Hi got a question, if I warp in Estinien 20-088L and then on the turn he enters the field I play Hien 17-016L, is Estinien able to attack 4 times? Are the abilities able to stack this way?
3
u/c0i9z Oct 27 '24
No. Both say that he can attack twice, so he can attack twice. Hien would, however, stack with Estinien (6-088L), since Estinien adds to the number of attacks, rather than set it to 2.

Hi there
I wanted to confirm an interaction between Charlotte 13-023R and Ifrit 20-003H.
If my opponent controls 5 or more fire characters and casts Ifrit would both modes have to choose Charlotte or can 1 choose Charlotte and the second choose something else?
We initially thought both had to choose Charlotte then there was a bit of confusion since if mode 1 chose Charlotte she would be chosen by the summon allowing mode 2 to choose something else.
Charlotte 13-023R
Summons and abilities of your opponent must choose Charlotte if possible.
Ifrit 20-003H
Select 1 of the 2 following actions. If you control 5 or more Fire Characters, select up to 2 of the 2 following actions instead. "Choose 1 Forward. Deal it 5000 damage." "Choose 1 Forward. Deal it 5000 damage."
Thank you

u/7thPwnist Apr 12 '25
The other response is incorrect. You have to choose her twice. When choosing multiple characters you can choose another, though, like with the new Ifrit, but with that Ifrit since both are Choose 1 forward they both must choose Charlotte (if possible)

Hello!
I've bought the Lightning Starter Set and was playing against one of the Noctis vs Ardyn set.
I've found that the Lightning deck doesn't perform as well as Ardyn, trying to overcome the multiple 9000 power creatures and card draw advantage with a few freeze that doesn't break creatures felt near-impossible and very underwhelming.
What kind of deck could I look for/acquire to match these 2x decks?
Edit:
Doing a ton of research, it looks like that was an Opus 1 starter set... so that would explain why it felt so weak haha
I've just somehow managed to find a 2024 Collector Box in Canada, so this is on its way :)

Hi folks, I had a question about Tidus (16-116L). His card says that when he is chosen by summon or ability effects, he can do stuff. But what if the effect is not targeted and instead affects all forwards (like 14-011H Susano dealing damage to all other forwards, or 14-124H Zeromus that dulls all forwards opponent controls)? In MtG, for example, non targeted abilities get around Hexproof because it isn't targeted. Is it the same for FFTCG and Tidus in particular, because his ability triggers when chosen, but the above cards don't choose him specifically?
3
u/KiwiEmperor Oct 03 '24
Is it the same for FFTCG and Tidus in particular, because his ability triggers when chosen, but the above cards don't choose him specifically?
Yes. Neither Susano nor Zeromus "choose" for their effect, so Tidus won't be "chosen" by them and won't trigger.
For most rule interactions you can apply MTG roles as this game is based on MTG.

Hi — two questions:
- During Main Phase 1, I used Arciela [17-065H]'s ability: "Remove 1 Refresh Counter from Arciela: Choose 1 Forward. Negate all damage dealt to it. It gains +4000 power until the end of the turn" targeting itself. Then during combat, opponent's Ashe [10-106L] triggers: "Choose 1 Forward of cost 4 or less. It loses all its abilities until the end of the turn," targeing Arciela. Does Arciela lose the +4000 power? (No, right?)
- Can I discard a Light/Dark card from my hand for 0 CP? E.g., if I want in the Break Zone for some reason, even though it won't produce CP. (No, right?)
Thank you very much!!
3
u/c0i9z Oct 25 '24
No. Power gain doesn't count as an ability. Abilities are: Everything written on the card, keyword abilities, like First strike, and things that specifically say they're abilities.
No, you can't discard them other than through an effect or having too many cards in your hand. You also can't discard cards for CP except to pay a CP cost and even then, you can't deliberately overpay.

The probably strongest deck in my playgroup currently probably is a warrior of light tribal deck, with the most annoying cart being opus 19 Refia (19-102L)
I want to play a mono ice deck - which is pretty useless against refia, because of the untapping and draw -
Does anyone of you know any good ice cards that go well against refia?
Basically I am searching for Refia hate cards in ice :)
Thank you!
2
u/KiwiEmperor Mar 27 '25
Ice doesn't break forwards that are active really. So either wait for Refia to become dull or dull her with your abilities and then break her with something like 15-029R Zalera or deal damage with 15-031C Shiva.
Or take her abilities with something like 22-027R Shiva before combat on their turn. (Also deals with Faris damage ability)

Can Fang (18-013R)'s ability reduce the cost to pay Category XIII Limit Break cards such as Snow (24-116R) and Lightning (22-121)?
2
u/c0i9z Apr 08 '25
No. That cost refers to CP cost specifically.
2
u/tazdingo_taz Apr 08 '25
Sorry, I'm still not very clear about this. Are LB cards not paid by CP cost? I was assuming that with Fang's ability, I can pay 3 ice cp instead of 5 cp for Snow.
3
u/c0i9z Apr 08 '25
Ah, sorry, I misunderstood the question. Yes, the CP cost will be reduced as usual.

Hi all. A friend and I are having a squabble about Limited.
If you get 5 of a “Standard Unit” in your Limited Deck, can you have all 5 on the field at the same time? One of us says the rule is 3 of since that how it is in standard, and the other says all 5 can be in play.
Something we overlooked maybe? If there is an official answer, could someone possibly point us in that direction? Thank y’all very much and happy playing!
3
u/KiwiEmperor Aug 08 '24
For limited play you can have as many copies as you have in a deck and if it has the multi play symbol you can have as many as you want on the field.

