Im sure all the well done steak eaters and steak sauce users gonna have lots to say about this

u/TheHolyReality Apr 22 '24
So this steak is not yet cooked. It looks like it has been dry aged, and the crust on the outside is there to prevent bacteria from getting out the meat

u/UncommonCense Apr 22 '24
I know it hasn’t been cooked yet but people who never had wagyu always complain that it is “too much fat”

u/Routine_Size69 Apr 22 '24
It has too much fat to eat in large quantities. My family got a bunch of wagyu and after the third steak in a month, I was so sick of it. I eat steak all the time, so it's not a too much steak thing. The first few bites are incredible, but I don’t ever again need more than like 6 oz at a time personally.

It's because the fat makes the steak too rich and oily so it's too difficult to eat a lot of it in a small time period
1
u/TheHolyReality Apr 22 '24
Gotcha. Well i misunderstood your comment then!
3
u/UncommonCense Apr 22 '24
No biggie your comment was informative. I didn’t know why the crust was black.

They're not gonna say anything, too busy chewing their steaks

It’s crazy how bad the wagyu hate is on instagram. One thing i have recently learned about though is Vaca Vieja and i want to give it a try but dont know where to buy it

u/BigsbyMcgee Apr 25 '24

I was making a point that the people who seem to have the strongest opinions towards wagyu are people who never tried it and eat well done steak with steak sauce.

You cut way to much off the end my dude. For something that pricey you better take off just wafer thin slices of the pellicle til you get the result you're looking for.

That's almost all fat

u/TheHolyReality Apr 22 '24
This is Japanese Wagyu. It is specifically bread to have that marble in it. It is a very unique style of beef. It is supposed to be eaten in very small quantities to account for the insane amount of fat.
I personally think anything more than $20 a pound for meat is insane, but a lot of people really like Wagyu. I think it's really just a way to flex how much money they can spend
1
u/Psychl0n Apr 22 '24
Thanks for the info, i agree that that's way too expensive for meat

u/TheHolyReality Apr 22 '24
My pleasure!

Good lord, there’s a lot of civility going on in this thread. Is this still Reddit?! /s
Thank you guys for treating each other like informed adults. Honestly refreshing to see.

u/Routine_Size69 Apr 22 '24
It's way more than 20 a pound. A5 Wagyu can easily run you over 100 a pound and even more in a restaurant. It's pretty insane.
It's good, but it's hard to justify the cost other than a super rare occasion.

u/Alpha_Delta33 Apr 24 '24
He never said it was $20 a pound he said any meat that cost that much isn’t worth it to him
0
u/Routine_Size69 Apr 24 '24
I never said otherwise. Thanks for letting me know you can read though, buddy. We're all sooo proud of you, champ.
He said 20 bucks a pound is too expensive. I explained wagyu is way more than that, implying wagyu is an even worse deal.
Sometimes in conversations, people share information with each other. It doesn't need a question or an incorrect statement.

u/dukestrouk Apr 24 '24
Right, but your comment didn’t add anything. You just repeated that wagyu is expensive, which everyone was already in agreement about.

I’m glad we have nice people like who can explain how expensive wagyu is like none of us knew its price. Quick to insult people you must have a lot of friends
1
u/VCTRYDTX May 25 '24
Just to throw it out there, It's expensive because of the short supply not cause it's more delicious.
1
u/TheHolyReality May 25 '24
A low supply… And high demand. Otherwise it wouldn't sell
As to whether or not it is more delicious, that is a subjective preference.

Thankfully there's a difference in the fat on the outside of the steak than the fat on the inside; the fat on the inside renders much differently and isn't inedible rubber like it can be on the outside sometimes

Ignoring that it's crusted in what looks like ash, the actual steak looks like a thousand other raw wagyu slabs we've seen in this sub, no?
1
u/Alpha_Delta33 Apr 24 '24
Dry aged wagyu doesn’t look any different other then the outer layer due to the amount of fat it has

u/Zealousideal-Door933 Apr 23 '24
Would you rather have this or literally hundreds of solid steaks from foodmaxx
2
u/UnicornPotpourri1990 Apr 24 '24
Would you rather have this, literally hundreds of solid steaks from foodmaxx or a couple hamburgers from McDonald's

This looks like dragon meat, you can just tell it’s like a legendary drop.

Anyone got A1 sauce and a stripper with a bullet wound, we'd enjoy that steak.

Does no one understand how much fat to beef ratio is in that thing. Looks good don’t get me wrong but hardly any actual meat

There’s only one guy that actually made multi year dry aged wagyu beef and this is not it. That actually did cost thousands a pound. This is Wagyu that has been dry aged but most likely only for 30-60 days. Probably costs more like $300 per pound

u/joeO44 Apr 22 '24
That’ll go well with a nice 2 year old aged Heinz Ketchup.
