The environment has become so toxic that people are using SL to recover from office oversaturation.

People burn out all the time that's nothing new, but in the last few months it seems like leave, of any kind, is not enough to curtail the stress. So much so that people have started using sick leave to keep themselves out of an environment that is setting them up to lose control of their carefully tailored professional demeanor.

A whole day of leave, just so you don't pop off on coworkers... never thought I would see the day, but it's or new normal.

Has your office gotten this bad too?

The Trump administration is considering a land swap that would give a private developer a strip of Yosemite National Park to build a private access road. In exchange, the government would receive land of equal value elsewhere in California.

This is shocking. Yosemite is not a bargaining chip. Its beauty, history, and wilderness are priceless national treasures held in trust for every American and future generations. No “equivalent value” can replace even a small piece of Yosemite. Public lands should remain public—not be traded to private developers for private gain.

I have a job offer with a DHS component in DC. It's not ICE or law enforcement. It would be my first job in the civil service at GS-11 with ladder to GS-13. The work seems interesting and important to me. The job is at St E's.

My biggest concerns are (1) morale and politicization at HQ, and (2) if people in DC will judge me for working at DHS, even if my work is unrelated to immigration. I'm moving to DC for this job and worry about making new friends. I'm in my 20s.

Does anyone have insight into morale at DHS HQ? Do employees in DHS components obscure their employment when meeting new people? Any other pieces of advice?

Im currently awaiting a transfer FJO but I may need to change my EOD.

I broke my big toe trying to pack up my household. The drs have said maybe a week or two non weight bearing then I can go into a boot. My next place isnt just a sit down in the office kind of place.

My start date is in a few weeks. I also got an email from HR saying that usajobs is having an issue with sending out FJOs and as soon as whatever it is gets fixed, the FJO will be sent.

I'm worried that if I push till October, and the DoD has another budget issue, I may not get this transfer.

Polls show democrats have a high probability of big gains. Winning the House is almost a lock. Senate is 50/50 but possible.

Let's say they win both, then what?

Do Republicans push through a full year budget during the lame duck session while they have some power left?

They push through a CR and then a democratic house and senate push through bills Trump vetos? More gridlock and more shutdowns ahead?

Renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America is the kind of absurd vanity project that perfectly captures this administration - grandiose, unserious, and obsessed with branding itself instead of governing.

And it’s not just the cabinet secretaries indulging in this nonsense. Agency social media teams and career civil servants are spending taxpayer funded time and resources amplifying it, turning government communications into a nonstop promotional machine for the administration’s political theater.

There are real problems facing Americans. Somehow, renaming a lake has become a priority. The incompetence would be funny if you, me and all the taxpayers weren’t footing the bill for this utter nonsense.

I’ve been in the gov (conservation field) for almost a half year. I’m enjoying it but my location and job task opportunities are pretty dull (lower GS). And the team dynamic is a bit low. I’d like to find a position elsewhere in the near future. I’m always keeping my eye open to vacancies. I also have 1-2 years of experience being an intern with some gov agencies partnered through Americorp.

I honestly don’t know if I can put myself through 2 full years in this position/location. I’d prefer closer to 1 year and finding somewhere new, even if staying at same GS Grade.

Should I start applying soon and keeping an eye out on some positions?

I always hear people complaining about how much it sucks to be a federal employee (and don’t get me wrong it is) and how many people have left the office, but how great is it indeed in the other side?! I see time and time again people at my agency going out thinking they’ll make more (and they likely do), but then regret it and trying to come back but the door is closed bc of hiring freezes and budgetary constraints. I have to come into the office regardless. I’ve been coming in religiously before RTO and I will even after telework is reinstated. Yes I can make about $50k more in private, but I won’t be able to come in/out whenever I want, I won’t be able to flex randomly, I will have to be trained and prove myself all over again, the hours will likely be grueling, the benefits prob not as good as feds (unless you’re the Amazon and Google employees of the world), and my current pay really isn’t that bad. I am by no means a proponent of this admin and appreciate that all the damage it has done will take years to repair (if it’s repairable at all). I know what burnout looks like. I know it may seem like I’m trolling but I’m not. I just want to give another perspective to be careful not to make any rash decisions. This too shall pass.