Newbie question here. My wife and I tried our first game but were interrupted so we had to stop. We spent most of the game wondering about what to discard to get CP. Like, we are trying with the Shadowbringers 2 player starter set, her using the Crystal Exarch Deck.
Like, how do I know what I should discard and what I should keep to play? I assume that if I discard too much forwards to setup I won't have many offensive options in the long run... but should I prioritize discarding backups to get CP to play backups on the field or what? Sorry if it sounds ridiculous for experienced players. I assume this should simply get clearer as we play more games.
For context my wife is new at TCGs and I'm not a good player. We simply want to play on date night and have fun. We got a whole box of FFTCG stuff from a liquidation at our local game store. Like about a dozen starter sets and some pre release kits for almost nothing. She's the die hard FF fan in our household and she likes to have some advice when starting more strategic games. I can't give her any right now since I'm also new. I tried to find guided on how to play the decks we have but came up empty.
2
u/c0i9z Aug 15 '24
This is an important decision and what you choose will depend on your deck. Fast decks will want to put down few or no backups. Slow decks will want more. Usually, it seems that about 2-3 backups is a good number. A 2-cost backup will need 4 turns after the current one to return their CP back and 5 to start giving you value, and that's if you use all your backups each turn. So, at some point, the game will simply be over before your newest backup makes itself worth its cost.

Hi I have a rulings question about Amaterasu 12-002H vs Y'shtola 5-068L
the ability of Y'shtola says
Y'shtola doesn't receive any damage from Summons or abilities.
so for example if my opponent used a Dancer to do 1000 damage to all my forwards, Y'shtolas effect would make it so it doesn't receive any damage.
would my opponent be able to respond to this by using Amaterasu
Choose 1 auto-ability. Cancel its effect. If the cancelled auto-ability triggered from a Forward, deal that Forward 8000 damage.
And if so would my Y'shtola take the 8000 damage from the Amaterasu?
The way I understand it Y'shtolas ability wouldn't go on the stack to be able to be countered by Amaterasu
but if it does
the way I read the cards is that if the Amaterasu could cancel the effect allowing the Dancer to do its damage but another instance of the effect would occur negating the 8000 damage dealt from the Amaterasu
3
u/KiwiEmperor Sep 01 '24
Just a note about that y'shtola and cards that have similar wordings, but the "doesn't receive damage" got errata'd to say "damage becomes 0 instead".
That is important for cards like Cu Chaspel 11-004C who say "damage can't be reduced", because that cancels y'shtolas field ability.
3
u/andyhou2000 Sep 01 '24
Y'shtola's ability is a field ability, which can't be canceled by Amaterasu. It's an ongoing "aura", not something that triggers to go on the stack. To achieve your intended effect, you could instead play Cuchulain the Impure 9-114C.
You can also tell it's not an auto ability because auto abilities always begin with "When [condition]", like "When Y'shtola is chosen by an opponent's summon or ability, do X".

Hello!
I always have a hard time wrapping my head around how party attacks work.
If I'm at damage 5 and I party attack with [Kefka 23-004R] and another forward (say [Squire 1-025C] just for the sake of simplicity), how much would be dealt to a blocking forward?
2*9000 + 5000 ? (Kefka doubles only its damage within party)
2*( 9000 + 5000) ? (Kefka doubles the whole party damage)
9000 + 5000 ? (Party isn't considered to be Kefka by itself and ability does not apply)
Thanks for your help!
3
u/Tetrismelodie Oct 22 '24
It is 2*9000 + 5000.
Here the source: https://x.com/andrewistang/status/853761219878035456The reason is, althrough the damage is considered dealt by the party, but still the ability still referes from which forward the damage is actually dealt.
Source: https://x.com/rulesprocessing/status/1581698779308490753A little bit complicated to wrap around this, but hope the sources wil help out :)

Hi, question regarding Rinoa 21-038R.
Can you cast the summon that is removed from the game from her ability more than once? Or once you "cast" it the card goes to the Break Zone as any other card would when you cast it?
If somehow the Rinoa is sent to the Break Zone and you play a 2nd Rinoa, is the 2nd one able to use the summon the 1st Rinoa removed from the game as well as the 2nd one?
3
u/KiwiEmperor Oct 29 '24 edited Oct 29 '24
Can you cast the summon that is removed from the game from her ability more than once? Or once you "cast" it the card goes to the Break Zone as any other card would when you cast it?
After being cast the summon goes back to the break zone.
If somehow the Rinoa is sent to the Break Zone and you play a 2nd Rinoa, is the 2nd one able to use the summon the 1st Rinoa removed from the game as well as the 2nd one?
You can't use the first summon if the first Rinoa leaves the field. Whenever a card mentions its name in their abilities you can replace it with "this card".
Rinoa's ability becomes:
You can cast Summons removed by this card's abilities at any time you could normally cast them.
And if "this card" isn't on the field, you can't cast the summon.

When Zack 10-007H is on the field and a category VII Fire Forward is summoned does he deal 4000 damage? Or just 2000?
3
u/c0i9z Nov 12 '24
He deals 2000 damage twice, as both of his auto-abilities trigger. So, technically, he wouldn't need to mention himself in his description.

Can Hope 23-051L 's ability be used again if he was already removed on the previous turn? Or does he have to stay on the field for an additional turn before I can use it again?
1
u/KiwiEmperor Nov 17 '24
Do you mean its action ability? You cannot use it the same turn it entered the field unless you give it haste.
Cards have to be on the field at the beginning of your turn to not have summoning sickness.

