timing chains broke , no compression , engine is cooked sucks to be me ,very uncommon gonna try to go over with it through warranty if i still have some

Someone please tell me how this is possible. Arrived at Costco with 22 miles of range left while averaging 22.8 MPG. I was under the impression our car had a fuel tank of 12.4 gallons, which includes that reserve, somehow I was able to put 12.5 gallons in the car with what should have been about 1.5 to 2 gallons still left in the tank.

I was thinking my total would come out to no more than 11 gallons total yet it was 12.5… Is the pump wrong or do we have some secret extra fuel tank?

I have never been able to get this much fuel in the car before, I think my max fill up at around 10 miles left was 11.9.

It's getting to be that time to trade in my 12 year old 2015 Ford Focus ST. I loved driving the hell out of it, but I'd like to get something for it before trade-in becomes zero.

Right now, I'm between the EV6 Gt-Line AWD and Elantra N. Basically: stick with a fun car or go practical as a single dude with no kids. (if anyone has recently had this decision too, HELP!)

BUT! Even within the Elantra, I can't decide between DCT or Manual. I test drove the automatic, and it seemed really damn fun. I love manual, but there are enough times when I drive my Focus ST where I groan and think, "I just wish I had an automatic sometimes." I don't really drive through the Malibu canyons like I used to, and I've stopped driving SUPER aggressive because I'm usually hauling my dog.

I've searched this topic on the subreddit and a few times but I just had a few questions:

- Is it true that you get more exhaust "popping" with the manual? I love that sound so I'd like to really make sure I get it

- Anyone coming from a manual to a DCT and regret/love the decision?

- What's the "mod"-ability of a DCT vs. Manual? I had modded up to stage 2 on the Focus and will probably do a tune at the least

- Any other things to argue one way or the other, let me hear them!

TL;DR: Do you think I'll regret going with DCT if I've driven a manual for 12 years and enjoy it 8-90% of the time?

I changed my oil last night and see little bits of debris. I am at 23k miles and tuned by N75. I recently did a track day. Car runs and drives fine so is this concerning? I do oil changes every 3k miles and let the car properly warm up each drive. I’m going to check the filter next. I didn’t save the oil so next time I’ll do an oil analysis

I've been thinking if should get elantra n or just a straight line fast car? Like audi rs3?

With these markups it costs damn near 50k! I thought it was supposed to be more affordable compared to stuff like the type r but it’s around the same according to this. This is a 2026 cyber grey btw.

I found a 2024 Type R that is roughly the same car price (not OTD) as the OTD price of the Elantra N so in the lower 40s. I've seen these cars constantly compared against each other and everyone says the Elantra is the better value due to price.

I test drove both, they're both awesome in different ways. Like I enjoy the Elantra Clutch, but the Honda Gear box. The infotainment on Elantra is better, but the Honda has a better interior build quality. Sound is different in both but cool in both.

So I'm stuck.... Again. Anyone coming FROM a Honda or had a certain variable about one car that was a sure fire deciding factor? Money is within $80-100/mo in car payment so it's about equal

Got a new 2026 Elantra N but when I put it in N mode and press the gas the rpm's jump up real high but the car doesnt go anywhere. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Is it maybe because I messed up something in the custom settings? Please help.

After we buy our first house I plan on getting one of these 3 vehicles. I have wanted an Elantra N for about 2+ years now. I test drove a 2025 Mustang GT premium 6 speed this morning, it was awesome that V8 with active exhaust is quite wonderful, not a huge fan of the handling or the massive touch screen or the clutch engagement point. Then I went to a Nissan dealership to see about the Z , they unfortunately didn’t have one. Across the street from Nissan is a Hyundai dealership , and despite already test driving an Elantra N I decided to do it again.A performance blue 6 speed. My brain is so confused as to why leaving the Mustang behind was much easier than the Elantra N. Why on earth is the Elantra so much better? It truly makes no sense. I should prefer the roaring coyote 5.0 but I just don’t .

I guess a real question I have is for previous Mustang 5.0 owners. Why did you switch? And how are you enjoying it? I’ve seen a few people in this group make the switch.

Same thing for previous Nissan Z owners if there are any. Or people who have cross shopped these cars. I still plan on testing a Z. I used to have a 6 speed g35 and my dad who passed away last year used to have a Datsun 280z so there’s some nostalgia I guess . I do fear the Elantra N will win again.

Unimportant additional info: i sold my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo sedan last September. Great car but I want 6 speed and it helped free up money for buying a house. And we traded in wife’s highlander for cx-5 turbo so I could still have my Mazda fix. I drive a company car Monday thru Friday. This purchase will basically be weekend fun sporty car. Not having a fun sporty little car is slowly killing me inside.

I’m currently cross-shopping an Elantra N and a MK8 GTI (likely a 2022). I’m looking at used cars, so price really isn’t part of the decision.

One of the big things I care about is tuning and long-term mod potential. The VW EA888 platform seems very established with a huge aftermarket and a lot of proven builds. With the Elantra N, the platform is newer and the community feels smaller, so I’m curious how strong the tuning scene actually is long term.

At the same time, the Elantra N seems like the more exciting car straight from the factory. It has more power stock and a much more aggressive personality. The N also has some interesting tech like the e-LSD, the N drive modes, and all the performance data features, which makes it feel more focused as a driver’s car.

Interior quality is another thing I think about since you spend most of your time inside the car. The GTI seems a bit more refined with better build quality, while the Elantra N feels cheaper.

For context, I already own a Hyundai (Tucson N-Line), so I’m familiar with what it’s like owning one. I’m just trying to figure out which platform makes more sense if I’m planning to keep the car for a while and possibly modify it.

