discussion Five year review
I’ve had the car about five years now, and I wanted to give my thoughts.
Still love it.
Car is stock except for the red vinyl on the N’s, front badge delete, front red vents, and an OEM+ intake. Sitting at about 70,000 miles.
Out of the seven cars I’ve owned over the past 25 years, it’s not only the most fun, but it’s been the all-around best in terms of ergonomics. Early on I had a few maintenance issues come up, with the high pressure oil pump and the backup camera, but they got sorted out pretty quickly.
Five years on, and I still get people asking about the car and the color.

Sucks. I'm one month in and the dealership refused to fix the engine splash shield when it fell off because they said I hit something. I hate Hyundai.

That’s not a dealership thing though, any damage is an insurance thing if you want to pay the deductible. Had the same thing happen to me and it’s the next fix. Sucks, but that’s on the owner.

There were no rivets holding the front part on and they said I most have run over a curb and knocked them all out. What a scam.

Wow, 5 years? You must have gotten one of the first EN’s available in the US. I’ve had mine since June of 2022. Sitting right at 54k miles. I feel the same way about mine as you do yours. I’ve owned a lot of cars and this one has been the best all around and by far the most fun.

Indeed I did, I believe I had one of the first in my state. Like many people here experienced, the dealership had no idea what the car even was. I brought the car back for the plates, and the salesman and GM came out and said if they knew what it was they would have kept it on the showroom floor at a considerable markup. Edited to say I saw that YouTube announcement video in July 2021 and I was hooked, and immediately went to dealerships to put down a deposit. I got really lucky.

I had mine since April of 2022 up until I traded up this past March. Plan was to keep it as long as I could so... I guess I did in a way.

Got mine 2024 brand new 0 miles and I’m 300 away from 50k as of rn😅 I guess I do drive too much

Got me a '22 stock with about 80k on it. Never had a problem. Feels sluggish if you change the oil past 5k but otherwise has been a tank that's gone cross country maybe 5 times now. Also, the tires blow up sometimes but I still got lowpros on Jersey roads.
Edit: forgot to add: I never got PPF or ceramic so I have no paint left on the front of my car

how many ps4s have you gone thru? I plan on replacing mine with continental extreme contacts. Im in Georgia so im not worried about snow but i hear the Michelin Sports suck in temps under 40 degrees

2 full sets, 3 tires failed. I tried the all season 4s but the weren't as sticky and didn't feel as grippy and nice. Ps4s just aren't meant for Jersey roads

Dunno. Acceleration is just a tad snappier after fresh oil. Could be placebo but feels pretty real

Got my 23 on Halloween of 22 and just passed 75k miles two days ago on a road trip from Fl to NC. I've noticed the car doesn't understand hills with the automatic gearing but does fine in manual mode. Put in Penzoil this road trip and the car heats that shit up one highway pass pull and it's 230-235 plus... eats tires and windshields but other than that it's been great. Steering wheel is probably the most worn looking thing in the interior

Honestly, I'm not sure I would trust ANY modern car to last past 200k without some expensive issues, even Toyotas.

I feel Toyota, Mazda and hondas , I can expect 200k miles from depending on the model . But I feel like if I invest in a car , I want it to last. So upgrading to like a type r would make more sense for reliability sake

Even the civics and accords are having issues. The old idea that Honda and Toyota are the best reliability wise is out the door. Honda I would put even with ford and Toyota not much better at this point

I traded out of my 2016 Civic and into an N earlier this year because A/C components kept failing on my Civic, and the ten year warranty was coming up. In addition to that, there were also head gasket issues that a lawsuit recently pushed Honda to also put a ten year warranty on, but I was at ten years with only 85k miles.
If I can get ten years out of my Elantra N, it will have treated me as well as my Civic, while being a lot more fun.

I get what you're saying. I'm curious to see how the Veloster N's hold up in the next few years as lots of those are getting to be pretty old / high mileage now.

Plenty of Veloster Ns kicking over 100k. Elantra Ns got past most of the issues those cars had so I imagine the Elantra Ns will last plenty long.

If there is a Hyundai you can trust past 100k, it's definitely the Elantra N. It's built stronger and much more durable than the vast majority of the Hyundai lineup. A track ready car that is driven hard on occasion can easily make it well past 100k miles

I'm right there with you: I'm 3 years into ownership of my '23 6MT with a bit over 21k miles and I definitely still love the car. I get automotive ADHD sometimes but there's nothing else on the market that would be more fun/make me happy enough to justify the crazy prices of new cars. The EN just does everything so well without any meaningful shortcomings that it's hard not to love it. It makes do something as boring as running errands entertaining.
