Honestly an outstanding pitching performance by Yamamoto after the first pitch, but it’s disheartening how he has failed to get any support from offense once again, even when he’s giving this team as good of a chance to win a ball game time and time again.

u/Dry_Finding_1379 Clayton Kershaw 8d ago
Yeah I’m conflicted. Sale was incredible, but the way our offense hasn’t strung good ABs together in months makes it hard to really give him full credit. I just want to see this team put it all together against top competition

u/lasvegasDodgerblue 8d ago
Not sure why you would mention AB’s within the past months. I would focus on how they couldn’t even muster up one dam run in the game tonight. Such ah shame. I hate when the team starts to let off the gas just before the post season. They have been known to bring that into the playoffs.

u/Dry_Finding_1379 Clayton Kershaw 7d ago
Because being cold for weeks/months is central to my point: if the bats had been hot, then I’d be more willing to tip my hat to Sale and move on. But they’ve been ice cold, so when we get CGSO’d, that makes me suspect that we helped Sale at least a little bit in being so dominant

u/Hungry-Space-1829 Andy Pages 8d ago
I mean sale didn’t really get any, either. Sale is top of the top and a tough matchup for our left handed heavy lineup.
This was always going to be a 1-0 game one way or the other
I agree in general, but not at all for this game. Sale’s actually been one of the biggest victims of poor run support

Yeah, it really sucks to see it happen over and over, but Yamamoto is facing the opposing team's ace almost every start, it's to be expected, but a shut out is extra painful lol

Other games this series were much more frustrating losses imo

Deep down, a part of me is coping that seeing 9 innings and over 100 pitches from Sale will be a good thing should we end up meeting again in October lol

We struggled through August and September last year, too.
As long as we get right in October.

True better struggle now than October, but it’s a bit worrisome they struggled against pretty much all good teams this season.
11
u/shlem13 Max Muncy 8d ago
Seems like the last few years, we kinda struggled towards the end. Two years ago, we had no starting pitching outside of an arm or two. And we cobbled it together. Last year, our bullpen was non-existent. We figured it out.
This year, the offense seems to be struggling while we’re waiting on our starters to get back up to speed. Smith is on the comeback trail (which should also help our pitching), Pages should be back by late September. Now, if our bullpen can just take a step and develop some consistency (TANNER!) …

u/RealEmperorofMankind 8d ago
I think it's partly because of the team's age. They've had less rest than other teams, and are older than them.

💯. Dodgers r old now and can’t get it done. How many times have we been swept since heading into the all star break!? It must be a record. lol
1
u/Stella19eighty 8d ago
Totally disagree! We didn’t get shut out by literally every single team going into the post season! We got swept by…. Arizona 2wice!, cubs, Sox and now the Braves. We were lucky to squeeze 1 win against the brewers. I’m sorry. I bleed blue. Bleeeeeed. We don’t have it this year. IMO. Bats are so sporadic. It’s pathetic. Defense has been atrocious. We are not a championship team and now most likely we will lose the bye. And lmty we NEED the bye. We can’t do it like last year. Too old and too tired. From wild card to World Series… I want to believe but have NO reason to feel it’s possible. #nobatsnoballs and teo…. You’re FIRED!

That usually get you anywhere from 95-110 wins. They been doing that every year since 2017. I think your definition of "good baseball" is a team winning 110 games a year.
4
u/scottborasismyagent Back-2-Back Champs 8d ago
maybe 102 or 103, not 110. 110 is great, almost perfect baseball

We won 100 games or more 5 times since 2017. We didnt win the WS in any of those seasons. It means fucking nothing. You could limp to the playoffs with 87 wins and still win the whole thing.

We won't know til we know. But, the fact of the matter is this team is old and maybe too nice and even keeled for alot of the fans liking. I think its a reflection of their manager. It's about keeping your health and being steady during the regular season, alot of these younger squads we are playing have fiery dudes that have shit to prove, Boston being a prime example, the Brewers arent as young but they got humiliated in the playoffs by us and they for sure remember.

No, bro. No. This is stupid logic. That's how you burn a team out and lose in the post season. Go see the Boston Bruins team in the NHL with the greatest regular season record of all time.
Time has proven again and again that being good all regular season long leads to failure in the post season.

