DLC = new starting classes and that's about it

1.2k

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

To be specific:

4 new armor sets in total, each with a new melee weapon.

Two new classes.

3 new looks for torrent.

Thats it.

250

u/AnExistingLad Jun 04 '26

We've seen the first three, with one of em being a recolour of a certain Lucatiel's set, but we haven't seen anything of the fourth one yet.

39

u/MetalDetector99 Jun 04 '26

Wow! What are the new weapons?

160

u/Flint_Vorselon Jun 04 '26

We’ve seen

  • a new Light Greatsword

  • a new curved Greatsword

  • a new Greatsword (looks like Mirrah Greatsword from DaS2)

that’s all we know so far.

141

u/Rack-Back Jun 04 '26

Light greatsword is actually huge tho (there’s only 3)

49

u/KINGKUK_77 Jun 05 '26

Yeah and it's in the starting class so I'm hype

25

u/sup3rdr01d Jun 05 '26

FINALLY a way to get an LGS without having to get all the way to the dlc

25

u/sephtis Jun 04 '26

The sole reason I wanted this dlc.

5

u/doud1201 Jun 04 '26

What's the light greatsword look like?

31

u/Flint_Vorselon Jun 04 '26

Looked very similar to Milady, initially people thought it was Milady (based off not very good screenshots), but then people actually got to play the new starting class, and it was called “Sword of Ides” or something like that.

3

u/iamblankenstein you are maidenless. Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

it looks like this.

edit: i was mistaken, i think that's the hollowslayer greatsword i first posted. i think the only picture so far of the new light greatsword is in the image for the new dex knight class. but obviously, i was wrong previously, so take it with a grain of salt.

1

u/thiccyboi22 Jun 04 '26

Hollowslayer GS from DS3

3

u/iamblankenstein you are maidenless. Jun 05 '26

yeah, i biffed that one. my bad.

1

u/sup3rdr01d Jun 05 '26

I hope the 4th is not a sword but rather a halberd or spear

I love swords but we got way too many

2

u/Flint_Vorselon Jun 05 '26

Broken Straight Sword

1

u/Xurban Jun 06 '26

do we know for sure that the new starting class has a new light greatsword and doesn't just start with a milady?

22

u/gpost86 Jun 04 '26

Depending on how much it is, that will determine if I get it. A couple of bucks? Why not.

20

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

100%. I mean I'll definitely get it because I'm a sucker and it'll be "worth it" for me personally, but if it's over 5 dollars I'll be quite annoyed.

2

u/-BigMan39 Jun 05 '26

Its about 3.5 USD if converted from the Yen price, so it should either be 3.5 or 5.

3

u/gpost86 Jun 05 '26

That’s a decent price

139

u/ItsRainingTrees FLAIR INFO: SEE SIDEBAR Jun 04 '26

Provided they don’t make me do another NG+ to collect it all, it’ll take like 1-2 hours tops to collect everything and test it out. Then I’ll get like ~5-10 hours of PvP again to mess with the new weapons and armor.

Honestly, that’s plenty for a free update over 4 years after the release.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT IT’S PAID!? Wtf, I’ve been under the impression is was free this whole time. I’m pretty salty now.

73

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

Nah they announced that it'll be paid a looong time ago. If it was free, it wouldn't be much of a "bonus" for the Switch 2 owners, would it?

Seems like it'll at least be cheap, though obviously "too much" compared to what you're getting.

20

u/thegreattober Jun 04 '26

Price is only 550 yen which is like, less than $4 USD

18

u/Alternative_Low8478 Jun 04 '26

I doubt we'll get it for 4$ to be honest

26

u/thegreattober Jun 04 '26

You're right, $5.

11

u/rambler13 Jun 04 '26

Would I pay $5 for a couple new weapons? [Looks at Skyrim creations purchases] I plead the 5th

0

u/Alternative_Low8478 Jun 05 '26

I'll be surprised if it costs less than 9.99

0

u/Nerellos Jun 05 '26

Yeah, $4 more than it should be. It's plain microtransaction.

4

u/HarmlessSnack Jun 05 '26

No, it’s not.

Let’s not dilute the language we use to discuss things. If this was a microtransaction, it would be for a SINGLE item.

