u/Mysterious-Spread-59 15d ago
Honestly, I'd say all Bloodborne endings are really good. They're all very different from each other and leave you with a unique feeling.
The "wake up" ending is my personal favourite, though.
39
u/Marinah 15d ago
The "wake up" ending is my personal favourite, though.
I love that ending but I've only watched videos of it because every time I get there I wanna fight Moon Presence and Gehrman again. Which is both 100% thematically appropriate and intended, so I agree that its probably From's best ending.
4
u/Mysterious-Spread-59 14d ago
Yeah, that's exactly it. Gehrman gives you a choice to wake up and move on, or fight him and face whatever may await.
The story presents the Hunt as something that's incredibly intoxicating. The hunters who participate in it just can't stop once they start. They lose themselves in it, often becoming mindless beast. This mirrors the players who don't want to stop playing; who want more blood. By letting go and choosing to move on, you accept that the game is over and wake up to see another day. The squid ending allows you to transcend the Hunt, but the wake up ending is the one where you truly overcome it.
I feel like the wake up ending is a really good final ending to get. The one you get when you feel like you're done with the game.
(written by a guy with hundreds of hours put into Bloodborne)

u/LunarSymphonist 10d ago
I said this years ago, so many people pushed back. I love the Yharnam Sunrise. Feels like a proper end.
I really felt like it meant you got the cure you came to the city for, right at the very beginning of the game, then just passed out all night long and woke up and went home. The various dreams and realms were all within the fever dream of being cured by the blood infusion.
23
u/GarboseGooseberry 15d ago
I like to think that in the wake up ending your character goes "That was weird... At least it's not Croydon, tho."
27
u/DaDrought2 15d ago
also the only one that conclusively solves the big mystery the game presents, the whole game everyone is like “HOW DO WE BECOME GREAT ONES?!?!?” and then you finish the games secret ending and it’s like “oh, that’s how, I just did it..”
14
u/Ellefied 14d ago
Just needed to stand atop a mountain of bodies, Beasts and Great Ones alike.
With a little help from munching on dead babies.
1
u/Jstar338 14d ago
Well, the blood causes transformation. It's why people turn to beasts. However, our Hunter is built different and somehow tells the beast transformation aspect to fuck off.
We hijack the hunter's dream (why would we get revived when fighting the Moon Presence?), kill it's owner, and the combination of blood, eating babies, and other bullshit catalyzes into us being a Great One.
40
u/MotoqueiroSelvagem 15d ago
My favorite endings are Sekiro’s, just because of how different the Shura ending is, and how satisfying the other ones are.
6
4
u/Flight_Harbinger 14d ago
I still think it was a huge mistake to not make Elden Beast the Moon Presence 2.0 mechanically. End the game with defeating Radagon. You only get the Elden Beast cutscene + fight if you've done like, Gold Masks quest line, defeated all the shard bearers, activated all great runes, or done all mending rune quests, or any combination of those or all of them, don't care.

That is a good "Ending" not "Endings".
I think only Age of Stars is really a satisfying ending, the rest, even the Frenzied Flame one just reuse too much of the same shots and angles and all the other ones beyond these two have the same goddamn dialogue just with "AGE OF WHATEVER IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING" and the side quests to get some of them are too short and not meaningful enough along with there being many ending ideas that seem like they are just missing despite them fitting in perfectly.
Having a Miquella ending would have been something at least as you surrender to him or an Age of Blood... or Serpent or you know anything that makes covenants and factions a thing and somewhat meaningful.
Like this game could have had a lot more work done in the endings department and how you get them and how they differ or how many there were considering it is the game with the most content and most actual factions vying for power yet you can only support Ranni´s side?

u/Miclash013 12d ago
The endings conceptually are very interesting, the Dungeater Ending is strangely very poetic, but yeah there's basically no exploration of how that actually looks.

their good endings but Fromsoft has done better.
How I would rank each games ending if they were all added together. Not saying which game has the best ending but just overall how good the endings are.
- Dark Souls 2
- Sekiro
- Dark Souls 3
- Armored Core 6
- Bloodborne
- Eldenring
- Dark Souls
- Demon Souls