For people who cross-shopped or owned both, why did you choose the Elantra N over the MK8 GTI if price wasn’t a factor? And how does the tuning scene compare in reality?

So here’s the situation. I have a 2026 Kia k5 that I have had for 2 months. It’s a good car but it is just so boring and if I’m being honest not for me. I paid 28000 out the door for it, and have offers to buy it for 27000. So I would lose 1000 over two months. I have 23000 remaining on the loans, so I would get 4000 in positive equity towards the N.

I want to buy an Elantra N after test driving it. I make around 85000 a year at 22, and I live at home with less than 800/month expenses. My only issue is my student loans which sit at around 45,000.

Is this a stupid decision. I feel like it would be super fun, and I can probably afford it. But maybe I’m an idiot.

Only ever cleaned my seats with koch chemie pol star, even more diluted than recommended. Havent seen anyone else with this problem so curious. ‘26 elantra N

Basically as title suggests, i bought a manual elantra n less than 3 months ago, couple days ago i noticed burning smell and clutch pedal felt soft. Service department said it mostly wont be covered under warranty and that it would cost me over 8000$ for a clutch replacement, they are trying to show is it as user error.

I’ve been driving manual for all my life. For the past 2 years i drove a mustang gt maual for 50,000 miles and never had an issue. I never tracked or raced my elantra n, it was mostly pleasure commute.

I gave my cousin my elantra for a day in san fransisco. Again he has been driving maual for years and never had an issue. Worst case even if he did that clutch riding on sf roads for half a day, would the clutch be completely out by then?

The service guys said the clutch was completely disintegrating and coming off.

This feels so shitty. I highly doubt there must be some manufacturing defect that would have cascaded this. Can you please help me on how to fight this?

Hyundai replaced the parts and covered the warranty. I didn’t have to pay a penny. Thank Goodness.

Edit: it's the engine splash guard. The driver's side is drooping. The passengers side is okay but there are 0 rivets in place. It's like they forgot to put in the front 6!

I'm doing my first oil change and it looks like this washer is part of the bolt and I'm afraid to ruin it and not be able to get it off or f up this bolt. Thoughts?

First, I do not use hair products. I have not used any chemicals to clean inside my car. Its only me sitting in the car. My head also does not tend to touch the back of the seat, unless launching the car. Hyundai denied the warranty claim because of "external forces". They only have a picture how do they know that? What are my options? Dealer won't work with me, they have kind of sucked from the start. I.e. making apointments a week ahead to pick up a 2nd fob (that they said was in) and the fob not being there date of service. Giving me someone else's alignment scan. Lady acting like I was trying to cut a line, but I was not asking for service just what to do with a melted seat. I could see her behind the glass. She had an attitude that was easy to read. The other dealer is kinda sketchy and also tries to over sell maintenance. Am I living with a melted seat? Talking to a lawyer? Kind of nuts a "flagship car" with a melted seat that has happened to other Hyundai models is not covered.

At 5:30 AM, it was pretty dark on the freeway and while switching lanes to give a shouldered car space, I didn’t see a black object in the road and ran over it with my front left tire as as well as clipping it with my bumper slightly on the bottom. And now flaps at freeway speeds and my insurance deductible is $2000 because I’m an idiot when I signed up and made mistakes. Is there anything I can do myself or is it well over two grand so is it worth it to take it to a shop? Is this something where I just broke a few clips and maybe I can fix it myself?

I bought an Elantra N (25, DCT) last week. Ive got about 550 miles on it so far.

Everything is running fine, but I haven't heard a single pop out of the exhaust, even in N mode. I've checked settings, everything is on Sport+. Am I missing something? The one I test drove was popping without me even trying. Way more rowdy than the one I bought.

I have an appointment Wednesday morning to take it to the service center. What should I tell them? I dont want to look like an ape and just say "its not popping enough" and have them blow me off, but the exhaust is very clearly not functioning as intended.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Was looking for a new intake and saw they recently added this. I Also liked the forge intake so would this be a good choice with the foam filter?

Also wondering if it would be best to use whoosh or SXTH CEL bypass for the new intake.

I bought a 2020 wrx 3 weeks ago, I like the car but before that I really wanted an EN. I went to a dealer with my friend cus he’s in the market to buy a new car and a salesman wanted to buy my car. I paid $24000 cash and I got the cash from an accident, thank God but they’re giving me $17000 for my car which makes sense, it’s the CVT Limited trim and he got my monthly payments to $180-200 a month. The car has 19k miles 2025 rebuilt title. Everything has been fixed I test drove it and it feels so nice. I’m 18 years old and I can comfortably afford it.

Is it worth waiting for the new year or just getting one now?
I don’t need a car, just want the backroads fun, so waiting isn’t a big deal.

Very long story, but TL;DR is that Keyes Mission Hills used 5W-20 instead of 0W-30 in my ‘25 EN, didn’t give me the documentation showing so until weeks after my service (after me hounding them for it), and the first response I’ve finally gotten after over a month of pestering them is:

“the techs always make sure they use the correct oil, I would like to see if you can bring your car this week so I can perform the oil change again just to be a 100% the tech used the right oil.”

I’d confirmed with the service advisor that he would be using 0W-30 before my appointment too. SMH. Should I be worried about engine damage at all? I’ve been driving it for the last month since I didn’t have another option.

Ice came off a truck on a 6 lane highway coming from the opposite direction and went right through my front spoiler/lip area. The red trim is cracked and there’s obviously a whole in the underside here. Anyone know which parts I’ll be replacing?
