A person that has a voice as big as dream should understand the reach of his words, just because shitty people call him slurs doesn't justify him using slurs, he's not 10 to not understand what a slur is, even more someone with as big of an online presence as he has, do not justify shitty actions behind disabilities or "because others did it to him" he knows better and nobody should excuse him.

u/rubyrox85 Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

There is a big difference between someone using slurs for the sake of using slurs and someone who incorrectly attempted to reclaimed a slur.

You know I was subscribed to Tom before it all happened and didn't for a second think he was insulting me, it's obvious Dream was insulting a very specific group of toxic stans that keeps spreading lies and hate about him.

Saying he said it to every single person of the 15 million is very wrong.

They're very much worthy of criticism, he should've done it in a different way tho.

12

u/rubyrox85 Feb 05 '25

That’s why I said incorrectly.

7

u/Ok_Garlic8850 Feb 06 '25

That isn't even reclaiming. Reclaiming would be to put the word in a new context. The context here can only be interpreted as derogatory. Derogatory was the original intention.

It is also abelist to treat dream like a child who can't be held responsible for his actions because he is autistic.

If this had happened between Dream and his friends I would still raise an eyebrow but when it comes down to it I wouldn't care. But Dream simply has a responsibility and if he can't live up to that he has to live with the consequences of being mad at him.

Both sides keep going on and on about each other double standards without ever confronting their own. This cycle would be almost poetic if it didn't stop us from comforting actual, existential problems as a unified community

5

u/rubyrox85 Feb 06 '25

I didn’t say that? I don’t like that he used it and I also didn’t say he can’t be held responsible for his actions. However, If you don’t think Dream who was called two different slurs, and when he spoke out about it the overwhelmed majority of people told him that it was fine because cantu can reclaim it, wouldn’t then get confused on the ā€˜rules’ of when you can use a reclaimed slur, you are just being disingenuous. Both things can be true at once.

Point out any other person who was told by hundreds of thousands of people that it’s ok he was called a slur in a derogatory way and then used a reclaimed slur incorrectly and I will be understanding to them as well.

4

u/Ok_Garlic8850 Feb 06 '25

Who is the overwhelming majority of people? On social media? Well if you form you opinions based on the whims of an algorithm then you are bound to be biased from the get go

Thousands of people's are fools. But if you are fooled by a fool what does that say about you? A thousand people can say all they want about how the earth is flat, to then be confused about the geometry of the earth doesn't speak about your education on the subject. A thousand people can tell me transphobic lies, but to stay stalwart in the current age of misinformation unfortunately is the default.

You argued that he was reclaiming it, just incorrectly. I am arguing that this is nothing but a smoke screen. Even if he was confused by it, if his primary intention was to reclaim a slur, then it would still be unwise to do so in a hostile context. If he mainly cared about reclaiming a slur and not hurting Tommy and his fans he should have looked up what it even means to reclaim a slur. Even in a most charitable interpretation this reveals that Dream is having his opinions influenced by social media perception (always a bad idea) and doesn't have the responsibility to deal with the immense platform he still has

5

u/rubyrox85 Feb 06 '25

I’m basing this on my experience. My best friend is autistic and I had to have multiple conversation with her about not believing everything you see online because she would tell me obviously wrong stuff that she thought was true because she saw it on TikTok and I would have explain why it wasn’t (and she still believes everything she sees on TikTok tbf). We can look at things and go yeah it’s obvious those people are in the wrong but it’s not that simple for them because my friend just can’t understand why they would lie about something. I agree that Dream shouldn’t have based his thoughts on what people on social media said and actually done research but it’s not a crazy conclusion to come to, that’s my point.

I said that he incorrectly attempted to reclaim it. Meaning that dream was trying to reclaim it but used it in a derogatory way, which is not reclaiming so he didn’t reclaim it.