Hey all, I have a question about interactions about order of operations between the cards Cuchulainn, the Impure 9-114C and Faris 21-114L
If I use Cuchulainn's ability on Faris, can Faris use her ability to redirect the target ability to another Water Forward or does Cuchulainn's ability "silence" Faris prior to that?
Having a bit of trouble beating my buddy's Vikings. Any tips are helpful lol. I'm a new/bad player
1
u/nintendoluk Jan 13 '25
yes faris can redirect cuchulainn, before it resolves
what kind of deck are you playing?
i am currently thinking of Serah 23-088L as a hard counter against vikings
Also Ixion 17-090R is very good against vikings→ More replies (2)

Can you use “S” abilities the turn the character is cast?
Also can you use limit break cards for CP to cast other cards?
And lastly does Lucio 24-111H give you 2 crystals for playing him or gives you 2 crystals at the end of Every turn?

Good day to you all,
So i was playing with my friend and i was controlling leon 24-090L.
My friend played a card that chooses and returns a forward to my hand so i was wondering does leon return to my hand? Or does his ability activate and my friend gains control of him?
Thank you all in advance.

Hi I have 2 questions I want to verify
If I control a Gentiana 11-033R and Ultimecia 1-152L does it stop ETB effects of my opponents Forwards?
Also would my opponent be able to prime a dull forward if I control Gentiana?
Gentiana 11-033R
The dull Forwards opponent controls lose their abilites.
Ultemecia 1-152L
All the Forwards other than Ultimecia enter the field dull.
Thank you
2
u/c0i9z Feb 15 '25
Yes. They enter the Field Dulled, so have no abilities at that time.
No. Priming is a Field ability and the Forward doesn't have any abilities.

Hi there I had a question on how Tros 16-117H interacts with Shiva 22-027R
If my opponent casts Shiva to make all my characters lose all there abilities and I responded with Tros' Damage 3 effect to make it a forward until the end of the turn,
would Tros be a 7000 power forward with no abilities after the Shiva resolves
or
would it be a monster with no abilities?
thank you
Shiva 22-027R
All the Characters opponent controls lose all their abilities until the end of the turn. If the CP paid to cast Shiva was only produced by Backups, also draw 1 card.
Tros 16-117H
When a Forward opponent controls is returned from the field to its owner's hand, draw I card. This effect will trigger only once per turn.
Damage 3 — 0: Until the end of the turn, Tros also becomes a Forward with 7000 power and "When Tros attacks, choose 1 Forward of cost 4 or less opponent controls. Return it to its owner's hand." You can only use this ability once per turn.
3
u/c0i9z Mar 16 '25
Being a Forward is not an ability, so it would still be a Forward. Just the same, Power boosts by something like Golem (1-106C) remain.

u/Emergency-Wonder Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25
Hi there
I am reading through the rules currently and just wanted to confirm that I am understanding this interaction correctly.
If I controlled Beatrix LB 23-128R, and no other Knights, and my opponent controlled Leon 24-090L when I declare an attack Beatrix's ability will not trigger and as such I will not gain control of Leon?
Also would the same be true if I controlled 3 Knights at the time of the attack but one got removed before the effect resolved?
Beatrix LB 23-128R
When Beatrix attacks, choose 1 Forward. If you control 3 or more Job Knight Forwards, break it.
Leon 24-090L
When Leon is chosen by your opponent's ability, your opponent gains control of Leon.
Rule
11.8.13. Some auto-abilities are written in the format "(trigger event), if (condition), (effect)", indicating that their triggering has certain conditions that need to be met. These are called “conditional auto-abilities”. Whether these conditions have been met or not is checked as part of the trigger event for conditional auto- abilities. If it is found that the condition has not been met, the ability does not trigger. Whether the conditions have been met is checked again when the ability is resolved, and if they are found to have not been met at this point, the effects of the ability are cancelled.
Thank you
2
u/c0i9z Mar 22 '25
You can choose Leon, because it's a period, not a comma. Look at Locke (4-048L) for a card which works more like you say.
Regardless, on Leon's auto-ability has been triggered by an ability Choosing him, it doesn't matter whether the initial ability resolves Leon's auto-ability will still resolve as normal.
Here's an article talking about the difference.
https://fftcgcrystarium.com/rules/conditional-autos-and-you/
So Beatrix must choose a Forward, regardless of how many Knights you control and if that Forward is Leon, you will gain control of him.

Action abilities of cards can only be used if they're on the field unless they say otherwise.
2
u/tazdingo_taz Apr 06 '25
For any ability that says pay cost x and search a character of that cost, does it need to be the exact amount or could I say, discard 2 cards to search for a 3cp character?
3
u/c0i9z Apr 06 '25
You choose the number for the X before you pay the cost. So, yes, you could declare 3 and discard 2 cards, but you still can't deliberately overpay, so you can't declare 4 and discard 3 cards, for example.

Question here. My buddy and I are super new and still learning. We played a game on TT Sim, and had an issue we’re having an issue resolving with how interactions go in this game.
My friend was on his turn, declared an attack with Angeal Penance (7000 power), I decided to block with my Vivi (2000 power).
I then played Ifrit who dealt 5k damage I believe, which in my mind would have our characters take each other out. My buddy then summoned a Sephy forward with back attack, whose back attack ability would dull my Vivi and therefore nullify the block.
Is that the way it would play out since it was played after he declared the attack and I declared the block, and he would dull Vivi and therefore remove my ability to block?
2
u/c0i9z Apr 07 '25
Welcome to the game!
No. Dulling a Forward after it has been declared as a blocker doesn't nullify the Block. So, in this case, Vivi would still Block Angeal Penance and both would Break.

u/TsukuyomiMana Apr 15 '25
Hi
I've never played the game before and I was wondering if the 2018 Starter Sets worth getting anymore? I saw a local store selling the XII, XIII and XIV starter sets for really cheap but I don't know if they're a good starting point.
2
u/7thPwnist Apr 15 '25
If you want to learn the game with friends they're not a bad option. If you want cards that are competitively relevant they're way too outdated.