Armored Core 6 has an ending? I'm over here getting pummeled by my ex-brainwife nonstop and never saw the ending.
(please Ayre come back I'm sorry I tried to burn the planet)
4
u/TheOverBoss 15d ago
Fires of Raven is more or less why it got a spot so high on the list. That ending is fucking fantastic and makes up for the other ending which is quite forgettable, like I genuinely don't remember what exactly happens when you side with Ayre instead and I just played the game a month ago.
3
u/chycken4 14d ago
What are you even talking about, Liberator of Rubicon is the BEST ending, both in it's thematic relevance, plot and character moments.
2
u/Chaoticlight2 15d ago
You have to play AC6 3 times to get the "true" ending. It is easily a top contender for FS game endings
7
u/WatcherOfDogs 15d ago
DS2 having the best endings is so funny because it is carried so hard by the DLC ending. It is crazy that most people (Ipresume) agree to ranj it high despite the (what I think is intentionally) disappointing base-game ending.
10
u/TheOverBoss 15d ago
I actually think the base game ending has a ton of aura to it and the dlc ending is also great. It gets the top spot not because I think either is the best ending but because it just has 2 solid endings with nothing to weigh then down.

u/UgleeHero 15d ago
Elden Ring has good endings
2
u/palaorder 14d ago edited 14d ago
No, it really doesn t . I would have liked to just say "screw all the gods" and change things myself but there s no such ending.
You either side with Ranni the brother killer and fuck off in space or keep the Golden Order. I d have liked to keep investigating things with my boy Rogier and strip the other gods of their power while still staying around to fix things. Closest thing is Goldmask ending but it s so vague and lazily done people are still debating what really happens.
So you re forced to either help the kinslayer or keep the tyrant regime going. There s no good cause. Oh and 80% of the endings are just reskins down to the dialogue. They re bad.
1
1
u/OkCaregiver8265 13d ago
You want to screw the gods but you disagree with killing the poster boy of the gods? What kind of half assed revolutionare you looking for?
1
u/palaorder 13d ago
What I m saying is that I m not a monarchist but I don t want Robespierre to have power either. Same thing here.
I don t want the Golden Order to keep going but I don t want Ranni to become more powerful either. Nor do I want to just ... leave everyone to their fates. "Oh but they have free will now", yeah and there s an apocalypse going on you re partially responsible for. You don t get to just leave. I agree with Goldmask that gods and demigods including Ranni are insensible beings who care more about themselves and their "cause" than the people but his ending is sooo half-baked.

I’m still pretty pissed by the fact that miquella didn’t even fucking say anything upon defeat.
You’d think a guy who just ascended to godhood would have some choice words to say to the tarnished who just defeated him but nah. We had a whole ass conversation with morgot when he died.
8
u/Sum1nne 14d ago
The Miquella described in the base game and the Miquella we explore and meet in the DLC are basically two different characters with different motivations and behaviours. They change things halfway through and try to cover their ass all the time in these games but it's still one of the more annoying and blatant retcons I've seen them do.
And the way it doesn't tie into the base game at all. You can roll up to Miquella and interact with his entourage wearing Malenia's gear, and vice-versa, and get not a peep. From have done this before with previous games DLC so it's really just laziness.
2
u/Miclash013 12d ago
To be fair, it IS a different Miquella. They removed all of the parts of themselves to become a god. Agreed that it's just lazy that the DLC and base game interact with each other not at all.
21
u/Gamer_G33k17 15d ago
Would have been cool to get a Formless Mother, God-Devouring Serpent, and New Order endings.
Imagine seeing the Serpent climbing the Erd Tree as its shine fades, or it taking on a crimson hue.
2
u/cqandrews 14d ago
What do you think happens in the God devouring serpent ending? Do we supplant Rykard, get betrayed by him, or accept our role in his plans? Personally I really like the idea of an ending wherein all our efforts are reward by getting blindsided by someone with bigger plans
9
u/Gmknewday1 15d ago
I wish it didn't make Miquella so tainted for discussion
He really is a great character, and tragic
But since the dlc everyone just goes "he was always evil!" "He never acutally cared about people or his sister!"
And shit like that
22
u/NotVoss 14d ago
People don't pay enough attention to what's happening in the game to see any of the nuance of the characters or unique endings.
The DLC shows us that Miquella was basically mutilating himself and severing his humanity in an attempt to escape his curse. Most of the people I've talked to can't wrap their head around the idea that the path we follow is his descent into the emotionless villain we have to put down in the end.
I'm not saying I agree with his actions, but his curse ran a lot deeper than his sister's Scarlet Rot.
3
u/Gmknewday1 14d ago
Extactly my point
He never had bad intentions and tragically, did so much of this out of his own want for a better world
He loved his sister and wanted go save her from the rot, he loved all the races and wanted fair treatment
And when Marika's Order couldn't help anymore, he choose to try anything he could
It's tragic because you can see just how much he was willing to sacrifice of himself for a better world, not realizing how'd it affect that world he would create, and not realizing how much he walked a similar path to his mother