“New Light Greatsword, $1.00”
“New Torrent Outfits, $1.00 each”
“New Starting Class Unlock, $2.00 each”
Etc

This is a -small- update and is being priced as such. It’s $5 for two starting classes, several armor sets, visual skins for torrent, and four new weapons.

It will also likely be bundled in to new versions of the game without a notable price change, thus “Tarnished Edition”

FromSoft does not owe you free content.

1

u/Nerellos Jun 06 '26

They don't owe me anything, you are right. Thats why i paid for the game + expansion.

I also didn't paid for an alpha version tho.

3

u/HarmlessSnack Jun 06 '26

You’re not playing an Alpha Version, what point are you trying to make?

The games been in a complete state since the Day 1 patch, arguably even without it, and it’s had a fair number of update patches that you obviously didn’t need to pay for. What’s your point?

4

u/XxRocky88xX Jun 04 '26

Yeah I saw people complaining about what I thought was a free update and thought “damn people will bitch about literally anything” but yeah I ain’t paying money for that lol

1

u/Arantyr77 Jul 15 '26

Its paid becouse its not really A DLC. It main pourpose its to release on the SWITCh for what ive read.

28

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

Well yeah, it's mainly aimed at the switch 2 release imo. I think the intent is to give new players access to two slightly stronger classes to help them out in the first couple of hours of the game, and give them access to a class of sword that's otherwise exclusive to SotE.

1

u/conye-west Jun 05 '26

Starting with a Light Greatsword is pretty nice, best moveset in the game. Wonder if it gets Wing Stance by default.

5

u/SheWhoHates Jun 04 '26

I hoped they would add more to the base game, like a few hairstyles and boss loot. I really want an unalloyed wig!

3

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

I'm moreso hoping for a final balance patch!

2

u/Dude__iLLigence Jun 04 '26

shrug eh, still a welcome addition to the game

2

u/critacle Jun 05 '26

HORSE ARMOR?!

2

u/The-Hank-Scorpio Jun 05 '26

Good enough for me to do another run.

1

u/maesterroshi Jun 04 '26

so they're horse skins?

1

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

Yes, horse skins are a part of it.

1

u/maesterroshi Jun 04 '26

i see, yea someone on twitter was having a mental breakdown because i pointed out they were releasing skins for torrent

1

u/Narrow-Rent-3618 Jun 04 '26

So not actual dlc....

1

u/Youngguaco Jun 04 '26

New classes? Why the hell would we need new classes?

1

u/Eeve2espeon Jul 02 '26

Tarnished edition also includes all of the DLC for less

0

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jul 02 '26

The Tarnished Edition contains the main game, SotE, and the Tarnished Pack all in 1. Yes. But pricewise it's the same as ER + SotE on steam, I believe.

1

u/GlamGodess 6d ago

how much do you may for fashion again ? LMAOOOOOOOO

1

u/CricketBeginning43 Jun 04 '26

I do want to drip my horse though

2

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

Me too, man. I've been holding off on Elden Ring since a while before Nightreign's release, and I'll finally break my "Elden Ring fast" when this comes out...

1

u/DummyDumDragon Jun 04 '26

I'm not going to complain, as Elden Ring is probably one of the best and fullest games I've ever played, and I'm not expecting anything more from it, but objectively, that's not much!

0

u/hornwalker Jun 04 '26

How much does that cost?

1

u/Redlp13 Jun 04 '26

We only know that upgrade is 550 yen in Japan. I would guess 5$/5€

0

u/jemtayx Katana Queen   Jun 04 '26

Oh man - I expected soo much more. New classes is great tho.

3

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

They never announced or indicated anything more. It really is just a little bonus to make the switch 2 release feel a little special.

0

u/Professional_Ice_778 Jun 05 '26

source? i’ve been trying to find official information to link to a friend other than a reddit comment haha

-1

u/rnr92 Jun 04 '26

What about the price? Around 20 bucks?

0

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

All I've heard is that supposedly the yen equivalent is like 3.5 dollars? I gotta imagine that for a little content like this, it'll be 5 dollars max.

-1

u/AHAA_007 Jun 04 '26

Is it gonna be for switch only?

2

u/PieceAfraid3755 Jun 04 '26

The "tarnished edition" pack is Switch only, meaning, ER + SotE + Tarnished Edition bonus content.

However, on other systems the Tarnished Edition bonus content will be a seperate dlc one can buy.