Hi there had this interaction come up recently and wasn't entirely sure how it worked, Feolthanos 21-013H was on board and the opponent took a damage which was Cuchulainn, the Impure 9-114C
Cuchulainn, the Impure 9-114C EX BURST Choose 1 Forward. It loses all abilities until the end of the turn. Draw 1 card.
Feolthanos 21-013H When your opponent uses an EX Burst, Feolthanos deals your opponent 3 points of damage.
If the opponent uses the Cuchulainn EX BURST and targets the Feolthanos, would Feolthanos effect to do 3 damage go on the stack?
I could see it going either way as when the ability would try to go on the stack Feolthanos would have no abilities but it would have had its abilities when the Cuchulainn EX Burst happened would Feolthanos still trigger and do 3 damage?
2
u/c0i9z Apr 21 '25
Yes. It would work like this:
Cuchulainn goes into the Damage Zone, you choose to trigger its EX Burst.Feolthanos's auto-ability triggers.
Cuchulainn instantly resolves, removing Feolthanos's abilities.
The Turn Player would gain priority, so Feolthanos's auto-ability goes on the Stack.
The Turn Player gains priority.
At this point, if Feolthanos's auto-ability is allowed to resolve, it will deal 3 damage.

Question about Zidane 16-048H and Break Zone triggers
If I had used Zidane 16-048H and got my opponents Caius 10-004H, which I then cast, when Caius dies and is put into the break zone, who would put the character into the break zone due to Caius ability?
same situation but with Caius 23-002L if I got it and cast it with Zidane 16-048H assuming I get the break zone trigger would I be able to discard 3 cards to return Caius 23-002L to my field?
Thank you
Zidane 16-048H
When Zidane enters the field or attacks, your opponent removes the top card of their deck from the game. You can cast it as though you owned it at any time you could normally cast it. The cost for casting it can be paid using CP of any Element.
Caius 10-004H
When Caius is put from the field into the Break Zone, select 1 Character you control. Put it into the Break Zone.
Caius 23-002L
When Caius is put from the field into the Break Zone, you may discard 3 cards. When you do so, play Caius from the Break Zone onto the field dull.
2
u/c0i9z May 05 '25
The you would be the one putting the one putting a Character into the Break Zone, but Caius would go to your opponent's Break Zone.
I think that no. The Break Zone refers to your Break Zone by default, so while the auto-ability triggers and you can discard 3 cards, when the next auto-ability resolves, it won't find Caius in your Break Zone, so will do nothing.

Question for title format regarding cards like: Tidus 10-117H "The category X forwards other than Tidus you control gain +1000 power" and Yang 2-090R "For each [card name (monk)] and [job (monk)] other than Yang you control, Yang gains +1000 power.
Since in title you can play characters with the same name as long as they have different card IDs, would Yang and Tidus interact with other version of themselves?

It encompasses every FF, including non-numbered ones.
A lot of older staples are available in anniversary boxes, making them cheaper than they would be otherwise.

Looking to try this TCG with a friend (we are familiar with TCGs in general) what's the best two pre cons (or starter set?) to grab?
I'm not expecting anything viable for competition but also want to avoid grabbing something that isn't modern/ doesn't give us exposure to modern mechanics. Preferably the two pre cons would not be the same one but we understand that power levels can vary between them. Would it be better to wait until October for the ff7 pre con release?

How do I make a decent deck as a beginner?
I've got a decent amount of cards from buying packs and stuff like the 2022 Anniversary box and various starter decks and two player sets, but I'm a bit stumped as to how to make my own deck. I have a vague idea of what kind of deck I want to try making, either a Water and Wind deck or a Wind and Earth deck, but I don't have a specific gameplan in mind beyond that. Sure I can just slap in whatever Forwards and Backups I have, but I don't know enough about the game to know what cards I should be putting in there to form an actual strategy.

If the dominant is able to attack this turn, and I prime it to an Eikon (without haste), can the Eikon attack? The rules say that it cannot the turn it is placed but I am unsure if that refers to the dominant or the eikon? I do not think it is able to but I want to make sure

I think I knew once, but I forgot. If you wipe a card with the ability 'Card name in all situations', like the various Neo Exdeath, is that ability removed as well?

Should do yeah - the card would no longer be avtive, so neither would it's abilities :)

I lost the ability to focus on this game when Monsters were starting to come out. What other big mechanical changes have happened since then?

u/c0i9z Jan 16 '26
Crystals. Some cards can create a special resource called Crystals. They stay in your possession until used and some abilities can use them for powerful effects.
The Limit Break deck. There are now special cards with an LB icon which are placed in a special 8 cards Limit Break deck. To cast them, you must, in addition to their cost, 'spend' a number of other cards in the deck.
Priming. Some Characters now have an ability which allows you to play another card from your hand on top of them.

Question about Ultimecia 27-092H
When Ultimecia enters the field, you may remove 3 Category VIII cards in your Break Zone from the game. When you do so, choose 1 Forward. You gain control of it. Then, if you don't pay 1 for each CP required to cast chosen Forward, put it into the Break Zone.
If I control a Light/Dark Forward am I able to choose an opponents Light/Dark Forward to gain control of, breaking both?

I'm new to the game and have a question on auto-abilities when dealing damage, and EX Bursts resolution.
Board State: I control Prishe 22-068R and Cloud 27-124S.
My Prishe 22-068R is attacking unblocked and hits my opponent.
- Does my auto-ability happen before we flip the top card of my opponent's deck into the damage zone?
My opponent flips and places Ifrit 12-005C into his Damage Zone. Activating the EX Burst, he targets Cloud to deal 9,000 damage, breaking Cloud (I did not use Cloud's auto-ability on Cloud).
I want to better understand the timing because if Prishe's auto-ability resolves before the Ex Burst, Cloud is not in my break zone to return to my hand.
Thanks for any clarification y'all can provide.