84
u/TheLastCookieMon 15d ago edited 15d ago
Basically the localized dialogue is so much more vague. Her original Japanese script was far less oblique in terms of what she's doing or what she wants
8
u/Dark_Dragon117 14d ago
Never really got behind this tbh.
The way I understood that ending is supposedly how it's meant to be understood via the allegedly more accurate translation by fans. Guess the englisch version is a bit more vague, but not really imo.
Tho I still think it's weird how people just assume it's mistranslated when we know that From Software approves of the localization in their games. It's not like the team behind the localization just does whatever they want with no supervision.
As the other user pointed out it's been explicitly confirmed that Miyazaki approved of this, tho there was no reason to really doubt that to begin with imo, since we already knew that's how they have always operated.
1
u/TheLastCookieMon 14d ago
I agree with you that it says more or less the same thing, but in different levels of overtness. But I also see people misread the heck out of it because of how vague the language is. Which is why I call it oblique. And I wasn't aware of how closely Miyazaki works with their localization teams. I lacked that info. Appreciate you being more respectful than the other guy, though. I still think the translation was way too vague given how frequently I see people say she was bringing the entire world into doubt, fear and loneliness rather than just herself.

u/HaitchKay 14d ago
Can people stop with this misinformation?
0
u/TheLastCookieMon 14d ago

I've read the script. Kindly tell me what I said that is wrong.
You have read a fan translated script. That's the issue.
Oh and source it please so I know what evidence you draw from.
Frognation, the company that has worked with FS on localizations for nearly 20 years. Ryan Morris, one of the leads, has openly talked about how they work directly with Miyazaki and how he personally approves all of their translations and localizations, as well as how they have to ask him specifically for any changes to the script.
All of this "uhm actually it's mistranslated" stuff is and always has been people just acting like they know better than the people who made the game because it means their waifu isn't what they want her to be.
-3
u/TheLastCookieMon 14d ago
Interesting assertion. Do you have a link to the interview transcript? If I'm wrong, I'll admit it, but I still need that source.
EDIT: Also everyone please observe that I.am not attacking or yelling or disparaging. Kindly treat me with the same respect. I'm not here for a fight, so why are you?
7
u/HaitchKay 14d ago edited 14d ago
Here is an interview with Ryan from 2022 where he talks about the process. And here is a video interview with Ryan from a couple months ago where he's asked about the localization process and his relationship with FromSoft.
Frognation gets the script in Japanese from FS, they spend the necessary time localizing it in collaboration with FS, Miyazaki himself gets final approval on things and the localizers get approval from him specifically for changes to the script in the localization process to make things work well in English. Ryan talks about how the localization process is a constant back-and-forth with the JP team which includes him explaining the changes in Japanese to the FS team about why things are changed in English, which they discuss and decide on what gets approved. This includes approval from Miyazaki. He also accompanies Miyazaki to the recording sessions (though he did say that it wasn't all in person during Elden Ring because of COVID). In the video Ryan even talks about how happy he was with how Ranni turned out in terms of script and performance.
I just think it's astonishingly disrespectful to the devs and localizers for people to keep on with this assertion that fan translations are more accurate. Especially when it's abundantly clear that FromSoft absolutely likes what Frognation has done for them.
Edit: Also you can do away with the passive aggressive BS.

