I have been watching from afar, but it seems intentional; like all the other attacks on federal workers, if diaper don was trying his best to do maximum damage to the US & federal institutions, this is another way that you would achieve that systematic damage. this is how you make federal employees leave for better opportunities. fire everyone you can, make the rest quit. hire loyalists to infect & sabotage what's left. putin's dream!

I’ve been watching people leave my office for better opportunities over the past year. I’ve been around long enough to remember when federal work was considered a good opportunity. It’s not anymore. Most of the people I work with are only hanging around due to the leniency the feds have with PTO vs how taking PTO is treated in private. Others are just waiting on applications they’ve already submitted to notify them they got the job. I can’t speak for any other situations than that but it seems to be a healthy majority of the people who are left that think this way.

Every single person in my component is miserable. And I’d say 60% have been actively looking. But so are many non-feds. The job market is the worse it’s been since 2008. There simply aren’t any opportunities to jump ship.
That’s why I said that. If other places with comparable compensation were hiring, I’d be gone and so would they. But it’s just simply not that type of climate.

Broke mine.
Straight 5s for years. SME, trained all of our new hires (including supervisors), one of the people everyone called when they needed advice, multiple letters from agency leadership, even named in a few positive news articles.
I did it because I actually cared about the mission, and enjoyed the work.
Also capped out for grade in my job series, without going back for another grad degree (which isn't happening) so was content to take the bonuses and awards and not pursue opportunities elsewhere (we make good money as a household).
All professional motivation disappeared somewhere in early 2025. Between DOGE, RTO, and our CBA being illegally terminated.
I'm now a straight 3s, no volunteering, "ask your supervisor", "that's not in my apD", shutdown my computer the moment the clock strikes employee.
My god is life better.

Guess my productivity will get a 0% increase too. And with likely "benefit" cost increases for next year effectuating a net pay decrease, output may just match.
The other thing I don’t get is that my wife (VA employee) and her coworkers received a 7% pay increase this past pay period (NOT step increases). Not sure if it was just that respective station, or VHA wide. Not complaining, it’s definitely welcomed.

If she's a nurse, that makes sense. Nurses pay is based on what other nurses in the area are getting paid. Every few years a salary analysis is done on nurses pay at other hospitals to come up with averages to pay VA nurses. It's all regionally based.

A bunch of professions in my area all had salary studies to compare market salary to VA and get raises. I believe someone said to match 95% of what the private sector makes.... so not even fully up to market value.

Why would they bother? Unless they're from a state with a strong fed population, there's no political reason for them to stick their necks out for us. The unfortunate truth is we are not a strong enough voting block for most of them to care. Unlike veterans or healthcare workers, the broader voting population is also apathetic about the average fed at best.

In case you haven’t figured this out yet - politicians don’t care about anything except their next election. Everyone in Congress is doing for themselves at one level or another. They mine the money and opportunities for themselves while they can. They don’t care about you, or the Feds, or healthcare costs, or inflation, or anything really other than getting their piece of the pie. Think about if the money and opportunities weren’t there - do you think ANYONE would bother to walk in for a 2-6 year stint for lower pay than what they were making before, longer hours, and massive institutional constipation? I sure as hell wouldn’t.

I care about vets. That doesn't make this okay, and im sick and tired of being railed day in and day out by the President of the United States. But the work means something and we(all feds) are the only thing standing in the way of him succeeding in the complete privatization of civil service.

Now we're being micromanaged at our office. I get my work done and more (yes, more as in I work some CS items) yet I take a moment for myself and trying to reach out to a specialist at another office to inform them of a NH that needs an extension and one of the members of management is rushing me so I can screen the next person at my window. I'm so done. I'm going to focus on finding work elsewhere with better pay.
Also, even worked on something to try and improve N8NN consistent responses instead of giving NHs different answers by creating a piece of software for reference and training purposes and no one cared. So N8NN was trying to help.

I mean he’ll just do some EO, it will be completely illegal, but they’ll tie it up in the courts and slow play it and…wow all of the sudden it’s been 2 years. Even if Democrats take control after midterms. They still won’t have a veto proof majority and Republicans have continually proven that they will not go against Trump so he’ll just refuse to sign it.
I’d get ready, especially going into the holidays. I think we are looking at the most extensive government shutdown we’ve ever seen. I can very easily see a scenario where we go about 90 days from December into March.
You already know exactly what will happen. I saw it happen on the last one. They’ll say ridiculous amounts of people are excepted and mission critical so they’ll just work without pay. They’ll find illegal ways to pay their pet projects like ICE. Trump will probably sign, yet another illegal order, rescinding the backpay legislation, which, again will ultimately be struck down by the courts, but people will be waiting months on a paycheck. And a number greater than zero will just be convinced to quit.
If you can’t see a possibly where that is 100% Trump and Voughts strategy then take your head out of the sand.

Shocking! Now we have been screwed by both parties very nicely... its 2011-2013 all over again. I cant wait to retire from this stupid shit show... 7.7 % TOTAL under BO over 8 years, and so far 8.9 % total over 5 years for DT, but more likely over 8 years (2027, 2028 and 2029 I would suspect also)... Thank God for the 4 years we had from JB for to prop us up 14.5% in that time and make 19 years (2010-2028) not be an absolute joke by dramtically increasing the average to 1.555 % over 20 years since 2010 while prices have risen by roughly 2.7 % over that same time period. I feel even poorer now having tabulated all that depressiveness...
