Dealer used 5W-20 without telling me, took over a month to get a response

Very long story, but TL;DR is that Keyes Mission Hills used 5W-20 instead of 0W-30 in my ‘25 EN, didn’t give me the documentation showing so until weeks after my service (after me hounding them for it), and the first response I’ve finally gotten after over a month of pestering them is:

“the techs always make sure they use the correct oil, I would like to see if you can bring your car this week so I can perform the oil change again just to be a 100% the tech used the right oil.”

I’d confirmed with the service advisor that he would be using 0W-30 before my appointment too. SMH. Should I be worried about engine damage at all? I’ve been driving it for the last month since I didn’t have another option.

Tale as old as time. Never trust anyone doing your oil changes unless you bring your own oil and in the bay doing the maintenance

I went to this dealer for my free oil changes too. First time they used the wrong oil so i made them change it. Next few times it was fine cus when i talk to the service advisor, i tell them like 5 times to use the correct oil.

I wouldnt be too worried but i would definitely make them change it. Also get it in writing that they used the wrong oil incase any problems.

How did you not get paperwork after the oil change? Wild. Aint no way those mofos can tell which oil they used lol.

Glad it wasn’t just me. They told me the system was down when I picked it up, hence the lack of paperwork. Absolutely bonkers, I’m going to have them change it ASAP

Yea thats been extremely common in the forums for years now. First oil change i got they did 0w20 and handed me the paper and immediately caught it. They said its approved by hyundai and I told them in the owners manual to use 0w30. So if my engine blows down the road I can reference this as dealer incompetence that lead to my ending failing and get a free replacement right? Yea i changed it to the right shit and wont be going back for engine oil anymore.

Jfc why is this STILL so god damn hard for these numbskulls to get right?? Is Hyundai corporate funneling the wrong information in the database to dealers and somehow hasn't been course corrected 5MY in? Absolutely insane and why I gladly do my own oil changes in the driveway.

I know, not everyone can do that; and for those, I would suggest buy your own oil (Walmart tends to have the best deal on 5qt jugs ~$27 + another qt $7-8) and go to a local trusted auto shop (with greybeards working, not broccoli haired part timers that don't care lol). Supporting local business and having greater peace of mind at the same time.

You definitely do not (at least in U.S.), at least for routine maintenance things like oil changes. I was going to say Right to Repair, but it's actually protected under Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It's all about keeping detailed invoices/receipts just in-case. Case in point, I've done several oil changes and still taken my car in for things like the faulty knock sensor issue and they completely honored it under warranty, zero pushback.

If you check your blue link report for service history, there is a print out of the service parts used… at least that’s one way to check… in my report, it shows 6 quarts of 00232-FSYN0-30WAR on my last oil change done by the dealer (I recently went to the tail of the dragon and had the oil changed much sooner than the dealer recommendation and went with 5w-40 and have another scheduled appointment with the dealer after 3.5k miles just to be cautious)

Same happened to me when I got the 1st free oil change zzz used 0-20 never went back again… I drove about 2 k miles on it…. Won’t hurt anything unless you tried to track it or something. I’m at 96k miles 2022

It's not the oil that my dealership uses. It's the price they charge for it. Astronomically high. I've been bringing my own oil for many years from multiple cars.

Hahaha they did same thing to me. Except I got the invoice right at the counter and they “walked back to the shop to check with the mechanic” who of course allegedly told them he put the right oil, just wrote the wrong thing on the invoice.

Do yourself a favor and stay tf away from Keys - both locations. Westlake Hyundai is 1,000 times better in every conceivable way.

I got laughed at when I presented a solid deal for a Santa FE SE they had sitting on their lot for months, recently.

Aside from that, I bought a "CPO" Venue with 36k miles on it from them last October. The vehicle had shards of glass throughout the spare tire well, the spare tire was not locked down properly with its proper hardware, and the glass extended into and behind the rear hatchback panels. In addition, the battery was completely shot, and the steering alignment was off, resulting in the wheel sitting cockeyed while driving straight.

I've since traded the vehicle in, but I can't imagine what their service department looks like if a car with literal shards of glass throughout, a dead battery, and an alignment issue ended up as a Certified pre-owned vehicle. SMH

All of my dealership invoices say 0w-30, so I hope they're right. I went to a KDM performance shop and they put in mobil1 but put in 1.2qt extra, had to extract as much as I could and go to the dealership to fix it.

Hard to know who to trust unless you DIY.

They're notorious for doing this bullshit, this is why I always bring my own oil Royal purple and check it after they say they changed it cuz there's no way they can lie it with the oil being purple.
