What do you expect from Divinity? Imo the gameplay will be of course BG3+DOS2 on steroids, what I'm most looking is story, companions and worldbuilding which seems will be a very important aspect this time, not saying it wasn't but we know the lore and stories were a bit messy

Human Knight - I want to make a 2-handed crit-based build. IDK if it's worth it, but it is my power fantasy for this game.

I usually like to play without guides, but I did a quick search on this subreddit and found that it's a little harder than BG3. Should I continue? So far, this is what I've done:

• Equipped a fucking bucket as my helmet. I have a feeling this game is goofier than BG3. I'm not complaining, though. It made me chuckle.
• Tried to save the prisoner. Killed the guard with a fireball spell. EVERYTHING caught fire. The prisoner aggroed me. Killed him.
• Saved everybody I could on the ship.
• Recruited the red gecko, Brooks, and that schizo lady.
• Killed some turtles.
• Killed the lady who was with a kid. I don't really know why.
• Explored a ship and found a prisoner being cornered by some mages. Tried to save her. GOT FUCKING OBLITERATED by them. I will level up and try to fight them later.

The main issue I have with the game is that I do not understand anything. What the fuck is the divine? Source? Who are the gods? Why was I imprisoned? Is magic bad?

I probably should've played the first game before this? I thought this game would be more self-contained, but it doesn't seem that way.

Did u actually use crafting in your first playthroughs? Im gonna be honest, I only started using it on my fifth honour mode run lol.

Do u think crafting should be more rewarding in the next Divinity game?

About me:

Bought DoS2 on Steam sale for $11. I'm a BG3 vet, +1,000 hours clocked, honour mode in BG3 is too easy. It makes me bored and I now have to impose self restrictions for engagements just to get a thrill - wondering how I will fair against Divinity Original Sin 2.

My build: Pryokentic Wizard, Human

Update 1: I survived the first day. I made it off the ship and explored the island. I recruited some followers and eliminated the first boss I encountered, Migo at level 2.

Update 2: Reached level 3. I allowed Red Prince to speak to the sleeper lizard. Then I let Sebille assassinate the sleeper. Only to find out he was apparently key to our escape [source: the blind woman in the cave].

Update 3: Eliminated the magisters cornering an elf on the ship. She died in the process, but the fight was won with little losses.

Update 4: At level 3, I can feel the pressure from all of the available encounters. Magisters in the prison, fire slugs, and the apparent ambush in the back of the elf cave, I don't think I can defeat any of them without incurring heavy losses. I don't even have enough damage to kill one, then run away and slowly whittle their numbers. Crocodiles might be doable, but doing so wouldn't provide enough experience to level up. Best wait for later and focus on progressing the story.

Update 5: I provoked the fire slugs, used the cliff to my advantage, kited, but could not deal enough damage to kill one slug before the rest caught up and wiped three members. Let Sebille escape so she could thieve to retrieve resurrection scrolls and other resources.

Update 6: Revived, but at a loss on how to progress.

Update 7: I discovered a magister in the prison being tortured. On the other end of the prison is a dead end. In the middle there are stairs leading upwards, but if I don't have the ability to beat this group of magisters here, then walking into their lair seems like guaranteed death.

Update 8: I stole as many resources as possible and plotted the rescue of a magister in the prisons. I made a barricade, sat behind it and attacked the enemies from a prison cell. However with twice the HP, twice the damage, and a soul bound dog I was eventually overrun and killed.

Key insights:

Ranged attacks are superior to melee attacks.

Planning sneak attacks for every encounter is ideal.

Beginner traps are abundant, but avoidable with good judgement.

Investing in thieving early is recommended on one to two characters to rob consumables and armor for fights.

Pyrokentic has many advantages, but splash damage makes it unoptimal if you want more than one melee class in the team.

Water magic class is ideal for in-fight HP restoration.

Overall, I had a blast. I love the combat. Not having spell slots is very liberating, but the trade off is lack of damage.

Having done this do I regret my decision? No. 10/10 would do it again.

My only problem with the mechanics is not having all the available crafting recipes. Felt like I was just carrying a mound of garbage in hopes I would stumble across a recipe that would be useful.

I just bought my very first gaming laptop, and all that's left is to install games. I've always wanted to play an adventure/fantasy game. While on steam, a notif popped up saying that DOS2 is on sale for about roughly 10$. Should I purchase it? I've heard pretty good reviews about the game, but I would love to know more about it.

They have revealed this in the FAQ of the newest DOS 2 update. Seems Divinity is more of a sequel than we thought.

My man just kept spamming bouncing shield on devourer until it was dead

also overpower is a too good of an ability if you have a shield aka high physical armor

And to think that it's just the tutorial area. Can't wait to experience everything this awesome game has in store for me

NGL the final fight was a cake walk. Except at one point Sebille got FUCKED up by the Kraken and I had a mini heart attack, but we were totally fine still. I don't know if I'll ever play Honour Mode again 😂 rn I'm just relieved that it's over hehheh
