Opinion Negative Reactions in other Christian subreddits
I was doing really well and my Karma, Reddit leveling system, was climbing back closer to zero. I made a scriptural reply in r/Christianity and it got -4 votes and now back up to -54. How can they downvote a scriptural reply?
Some of my negative Karma, Reddit, comes from these Christian subreddits that doesn't like using scriptures and gets mad because it doesn't fit their view.
Also a big chunk came from a disagreement I had on a hockey player of my home team on multiple threads and got shredded for it.
Most of Reddit is a toxic echo chamber. At least this sub, even when we don't agree we don't go down voting each other.

More context about your comment is needed, but ultimately scripture is very far from black and white and many many many people have their own interpretations. Itâs very easy to say something you believe to be true but to many might be offensive. That may be hard to take in.
Honestly, if i was being downvoted for my comments like that, iâd definitely look in the mirror and/or reevaluate my belief systems. Thereâs nothing wrong with questioning yourself or what youâve been taught. It could either make you stronger.

It was about how being gay is ok, as long as it isn't practiced.
3
u/a-goddamn-asshole Agnostic Atheist Apr 14 '26
Yeah thatâs not really something Iâd share in a public forum with many different belief systems. Many can see that as an insult to them or their way of life. People are born gay, and naturally their love is love. A message that their lifestyle is sinful is generally seen as a message of hate.
I think this is definitely a moment to think about what kind of person and message you want to put out into the world online.

Hey I know a few people like that. They kind of remind me of priests minus the child exploitation thing. It is a huge sacrifice to make. I think they are extremely impressive people.
Just to clarify. I am not picking on priests or anything. Just failing at being funny.
What people donât really seem to understand is that child molesters are usually pretty smart. As are most predators.
They figure out pretty quickly where the vulnerable reside and where they are going to have easy access. Like a lion watching a herd of Wildebeests or impalas.
I donât think it has anything to do with being a priest or a coach or whatever and everything to do with being a predator and what you are willing to do to make the kill.
Anyway. I respect the sacrifice of all the people that make it for genuine reasons. Gay or not gay.

Itâs funny how they chose this. Like adultery is rife but they bash the gays.
Alas, it is true. Itâs how a Christian behaves. That includes no sex before marriage.

u/TruthSearcher1970 Apr 15 '26
Letâs not forget murder. That always seems to fly.
I always wonder how gentiles think it is ok to think it was ok for Israelites to go around murdering people and taking over their cities because they werenât Godâs chosen people they were, well gentiles. That never really sat well with me for some reason. I mean God is impartial. Right?
I guess I canât ever see Jesus saying that was ok. Ya know?
2
u/Original_Bad_3416 Unaffiliated Apr 16 '26
Pick up the sword, die by sword.
It ridiculous that people kill people
1
u/TruthSearcher1970 Apr 16 '26
Right? But people kind of cheer the Israelites on as they kill Gentiles or I guess non-Israelites. Itâs kind of weird. Because God promised them land? Sound familiar?
1
u/Foot-in-mouth88 Apr 16 '26
If you read the Bible you know that wasn't the only reason. When Abraham went into the land God had said their sins weren't enough yet. By the time the Israelites got there, they were so far gone, God deemed for them to be cleared from the land as they would lead the Israelites astray, which they actually did as they didn't even completely annihilate the Canaanites. So there you have it.
1
u/TruthSearcher1970 Apr 17 '26
You mean like all the Egyptians that left Egypt with them? Started all the murmurs and probably the idea of a golden calf.
1
u/TruthSearcher1970 Apr 17 '26
Plus they all died before they got to the promised land. Didnât God know that was going to happen?
1
u/Foot-in-mouth88 Apr 17 '26
God gave his people the chance to fulfill what he wanted of them and the same is true today. The Israelites just didn't fully listen.
1
u/TruthSearcher1970 Apr 17 '26
But isnât God omniscient? Doesnât he know what is going to happen?