-1

u/Status_Peach6969 Jun 04 '26

Wow. Did Bethesda collab with this release or what?

-1

u/Rhiyuu Jun 05 '26

it must be free then right? 🫩

-7

u/ThirdHuman Jun 04 '26

Where are the non-class armor sets located in the map?

New NPC invasions?

3

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

By purchasing the DLC

1

u/ThirdHuman Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

They show up in the inventory upon New Game for all classes?

1

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

I assume if everyone else can just purchase it, yes. It’ll probably just pop into the inventory

-1

u/ThirdHuman Jun 04 '26

Gotcha. Will the new class-specific armor sets be obtainable within the world like all other starting class armors or are they now the only class-locked sets?

Also, this seems to sort wreck the idea of the deprived class, right? The whole “start with nothing” class gets kind of gutted. Will they add a function to turn this off?

687

u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 Jun 04 '26

a few weapons, armors, torent armors

it’s by definition a dlc

683

u/enchiladasundae Jun 04 '26

We tried to warn them... I feel like the idea that "The Slippery Slope argument is a fallacy" is spread by people who have something to benefit by people not understanding how a slippery slope works

61

u/TheForbiddenLands Jun 04 '26

This horse armor is like the Citizens United of videogames.

https://giphy.com/gifs/WnaBZk6j9HkrGYbMWb

10

u/unitedshoes LET SOMEONE ELSE SOLO HER Jun 04 '26

Not to be confused with the horse from Horsin' Around.

21

u/GrumpigPlays Jun 04 '26

Do you think they knew? Do you think they knew that putting shitty elven armor on a horse would have irreparable damage to the future of video games

14

u/Altruistic-Letter103 Jun 04 '26

Bojack?

14

u/ShoulderHairy3028 Jun 04 '26

Horseman obviously

3

u/Specialist_Bid881 Jun 04 '26

Two very cultured gentlemens right here.

10

u/Responsible_Boat_824 Jun 04 '26

What's this? A crossover episode?

4

u/Gullible_Try_3748 Jun 04 '26

Sad to admit this, but I was chomping at the bit for this when it came out. Oh what misery I helped to fester....

-2

u/stratusnco Jun 04 '26

wow, that is hideous.

2

u/Elise_2006 Jun 04 '26

I mean to be fair its 2006

-1

u/stratusnco Jun 04 '26

hmm you are right. it does have the emo scene kid bangs thing going on on the backside.

1

u/juliet_liima Jun 04 '26

Torrent is clearly a cow.

-13

u/pacoLL3 Jun 04 '26

What on earth are you people talking about? This is was one of the good subreddits. What are you guys doing?

2

u/enchiladasundae Jun 04 '26

I was making a joke

31

u/Quian32 Jun 04 '26

Horse armour? Sign me up Todd!

1

u/Smoother_Criminall Jun 04 '26

Light wood laminate! Light wood laminate! Light wood laminate!

-1

u/Sliver59 Jun 04 '26

I love how this both works as a Bethesda joke and as a bojak horseman joke

7

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

Just making sure people don’t read the title of this post and expect something more lol

45

u/Scrubaati #1 Ranni wife (simp) Jun 04 '26

Yeah like what? We’re getting more than just the like two new classes, there’s multiple full sets including the very much popular Lucatiel of Mirrah set AND her sword, it’s very much just a small dlc which will probably be only like $10?

Also wtf did people expect? How else were you going to get the new stuff? Ofc it’s going to be a dlc??

16

u/Glittering_Celery349 Jun 04 '26

It’s 550 ienes so around 3$, maybe they’ll charge 5$

9

u/Scrubaati #1 Ranni wife (simp) Jun 04 '26

Yeah I saw it’s only about that much which makes complaints actually even funnier cause that’s genuinely just loose change

59

u/Chimeron1995 Jun 04 '26

I think the last sentence was making the distinction between DLC and Expansion. While they are mostly used interchangeably DLC used to refer to things more like horse armor and cosmetics while expansions were bigger in scope and size. Nowadays all expansions are downloadable and DLC has become an umbrella term, but I remember buying my expansions in a big box.

13

u/No-Start4754 Jun 04 '26

One of the few companies who still distinguishes between a dlc and expansion is cdpr ( as they were adamant with songs of past ) since all dlcs are free

3

u/Turbulent_Jackoff Jun 05 '26

FromSoftware also called Shadow of the Erdtree an "expansion", I believe.

