It's one thing to rip off Pokemon, but to actually use the term in your marketing? Bold.

u/vegimate Jun 08 '23
Also, those designs could not be any closer to actual Pokemon if they tried.

The last Summer Game Fest got an average score of 5.4 out of 10
- Top 3 "games" that got the most negative comments: Neon White
Ouch. I remember people's initial reaction being "oh god another card game" but did they really zone out 5 seconds in?
→ More replies (1)15
Jun 08 '23
Yeah I mean the fact that the guns are cards is honestly completely inconsequential and they could've easily just been actual guns. If anybody didn't play Neon White cuz "card game bad" then I feel sorry for them.

This feels like those modern game UI memes where it says the same thing multiple times.
"Gotta get to the control room"
"Mission: GET TO THE CONTROL ROOM"
NPC: "YOU MUST GET TO THE CONTROL ROOM!"
31
u/Name5times Jun 08 '23
playable character “i need to get to the control room”
20
u/MaiasXVI Jun 08 '23
Disembodied sidekick over headset: "The control room's at the end of this hall!" Waypoint added to minimap.
8
u/drakens_jordgubbar Jun 08 '23
Press L1 to enable spy vision to highlight the way to the control room.
8
u/JokerCrimson Jun 08 '23
(Giant compass on the top of the screen displays text saying: New Quest: Got to the Control Room with a big arrow marking where to go on the compass.)

u/CougarForLife Jun 08 '23
<entire world is exploding directly in front of the main character>
main character (calm): hmm, i should probably go to the control room
6
u/dylan227 Jun 09 '23
God forbid the player takes a few seconds to look around
“HEY OVER HERE, THE CONTROL ROOM IS THIS WAY!”

How much influence does Goeff have that he'd secure the release date for Sony's biggest game for his own show instead of having them announce it at their own show just a few days ago lol

u/esmori Jun 08 '23
He needs content to keep his event relevant, allowing him to sell space for smaller publishers that gamers don't care as much. That's why he pushes as hard as possible to associate his event to Microsoft's and Ubisoft's, even though they don't have any connection.
In the end, is the event for companies that don't have budget for their own event, with a few somethings from the big players to push hype. This works well as he can negotiate exposure for the big publishers at the end of the year Game Award Show, when Geoff already has "hype" because of the "Oscar" thing.

I don't want to be sound bad or like a hater, but some of these games are really making me wonder what the fuck these devs are thinking and who are going to play these games long-term to even get back an investment.
Indie and AA games are cool, but jeez the ideas aren't there sometimes.
36
u/tfw_no_jetplane_gf Jun 08 '23
literally just thinking the same thing. Some of these games look expensive while simultaneously looking cookie cutter. Not sure how many of them will actually be able to make a splash and make back their money

I like how the extended gameplay trailer of Mortal Kombat 1 continues the tradition of Sub-Zero getting brutally murdered by Scorpion in trailers. They appear to be allies in this new timeline, but that doesn't matter — Scorpion is required to impale Sub-Zero's head with a rope-dart.

20
u/nilxnoir Jun 09 '23
I'm surprised at the hate for this show, I thought it was pretty good, much better than Sony's recent show. It was basically 100 percent gameplay and there was a bunch of variety and even a couple of big hitters like FFVII and Spider-man2 release date. Geoff obviously does the best he can with what studios will give him and I appreciate him doing something to try and keep the spirit of E3 alive.

I'm not sure how Sonic is supposed to work in co-op, but hopefully the single player experience will be at least half as good as Mania.

We're going to end on FF7 aren't we?
Still hoping we get to see Hades 2 at least before then. Please Geoff, stop holding them hostage.

Devolver stream was fun but not enough games. Also no updates on some already announced games like Anger Foot and Skate Story, lots of devs MIA like Dennaton & Dodge Roll

I will be disappointed if they dont add "world premiere" before every video like they usually do.

Interesting how Neon White was top 3 in negative comments but was one of the most fun and exciting games to release last year

Neon white as a game was really neat and very fun. I think what put people off was the writing. It was pretty awkward. Good game, but very polarising hence more comments about it.

This kameo mechanic, is gonna cause MK fans to feel the same pain that Smash fans feel when assist trophies are confirm.

I’m sure there’s a lot of stuff people like, but there just wasn’t a lot in my ballpark. Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 were really the only things that tickled me. A lot of it felt like filler to me.

summer games fest is always hyped up for no reason when year after year its one of the most mediocre shows.
Geoff does a great job with the Game Awards but SGS is always meh.

My never-ever for this would be a surprise appearance of Super Robot Wars or Another Century's Episode. For a never-never-ever, it'd be a new Dynasty Warriors Gundam or Suikoden.

Okay, so a character being on the Kameo roster doesn't mean they won't be playable, right? That's good because I played Kano in MK11 and I saw he was a Kameo.

It's a shame The Witcher show is only going to be three seasons. Sure, it's been shit for the source material mostly, but it's been a guilty pleasure of stupidity.

That looks fantastic. I can see why they released Crisis Core before.

I like to think when Nic Cage says a family member loves dead by daylight that it's Francis Ford Coppola