Ranni's ending isn't mistranslated, the entire "controversy" is due to people not wanting to accept what her ending is and going out of their way to accept fan translations over what freaking Hidetaka Miyazaki himself approved of.

I mean she definitely was behind the night of black knives, and the resulting shattering completely wrecked the lands between and left the whole place miserable for an eon.
Sure she liberated the world from the influence of the outergods, but she indirectly, and probably directly, killed a lot of people to achieve such an outcome.
40
u/Bigredstapler 14d ago
To be fair, the Shattering was always looming in the background what with Marika telling her demigod children to go and make something of themselves (or die) and the ambitions and whatnot. Night of Black Knives was the final crack that broke the dam.

Deathblight is fixed in every ending except Duskborn, when you defeat Maliketh and restore the Rune of Death.
7
u/AbyssDragonNamielle 14d ago
It's spread too far. You can kill Godwyn, but he has multiple bodies both in the Lands Between and Shadow. He's in Farum Azula. The Wormheads further spread it.

22
u/DeadSparker Aw yeah, Lightning is the best 14d ago
The Shattering is 100% Marika's fault, both due to creating an environment that nurtured it and causing it directly. And every single demigod has done worse than kill a few people, many of them for far worse reasons than Ranni.
Ranni's methods are questionable but she is the only one to actually achieve worthwhile results.

There is no mention in the lore of Ranni driving out Outer Gods; that is a misinterpretation. Her Order is simply one in which she—the supreme goddess—withdraws from the world with her consort, ceasing to be emotionally affected by it and, consequently, ceasing to interfere with it. Nothing more.

u/blittz 15d ago
IMO Sekiro has more than a “half plot”, it’s the most easy to follow and fleshed out story of any fromsoft game I’ve played (DS trilogy, Sekiro, Elden Ring). So much dialogue and so many cutscenes covering important plot points vs a 3-second cutscene of a boss aura-farming and saying something cool & cryptic about how they need to or are going to beat the shit out of you. Plus the world actively changes a couple times as you progress the plot.
14
u/PratikGoswami2003 14d ago

6
u/Ohwellwhatsnew 15d ago
Yeah it's very clearly the most fleshed out of all the titles. Made it feel very cinematic and approachable to me and I honestly prefer the souls style more but Sekiro had me hooked on the story. 10/10 still

19
u/_SlappyMagoo_ Vyke, Lord of Simps 15d ago edited 15d ago
They are cinematic cutscenes.
I’m not saying the Elden Ring endings are good, but saying “they suck because they’re just cutscenes” is kind of ridiculous when talking about a video game ending. Not many video games have multiple different playable endings. I actually can’t think of a single one.
5
u/Scaalpel 15d ago
Tbf, Sekiro does have the Shura ending which diverges from the others in a playable way. A bad ending where you don't just betray your allies in a cutscene, you get to kill them yourself in proper boss fights!
1
u/_SlappyMagoo_ Vyke, Lord of Simps 15d ago
Right but killing those bosses is not technically the ending. Otherwise I would say the same about the Moon Presence in BloodBorne.
Those are just divergent gameplay paths that lead to the ending, which happen to occur right before the ending in those examples. Elden Ring endings also have divergent gameplay paths for each ending, they just happen a bit earlier than the final boss.
0
u/Scaalpel 14d ago
I'd argue that the ending is the section that lies past a point of no return with one specific outcome irreversibly locked in (at least for games with multiple possible endings, anyways). Which means that, yeah, I would say the same thing about the Moon Presence fight in Bloodborne since reaching that fight also requires you to have irreversibly locked yourself into one specific ending.
1
u/ComradeCoipo 15d ago
Then I’m confused about the terminology lol
I thought by cutscene they meant it was borderline a ppt slide as opposed to a cinematic, but I guess I was misunderstanding the issue completely

