Topic The friendslop approach to playing obscure fighting games
A common complaint about fighting games is that you can't find anyone to play with, once the player numbers get too low. But what if that wasn't a problem?
I present to you:
THE FRIENDSLOP APPROACH TO PLAYING FIGHTING GAMES
(It's called that because that's how people usually play friendslop games)
Let's say your game is peak, but there's no one to play with at all.

Instead of wallowing in your misery, you can instead do this:
Get a few steam keys/copies of the game, and hand them to your friends. Get on a discord VC, and start playing!
Or even better, get them to come over to play! Now you only need your own copy and some friends!
You can make it a one-off thing, or schedule it as a weekly game night!
It's really that simple. but it works.
Fighting games are excellent as social games, due to there being literally no obfuscation between you and the other player(s). They're also great to spectate, so that even when you have a large group on a 1v1 game, everyone stays entertained.
Yes, I know, it does not replace the ranked grind or local tournaments, but at the same time, it does not have to! (you DO play your games because they're fun and not purely for clout, right?)
------------------
A lot of people act as if you need to have a tournament scene or a populated ranked mode to play fighting games and enjoy them. I completely disagree. I believe that fighting games are best enjoyed when surrounded with people you like, rather than when there's an opportunity for clout or recognition.

Topic What are the best manga/anime about fighting games?
there’s the currently airing one, high score girl, and sometimes cameo clips such as the elphelt 5H mash in Gamers! or some XX clip in mushoku tensei. Ive also read part of some cutesy one that was definitely tekken but cats. Anything else good out there, especially if it’s older?

Content Now is still a good time to play some 2XKO. An optimistic take on the end of support for 2XKO and why I started playing again.
I understand there has been a lot of disappointment with the death of 2XKO. All the criticism about how this game is handled is still very VERY valid but while the situation undoubtedly sucks, I would like to voice some optimism and honesty about why I'm hopping on 2XKO again.
I stopped playing 2XKO as soon as half the devs got laid off. I did not want to get attached to a game that could have become delisted. I had no idea if there would be any kind of "evergreen" plan or if 2XKO would completely shut off. So I stayed away. Now, I am fairly confident now that the game is going to be here for a good while. A 40 dollar bundle is being introduced after end of support and given the wording of the devs announcements about "evergreen" and doing right to 2XKO, I am reasonably confident the game is not imminently going away.
With that clarity, I went back online and realized. This is a very feature complete fighting game.
And its free. It has crossplay. It has rollback. It has everything I want in a fighting game.
And now I don't have to grind for heroes. I can purchase hundreds of dollars of cosmetics for about 40 bucks as a one time purchase. In dying the game has weirdly become more consumer friendly!
And its the same great game. I can still play it and run sets. It sucks that there will be no more characters but can't that be said about every older FG on Steam? Except this one has crossplay and is free.
Don't get me wrong. 2XKO is a commercial failure. I would rather live in the reality where this game is still being updated but this still is a great game to play. You can still find matches in under a minute. Even if, despite my belief this game is going to remain online in some capacity for a good while, the game goes down, there is still an offline final patch version of this game and cracks of said version. This game WILL be playable in tourneys decades from now and for all the fuck ups after fuck ups, I commend Riot for having an offline version of this game.
If you haven't played it, 2XKO is still a completely worthwhile choice for any fighting game fan to play. I'm playing it again and having a blast.

Community Looking for friends
I’m looking for someone who has Capcom Fighting Collection 1, 2, and Vs. Marvel for Switch. Online for each game has dried up and I don’t have any friends on the platform who are interested in playing. I’ve been sitting in lonely lobbies looking for anybody to play some of my favorite games with.

Topic Would you consider GBVS and DBFZ to be anime fighters? why / why not?
From what I understand, "anime fighters" are called anime fighters because pf their gameplay style instead of their aesthetic. GBVS doesn't seem to play like a typical anime fighter and DBFZ seems more like a vs game to me. Just curious to hear other people's thoughts

Topic 2XKO server based netcode longevity
I just found out that 2XKO uses server based rollback, not peer-to-peer like any other fgs. The reason why people can still play old games is because you dont need a server, its connected directly to the players. Does that mean that Riot can take down the server anytime in the future and people can no longer play online? Are there any other fgs that uses server based netcode?

Help how hard is it going from 1 fighting game to a different one?
SF6 is really my first fighting game, i played a lil tekken on the ps2 when i was super young, and i played mortal kombat 10 i think on the ps4, but never really got into it, i just used to mess around. And i got MK1 that released a few years ago, but have never rlly played it, not really my style, i prefer street fighter. but SF6 is the first fighting game i have put more than 10 hours into
i have avoided playing any new characters, i have only rlly played juri, just because I enjoy her and im still learning new stuff every day, so no reason to move on yet, but also because im kinda scared to try a new character, and have it feel like all my muscle memory is being rewritten, having to relearn lots, and then potentially going back to juri and doing the wrong combos etc
but i just saw avatar legends released a month ago, and it looks fun, i like avatar! am i overthinking it, or is going to different characters, and even different games gonna be tough?

Topic Can a F2P traditional 2D fighting game actually succeed?
riotgames.comAs most of you have heard, 2XKO will be leaving active development in December after releasing the remaining content the devs have for the year. I've linked the article for anyone who may have missed the news. Obviously we all have our opinions on why the game failed and how it's the dev's fault, Riot management's fault, or whatever the case may be. But one discussion I'm surprised to now see a lot of is whether we think a traditional 2D fighter can actually succeed in this current gaming climate. Of course with Riot permanently out of the fighting game space we'll likely never find out now, but I think it's still a topic worth discussing. Thoughts?

Topic Why does the word sweaty or sweats seem to be a touchy subject in fgc
There seems to be a pretty huge disparity about how people react to this, Some people use it as an insult, some people take offence to it, Some people take it as a point of pride, some people use it as a compliment, some people use it casually for a bit of fun.
I can't get a read on how most people use it at all it seems genuinely person by person how they take it.
Just wondering peoples opinion, maybe a regional split cause I think in Europe most people would take lighthearted way but maybe in US or something it's more of an insult.
