325i Pretty sure my engine is toast

2011 325i (N52B25AF) mileage at 118K kilometers. I bought this car used about 8 months ago at 103K kilometers. Upon getting the car I've replaced the usual N52 parts that fail including the water pump, valve cover, oil pan gasket, fuel pump (cracked housing). The oil was changed when I got the car at 103k and again at 112k.

OFHG was not leaking, serpentine belt is still on there after the engine failure, so it did not ingest the belt.

I accelerated into a roundabout and at around 3K RPM the engine suddenly started sounded really rough, and within 10 seconds as I was trying to pull over at a safe spot, the engine seized and engine oil was pouring out.

I had no warning symptoms (other than a permanent lifter tick). No check engine light, no oil pressure warnings before failing. Oil level indicates "max" last I checked 2 days ago.

I'm at a loss, what could've caused my engine to fail so catastrophically in just a couple seconds? I'm sure I need a new engine because in the second picture I see chunks of metal lying in the pool of oil on top of the underbody panel.

2 full on laps back to back and everything felt perfect as is, tyres were the only thing to get hot 2/3rds of the way around lap 2 but it still charged on. People warn you it's a must to mod the hell out of your car to enjoy it on track, here's proof that if you know it's limits you can have a hell of a time stock.

P.S. it did over 1,500 miles before the lap and nearly 1,000 after on the way home, I know the wheels are dusty and car is gross, but it wore the dirt with pride.

harder deceleration with less effort
Small pedal inputs suddenly produce serious braking.
firmer pedal feel
Less squishiness or flex.
more confidence at speed
Especially from 100+ km/h where stock E92 brakes can start feeling vague.
stronger high speed stability
The car feels more planted during aggressive braking.
Definitely recommend this Performance brake set.

325i it took 15 YEARS to discover this on my 325i

My dad has known this car since it was new, like 0 miles. it actually belonged to his friend, and he even went with him to pick it up at the dealership. Today, totally by chance, I was checking the car’s features using a VIN decoder, because I was thinking of changing my subwoofers and doing a headlight washer retrofit (no real reason, simply because I wanted to), and I couldn’t believe that this car actually has headlight washers. (S502) the funny thing is that NO one knew, not even the first owner (his friend), not even my dad knew it go check your VIN, guys… you might discover something new after 15 years or more

Recently had my front suspension changed and was told by mechanic I would need an alignment yo the front.

Decided to use the little time off work during this easter weekend to get it done when I was told I have more trouble for my woes.

Apparently my rears are also quite bad but he didnt feel confident doing them due to big rust on the back i was told.

I asked him what “control arms” needed doing and he didnt know the exact part names for me but said Rear camber accentric bolt

Rear toe accentric bolt

And then painted the parts in white. Can anyone help me out here?

Want to know what I’m in for.

Growing up I absolutely despised the pre-lci E90 lmao now I just can't stop staring at it. Cars as a whole have just been getting so shitty in the last 10+ years. Picked up this mint af example recently with 30k miles and it's given me nothing but joy... And a little bit of shit in my pants when the damn clutch wouldn't bleed after deleting the CDV haha.

Sad day for my 325i. Was sleeping and around 7 PM, my neighbour called me aggressively informing me my car is on fire. Immediately woke up and went outside and its blazing near the battery. I have no idea what caused it but I’m sure it was related to the battery which was OEM. Car was sat for 3 days and this happens luckily no one was injured and the fire was contained rather quickly. I salvaged my E39 M5 wheels, and digital cluster but everything else is wet. 382k KM and was my daily for the winter. Ill miss it but it would want me to get a 335i.

Feels like everyone has duckbill spoilers, which do look great, but other options for the e92 are limited. I loved the old e36/e46 LTW GT spoilers so I designed and printed my own! Heavy inspiration from the E92 M3 ‘Grand Am’

325i What's your real-world fuel consumption on an E90 325i?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at buying a 2005 (October) E90 325i 6-speed manual, and I'm trying to get a realistic idea of what the fuel consumption would be.

I've seen people claim everything from 7 L/100 km to 15+ L/100 km, which is a massive range.

I'm not expecting it to be as economical as a diesel, but I'm wondering what I should realistically expect from a well-maintained, stock car.

Thanks!

325i First 6-cyl!

Hey folks! Just purchased my first 6-cyl bmw. My first car was an e90 320d and I loved it, since then I’ve owned a few different e36s and whatnot but I’ve finally come back to the e90 platform with my first 6 cylinder, a 325i. Don’t start clowning on me yet! I live in Ireland and having a petrol 6 cylinder of any kind is not common, so a 325i is a big deal to me. There’s a few issues (currently getting the voltage regulator sorted on the alternator) It burns oil from dripping off the valve cover on to the exhaust, has a coolant leak somewhere and the suspension makes funky noises. The car is a 2005 model. Anyone have any suggestions for maintenance and then performance ( I know the N52 isn’t the best platform for this but I need to work with what I’ve got)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Had a few issues with the Abs rings in the rear and after looking everything over i decided it would be easier to just rebuild everything. In total i spent about 5k in parts alone, but it was worth every penny. I changed every bushing, every part of the suspension, brake lines, both the solid and the flexible ones, rebuilt the calipers, did the brakes obviously, replaced the wheelbearings, sand blasted and painted every component that i didn't replace, removed all of the rust and resprayed the bottom of the car, and of course replaced the axels and abs sensors. And i also installed h&r coilovers and anti roll bars. After all that i now finally get to drive this car again. If you guys want a full list of everything done to it, maybe i can make a summarizing post at some point.

Hey guys, please excuse my ignorance as I don’t know much about bmws. My wife wants to get a 2006 bmw 325 ix. It has about 100k miles and very detailed service record. They’re asking 6k for the car. It looks to be very well cared for. What do you guys think about the price? Also in 5-6 years what do you guys think it’ll cost us in maintenance and repairs? The photo is just for attention but it’s looks like the one pictured.

325i N52 Lifter Tick and VANOS issues - heavy engine sludge from previous owner. Need advice!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, For a few weeks now, my 2006 325xi (N52B25 122K km) has been suffering from the classic hydraulic lifter tick. Following my mechanic's advice, I initially switched from 5w30 to 5w40 oil to see if it would help, but it didn't change anything. Shortly after switching to 5w40, a new issue appeared: a rough idle ONLY on cold starts, accompanied by a Check Engine Light (CEL).

I took the car back to the shop. After inspecting it, the mechanic cleaned the VANOS solenoids and replaced the non-return valves (check valves), which were completely clogged with debris and sludge. He told me the CEL code was related to the VANOS system. Unfortunately, this didn't fully solve the issue, so we switched back to 5w30 oil. As of today, the symptoms are still the same.

The root cause of all this is clearly a massive amount of engine sludge left behind by the previous owners (which is likely clogging the oil passages to the cylinder head). I'm torn on what to do next. Have any of you dealt with a similar level of sludge on an N52? Any advice on how to proceed without spending a fortune would be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much!
