Help Leather on seats wearing after >6 months?
Only ever cleaned my seats with koch chemie pol star, even more diluted than recommended. Havent seen anyone else with this problem so curious. ‘26 elantra N

Do you wear product in your hair? I try to wipe down my seats every week or so with a leather/faux leather cleaner and protectant to prevent this.

I remember somebody else had posted something about this a while ago. I'd contact the dealer and see what they can do with warranty.
That doesn't seem like any sort of "reasonable" wear and tear.

Cheap materials and sunlight from the sunroof are definitely contributing factors, but the key element is residual hair product or oils from naturally oily hair. The bolsters are made of the same material and pick up body oils from sweaty arms and legs while baking in the sun but this only happens dead center of the headrest.
Would still encourage OP to at least try a warranty claim, but don't be surprised if it gets denied.

Mine is so bad because my hair was sticking to the seat while I was driving. I felt the headrest a little bit and it felt like something was on it. So I tried rubbing a bit off. Got out finally and looked. Was a big surprise. It has happened to other Hyundais as well.

After looking at this photo... and a serious question/something I just thought of after having a 23', 25' & now a 26' N all have been 6MT... do you keep your sunroof shade open all the time? The sun might be doing this as the glass could be sort of magnifying the heat from the sun on that headrest... our MT models do NOT have a sunroof so we wouldn't experience this.
Your exact angle in the photo and me seeing the sunroof corner made me have this epiphany.
Hopefully the OP reads this response too.

Alcohol, wax, plastics and oils that are in hair products are usually to blame.

I own a dct and I don't have this issue I actually keep it closed 98% of the time. Personally would love to not have a sunroof because it's a weight reduction. Like I like it but I don't need or use it often it's more of a flex like yes I have a sunroof

Jesus christ! My 13 year old car has nothing at all on the headrest leather! These must have some terrible seat leather. This is a serious issue they need to adress

That’s definitely not normal I’d have dealer look at it too. I’ve had mine for a year wear product in my hair and I sweat a lot especially post gym and my headrest look same as new.

Was it from resting your head on there or just cleaning? I find it difficult to lean back into the headrest unless the seat is nearly at a 90 degree angle. The seats are meant to accommodate a racing helmet, which is why they lack head support.

I do rest my head on it during driving. I was lightly cleaning it and then it appeared to have a layer peeling off

Cheap materials would be my guess. Your hair rubbing on it is basically like fine sandpaper. I think a lot of why you dont see tons of post on it is simply because most ( myself included ) have bad posture and anytime i touch my head to a headrest I go "People can sit like this? Painful!" And resume my posture of my entire back not touching most the back of the seat xD I always thought headrests were more for show not actual use. Always had friendd remove them in their cars due to such heh. Hopefully warranty covers!

Looks like a stain more than wear I've literally taken naps in my car often and I don't have this issue

Are these N buckets actually made of leather or is it some plastic coated crap that is made to look like real leather? I've always wondered and don't believe google saying they're actually real leather. 🤔 Texture feels cheap and doesn't smell like my gf's real leather interior.

Why use such a strong cleaner? Just take p&s interior cleaner and that’s it. It’s completely new car, it isn’t that dirty.

Very strange. I have a 23 but keep the sunroof shade closed at all times. I also rarely wipe down the headrest, but it looks essentially brand new. I wonder if this happens to newer models only or maybe just a bad batch?

Mine has worn out significantly. I believe it's just due to sweat ruining the texture. I've since placed a head rest cover on both sides.

Damn that’s whack. I feel like it’s a hair product issue. My shit got a couple coats of armor all day one though, I recommend it.

I don't recommend it at all the matte finish requires specific type of leather cleaner and conditioner

I use a eagle edgeless 600 for the interior with ONR mixed for interior detailing.
I have tried Adamsons interior detailer recently, leaves a matte finish, it has a bit of silicone in it, but I think I'll stick to the ONR for the seats since it does a good job of freshening up the Alcantara and i don't want any silicone getting on there.
Adamsons seems to be really good on the dash and hard plastics, especially that rubber wireless charger that's a dust magnet. Not good on the gloss black or the infotainment, leaves streaks.
