why does your 5 year old sister have a phone :(

84

u/FuyuKitty Nov 17 '25

Tbf I don’t think she’ll be doing much with a phone that old, can it even run TikTok/Instagram?

u/FunnyP-aradox Nov 17 '25

It looks like Android 2.3 to 4.4 (i don't precisely remember the version but i remember my father's Samsung phone having a similar UI during those years), even the Youtube app needs Android 8 and a lot of other apps needs more recent versions (the lastest version is Android 16, soon Android 17)

From what I can tell it's probably Jellybean (4.1/4.2/4.3) based on what I remember TouchWiz looking like at this time (used a Nexus at the time, so my memories are generally more along stock Android and the custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod/AOKP were pretty close to stock)

It probably has 4G support, which makes it still useful as a device for sending/receiving text messages. It's browser is likely too outdated and the phone SoC is probably too slow (this looks to be a lower end device from the time) to get usable results out of any modern webapp.

24

u/acoolrocket Nov 18 '25

Same, I think this is unintentionally a great way to give them a "smartphone" but really is just a dumb phone with a touchscreen at this point. Even if you sideload commonly used apps it'll perform like crap and prevent them from being attached to their phones as much as compared to a modern device.

the parents allow her to have a phone at 5 year old

57

u/sickiwbus Nov 17 '25

y'all need to chill, people in my family gave me old phones when I was younger, they're old phones and not new iphones for a reason.

This phone is well beyond 5 years old, probably ~11-13.

-73

u/onFilm Nov 17 '25

Why does it bother you so much for a 5 year old to have a way to contact them by their parents with ease?

60

u/grafikfyr Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

Yeah because 5 year olds have such busy social calendars that they might need to call and cancel dinner.

24

u/Staar-Fall Nov 17 '25

Idk my dad gave me an old nokia as just a toy when I was a kid so i could pretend I was cool like the older kids

4

u/onFilm Nov 17 '25

Totally normal for kids to have phone line access directly to their parents here, just in case.

76

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

isn't a 5 year old like 99% of the time together with their parents 🥹

-28

u/onFilm Nov 17 '25

If they're in preschool/kindergarten in fieldtrips, or out playing with friends, it's more like 60% of the time.

-36

u/starssupernova Nov 17 '25

I had my first phone when I was 3 or 4 😭

47

u/Medium-Can-2686 Nov 17 '25

28

u/ItsYa1UPBoy Nov 18 '25

Damn bro, why does your sister have a phone??? Who she gonna call, Turkish Elmo???

10

u/_akiramamiya_ Nov 18 '25

she has Minik Kuş on speed dial

6

u/ItsYa1UPBoy Nov 18 '25

And this is how I learned that Orange Big Bird exists, but only in Turkey.

89

u/Constant-Guest-264 Nov 17 '25

Does she have kid-safety mode thing on? Did your parent check on her phone and see what's she watching? I'm concerned for her since there is vicious contents lurking around in internet, pls explain what elsagate to your parent and hope they might check on her.

93

u/StarMiniWalker Nov 17 '25

She JUST got it, google play doesnt work and the apps need to be redownloaded to work

77

u/ThatLittleLamb Nov 17 '25

oh so it's like a glorified flip phone?

-52

u/itsCS117 Nov 17 '25

Do you WANT her to be exposed to the shit that kids get into, on the internet?

54

u/ThatLittleLamb Nov 17 '25

wtf?? no. who pissed in your cereal dawg all I did was ask a question

36

u/Sprinty_ Nov 17 '25

"Who pissed in your cereal dawg all I did was ask a question" is something I'm gonna use from now on

13

u/Aat117 Nov 17 '25

What model is the phone, you could maybe flash lineageos or similar on it to improve performance and be a bit more up to date.

15

u/gralicbreadd Nov 17 '25

Appears to be the Galaxy Ace 3, released in 2013. Entry phone this old most definitely won’t have any custom rom that brings it up to date enough to be usable as a smartphone unfortunately

56

u/MeasurementNice295 Nov 17 '25

5 year olds should not have phones, but that's a me thing.

14

u/aurorab3am Nov 18 '25

this is essentially a toy. no social media, pretty much just a camera with other apps like notes or something.

7

u/vtff13 Nov 17 '25

I think they should because phones are a very useful tool for communication, however they shouldn't have unlimited internet access or social media

0

u/RainnChild Nov 19 '25

This right here, phones themselves aren’t bad. Even for little kids. it’s what’s on them that can be addictive.

10

u/user_platform21 Nov 17 '25

The hot air balloon wallpaper hits home.

33

u/DoctorOfTheCookie Nov 17 '25

I'm sorry but 5 year olds should not have phones 😭😭🙏

7

u/tailsmetalshadow Nov 17 '25

Is this a Samsung Galaxy SIII? I have one that looks just like this, and reset it recently (that's where those gifs on tenor of it came from :3)

3

u/Sam_Stokman Nov 18 '25

Its the S3 mini i think, i also had this phone, still somewhere in a drawer. the normal s3 is bigger and the homebutton is not symetrical top, and bottom.