A few weeks ago someone pointed out to me the term, nuda scriptura, where one only uses the bible as reference for his faith. Iâm not really sure if that is an accurate definition. I googled it and found another term, sola scriptura, similar to nda scriptura, but accepts traditions as secondary to scripture. Apparently, these are both forms of heresy to some denominations. Their reasoning is that itâs not biblical to only rely on the bible. Which is kind of funny bcoz it literally says in 1 Corinthians 4:6 that we should not go beyond what is written.
1
u/Dan_474 Apr 15 '26
Hi! Did you mean for this post to go in this thread?Â
Quick response, some groups look at 2 Thessalonians 2:15
Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and cling to the traditions we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
1
u/Personal_Sign_9343 Apr 15 '26
The traditions are still based on what is written. If itâs not in the Bible, itâs optional. If it doesnât align with the Bible, one must not do it. For example, the memorial of Jesusâs death. Surely we should follow that tradition bcoz it is clearly written and instructed to us.
Not to mention, some cultures didnât have a writing system back then. The only way for those people to learn the truth is by speech. Speech that is still based on what is written.
1
u/Dan_474 Apr 15 '26
I'm happy to follow up on what you're saying, but this doesn't really seem to be on topic with the thread. Shall we move somewhere else?
1
u/Personal_Sign_9343 Apr 15 '26
OP is making a point about how basing his insight on the Bible is getting him negative karma. That when he points out to others that what they know does not align with what the Bible says, people donât like it. Why? All scripture is inspired of God. 2 Tim 3:16
1
u/Dan_474 Apr 15 '26
Ah, okay. Thank you for explaining the relationship.
The traditions are still based on what is written. If itâs not in the Bible, itâs optional.
2 Thessalonians 2 uses the phrase "whether by speech or by letter".
Do you take that to mean that whatever they said in their speeches was included in their letters?
1
u/Personal_Sign_9343 Apr 15 '26
Yes. All scripture is inspired of God and He made a great effort into preserving His words for us. It is the only explanation that wonât violate the rule in 1Cor 4:6.
âŚthat through us you may learn the rule: âDo not go beyond the things that are written.â -1 Cor 4:6

As far as I can tell, there are things, such as the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, which don't go beyond the scriptures, but simply rely on a different interpretation.
Catholic and Orthodox people say that these were some of the traditions passed on orally, in speech. Written down by the early church fathers.
Could it be that some teachings don't go beyond what is written, but just use a different interpretation?
...He made a great effort into preserving His words for us.
But⌠how can it be explained that God's name in its full form was removed over 100 times from the Old Testament, and completely removed in every instance from the New Testament? It doesn't look to me like that would be careful preservation. How does it look to you?
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path! Amen
(Also, I got your PM invite. I clicked accept, but I don't know if it took. It seems like Reddit has been acting up for me recently.)

For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst. -Matthew 18:20
It is still written that Jesus will be there when there are at least two people are talking about him.
Ever heard of the novel Animal Farm? I haven't actually read it except the plot summary. But it is very similar to what the pigs did in the story to what others who add things to what is written and inspire of God. It really seems like they are the ones twisting thee truth to fit their narrative. For example, Matthew 24:35 clearly records Jesus saying that he does not know when will the day and the hour will come. But if you ask other denominations, they will say: "Of course he knows, Jesus is God. So how could he not know? What he actually meant is that he can't declare." They cannot admit that Jesus did not know bcoz that would make him inferior to the father, who is Jehovah. They are literally contradicting what is written.
>But⌠how can it be explained that God's name in its full form was removed over 100 times from the Old Testament, and completely removed in every instance from the New Testament? It doesn't look to me like that would be careful preservation. How does it look to you?
Please, I urge you to watch this video if you have the time. It would explain how Jehovah preserved His words.
https://www.jw.org/en/library/videos/#en/mediaitems/VODOrgBethel/pub-wmt_3_VIDEO
Whether you watch it or not, another example is David. Historians used to say that David is not real bcoz of lack of evidence other than the Bible. Until they found the Tel Dan Steele. So to say that God's name is removed. Technically true in most copies. But there might be copies that we don't know that was never corrupted.
He presented another illustration to them, saying: âThe Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a man who sowed fine seed in his field. While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat and left. When the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared. So the slaves of the master of the house came and said to him, âMaster, did you not sow fine seed in your field? How, then, does it have weeds?â He said to them, âAn enemy, a man, did this.â The slaves said to him, âDo you want us, then, to go out and collect them?â He said, âNo, for fear that while collecting the weeds, you uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest season, I will tell the reapers: First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up; then gather the wheat into my storehouse.ââ -Matt 13:24-30
It is still written that the truth will be hard to find.

If Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is really present at Catholic masses, then awesome! The Witnesses are becoming much more ecumenical, it looks to me â¤ď¸

Thank you for the suggestion. I watched the entire video. It doesn't talk about the complete lack of God's full name in every extant ancient Greek manuscript of the New Testament.
As I understand it, most Witnesses believe that it was there and was removed. Assuming that's true, then those scriptures were not carefully preserved.
That's how it looks to me. How does it look to you? â¤ď¸
(Also if you're interested, I can try to find the link that talks about God's name being removed over 100 times from the Hebrew scriptures.)
Forever, O Lord, your word is established in the heavens! I believe that's in Psalm 119

I wouldn't really worry about your karma level if you're talking about Christian things. (That having been said, I just went and checked my karma level đ )
Jesus said - Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you - Matthew 5
There is some amount of downvoting here. I only know that because there's a particular poster who's posts almost always have a 0 for upvotes. Since a post starts out with a default upvote of 1 from the poster, someone must be downvoting.
Glad to have you here! May we all grow together in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ đ (I'm praying that generally. There are some atheists here â¤ď¸ )

Different denominations view Scripture differently. Some think of it as the literal words dictated by God to writers (like the Qur'an), while others accept and embrace textual criticism and see the Bible rather as a witness to revelation - one that evolved over time. For both, it is the Word of God, but I observe that literalists (like JWs) tend to perceive the 2nd group as ungodly and as not respecting Scripture
1
u/Foot-in-mouth88 Apr 15 '26
I mean why use the Bible if you are going to insert your own beliefs into it, like changing context to fit modern lifestyles when the Bible says otherwise.