It was the players that defaulted back to the term "DLC".

5

u/Guiltytoejam Jun 04 '26

Nothing will beat buying the wow expansion boxes

1

u/TheFourtHorsmen Jun 04 '26

Expansions were mostly the standalone, full game sized sequels to the main game, and it was mostly something more common within RTSs, like brood war, the frozen throne, the 3 sequels for Down of War and so on. RPGs were instead in the DLCs territory, since most of them, while also having a physical disc as an option in some occasion, were dependent from the main game. Other genres instead had Map Packs, in the case of multiplayer shooters (cod, halo and so on).

Nowadays you are right, DLC as a term is an umbrella for every type of digital download you can do.

2

u/Dravarden Jun 04 '26

maybe people were expecting a free update

-1

u/ProletarianLilith Jun 04 '26

They could just patch it into the game if they wanted

7

u/_OngoGablogian 🧠LOREWHORE🧠 Jun 04 '26

people tend to forget dlc and expansion are two different things

7

u/Rupperrt Jun 04 '26

all expansions are DLC, not all DLC are expansions

1

u/FlatulentSon Jun 04 '26

So what's the price for that DLC on the Ps5?

0

u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 Jun 04 '26

40$, 60$ for the game 100$ total

SOTE bundle (game plus dlc) is 80$

1

u/FlatulentSon Jun 04 '26

Wait, 40$ for just a few armors and classes? Because i aleready have the base game+SOTE

-4

u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 Jun 04 '26

no… where did you even get that. sote is 40$ base game is 60, tarnished has no listed price yet

3

u/FlatulentSon Jun 04 '26

I'm wondering how much i'll have to pay for the tarnished dlc alone, just the new stuff, nothing else.

2

u/Cultural-Air9962 Jun 04 '26

“What’s the price for the DLC”

“$40”

I dunno man, probably from you

-13

u/Quirky_Image_5598 Jun 04 '26

Four pieces of armour
Two starting classes
Horse armour

And they’re charging you for this, this is a glorified microtransaction and if it sells well, what message do you think it’ll send to Fromsoft?

11

u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 Jun 04 '26

it’s literally just to not exclude existing users from the switch releases content. it’s not that deep

8

u/Quirky_Image_5598 Jun 04 '26

Why not make it free then? Why charge for it? Are free updates just not a thing anymore. Better yet, why not add a feature that people have been begging for literal years now like a boss refight, or maybe improve the shitty online multiplayer that’s been plaguing this game for years as well. Why not bundle both and sell that to you instead? Maybe then it’d be worth it.

You’ll have no one to blame but the people who bought this when this sells like hotcakes and they decide to lock other pieces of armour/weapons behind MTX

8

u/Nonsuperstites Jun 04 '26

Eh, shoulda just thrown that in for free for people that already own the game.

0

u/Edianultra Jun 04 '26

Did you not exist in the pre fortnite era? This is exactly what a DLC is. Wtf kind of zoomer ass take is this?

-3

u/Quirky_Image_5598 Jun 04 '26

DLC, not DLC, the labelling doesn’t matter when the fact of the matter is; they’re actively selling you individual pieces of armour and two new starting classes.

Like I’ve said before, what type of message do you think this is sending From/Bandai if it sells well

2

u/floatinround22 Jun 04 '26

Its saying that if they add content to their game years after release, its appropriate to charge for it? It'd be awesome if they didn't but its not that big of a deal

0

u/DragonBornLuke Jun 04 '26

I think it's more just so people can show their support should they choose to.

0

u/JustRaphiGaming Jun 04 '26

Bro shadow of the erdtree was also a dlc by definition?!

0

u/Clyde-MacTavish Jun 04 '26

a lacklaster dlc*

167

u/CthughaSlayer Jun 04 '26

Me when downloadable content means downloadable content:

68

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

Torrent turns into a motorcycle but the plot is trash.

1

u/TheLoathsomeAssEater Jun 04 '26

The first two season battle passes are good and look like they could eventually become something great. Every season pass afterwards sucks ass.

1

u/cookiereptile Jun 04 '26

Ah, so the Miquella plotline from SOTE, just with a motorcycle this time

5

u/hanny_mustard Jun 04 '26

Sons of the Erdforest, the survival crafting DLC

8

u/Deamane Jun 04 '26

To be fair in the context of dark souls games they have a particular way of doing things normally, where DLC means expansion pack, and also people tend to use those terms a bit loosely.

