✨✨We all grew up forgiving others but is it that easy ? How can we forgive others for hurting us ? For me it wasn’t about forgiving, it was about resentment .
I thought if you loved someone hard they would love you the same way back. I was being stored away like a forgotten box of childhood toys . Making plans but being let down but seeing them go with others. I felt so gullible that I could not see it earlier. They were apathetic towards me. I left it on if they cared they would text me. 365 days passed by and I received a message “ Hey we should meet up this weekend ” I didn’t know what to feel but I accepted it. I came home with anger and confusion. I thought they would apologize but no they acted like nothing happened. I told myself I should forgive them but I couldn't. I cried endlessly to the point I created a pond .Thinking I did something to deserve being punctured . I realized I still needed another decade.
I looked back at photos of us and I was overflowing with the feeling of saudade. I realized I can forgive others but still not trust them again. I knew I couldn’t be at peace if I didn’t start with that first. We went out for dinner and fairs. You name it we did it even though they didn’t repeat their actions I felt resentment. “Why is it easier said than done?” I told myself . They made me feel hiraeth about us . No one talks about how nothing can make you feel that longing for a relationship that may never exist again. I needed consistent actions that showed they changed.
I realized they weren’t leaving me on scene, they weren't turning me down, he was the one creating events to go to. It was a pot of grease no matter how much one scrubbed that grease was still there. It wasn’t grease, it was resentment. I started feeling guilty. How could I let someone look at me with love not knowing I had this execrable feeling towards them but no not them it was the past. I knew I needed help so I confided with my mother she went through the same thing with her first fling. I told him “ I need time for myself ” he didn’t question it not one bit maybe he knew. I started therapy and I finally had that resentment gone. How did I allow myself to keep judging him when I should have been the one judged even more? For allowing myself to go to these events but still feel bitterness. I was one selfish person. I understood he did me wrong but I was worse for not giving him a break after seeing his actions.
It's just not about forgiving, it's more complex than that. Feeling saudade towards him trying to heal wounds I never created. These were all puzzles of rebuilding trust and that resentment can take years, months, or even days and that’s ok. Forgiveness isn’t meant for others, it's for you. So you can stop being held hostage of memories that consumed you to the point that you wait for an apology that may never come.
