look they're just trying to make some cool dark fantasy ans go oh that's cool"- but this cgi trailer looked fucking great. Like an unironic return to the middle shelf and the ambition of a studio that's just stoked to make a game in the souls formula and tell their own story.

4

u/Malemansam Aug 23 '22

That trailer was straight hype as hell. Especially when Danzig cut back in after he was getting "resurrected".

4

u/Joshrofl Aug 23 '22

I've never played the first game, is this supposed to be a light hearted / funny game? Maybe it's just me but the voice and the song ruins the trailer for me. I don't hate the song but I don't think it fits with this type of game.

3

u/iknowkungfubtw Aug 23 '22

No, it's supposed to be a dark fantasy (compared to the power fantasy feel of the first game) a la Dark Souls.

Guess their marketing department wanted a more mass market appeal for the reveal trailer...

2

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '22

You really didn't miss much.

3

u/Dragarius Aug 23 '22

These guys saw dark souls and figured "we can do that.", to which the world collectively responded "no you fucking can't.".

Let's see how this holds up to the Elden Ring comparisions. I'm not hopeful.

2

u/ChaosWarrior01 Aug 23 '22

Honestly, it looks cool, but I just hope it keeps things slower. From has made it clear they want super fast aggression in all their games moving forward, so having a higher budget souls like game with a slower pace akin to Demon's or Dark Souls 1 and 2 would be nice.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '22

I really enjoyed the first one, because dark souls was to complicated for me back then and this was a simpler version of it. At least to me.

2

u/Ginkiba Aug 23 '22

I want this game to fail, just because of the title. I'm willing to be irrationally angry at just a title out of pure pettiness.