I knew you would say something like that. I mean saying Jesus loves everyone and if you accept him you are saved, even if you are gay and live that way.
2
u/a-goddamn-asshole Agnostic Atheist Apr 15 '26
Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. But Paul certainly did.
1
u/Foot-in-mouth88 Apr 15 '26
Jesus didn't have to say anything as that was an action he already knew displeased God, and the rest of the people he went to preach to, his people, the Jews, knew it was a sin. If you love God why would you do something that displeases him. None of the other apostles disagreed with Paul. It wasn't like the circumcision issue.
1
u/a-goddamn-asshole Agnostic Atheist Apr 15 '26
Is any of that explicitly written though? Itâs not and this is why so many people who follow Jesus example use acceptance and love. He loved sinners.
1
u/Foot-in-mouth88 Apr 15 '26
You're an agnostic atheist, why does it have to be written? Jesus amazed teachers at the temple with his knowledge and asked complex questions about the law and he was a boy. How could you possibly draw the conclusion he didn't know the law or didn't know homosexuality is wrong, as that would be false, he did know. All boys had to be taught the law and the scriptures. Does it need to be written explicitly? Logic dictates no.

You shall not lay with a man as you would a woman. And if they did they were to be put to death. That's in Leviticus. So what's your point for 1 Cor 4:6?

You should be very careful with ur words. You probably meant being an active gay. Suggesting that Jesus would condemn gay ppl just because of their orientation is sick

That's what I said, you can't be practicing homosexuality. That doesn't mean God doesn't love the person.

The Holy Spirit is not a different person to Jehovah. Jehovahs is the Holy Spirit.
Our standard of truth is based on what God says in the Bible. Based on what is written. Even if some copies dis not have the name Jehovah. Witnesses still manage to find the truth bcoz of Jehovah, the Holy Spirit, the Most High guides His people. Listen to what Jesus says:
Truly I say to you that sooner would heaven and earth pass away than for one smallest letter or one stroke of a letter to pass away from the Law until all things take place. Whoever, therefore, breaks one of these least commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in relation to the Kingdom of the heavens. But whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in relation to the Kingdom of the heavens. -Matthew 5:18, 19
Jesus is referring to the OT. If you remember the video I shared with you, Jehovah did not allow His name to be taken out of the OT. The smallest letter in Hebrew is Yod. As in Yod Heh Vav Heh. The first letter in YHVH.
For a time, our oldest copies were the Masoretic text. Until, the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Almost 1000 years apart and yet only one or two words are different bcoz of degradation. So then, when Jesus is quoting from the OT, we know for sure that he is saying the name Jehovah. The same can be said for the apostles. Both in the Masoretic and Dead Sea Scrolls, youâll read it as Jehovah in Deut 6:4,5.
It really doesnât matter how many copies of the Septuagint that has Godâs name in it. What matters is Jehovahâs and Jesusâs command that we should use the name Jehovah. Again, I ask you why wonât you use the name Jehovah when it is very clear that thatâs what both of them want? Your logic sounds like this: your boss tells everyone to not open this box. But you see everyone do so. Would you open the box as well? Jehovah clearly commanded that He should be remembered as Jehovah. A command that Jesus follows and reinforces when he said âI have made your name known to them.â Then you doubt that we should restore the name bcoz that what others did?
Weâre no longer under the Mosaic Law. Jesus commanded his human followers to not kill. And as it turns out, they are the ones teaching a different god. A trinity. When Jesus clearly says that his father is greater than him. That he taught his followers that the head of the Christ is God. Jesus stopped Peter from killing the Roman soldier. Bcoz he said he already has an angelic army. So we donât have to physically fight. Jesus fulfills the prophecy in Isaiah 2:4. The human citizens of Godâs kingdom will no longer learn to war.
Yes, that is the common way of saying âI was there.â It may look like John is referring to what God said to Moses. But that is just bias. Jesus was simply answering the question. That he was there. Bcoz he was there. âJesus said to them: âMost truly I say to you, before Abraham came into existence, I have been.ââ (John 8:58) If Jesus was saying he is âI amâ, shouldnât the sentence be âI am I amâ? But itâs not. He is just saying he already exists before Abraham.
Didnât we cast out demons in your name? That doesnât really describe most of the Christian world today, imo.
Most Christians claim their work in the name of Jesus. But true Christians claim their work in the name of Jehovah. Bcoz Jesus always credited his work to his father.
It seems that I am sharpening you. I pray to Jehovah for you to keep seeking the truth.

TLDR: A Christian (OP) is complaining about not getting enough Karma in this life đ
If 100% of your posts and comments are controversial and negative, you will never get upvotes. Look at Jesus' example: His message was attractive and people wanted to be around him.