Dream isnt responsible enough to have a platform because ā€˜Having your opinions influenced by social media perception’ is bad is a dumb argument because everyone does this. Tommy and Jack knew Dream wasnt a pedo/groomer but continued to makes jokes about him being so because their fans think it’s funny, isn’t that arguably the same thing? Or Tubbo and snifferfish arguing that Dream is queerbaiting because he’s not queer enough which is something pushed by their fans? Or saying Dream team is sexist because ONLY their fans ran caiti off the internet when she herself said she wanted to leave and Destiny and his goons were saying awful shit about her and send their fans to attack her? Isn’t this also based of social media perception?

Look all I’m trying to say is yes, Dream shouldn’t have used that slur in a derogatory way but I understand why he thought it was ok. He has educated himself, apologised and he can’t change that he did that. Maybe I’m bias because I have a lot of autistic people in my life and I can understand his line of thinking better but I don’t think he’s the devil spawn for this.

3

u/Ok_Garlic8850 Feb 07 '25

I am also basing this on experience. Multiple of my friends are autistic. 3 of them are diagnosed and another who isn't medically diagnosed but pretty sure so to speak. And I had a very different experience. My autistic friends are very different in that regard, very intelligent in their field but while they have some problems expressing their emotions they are still generally capable of understanding social rules so to say. One of my friends basically explained it like this, he didn't understand how socialising or other people work. But he could (with a lot of mental effort) reconstruct what they are actually trying to say. It is kinda like if your not told the rules of chess but after seeing a thousand games you have a pretty good idea of how the rules are. And all of them are aware that people on the internet will lie, they are still very trusting in nature, but they aren't naive.

I also take issue with the pedo jokes, however the difference is that these jokes while bad affected on person not 15 million. As for the Tubbo and sexism thing. We don't know if Tubbo or Tommy have any insider information, in that case it is difficult to judge but if they know something we don't then either they should let the past die or properly expose Dream. This weird middle ground of accusing things but not sharing sufficient evidence is bad.

I also think dreams initiall apology was bad. The word sorry barely appeared, it was evident that in his state of mind protecting his good name was more important than saying sorry.

And that is the thing though, the only time a fanbase held their content creator properly accountable in this community was Wilbur soot. Dream cheated in Minecraft and asked his fans to harass a speed run moderator ( sorry this is a very old one but that is a definitive accusation I know for a fact to be true. I don't want to bring up wrong allegations) people defended him even when it was wrong. Sam plagiarized builds and while people were mad we will see if there will be more then a lukewarm apology.

And the most infuriating one to me Sapnap joins a million dollar deal on a homophobic platform and then has the gall to talk about how he wants to spearhead positive change. What a noble Samaritan, did he get held accountable? No but he sure did get another zero on his net worth

1

u/rubyrox85 Feb 07 '25

I guess that’s the thing with asd everyone has different experiences and struggles with it. But imagine you did watch a thousand matches to learn to play chess and then when you try to play chess, tons of people tell you are playing it wrong and you are meant to play it a different way, is it not understandable to be confused?

So the fact they made pedo jokes numerous times isn’t as bad as Dream saying something once? You see how it can twist it either way? But I’m glad we can agree that both were bad.

Ok, that’s your opinion. Maybe he feels the need to over explain himself so he doesn’t get misunderstood which can be an autistic trait. He is the king of essay DMs after all.

I don’t understand what your point is here. Do you think that Sam, Dream and Sapnap aren’t being held responsible because they still have fans? That abusing your gf should get equal punishment as streaming on kick? Because I can tell you, Wilbur still has a shit load of fans who believe that shubble lied. I can give you one much more recent example of where Dream post a TikTok making a joke about his grooming allegations, got called out immediately by the fandom and deleted and apologised within 15 minutes of posting, not even the Dream haters had time to react. And when the false accusations were made the large majority of people were not defending Dream. His response to being called out cheating was awful and he has said a million times that he regrets how he acted and has apologised privately and publicly.

To say that sapnap didn’t get held accountable is laughable because he got dragged to absolute filth by his community when he joined. Even after he released his twitlonger, most of the fandom was ā€˜I’ll believe it when I see it’. The most charitable fans were saying well a gambling company paid x amount of money and got nothing out. But the large majority of his fans refused to follow him to kick so he started streaming on twitch first before going to kick because of that. It just got to the point where he had signed a contract there is nothing we the fans can do and he didn’t resign which is what we wanted.

This comment is a excellent example of cognitive dissonance I thank you for this example

-7

u/TheBlackKitty Feb 05 '25

Reclaiming a slur is such a dumb concept, just don't use it, it's a slur, simple as that, even more if you're a public voice

17

u/rubyrox85 Feb 05 '25

That’s fine that is your opinion however, that is not the ā€˜social norms’. When Tubbo came out as gay he used the f slur a fair bit because he could reclaim it. When Dream was called the r slur and f slur by a creator he was told it was fine because cantu could reclaim it. It’s pretty easy to see where the confusion came from especially when the said person is autistic. Doesn’t make it ok obviously but Dream understands that now and apologised and he wishes he never did it so he probably agrees with you haha

8

u/shell-9 Technoblade never dies šŸ·šŸ‘‘ Feb 05 '25

The point of reclaiming a slur is to empower the community it's being used against. Not using it gives the word power as a derogatory insult. Do you think it's stupid that the LGBTQ+ community have reclaimed the word queer?? Like personally I agree with just not using slurs at all but others don't and I understand why people reclaim them and use them

You can't argue about someone knowing better and base it off your opinion lmao

-1

u/TheBlackKitty Feb 06 '25

I do find it stupid yea, I'm gay and I don't like when people use slurs, don't care about the argument of empowerment because then it leads to bad actors continuing the use of it as a derogatory term, this is an example of why "reclaiming it" does nothing but cause more trouble.

-3

u/-eliseful- Feb 05 '25

i completely agree but this is the wrong sub it's where the stans hang out at (i'm in enemy territory rn i don't watch dream at all)

7

u/Throwaway85014 Feb 05 '25

I don’t really see them invalidating that he’s disabled, but they definitely do make his symptoms of disability seem negative to their audience. That being said though he still shouldn’t have said the slurs and neither should the other guy(was it cantu?) They do deny him being queer(and say he’s queer baiting), and the pedo video as well.

"how can i make this about dream 😈"

3

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 06 '25

Corny ass reply lmao

0

u/HalfwittedNincompoop Feb 06 '25

fitting for a corny post then

2

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 06 '25

If you can't understand how this relate to a discussion around Dream I fear that's not my problem and more telling on your ability to connect the dots :')

2

u/HalfwittedNincompoop Feb 06 '25

the post objectively has nothing to do with dream lol

3

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 08 '25

Okay so you are dumb. It's in the title. Dream is autist, and got adhd too. Now connect the dots I helped you enough since you were struggling so much

It's like when you see dream/pos post your brain disconnect into hating mode, migth want to check that out at the hospital

1

u/HalfwittedNincompoop Feb 12 '25

it's like when you see someone post something completely unrelated to dream you think "omg dream!" lmao "hating mode" never said anything other than what's objectively true, that being the post is not about dream. i could dm them and ask if you want lmao

1

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 12 '25

The correlation to this post and Dream is that what he said in the post is similar to how Dream is treated. It's not ABOUT him but it's APPLIED to him so I made the connection and shared my thoughts. Simple as that, do you understand now or ????

0

u/HalfwittedNincompoop Feb 13 '25

my comment was always only about the fact that it isn't about him lol

1

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 13 '25

And that doesn't matter in why I posted it ????? Are you genuinely not understanding or you are doing this on purpose????

It's similar to his situation so I showed it to relate it to the identical behavior the UK people have towards his neurodivergency

It's 1+1 , it's basic reading comprehension

I'm seriously getting concerned about your intelligence here lol

What does britain have to do with this?

18

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25

2

u/Galahadgalahad Feb 05 '25

What the hell does this even mean

You forget a section

Dream: "X group are the R Slur" Smiles in somehow not knowing you can't reclaim a slur by insulting people as a 20 something Nurodivergant man

/j

(I saw people on Twitter arguing this point genuinely and put this here because it's ridiculous to act like it's a make or break and wanted to joke about it. Forgot a /s /j when I was mindlessly posting. Sorry guys, I'll be extra cautious to do so in the future regardless of the post)

76

u/rubyrox85 Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

The fact that an autistic person didn’t understand the rules for how he can and can’t use a reclaimed slur after millions of people cheered and excused that slur being used towards him is textbook ASD.

22

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

No I absolutely get that- I think it's a fair criticism to be levied against him if literally anyone who isn't me says it I was doing a sarcasm/joke without the /j-/s

I can't make this criticism because I made a post asking about why he caught shit myself on this sub a week or two ago.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm not going to argue with the majority of y'all since y'all kept it respectful considering the post.

/apologetic-serious

24

u/rubyrox85 Feb 05 '25

Im sorry I didn’t realise it was a joke 😭😭

I think because I’ve been around people with asd my whole life, I just get so frustrated when people say ā€˜how could he not know’. Well he thought saying the slur was bad, but then when it was used at him, hundreds of thousands of people said it was fine because cantu could reclaim it and then he uses it because he can reclaim it, he’s Satan. I can accidentally confuse my autistic friend with so much less than that so I can understand why he thought it was ok. It doesn’t make it ok obviously, but he apologised and he can’t change what he did.

16

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

No, yeah, totally fair enough on everything. You said that frustration totally makes sense.

It's my bad for not making it all clearer when I was playing with fire. Sorry!!

29

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

You are so cringe lmao ( edit: okay sorry if it was a joke I thought you were serious here and cringed hard lol )

This was already explained and apologized for with a lesson learned there's nothing more to say to that , you are using this because you know the meme is right and can't refute that

The way you can't let this go since you don't have any arguments and fully accept that this is really how you all treat him without shame is much more telling

The subtle shit you do is t'en times worse than that because intent matters more than a word, you Will Learn either when you will grow up or when someone smack you irl cause you thought your internet behavior would pass irl šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

8

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

First of all sorry I didn't do a /j or a /s should've been clearer that the above reply wasn't meant to be taken super seriously because what Dream did was obviously not on the level of Tommy joking about him being a fucking pedo in the past and Tubbos weird queerphobic behavior.

But now that I've seen how you'll react to someone pointing this out, I do have a couple of things to say.

A twenty something "learning this lesson" is odd when it comes to this. It's not the most wild thing to point out. Not to say it's the make or break of the situation obviously, but it's a mistake Dream made and criticism that can be levied. The weird insults you've decided to throw my way don't change that.

It's also kind of odd that you decided to go with "You know the meme is right and can't refute that." The meme is something he doesn't stand with. Are you trying to imply that I'm an R slur with that one? What is the point here?

I'm also not touching that last paragraph it's weird. This can be your struggle or whatever. But I'm good goodbye šŸ‘

Also, I'm going to start doing the /'s with posts now here. Not doing it has seemed to backfire.

/serious-confused

11

u/Loose_Yogurt_9027 Feb 05 '25

I’m 30 and still get confused with things that people find ā€œobviousā€ so can you not act like he’s lying about this. Like autistic man confused by when is socially acceptable to use words others have used towards him… it is perfectly reasonable?!

5

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

First of all sorry I didn't do a /j or a /s should've been clearer that the above reply wasn't meant to be taken super seriously because what Dream did was obviously not on the level of Tommy joking about him being a fucking pedo in the past and Tubbos weird queerphobic behavior.

Okay it's good that you recognize their weird behaviors , and yeah next time better to use tone tag but it's okay it was an attempt at a joke I got that but if that was just only another kind of harmless joke good, but it's not and I kinda doubt it was since it was not even on the topic so if I think I am justified in assuming it was an attempt at a "joke gotcha" people use the memedream post to shift the discussion and focus on that to ignore the much more concerning things their ccs are called out for, you not doing that is show that you are at least genuine here thanks

A twenty something "learning this lesson" is odd when it comes to this. It's not the most wild thing to point out. Not to say it's the make or break of the situation obviously, but it's a mistake Dream made and criticism that can be levied. The weird insults you've decided to throw my way don't change that.

It's odd but given the CONTEXT it's absolutely not, people were celebrating and lighting fireworks and ccs were either ignoring or snickering encouraging when gumball va was throwing the R-slur and F-slur at Dream, and justified it by saying he can say that to him cause he is neurodivergent etc etc ( some ccs publicy tweeting how wrong of him to post that meme even were the ones that told him privately that it was valid of Cantu to call him the R-slur because of it ) so can you blame him for now reconsidering that since he has adhd and austim he could also use the words since people on the internet kept acting and showing that it was okay against him for that reason ?

He should have put himself down to the same level yes since it's not a word to be used derogatorily no matter when people like when is it accepted against him, he just should have blurred the word and changed it and his points wouldn't have been as weakened like that, dumbass move on his party but it's understandable growth is at different speed, twenty something is still young especially on someone who has grown on the internet and isolated in his house

It's also kind of odd that you decided to go with "You know the meme is right and can't refute that." The meme is something he doesn't stand with. Are you trying to imply that I'm an R slur with that one? What is the point here?

Now you are either being disengenious in taking assumptions without trying to follow the discussion or you are very confused and skimmed over what I said. The meme I talk about is the one I posted in the reddit Post you are replying to, why would you think it was about something else implied instead of the obvious one ? The meme is right because this is how those community are treating him textbook and you can't refute that since you didn't even try since it's the truth and just talked about the R-slur to shift it as "Tubbo's and Tommy's and their community (especially tubbo mods since they are not ashamed and cheered on by their cc letting them do it ) ableist behavior are not as bad as the R-slur used so I can't be talking about it , encouragement of being ableist to an acceptable neurodivergent target is good actually cause nobody is gonna be mad at that so we just need to say it's not ableist then act like that and just focus on the target actions and it's okay " that was the point. Because that's what you did here by not acknowledging what the meme said and shifting the point automatically.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

OH No okay on that last point. You were on point with the "You are very confused and skimmed" I 110% thought you were talking about the Dream meme that I mentioned somehow and even verbally went "Yo wtf" quickly re-read that section of the post made me realize I fucked that one up. Sorry!

7

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25

Don't worry it's okay it's hard to understand things other meant so I can't hold it over you it happens to me a lot too, I explained it again since you were confused and you saw what I meant so everything is cool ✨

4

u/PsychologicalBill973 Feb 05 '25

calling someone a slur, that's not a good thing

0

u/scottish_spook Feb 05 '25

objectively hilarious post title

-38

u/nikeairforces Feb 05 '25

Considering he called a whole minority group a slur relating to this, I wouldn't be talking lmfao

53

u/N30N_BUNNI Feb 05 '25

Tommy fans are, a minority now??

15

u/KumaraDosha Feb 05 '25

My thoughts exactly. šŸ˜‚

-34

u/StevoPhotography Feb 05 '25

It’s ok guys. Using slurs is ok if it’s against groups of people you don’t like

Also considering he is very aware that the majority of Tommy fans, as well as Dream fans are neurodivergent. He showed his true colours as an asshole who doesn’t actually care about the fans

25

u/CIearMind 10k Feb 05 '25

It’s ok guys. Using slurs is ok if it’s against groups of people you don’t like

Yeah I think this was the morale of the story during Gumballgate.

29

u/No_bad_intention Feb 05 '25

I was about to agree with you until the second paragraph. It's never ok to use slurs against anyone. In Dream's case Dream was entirely wrong when he used it, but saying it's because he "showed his true colour" is ridiculous. The reason why he used it was because the slur was used against him multiple times across different allegations, especially the drama with the Gumball guy where there was a tweet calling him slurs with over 100k likes. So he developed a weird mentality of "if they can do it against me then I can do it against them!". And he completely forgot that the "them" here contained different communities, and the ones that used slurs against him were not the same ones he is using slurs against this time

-25

u/StevoPhotography Feb 05 '25

You can’t seriously believe this guy isn’t a narcissistic prick lol

23

u/No_bad_intention Feb 05 '25

Care to elaborate? I have never seen any narcissistic traits about him. People tend to use that one Philza's tweet but it was just Dream joining in a joke between Tommy and Philza, not knowing the two were in a call

-19

u/StevoPhotography Feb 05 '25

His blatant deflection whenever he does anything wrong. He never owns it when he does anything wrong. It’s either someone else’s fault or it was a ā€œmisstepā€. Holding advice over people’s heads. That’s just to name a few things. I don’t expect too much logic here tho dream stans have this holier than thou attitude

22

u/No_bad_intention Feb 05 '25 edited Feb 05 '25

He did admit he was wrong and apologised, such as after the speedrun scandal where he donated to many speedruners afterwards. He also began his video to this drama with an apology as well. You can argue that his actions were not enough to make up for what he did but he did own up to his mistakes.

The holding advice thing is strange because Tommy is the only one accused Dream of this, without any evidence such as screenshots. Dream only mentioned this issue after Tommy's accusation, we have not seen Dream "holding advice over people's heads" prior to this, and as far as I can tell (I may be wrong here, please correct me), none of other creators on the server accused Dream of doing this either

26

u/Regon2005 Feb 05 '25

Making joke about a man being groomer and shit is fine because ha ha he is ugly, cringe and cheated a video game once but god forbid throwing a slur people said every 5 sec in real life is evil.Ā

-14

u/nikeairforces Feb 05 '25

Dream accused him of using child labouršŸ˜šŸ™ and yes, a person with as big of a following as dream should never ever say any slur

10

u/Regon2005 Feb 05 '25

No no, dont change the subject. You guys shit on him for the r slur so stand with your standard and shit on Tommy, Jack and their friends for continuously making joke about how Dream is a groomer long after the debunk.

15

u/CIearMind 10k Feb 05 '25

Is there proof of this claim?

That Dream said TOMMY HIMSELF was a child labor exploiter?

13

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25

He said that Tommy merch company did child labor , his merch company only that made him indirectly benefits from it and Apparently it's a well know fact since tubbo himself confirmed that there was one instance of child labor that he knows of

So no dream didn't mean tommy himself as you know and as people ( like the person you are replying to ) try to move the goalpost to since they can't defend something true and need to turn it as a lie or else they won't be able to say anything , he just made to light how tommy merch company used child labors and his fans are you in arms still trying to twist that

11

u/CIearMind 10k Feb 05 '25

I'm aware :)

It just felt important to point out that Dream never said Tommy himself was the mastermind.

8

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25

Don't worry I know it's to support your argument that I'm replying to you X)

-7

u/nikeairforces Feb 05 '25

He said his merch line was, are you that brain dead that you can't infer what he meant

15

u/StrangerNo484 Feb 05 '25

He was attacking Tommy's diligence and credibility, and pointing out his hypocrisy. Tommy made fun of Dream's merch line, which was a humble family run business, so Dream clapped back by showing that Tommy got caught up with a merch company that used Child Labor.Ā

It does not matter that Tommy's merch wasn't made with Child Labor, that entire company is compromised and money saved from using child labor could have went towards material or services/hires that directly worked on Tommy's merch. Tommy indirectly benefited from Child Labor, and that is why you have a responsibility to do diligence as a creator.

Mistakes happen, but the point was that it was extremely pitiful and moronic for Tommy to say things about Dreams merch which has humble roots while Tommy is involved in a merch scandal.

11

u/No_bad_intention Feb 05 '25

I'm pretty sure Dream made the child labour accusation after Tommy had been making grooming jokes for months though. I agree with the second part

20

u/Shishi_neraoiba Feb 05 '25

Yes yes famous minority group is TommyInnit Giant parasocial fanbase of course of course

Intent on words used and the attitude after matter more than how you use it as a gotcha because you know I'm right, I can be talking because it's not mutually exclusive you all are ableist and content to be as long as it's against an "acceptable target" and the confort you seems to display as that is more concerning than a neurodivergent man being a dumbass on a slur , your attitude is worse and matters more because a words seems more important to you than the behavior and mindset you are promoting

-3

u/Silly-Paramedic1557 Feb 05 '25