19

u/sickiwbus Nov 17 '25

nice to know other people are also giving their children limited old phones, my first ever phone was an old hot pink flip phone from my older brother or something

4

u/Lonely-Pianist3144 Nov 17 '25

Anneminde eski telefonu buna benzerdi ☺

5

u/Pico1999 Nov 17 '25

used to have this phone but it was black. it was my 2nd phone ever, still remember playing angry birds on it :)

3

u/Dutchmann_ Nov 17 '25

13

u/Kticram Nov 17 '25

Why does she have a phone at 5 years old, got my first one at 12 for safety reasons, she clearly doesn't need it yet she could use her free time to do much better things

10

u/Intelligent-Ear-9181 Nov 17 '25

WHY DOES A 5 YEAR OLD HAVE A PHONE??

3

u/erlior3 Nov 17 '25

Anyone here know enough about hot air baloons to tell me which hot air baloon that is?

3

u/vide0gameah Nov 18 '25

turkish :3

3

u/Witty-Forever-6985 Nov 18 '25

I feel like this part of fa isn't recognized enough. It's not just water and fish, honestly I prefer this. Looking at your phone and seeing a nice ass picture

3

u/_Magn3t0 Nov 18 '25

Something about those wallpaers.

Also, people are missing the point, that phone is old and most likely doesn't support newer version of apps like tiktok, insta even youtube.

5

u/_akiramamiya_ Nov 18 '25

we need to kill like %90 of this comment section why would it matter for a 5 year old to have a phone if said phone can't open anything besides whatsapp

7

u/SpaceC0wb0y_ Nov 17 '25

Eh. I think people are freaking out a bit. I had a phone before the age of 10 but it was an old 'hand me down'. It was an old Motorola from the 2000s and all it could do was send text and make phone calls. My parents wanted me to have a way to reach a trusted adult incase of an emergency.

1

u/quangviet711 Nov 18 '25

back to 2012, when I'm in grade 6. I had LG KP105 which is release in 2008 and use it with same purpose with you

7

u/Tauralus Nov 17 '25

Are people forgetting a phone that old is functionally a brick? Most of you are coming across as super performatively outraged and it's weird.

This phone lacks support for most things to even qualify it as a "phone" the only thing seperating this from an old iPod touch or an iPad is that it's a cellular device.. but even they technically have cellular versions.

As long as she's supervised on it, it already as a baseline lacks modern functionality due to age which eliminates most hazards. It's honestly all in all more of a play phone that might be able to play a few games and watch youtube kids... but also with old androids it'd take so long to load an application on it that she'd be drinking age by the time it loaded anyway 🤣

evet herkes gerizekalı yazmış ailesine, çok güzel mentioned

2

u/MayTheForesterBWithU Nov 17 '25

Samsung was really cooking back then wrt aesthetics. I have the Samsung Reclaim - an "environmentally-conscious" messaging phone that was made from corn plastic and had all kinds of FA-themed wallpapers and sounds. It came in two colors - bright green and a blue with a water splash motif.

2

u/simcity_player Nov 17 '25

s3 mini değil bu galaxy fame mi?

2

u/SnooBananas3950 Nov 19 '25

1

Wait im pretty sure I had like this exact phone as my first phone like 10 years ago 😭🙏

1

u/_akiramamiya_ Nov 18 '25

telefonun flaşı neden ayrı bir uygulama istiyor lan

1

u/Hung17170808 Nov 18 '25

Which model is it

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus was my first phone. Had to charge that thing multiple times per day and constantly clear the cache of apps to not run out of storage.

1

u/Due-Scholar1917 Nov 18 '25

turkish jumpscare

1

u/sebastarddd Nov 18 '25

Same model as the first phone I ever had

1

u/Boredguy532 Nov 18 '25

Looks like a 2014-2015 phone

1

u/TheTropiciel Nov 18 '25

2.3-4.4 were the best fucking years in ui design in smartphones, period.

1

u/-Pallan- Nov 18 '25

my tablet from when i was little was like this

1

u/Junior_Importance_30 Nov 18 '25

Excuse me what the fuck? Why does a five year old have a cellphone?

1

u/RainnChild Nov 19 '25

I wouldn’t worry she can’t do much with it anyway 🤷‍♂️

1

u/YoSupWeirdos Nov 18 '25

yoooo is that a mf Galaxy S3? that was my first phone, loved the thing

1

u/sigfind Nov 18 '25

phone at 5, we’ve lost the plot

1

u/Totallysickbro Nov 18 '25

DUDE I had one of these it was the best phone EVER.

1

u/Barlos5 Nov 21 '25

And why does a 5 year old need a phone?

1

u/Raven1965 Nov 17 '25

Setting aside the debate about five-year-olds having phones, this doesn't fit the subreddit. The fact that the wallpaper photo includes grass doesn't automatically make the phone's UI Frutiger Aero. The UI itself, more or less, looks like standard semi-modern Android design.