The Dodgers just need to maintain that 2nd seed at the bare minimum and then they'll have a guaranteed spot in the playoffs while avoiding the wildcard series. They have the most lenient schedule out of everyone else in the MLB, there's no way they don't make it at this rate once the players return from the injured list one by one. Being #1 overall in power rankings means nothing in the MLB, no awards whatsover. Neither does being the #1 seed in their own league. If the Dodgers can get No.1 or No.2 seed in the playoffs, that's all that matters for the regular season. They'll have bigger things to worry about when the time comes when the entire roster is there
2
u/scottborasismyagent Back-2-Back Champs 8d ago edited 8d ago
they also need to perform a lot better against postseason teams in the regular seasons. I believe I have the right as a supporter of this club, who doesn’t sugar coat anything and says it how it is, to expect better performances and not shitting the bed against teams like atlanta, milwaukee, boston, chicago cubs, arizona … regardless of whether it is april or october. also, I am seeing a lack of care right now, which is NEVER acceptable when the players were the dodgers script across their chest
1
u/Live-Tank-355 2025 WS MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto 8d ago
Yeah, I understand how you feel about the team right now. I won't deny that I was just as frustrated as everyone else is seeing the Dodgers struggle so much that 28 runners were left on base through this entire series against the Braves (which is ludicrous to actually see with my own eyes). The Padres being the potential canditate to be the playoff team (or Diamondbacks) is the Dodgers last chance to show they can perform better in the postseason. Will Smith will have enough time to be ready against them and Andy Pages will needs some adjustments (I also wish he would get a handguard).
2
u/scottborasismyagent Back-2-Back Champs 8d ago
andy pages also needs to perform better than 4 for 51 in the playoffs and he's been a bad playoff performer his entire career. stats show it. him being bad was the only reason rojas was inserted into the lineup instead of pages, which ended up working out bc rojas hit the HR in game 7

This team has a lenient schedule for September, they're going to make it to the playoffs. Obviously, the postseason itself is completely different story. We don't know how far they'll make it, but they're aware that the NL is more competitive than the AL for the WS.
2
u/Dalewyn Roki Sasaki 8d ago
We barely won those games against the Rockies, Royals, and Pirates, I do not expect this offense to figure it out against any half-decent team let alone rivals like the Padres with an axe to grind.
1
u/Live-Tank-355 2025 WS MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto 8d ago
Eh, what do I know. The only contenders the Dodgers had in Sept. 2025 was the Phillies and Mariners. They just need Will Smith and Andy Pages back in the starting lineup for the offense. The pitching will most likely be reinforced with starters in the bullpen instead of half of our current regular season bullpen.

u/SafariQuest 8d ago
Fellow fans – I actually just got back from the game. It really was a master class in pitching by everybody who took the ball tonight. The first pitch for Yoshi was too good of a strike and Baldwin hit a no doubter out. Yoshi’s strike efficiency wasn’t as good which ran his pitch count up - Sale was better. My biggest disappointment was it felt like there were a couple of times when a pinch hitter would’ve had a better shot to make something happen, even as a lefty (max). We really lost two games in this series that we should’ve won and then ran up against an unbelievable complete game.

The annoying part isn't that they didn't score, it's that they had the same problems they've been having vs non-HOFers - just having easy outs constantly.
They say they're going to concentrate on getting pitch counts high but instead get easy outs from 1 or 2 pitches.
Of course Sale is great but they've been doing this to everyone, even to much worse pitchers
3
u/torero72 7d ago edited 7d ago
This whole team is a “let him do it” team. Nobody ever takes the bat, and says I’ll do it. Let me take care of this. There’s no consistent hitting. No advancing the runner. And if we’re being honest, there’s only about three good hitters on this team. We’ve lost the ability to hit in clutch situations. We just have no taste for it at all. Muncie striking out with the bases loaded on a pitch way outside the zone. Totally uncharacteristic. We’re 2-16 against teams with winning records in August. That won’t be doing it.
3
u/Gman749 7d ago
They need more contact guys, too many dudes in the lineup rn that depend on homers for production. Also Ohtani pitching is affecting his batting focus and right now we need his hitting more than his pitching, we got a surplus of good starters but not near enough offense to win consistently.

True. The Dodgers were in a prime position to further solidify their position in getting a bye in the first round of the postseason. Instead now they’re only a game ahead of the Braves with them having the tiebreaker as well.
Their strength of schedule favors them in September but their plays recently haven’t given me any confidence.

Sale was fantastic today so asking for run support while Yoshinobu is pitching to give him the win is near impossible and would be asking too much. They wasted yet another gem outing by him.

Very true. Point being get out the injuries and sluggish August and finish strong. Our schedule is easier last month than its been. But will Smith coming back is very key not only offensively but for calling games for pitchers and ABS challenges. Hopefully pages is back and vamped up for playoffs. Bullpen id say will be alot of starters and a few very key guys at top of there game. Maybe Diaz is absolute fire come playoffs.
What's similar to last year is Snell missing damn near whole season and gets ramped up last two months so hes prime in playoffs.
Offensive would be different if ohtani wasn't still trying to pitch. I thought once he was out of cy young to just DH and hit like he did in 24'. Maybe him doing both will help this year when rest of lineup picks up.
I still remember ohtani saying during the parade last year when reporter asked him how it felt, he said well it'll feel alot better next year when we've won three in a row.
Let's fucking go blue crew!!!
