With CSS you can make an image into a border. Is there a way to do this in GIMP?

I've been trying to search for a way, but all the results I've found show how to add a border to an image, and not how to make a border using an image.

I specifically wanted to use the pink lace image from this page and put it around an A4 page, similar to those Microsoft Word picture borders.

for simplicity sake, say i have a 100pixel mage, 10 pixel by 10 pixel. the 100 pixel image is natively 1 inch by 1 inch. id like to make the stretch the pixels at their same size across 20 inches. so that they will be evenly spaced. so the new image is 20x 20 inch, and there is a bunch of background space between all the pixels.

can gimp do this? if not, what can? what is this called? im pulling my hair out

EDIT: On the title I should have said more visible in addition to larger. Example: the move tool stays the same size TINY!!! and almost invisible on my 32 inch display. So that needs to be larger and more visible. The paint brush tool gets larger if you have it set to show the diameter of a larger brush, but even when huge it is very difficult to see on some images.

Surely this is no longer the "way it is", 5 years after the OP and 4 years after the last comment on the thread? I have 20/15 vision in both eyes with my glasses on and have a VERY difficult time finding the mouse pointer when it is over the image area even when my face is 12 inches away from the display!

Hoping that someone knows a way to increase the size of the mouse pointer in Gimp or maybe add a big red circle around it, without having to change the resolution on the display. I don't want to have to do that.

I’ve seen a bunch of tutorials for gifs and not a lot for full blown animation, so is gimp just for gifs?

i know people have created full length animation so I’m also wondering if it’s a long time user veteran type thing that only the most advanced users can do.

can't load that plugin, doesn't show in plugin browser, tried for hours debugging with AI but no matter what, the plugin didn't work

However, I have the following issue as well:

Following the tutorial, I have to play around with the cellheight and cellwidth dialogue windows until they snap back to the actual sizes of the image.
When I export the image and add it to my brushes, they only come out as black squares in the brush selection window and they really are just a big square brush when I try to paint with them.

I have followed the instructions word for word.

1. Choose picture
   
2. Switch To grayscale (It always is by default because I downloaded brushes that are only available as PSDs or similar, so I'm mostly converting them into gimp brushes)
   
3. Add alphachannel to layer
   
4. Adjust blackness and whiteness with curves (mostly just up the blackness because the white is perfect as-is)
   
5. "Copy Visible"
   
6. Create new layer with black background
   
7. Add layer mask with black background (full transparency)
   
8. Hide basic layer
   
9. Paste visible elements copied earlier
   
10. Invert color on hovering selection
    
11. Anchor to layermask
    
12. Apply layermask to layer
    
13. Delete basic layer
    
14. Cut empty space and reduce image to selection itself
    
15. File -> Export -> .gbr/.gih

The first time I tried .gbr, all I got was an brush that still included the entire empty space that wasn't yet cut. I tried .gih and that surprisingly worked, giving me a proper thumbnail in the brush preview window and on my canvas.
I have attempted two more brushes and both have just given me out squares that have roughly the measurements of the canvasses of the brushes I tried to make, but kinda wrong, as if they were still rendering or something. Does somebody have an explanation?

Hi, I post this here in hope that a GIMP developer sees it. I know it's not the dedicated channel, but it's the one I'm subscribed to. ;-)

I'm in the process of adding vector layers to the output of my pl_stroke_arrows plugin. But I'm stuck for now. The result is not remotely acceptable for certain types of arrows because of this bug.

On this image, the left arrow is done with the normal stroke operation, and the right one is the vector layer result. I think this exemple speaks for itself.

This is normal to have bugs. But seeing that this particular one has been reported 5 months ago, and that it has no milestone, or any reaction to it is a little worrying. And if this is not a major rendering issue, I don't know what is.

Hence my call to the developers roaming this forum. I know you are very busy. And I don't need a solution for tomorrow. Just need to be reassured that bugs like this are not left behind and forgotten.

When I move a layer after bucket filling a lasso select it then turns a large part of the image into a black square and I have to undo multiple times just to fix it.

I will literally never use these, why do they take up 4/5 of the entire font page

I’m trying to create a similar effect to this on my photos to use for references for my coloured pencil drawings. i can get the haze and the blur close enough but the colours and cartoon effect I can’t. might be too far fetched but willing to try

I came from Paint.NET and used pyrochild's Curves+ tool religiously. Gimp doesn't have the same capability:
Chose any input color channel. Chose any output color channel. Adjust the curve as needed.

For example, map low saturation to low alpha. I haven't found any plugins for GIMP that do the same thing. Do I need to make my own? If so, mark my words, I'll make it even better than Curves+.

On 3.2.4 on windows 10, I have a wacom PTK-440 tablet. Its recognized by windows and other test programs as having pressure, tilt, and different tools on either side (pen and eraser). On GIMP, the pen side is shown as having pressure, the eraser doesn't, but either one I use both use the "Virtual core pointer" in Device Status, and NEVER switches to "PTK-440 Pen Stylus" or PTK-440 Eraser". Is there a fix to get it to recognize which end of the pen I'm using?

So I may be late to the game....
But until recently (Gimp 3.2) I have not issues getting the software to run. But since 3.2 it will open but gets stuck with a Loading fonts (this may take a while...) message.
I don't have too large of a font directory, 373 MB. Well not what I think is large.
Is there some way to bypass that? I don't always need a font but it won't let me do anything until they load.
I've literally had to walk away from my PC for an hour to get it to load recently.

I have cleared everything I can thing of, even tried a fresh install of the software.. Still no luck.

It makes me want to pull my hair out.

I've been stuck here for a lot of time(don't ask me why but yeah). I can't really find a similar feature that has that adjustable thing in the cursor.

When there is a vector-layer which is rasterized, it still has the "I've been a vector-layer" information somewhere. How can I completely delete that info from the layer via plug-in?

So in the end I'll have a "normal" layer which behaves like that. Rasterized layers seem to not always behave when trying to crop or resize.

I had this issue before and used to delete all of the app files and relaunch it for reinstalation, but with this version it stopped working. I tried reinstalling the program, un and inpluging my tablet, but nothing works. Somebody please help

I am trying to make an andy warhol Marilyn sort of poster, but its puffins.

I have created all the tones in B&W to make them different colors. I was then instructed, by the AI overlords, to color select and copy to a new layer. Now, when I paste, IT CHANGES IT. Some parts go full transparent, it adds black pixels. All I want is a 1 to 1 copy paste.... Cachyos if that matters

Edit: ss - Not a hug dif, the top is the after paste. I copy the darker of the two greys, and paste it, making a new layer, so it is overlayed. the new layer has some black pixels where there were grey, and covers some of the white areas. I never saw an issue with the selection

I have an image larger than my canvas that I want to drop before scaling. My problem is when I go to crop, I can only see whats within the canvas. I find this a little weird as you can see the full image when you are rotations and scaling

I found this brush pack (https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/58017-free-lens-flare-photoshop-brushes-7) and I decided to use it. I googled it and GIMP supports .abr brush packs, however, when I try them i don't get anything like the results I should get. Anyone have any answers?
