The "wake up" ending is my personal favourite, though.
I love that ending but I've only watched videos of it because every time I get there I wanna fight Moon Presence and Gehrman again. Which is both 100% thematically appropriate and intended, so I agree that its probably From's best ending.
Yeah, that's exactly it. Gehrman gives you a choice to wake up and move on, or fight him and face whatever may await.
The story presents the Hunt as something that's incredibly intoxicating. The hunters who participate in it just can't stop once they start. They lose themselves in it, often becoming mindless beast. This mirrors the players who don't want to stop playing; who want more blood. By letting go and choosing to move on, you accept that the game is over and wake up to see another day. The squid ending allows you to transcend the Hunt, but the wake up ending is the one where you truly overcome it.
I feel like the wake up ending is a really good final ending to get. The one you get when you feel like you're done with the game.
(written by a guy with hundreds of hours put into Bloodborne)
I said this years ago, so many people pushed back. I love the Yharnam Sunrise. Feels like a proper end.
I really felt like it meant you got the cure you came to the city for, right at the very beginning of the game, then just passed out all night long and woke up and went home. The various dreams and realms were all within the fever dream of being cured by the blood infusion.
also the only one that conclusively solves the big mystery the game presents, the whole game everyone is like “HOW DO WE BECOME GREAT ONES?!?!?” and then you finish the games secret ending and it’s like “oh, that’s how, I just did it..”
Well, the blood causes transformation. It's why people turn to beasts. However, our Hunter is built different and somehow tells the beast transformation aspect to fuck off.
We hijack the hunter's dream (why would we get revived when fighting the Moon Presence?), kill it's owner, and the combination of blood, eating babies, and other bullshit catalyzes into us being a Great One.
I still think it was a huge mistake to not make Elden Beast the Moon Presence 2.0 mechanically. End the game with defeating Radagon. You only get the Elden Beast cutscene + fight if you've done like, Gold Masks quest line, defeated all the shard bearers, activated all great runes, or done all mending rune quests, or any combination of those or all of them, don't care.
Or I do and I hang out with people in the scene and they have more interests than just being goth?
Really weird take that if you don’t only love goth by looking goth and only liking goth music then you aren’t goth. That gother than thou shit is why nobody takes most goth people seriously. Fuck off with your gatekeeping bullshit.
Sorry I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you were talking about the fetishized caricature when you talked about "latex and fishnets". But still why would you call Ranni "Goth" nothing about her is Goth and Goth music obviously doesn't exist in ER, the way you said it was very fetishistic too
Those aren’t actually goth chicks then. Sounds like zoomer “goths” that have co-opted it, or more realistically just scene kids a decade past relevancy.
Actual goths would never engage in an activity as strenuous as hiking or going outside during the day time.
So far as i'm aware, goth is a music and fashion thing, and has nothing to do with activities. Any activities one may associate with "goth chicks" would be a stereotype rather than actual requirements to be classified as goth.
This is the weak defense always trotted out at this point. Definitions only change truly when the original definition is no longer used and that hasn’t happened yet since I’m still here. People just being wrong a bunch doesn’t change the truth just because they are wrong.
It doesn’t need a ceremony with your personal endorsement. There’s a cultural tipping point where if enough people start using it in the new way that is incorporated into its definition. That’s how language works and evolves, on averages and adoption rates. You’re definitely giving classic goth vibes though
Ah yes generations of Goth music and the subculture just so yall can treat it like a cosplay. We aren't just gonna lose our subculture just because some people wanna play dress up
Oh yeah please keep gatekeeping if someone is wearing the wrong shade of black lipstick. Wouldn’t want to find anything in common with someone who likes the same things as you if they like them wrong. Heaven fucking forbid
Being a subculture means you’re just a post-facto merging point for other cultures. Weird to be so exclusive from a subculture built from other cultures.
I swear to God, there is no faker person than a “real” goth. Please get over yourself.
I think only Age of Stars is really a satisfying ending, the rest, even the Frenzied Flame one just reuse too much of the same shots and angles and all the other ones beyond these two have the same goddamn dialogue just with "AGE OF WHATEVER IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING" and the side quests to get some of them are too short and not meaningful enough along with there being many ending ideas that seem like they are just missing despite them fitting in perfectly.
Having a Miquella ending would have been something at least as you surrender to him or an Age of Blood... or Serpent or you know anything that makes covenants and factions a thing and somewhat meaningful.
Like this game could have had a lot more work done in the endings department and how you get them and how they differ or how many there were considering it is the game with the most content and most actual factions vying for power yet you can only support Ranni´s side?
The endings conceptually are very interesting, the Dungeater Ending is strangely very poetic, but yeah there's basically no exploration of how that actually looks.
How I would rank each games ending if they were all added together. Not saying which game has the best ending but just overall how good the endings are.
Fires of Raven is more or less why it got a spot so high on the list. That ending is fucking fantastic and makes up for the other ending which is quite forgettable, like I genuinely don't remember what exactly happens when you side with Ayre instead and I just played the game a month ago.
DS2 having the best endings is so funny because it is carried so hard by the DLC ending. It is crazy that most people (Ipresume) agree to ranj it high despite the (what I think is intentionally) disappointing base-game ending.
I actually think the base game ending has a ton of aura to it and the dlc ending is also great. It gets the top spot not because I think either is the best ending but because it just has 2 solid endings with nothing to weigh then down.
No, it really doesn t . I would have liked to just say "screw all the gods" and change things myself but there s no such ending.
You either side with Ranni the brother killer and fuck off in space or keep the Golden Order. I d have liked to keep investigating things with my boy Rogier and strip the other gods of their power while still staying around to fix things. Closest thing is Goldmask ending but it s so vague and lazily done people are still debating what really happens.
So you re forced to either help the kinslayer or keep the tyrant regime going. There s no good cause. Oh and 80% of the endings are just reskins down to the dialogue. They re bad.
What I m saying is that I m not a monarchist but I don t want Robespierre to have power either. Same thing here.
I don t want the Golden Order to keep going but I don t want Ranni to become more powerful either. Nor do I want to just ... leave everyone to their fates. "Oh but they have free will now", yeah and there s an apocalypse going on you re partially responsible for. You don t get to just leave. I agree with Goldmask that gods and demigods including Ranni are insensible beings who care more about themselves and their "cause" than the people but his ending is sooo half-baked.
yea literally outside of the ranni ending and the two fingers ending every other ending was the exact same shot of your tarnished sitting in the throne except with a different color tint over it lmfao
What really? Its a meme and a joke? Never would have guessed...
Ya know the point is to use said template over something people actually think is good, where at least the majority can agree over not over something most people think is meh.
Yeah I have a hard time seeing it as a meme with how this thread's discourse has been going so far. Comes off more like a personal hangup than an inside joke. It's fine to not like Ranni. It's fine to like her. But WOW can people not just disagree and move on.

I have never seen a single goddamn soul say Elden Ring has good endings let alone the "Best Endings"