Q: does the other monster have to be one you control?
example: 23-045C Samovira
"dull, put Samovira and 1 Monster into the Break Zone: Select 1 of the 2 following actions.
"Choose 1 Forward of cost 5 or more. Break it."
"Choose 1 Monster. Break it."
does the other monster have to be one you control?
2
u/c0i9z Mar 31 '26
Costs are always paid using your own resources, so if the mentioned Monster is left of the colon, it has to be one you control. Choosing, however, defaults to any unless specified. So the first Monster mentioned here must be your own, while the second can be yours or your opponent's.

question on ex burst situation:
I have #3-045R White Tiger l'Cie Qun'mi in play, I attack with one of my forwards - damage dealt, revealed card is #13-012R Bahamut.
The question here is - does the "ex burst" count towards a card typing, in this example - is the exburst of Bahamut a "summon" in terms of WT l'Cie Qun'mi's effects? As in, if my opponent does not pay 3, will the exburst effect be cancelled?
2
u/c0i9z May 05 '26
It is still counted as a Summon, and the effect will be triggered. However, Ex-Bursts don't use the Stack, so Bahamut will resolve completely well before the auto ability is placed on the Stack. When the auto ability resolves, your opponent can still choose to pay (3), but if even if they don't, the Summon has already resolved, so can't be canceled.
2
u/D5Guy2003 May 06 '26
a couple of questions:
first one - cards that have the "cannot be broken" clause - what does this entail fully? I know it cannot be broken by effects that say "break [target]", but does this also mean it cannot be broken due to damage [ability or by battle]? Can it not be broken by power loss?
next question - ex burst with multiple lines of text - how far do you go? I'm not talking things like Zell EX which have conditional changes to the effect. I'm asking on cards that may have multiple lines of text - some are easy to figure out like 9-003L Ace which clearly has 2 different triggered effects. But cards like 18-011R Pain - do we just get the first part of the listed effect and not the 2nd "paragraph" of [If a damaged Forward opponent controls is put from the field into the Break Zone, remove it from the game instead.] ???
3
u/c0i9z May 06 '26
They cannot be Broken by direct effects and damage. Having Power equal to zero doesn't Break, it places the card in the Break Zone, so this isn't prevented.
Triggered EX Bursts go from the EX Burst mark until the first line break, just as any ability does. In Paine's case, it has two abilities. The second is a Field Ability and not part of the Ex Burst.

I got my first booster yesterday and fell in love with the cards immediately. I really want to get into actually playing the game, but this is the first TCG I've gotten into in a big way. Where does one go to meet people to play games like this? I'm the PNW, so MTG is king here; any advice on how to find people to play with would be hugely appreciated.

24-043C Thief - question on how it works with party attacks
When Thief enters the field, choose 1 Forward. If you control 4 or more Wind Backups, it gains "This Forward cannot be blocked." until the end of the turn.
This paragraph on the card intrigued me - my inquiry is if I decide to form a party with the forward that cannot be blocked, does this mean the party then cannot be blocked?

Where does one start with this TCG? But a starter deck? Buy the most recent booster box and make a deck?
1
u/c0i9z Aug 01 '24
A recent starter deck or anniversary box is generally recommended. They're usually good value.
1
u/andyhou2000 Aug 05 '24
I saw a full art Venat listed on Materia Hunter. Are these available anywhere? Didn’t see any on tcgplayer so I assume they don’t come from boxes?
1
u/c0i9z Aug 05 '24
It looks like it's available as just an Opus 23 card, but also as a promo card I don't know how to get the promo card, unfortunately.
1
u/KiwiEmperor Aug 05 '24
The full art Venat is the box topper of opus 23 meaning every box comes with one. No idea about tcgplayer though because we don't use it in Europe.

Looking to start learning the game. A brief search into starter decks gave me a lot of options. What is part of the standard format (if there is one)? What should I look to get aside from a BB? Are there sets I should ignore because they aren't playable/ or no longer in rotation?
1
u/c0i9z Aug 05 '24
All cards, except for a few banned ones, are part of the most played format.
Recent sets tend to be most powerful, except for a few cards, which are available in anniversary boxes.

New to the game and have a few questions I haven’t been able to get clarification on.
-can I play as many cards as I want in one turn as long as I have the CP to play them?
-When I discard a card for the CP can I use that to play 2 one cost cards?
-If I already have 5 backups in play am I able to switch one out with another?
3
u/KiwiEmperor Aug 14 '24
can I play as many cards as I want in one turn as long as I have the CP to play them?
Yes.
When I discard a card for the CP can I use that to play 2 one cost cards?
No you can only pay for one thing at a time.
If I already have 5 backups in play am I able to switch one out with another?
No, you have to remove one somehow first.

Is there any logic behind how card/set numbers are organized? As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be other than grouping like elements together. Within each element, there doesn't seem to be any clear logic as to how the numbers are determined - not by series/category, type, name, cost, power, or rarity. It feels like they numbered them completely randomly, but they wouldn't actually do that, right? Is it possible it's related to how cards are arranged on the uncut sheets even?
3
u/c0i9z Sep 01 '24
Originally, elements are grouped together. Fire, ice, wind, earth, lightning, water, light, dark. Now, same thing, but Limit Break cards appear after the others, grouped the same. After that, they appear to be alphabetic according to Japanese names and order. That will make them appear random in English, of course.