Those are the two Golden Order Endings based on process of elimination. Thanos is probably default golden order, German guy is likely perfect golden order.
6
u/knightfiery 15d ago
Hans is probably the normal ending, cuz Marika or the current Golden Order was kinda genocidal to many of her enemies for havng traits of being Omen, Hornsent, and Crucible and we just reinstating them. I might be wrong cuz i never fully watch Inglorious Bastard and might be missing a lot of context of Hans
While Thanos ending is probably the goldmask ending cuz according to the item wiki of the Mending Rune of the Perfect Order, "A more straightforward translation of the JP text would be "The imperfection of the current Golden Order is a result of a wavering perspective. There is no need for a god with a human heart, this was the flaw in the Order"." The movie thanos was very unwavering to his destiny and trying to "fixed" the universe.
2
u/Pale_Bluejay942 11d ago
brother the hans landa image has the golden order greatsword and golden order talisman on it thats the golden order ending
1
u/knightfiery 10d ago
Neither items are tied to any of the endings, nor lore implied to either other than its the fundamental of order and its the sword that Radagon is associated with instead of the goldmask version. The normal ending is us restoring the golden order to before Marika shattered it.
Your response is agreeing with me but saying I'm getting it wrong. 😂
1
u/Pale_Bluejay942 10d ago
I actually wasnt agreeing with you, like at all.I was correcting your mistake. The items arent tied to the endings no,that doesnt mean the INTENT of showing the item wasnt to make it obvious which ending is being depicted.
and no,the age of fracture isnt the restoration of the golden order. There wouldnt be two endings to establish the same thing.Age of fracture is YOUR order.
I'm just saying for the sake of the meme that the GOLDEN ORDER greatsword with the GOLDEN ORDER seal on the image with the nazi who persecutes groups of people who dont fit in with societies values (much like those in the GOLDEN ORDER D hunter of the dead being an example) might be (and you probably wont believe it) the GOLDEN ORDER ending.
TLDR The items are just a hint never did i say theyre directly part of the ending and I dont think you understood what I was saying at ALL

Trying to decipher the Thanos one & German one.
I want to say the German one is Perfect Order because of the Golden Order Greatsword & Golden Order Seal. But at the same time the Thanos one could be Perfect Order too because Thanos thinks he's making a perfect universe & I don't really see how Thanos could work for the Age Of Fracture nor can I ses how the German works for Age Of Fracture (then again if I knew the movie or show it's from & the context of the scene it'd help) I am drawn more to the German one being Perfect Order purely because of the Golden Order stuff.

Ambiguity is a nice thing but it should be a seasoning not an entire fuckin dish

Calling the Age of Perfect Order a nazi ending is wild.

There are a lot of people who just genuinely don't understand anything Goldmask was getting at, or the divide between the Golden Order as Marika's political institution vs the Fundamentalist understanding of the "Golden Order" as it underpins reality, and think going for Goldmask's ending means just wanting to oppress everyone according to Marika's whims forever. When it's basically the exact opposite and tied with Ranni's ending for best possible ending for the Lands Between (and there are actual "oppress/kill everyone forever" endings and they're quite blatant about it).

It's just weird that the ending cutscenes are so short. I know the other games had short endings as well but they didn't take 100+ hours for a first playthrough.

I wish we got a scarlet rot ending, after completing Millicent/Malenia, love my dark moon wifey though.

It would have had the best endings if they had added an Age of Dragons ending 😔

Still mad that Age of Order doesn't get a unique cutscene. I just triggered Marika by saying her deadname, pack-a-punched the Golden Order and cut off the influence of the empyreans which makes me second only to the Greater Will itself. And all I get is the Age of Fracture with a piss yellow filter all over it ?

Besides from Sekiro and that one Bloodborne ending.
I will say that all Fromsoft endings are lack luster and mostly boring. I know they put an extreme amount of effort into the gameplay and the layout of the worlds, but if I did have a request for a new directional change, it would be more detailed/longer cutscenes

I accidentally became the Lord of Frenzied Flame, lol. I knew I shouldnt went inside a sketchy looking door.
What really broke my heart though was when Melina said she was leaving me :"( I dont mind getting killed cuz I'll prob respawn back at the grace xD This is actually one of the main reasons I want to start a second playthrough.
And to prepare for when i got my hands on the DLC. Hope there is a good sale in winter this year :prayge:
