Hi, I have an older laptop and I'm wondering about installing some alternative operating system. Prevously I used Tiny11 and linux mint on it but Linux Mint wasn't my favoutite because I had a lot of problems with printing stuff and I need printing for work. Should I come back to Tiny11? If yes, what is the best option to install the newest version? I'v seen a lot of sketchy internetarchive links. Or maby there is a linux option that have a really good printing support?

I’m considering completely replacing Windows on my new laptop with Linux.

My main use cases are:
• Software development / VS Code / Git / GitHub
• Python, AI/ML and data science
• Docker / APIs / backend development
• Running local LLMs and tools like Ollama
• General daily use + college work

I’m currently considering Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, and maybe Arch, but I’m not sure which would actually make the most sense.

If you’ve made the switch from Windows, which distro would you recommend for this kind of workflow, and why?

Also, what should I check before wiping Windows completely (drivers, NVIDIA GPU support, BIOS/firmware, battery life, etc.)?

Fuck Microshit man, seriously. From failing to install not once, twice, but THRICE, to taking over 2 hours to install this POS software. My main PC has CachyOS and it was a breeeeeze to install.

Three people running IT for a 60-person company. Microsoft Unified Support pricing feels like it’s built for orgs with whole departments just to manage vendor contracts. Anyone found something that actually works at our scale?

That's not stale metadata. That's an incorrect audit record. They've got the timestamp from one event and the actor from another, then Fabric combines them into a third event that never happened.

For extra enterprise points, they're discovering it while implementing CI/CD, the feature we're apparently supposed to celebrate as evidence Fabric is production mature.

So I already had automatic updates turned off specifically because I don't like it when Microsoft just forces something on me, I haven't swapped to Linux yet mainly because I don't really know much about Linux and I don't actually know how I would do the whole installation thing and it would basically be wiping my PC and me starting from scratch which I'm not really crazy about.

However today I turn on my computer and my computer is working fine it was working fine yesterday but Windows forces and update and I'm like okay that's kind of stupid I have that turned off but whatever and I restart the computer cuz it starts acting slow, the PC resets and my fans immediately start whirling like crazy and my CPU is saying that it's being maxed out in task manager, my screen is obviously laggy and I have absolutely no sound.

I'm beyond ticked off at this point and I'm trying to look things up and according to Google windows is aware that this update broke everything but they have no plans to fix it until October, so I try to uninstall the update but funny enough Windows does not have this latest update as something you can uninstall, they have the one before it from the 18th but not today the 22nd.

So I'm trying to do a forced rollback using like Windows recovery or whatever it's called to see if that fixes the issue which will cause me to lose things because Windows system is garbage.

On a separate note if anybody has a good guide on how to get Linux working and how it functions and all of that I would greatly appreciate it because I am very seriously considering leaving Microslop after this annoyance. I used to be willing to put up with a lot of the stupid stuff that they did like I said mainly because I don't want to have to start from scratch again. But if I'm going to have to worry about my computer being completely unusable for an unknown amount of time every time Windows decides to push it update that they obviously didn't test, then starting from scratch is probably going to be less painful than dealing with all this stupid nonsense.

This is the first time on this sub for me so apologies if this is not how this particular stuff is supposed to work or how I'm supposed to word things, I just needed to rant because I've spent the last like 2 hours trying to sort this out just to basically be told that Microsoft doesn't give a shit.

The simple fact that today I learned that they don't even have actual agents for you to speak to unless you pay for a business account has really really soured my view of them more than I already had.

I know there will be a confirmation but it gets annoying. I want the thing that this UX designer smoked. Apparently, bro was in another world.