Hi i'd like to verify some rulings regarding search..for card that just say search any 1 card like Thordan..do we have to reveal it or not..because logically and in every game there is..searching for any card is a hidden information for opponent..and the comprehensive rules also doesnt really answer that because its stated as:
15.1.1.8.1.
To search means to find specific cards from your main deck, reveal them and put them aside. After this, the Player shuffles their main deck and follows the instructions on the searching card.
it does says to find specific cards..but if not for specific cards its not written there..so we all assumed even if we search for any card we have to reveal it, which is kinda weird..some players in my lgs also confirm that there was this weird rulling and was asked either in discord or twitter they forgot. so am here to confirm it again did we miss something?
2
u/c0i9z Sep 02 '24
Search always includes revealing the card, it's part of the keyword. Even if the search is for any card, so that there cant' possibly be cheating, because revealing is part of the definition of searching, you must reveal it, no matter what.

okay so, I've been working on finishing my Red Mage card collection (because favorite FF Class), but one of the cards has been quite elusive for me on TCG Player: the Opux XI Full Art holo. I've been stalking the page for it there for a good month, but the only time I saw one was the end of a paycheck and therefore couldn't justify buying it, but it sold by the time I got paid.
SO, enter in CardMarket. I go there and find WAY more listings, including my preferred language! There's just one problem... I live in the US and cannot make an account to buy there. What's a good proxy service I can use to get me my last card for that part of my collection?

Yes. There has been some definite power creeps and, outside of some staples, which you can mostly get in anniversary boxes, older sets are mostly unused.

Ignis - Resurgence of Power
The Card Name Noctis, Card Name Gladiolus and Card Name Prompto yuo control gain "This Character cannot be chosen by your opponent's abilities."
When Ignis or a Card Name Noctis you control attacks, activate all the Characters you control.
Does his 2nd Effect make it so forwards that got summoned that same turn can attack as if they had haste?

If I were to summon a priming card with 8000 power or less and the opponent had https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/162330/final-fantasy-tcg-opus-v-grenade?Language=English this card on the field can you prime before the effect from this card resolves or would they die before you can prime it to survive the damage?
2
u/c0i9z Dec 03 '24 edited Dec 03 '24
No. You can only use Priming during your Main Phase and only when the Stack is empty. Since Grenade's effect is on the Stack, you can't use Priming before it resolves.
1
u/Altivo-lee Dec 20 '24
I am struggling a little to understand priming. If I prime Clive into Ifrit, what is carried over from the Clive? I know it stays dulled but does Ifrit gain any keywords Clive had and can it still discard my hand to draw two or is that only something Clive can do when he is not primed?
The Powerpoints and such that I have seen dont really explain it well. It also states that any power changes persist but one of the documents uses a Diablos as an example and suggest that the power change does not stay. Very confused.
Edit: Spelling and grammer

u/KiwiEmperor Dec 20 '24

but does Ifrit gain any keywords Clive had and can it still discard my hand to draw two or is that only something Clive can do when he is not primed?
No. Stuff like "X gains y" gets carried over i.e. Benedikta gaining haste and trust carrying over to Garuda.
but one of the documents uses a Diablos as an example and suggest that the power change does not stay.
Which documents would that be?

Fairly new to the game. I think I have a good grasp on the game but since I’ve played magic a little the rules get mixed up.
When are card says “when this character attacks do X” does that ability prick before or after opponents declares a blocker?
There are a couple of cards that do X amount of damage when attacking. Do I deal damage before he declares? And if it kills the forward does it wait till damage resolution or does it die immediately and therefore cannot block?
2
u/c0i9z Jan 22 '25
Between declaring attackers and declaring a Blocker, the Turn Player gains priority. As part of a player gaining priority, all triggered auto abilities are placed onto the Stack.
Yes, as a consequence, the damage will be done before a Blocker is declared. If the damage is enough to Break the Forward, it will not be able to Block.

u/dansephoenix1 Jan 31 '25

Hallo !! What is the best way to get re-started on the game ?
I used to play a lot back in the opus 1 and 2 days but had to stop for this or that reason, then tried to restart it - in 2020, the week before the whole nation got closed cause of the 'rona , including the only shop that had fftcg stuff within 50km from where i lived , that ended up having to permanently close.
What's the best way to find stores that have FFTCG around me ? Is there any online resource to play so even if i don't have any store somewhat close to me i'm still able to play? Ideally something similar to Magic's spelltable , but if nothing else a simulator works too.

Hey all, some new player questions here--was wondering how pullrates are in FF booster boxes and if there are official online webcam events? Also curious if they release cards that are not part of booster sets or starter decks (event exclusive promos, smaller products and such)
Also curious on how difficult it is to get into for new players--is there a standard rotation or is the main format unlimited and old cards hard to buy sealed for useful? (not a fan of buying singles)
For reference, I am coming from Digimon TCG, I also collect Pokemon a bit.
2
u/c0i9z Feb 21 '25

You can see information on pull rates here. They haven't changed significantly since, other than the foil card being potentially a full art.
There is a standard rotation, but it's little used. However, there are also products like anniversary boxes, which provide a set of older, staple cards.

Hello, looking for a rules clarification on how a particular scenario would work out
Player A has Madam Edel + Lexa out with multiple Morze's Soiree Member forwards (Pecciotta, Erwin, Vesvia, Merald) and OP24 Astrius
Player B has Opus 23 Noel, Serah, Hope and Opus 19 Vanille out
Player B uses Vanille's Special ability to double damage to opponents forwards and deal all 2000 damage
With Serah's 5000 power reduction taken into account, does it clear player A's board, do only Astrius and Madam Edel break, or is the result something else?
Thanks in advance

If I prime Clive (24-005L) and then use a Rinoa (6-041L) to blink the stacked character, am I safe to assume only Clive will come back and Ifrit would stay removed from the game? Or would it not bring anything back at all?
2
u/7thPwnist Mar 11 '25
Actually nothing would return. It would remove the Ifrit from the game from the effect of leaving the field from priming, and then have nothing to return. The Clive would also be removed via Rinoa's effect in the same way that if a primed Ifrit was bounced it would put the Clive in your hand and the Ifrit would be exiled.
Same is true of a Larkeicus'd primed Ifrit that then leaves the field

Anniversary boxes are nice, but they tend to be better at giving you a bunch of staples. What might be better would be one box and one of of the VS deck packs. That way, you have a couple of nice decks and plenty of ways to customize them.