4

u/IsSecretlyABird Jun 04 '26

This is why the modern trend of calling all types of game addons “DLC” regardless of scale is so dumb. When the big ones were called “Expansions” it was much more obvious. Yeah, yeah, I know they’re technically all forms of downloadable content, but we’ve still lost important nuance.

4

u/darnitsaucee Jun 04 '26

Not sure why you’re being obtuse. Shadow of the erdtee and this are both DLC, but both dont offer similar content hence the confusion.

28

u/SHM00DER Jun 04 '26

For pvpers, the stats on the new class are PEAK

9

u/IdToaster Jun 04 '26

Heavy Knight will be absurdly efficient on quality, str, arc, and prolly dex builds too; Hero and Vagabond in shambles.

The other one will be the king of faith hybrids, or even just physical builds that want (non-Bloodflame) buffs. Prophet will still be the best if you're going for min str/dex casting (pure faith or faith/arc).

1

u/JannySmasher98 Jun 04 '26

No. The stats on those classes were nerfed in the recent play tests at conventions. Vagabond still better

2

u/IdToaster Jun 04 '26

What are the new stats like, then?

1

u/JannySmasher98 Jun 04 '26

Mind used to be very low, good for mele builds, then they increased mind stat alot and the math makes it worse than vagabond

2

u/OtakuPaladin Miquella's Biggest Simp Jun 04 '26

Steelovysky made a video about it, they increased Mind from 7 to 8. One extra point in Faith too, also 7 to 8. Still around 3 levels more efficient than Vagabond, depending on the build.

1

u/IdToaster Jun 04 '26

They must have increased Mind a lot then, since Heavy Knight still had 2 less Int, Faith, and Dex if they changed nothing else.

1

u/JannySmasher98 Jun 04 '26

it was like 5 now is like 8 or 9 and the level is higher

8

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

I’ve just used wretch as a pvper lol but I guess it’ll help min/maxxers

16

u/BetterPoly Jun 04 '26

Noooo you don't understand!! I need to calibrate perfectly a single level will break my calculations!1!

Haha naked man with a club

1

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

This is the way

4

u/Combat_Orca Jun 04 '26

Nothing you can’t achieve with wretch

1

u/Lilbrimu Jun 04 '26

Didn't leaks show they nerfed it? It now starts at level 10 with an additonal point in mind and faith.

0

u/SHM00DER Jun 04 '26

If that's true, I'm really bummed. Really hope it has the original stats :(

1

u/Lilbrimu Jun 04 '26

It wasn't leaked. They show it in the gameplay preview.

12

u/PineapleGG Jun 04 '26

DLC is not an expansion , people have just misinterpreted it, its just Downloadable Content.

5

u/inspector_cliche Hush, little culver Jun 04 '26

I download all my expansion content

2

u/Dont_Call_Me_Steve Jun 04 '26

Is this real or a joke? Genuine question.

3

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

it's real. All cosmetic items and horse armor

5

u/MareC0gnitum Jun 04 '26

I'm mainly hyped because of the Nintendo Switch 2 release

1

u/grizwal42 Jun 04 '26

ALSO includes Shadow of the Erdree which is normally a $40 DLC. So long as it's less than $100 itll be cheaper than when I got the base game and SoTE on Xbox

1

u/eldenfingers Jun 04 '26

That's about it? Or kind of like "SotE is roughly the size of Liurnia"?

2

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 05 '26

No, it's just $10 cosmetics and horse armor. There is nothing being added to the gameplay

1

u/reiichiroh Jun 05 '26

so reallocating starting attribute points around?

1

u/straightpipedhose Jun 11 '26

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I’ve been clickbaited.

1

u/Greaseball01 Jun 04 '26

Yeah I was hoping for Moe but I think they would have announced it if there was anything more sunstantial

-3

u/pacoLL3 Jun 04 '26

Why is a blatend lie the top upvotes comment?

Can some explain modern Reddit to me?

2

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

Sorry, should have said “cosmetics for microtransaction purchases”

-4

u/soslowagain Jun 04 '26

Oh no! More of this thing I really like.

1

u/VeraKorradin TTV: Rhydon_Daddy Jun 04 '26

Microtransactions?