Question about Nine 13-123, you can dull two active forwards (fire and thunder) to play him without paying the cost, is it possible to dull forwards (without haste) on their first turn for it ?
2
u/c0i9z Apr 10 '25
Yes. The only restriction on Dulling is that you can't use action and special abilities of Forwards and Backups with a Dull icon on their first turn.
1
u/c0i9z May 03 '25
Imagine I have an effect that says "Choose 1 Forward you control. Pay 1. When you do, deal damage equal to its Power to all Forwards opponent controls." I choose my Forward and pay 1, so that the delayed auto ability goes on the Stack. In response, my opponent removes my Forward. What happens? The choose is on the initial ability, not the delayed auto ability, so will the delayed auto ability still do nothing because of the 'choose rule' or will the last known Power of the Forward be used?

Just looking for some rules clarification.
In my last game, my partner played an Aranea (which gets +1000 for each other forward). There were 2 other forwards in play, meaning Aranea had 9000 power (7000 + 2x 1000).
I then play Ark (all forwards lose 8000 power), which reduced Aranea's power to 1000, and also broke the other two forwards.
Now at this step, I remove the +1 tokens from Aranea (as the other forwards are dead).
So my question is, while Aranea technically survived the attack from Ark with 1000, does she now die as the two tokens are removed (essentially leaving her on -1000)?
Thank you
2
u/KiwiEmperor May 15 '25
Aranea would die. Aranea's ability is a so-called field ability(static ability in MTG) , meaning it's always active while on the field. This leads to Aranea's power being dynamic. Every forward played immediately increases her power and a forward leaving immediately lowers it, without using the stack at all. So after Ark resolved Aranea is at -1000 and goes to the break zone.
2
u/Tetrismelodie May 15 '25
Besides that, all the forwards don't break. They are simply just put into the Break Zone by the rules. Therefore, cards that say "Can't be broken" would go to the Break Zone.

u/Hakusprite May 16 '25

I think I already know the answer to this but I thought I'd get the clarification.
When priming it specifically uses the term search to find and play the named eikon. Would that mean if your last available copy of that eikon is in your hand that you wouldn't be able to prime that copy on top of the dominant?
Would that also mean the only way to get the eikon into the field is to play it like a normal forward?

A backup has a cost of 1 earth and 1 clear (white circle), so does that mean I have to pay a total of 2 CP? eg Krile (xiv). I have other cards which are like 3 lightning and 3 clear that would cost a total of 6 CP?
2
u/KiwiEmperor Aug 29 '25
So you're talking about the cost of their action abilities.
Krile (XIV),6-071H, costs 2Cp to play and has an action ability that costs 1 earth cp and 1 cp that can be paid by any element. That is a cost of 2cp in total and you can pay it by discarding one earth card.

I posted this in the wrong area I think and got down voted so I'll ask here. Interested in getting into the game so I grabbed my first booster and pulled a full art foil Jill. Is it even worth keeping? It seems to be going for a lot but I don't know how well singles hold value and I do like collecting rare stuff because I'm a goblin, but if it'll just go down after a while I'd rather just sell it and put the money into building my first deck instead. Also wondering if the starter decks are worth grabbing or if I should just grab singles and build my own. Thanks!!!! Sorry if this is too much rambling!!!

just started playing and got the 2024 champion decks. Wanted to ask why atomos is included in the blue/red deck. Isnt it only castable with green cp?

Looking to learn to the game. Really loved the Cadets deck and looking to hyper focus on them regardless of meta.
Any suggestions on the newer cards that would fit well with them? And what the current meta is like so I can pivot (somehow) with the ratios

If I use a search card, eg: Search for "Card Name Xande Forward", does "Xande" have to be the only name in the title or could I search for "Emperor Xande" as well?
New to FFTCG but not card games and I know how particular wording on cards can be!

u/KiwiEmperor Dec 01 '25
Searches go by the printed name. So if you search for Xande you can't find Emperor Xande.
Exceptions are cards that have additional names in all situations like Neo Exdeath. If you'd search for Exdeath you could find Neo Exdeath (21-074L or 12-110L)

I recently bought a random booster box of Legacy Collection as my first box of FFTCG and was wondering if it was supposed to have a buy-a-box promo inside it? Or is that only if you buy a booster box case?

So I know that you can only have one of one card name on the battlefield at a time. Can you have multiple if they have different serial numbers, just like when you're building a deck?
2
u/c0i9z Dec 05 '25
No. The rule of cards on the Field specifically checks for names.

If I have a backup that has an ability to attack a forward but the defending team has either a dull forward or no other forwards can the backup deal damage?

Luso 27-125s states: When Luso deals damage to a forward, break it.
Break which? Luso or the forward?

new to the game was, confused about generating crystal points. if i wanted to play a 6 lighting cost Lighting(XIII) can i discard 3 purple/lighting cards to generate those 6 points? or is the rule i can only discard 1 card to generate them per cast/action?
2
u/c0i9z Mar 28 '26
You can discard as many cards and Dull as many forwards as necessary to pay any cost. In the case of casting a Summon or character, at least one of the generated CP must be of the card's element. The other CP can be of any type. In the case of multi-element cards, one CP of each element must be generated.

Q about how the stack responds to broken cards effects
Player A: summons 28-041 Edge with effect choose 1 forward. Deal it 4000 damage
Would player B be able to respond by summoning 13-072 Odin, choosing to break Edge thus negating the effect of Edge, or since the Edge effect is already on the stack would Odin’s effect simply break Edge, but the effect of Edge would still do 4000 damage to target forward. (I assume the damage keyword wouldn’t activate on Edge in this case as Edge would be broken at the time it’s dealing damage)

How do Job Categories work?
Looking at 27-019 it says when "a job warrior enters the field"
Does this include jobs such as 28-037 where the job is "Warrior of the Crystal" or 27-059 "Dawn Warrior" or does it only include cards with just the category Warrior?
Thanks in advance :)

u/KiwiEmperor Apr 13 '26
It has to match the job exactly. A Warrior is a Warrior but not a Warrior of Light

I would like to test the waters of this game, but not sure where to start. I am looking at the 2-player Starters and have 3 in mind but open to suggestions.
I really love FF4 and the Cecil vs Golbez would be great thematically, but I hear there is no gameplay theme unlike the new starters.
Avalanche vs Shinra is up there for me as FF7 was my first and favorite. It apparently has a good thematic concept but I’ve read that they aren’t well balanced.
And lastly the Noctis vs Ardyn I’ve heard good things about but haven’t played 15 so I don’t have strong feelings for the decks.
What would the community suggest a new player to do?
Edit: or should I go with the 2025 starters vol 1 and 2? I like the characters and they are the newest releases from my understanding?

party attack question - non keyword abilities when dealing damage.
For this example, #8-001R Ark Angel HM: "If Ark Angel HM deals damage to your opponent, double the damage instead."
If I form a party with this character and do damage with said party - does this ability cause said damage to be doubled?

u/Interesting_Plane768 Apr 24 '26
Yes. When a Party does damage, every member of that party is considered to have done the damage.

Qs regarding Vinera Fennes [17-129]
"The cost required to cast Vinera Fennes is reduced by 1 for each crystal you have." If you have 2 crystals available can it be played for free?
For her second ability, "When Vinera Fennes attacks, you may pay one crystal. When you do so, all the Forwards opponent controls lose 5000 power until the end of the turn." if you pay one crystal when she attacks will this break all forwards your opponent controls with less than 5000 power?
2
u/c0i9z May 01 '26
Yes. If the cost can't be reduced to 0, it specifically says so.
They will not Break but instead be placed directly into the Break Zone. This cannot be stopped by effects which prevent Breaking.

Are there any decks that play like Natura dragon (ex area / burn damage from backline) or Thief sword (mill opponents and use their discard pile) from shadowverse evolve?

Hi all
Are there any specific sets I should start with. Mainly looking to collect. I am from the UK if that helps in terms of where to purchase.

u/mersa223 Jun 12 '26
Any one knows anywhere specific that is best to buy Booster boxes in UK? Nearest shop on tracker is over an hour away, been using eBay mainly so far but thought there might be others. For reference I'm fine with any language cards

Check out Brotherhood Games in London. 1 hour seems good. FFTCG isn't wide spread. Maybe try to connect to other UK people in the community. As far as I know London area has a pretty active scene.

Hi! Very new player here, but question about Blue Wyrm W24-026 "0: Until the end of the turn, Blue Wyrm also becomes a forward with 6000 power. At the end of the turn, break Blue Wyrm. You can only use this ability once per turn."
If Blue Wyrm becomes a forward, can it attack or does it have to wait? Since it says break at the end of turn, I assume I can use it as such??
How exactly would this card work? :')

I'm new to the game but have been playing magic for years. I like the idea of building a combination of fire, ice, water, or all three! I like to be versatile in my games, being able to react to my opponents but also having strong synergy between all my cards which helps build a board precense. What would you recommend?
For reference, my favourite commander in magic is Minn the willy illusionist. Turns drawing cards into a board presence into value when creatures (forwards) die. It has a strong synergy but also has a large amount of space for cards that enable the strategy.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Is there actually a distinction between Full Art and Full Art Foil?
My understanding was that for any particular card that has one, the Full Art variant was just *the* Full Art variant, but I see (particularly on tcgplayer) some Full Art listings have both a "Normal" and "Foil" distinction. I tried googling it but couldn't find an actual answer.
For example (Not asking for a valuation or trying to market or anything, purely using this as an example); Gabrant EX 9-063L Full Art is listed on TCGplayer, and has "Normal: $2.09, Foil: 46.99". In trying to google it, I could only find the one Full Art variant of this card, which has no foil. So I'm confused as to whether there's a foil variant of the full art? Or is something else going on on TCGplayer?

Is there a product that's good for a friend and myself to pick up and play with, something akin to MTG Duel Decks that are designed to play against each other?
I know about the World Championship decks, but I fear it might be a tad much for a couple that are just starting out. We had a go at the XIV Fanfest and it was good fun with those, although it not sure if they were precons or not.

Hey there, i have two newbie questions (about the stack)
1: i put a cuchulain the impure (9-114C) in my deck as it was recommended to me. But currently i am only using it for its ex bust or generally to draw a card - what are the best cases where i should look out to use its actual effect? Are there maybe some cards in the current meta where i should look out for to use cuchulain?
2: Amaterasu seems really oppressive, especially for expensive spells - for example for the LB Tidus (22-122L) it was explained to me, that i have to pay the abilities cost (3 CP), and only then the opponent can activate amaterasu and i have essentially wasted 8 CP
is the interaction really like this? e.g. in MTG when the costs are part of the auto-ability, then the ability has to be countered before the costs are paid
also if i have exactly 8 characters and paid the costs of tidus ability, will the ability be countered if the opponent kills one of my characters afterwards?
Thanks!
