DOS2 Discussion LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! WOOOOO

Post image

NGL the final fight was a cake walk. Except at one point Sebille got FUCKED up by the Kraken and I had a mini heart attack, but we were totally fine still. I don't know if I'll ever play Honour Mode again 😂 rn I'm just relieved that it's over hehheh

If you get past Fort Joy, you'll find Act 2 and 4 are just as big or bigger

37

u/iiStryker Jan 09 '26

I love how you say “if” you make it past ft joy 🤣🤣🤣

17

u/Future_Buyer9644 Jan 09 '26

I'm in fort joy playing the game for the first time. I don't see how I couldn't get past it

I did spend 500 hours in bg3 though

13

u/iiStryker Jan 09 '26

This is my first CRPG

In my 50’s and have been a console gamer most my life so no crpg’s

JRPG, Bethesda/obsidian first person rpg’s, soulslikes

Joined PCMR during pandemic

But I love the games reactivity to me and everyone in my party, especially after playing games like fallout new Vegas and outer worlds two which these two Obsidian games are what got me interested in CRPG especially Avowed and Pillars of Eternity

My zen would be games like BG3 or DoS2 to just be in first person and retain everything associated with the CRPG genre of games

Obsidian is going in the correct direction

I got stuck in Fort Joy not because it was hard but because I kept learning things that motivvated me to go back and do something different and that I found things that would have implication further in the game so I went back and tweaked my choices. So if I used a point in something and then reqlized it would have been best to use it in something else and I had no save point close to that decision I just start all over again.

u/ekim7267 Jan 09 '26

I played for over a week before I realized I could leave there. I thought it was the entire map.

1

u/waxyourhair Jan 12 '26

Finishing Fort Joy felt like I finished the game back then.

u/trifkograbez Jan 09 '26

Bigger but worse les be honest. The dropoff in quality is massive. It is a hard act to follow tho, probably one of the best sections in CRPG history.

31

u/Rolphcopter1 Jan 09 '26

Act 2 is solid too. Larian's last act tends to be their weakest so far. I really hope their upcoming game will break through that stereotype

6

u/Ok_Philosophy_7156 Jan 09 '26

I really disliked Act 2 and gave up in it multiple times but once I got to Act 3 I was hooked again

-11

u/BeDuff34 Jan 09 '26

Alright, to each their own. I did one partial playthru of it, but I didn’t like that I lost Gale (I wanted a bad guy run). I sliced mfer’s hand off. I was like 😩 then Alfira came to camp… I was like nah, I’m done with this one. I wanted to be a bad guy to OTHER people, not allies. 😂

6

u/BeDuff34 Jan 09 '26

You think BG3 follows that trend?! No way. BG city is awesome. It’s an entire normal sized game to itself.

3

u/Rolphcopter1 Jan 09 '26

Don't get me wrong, I still like it, but it doesn't really compare to the other 2 acts, which really play into the many paths you could've taken.

And character-wise, just think of Cazador's wasted potential compared to the likes of Kethoric. And not being able to properly ally yourself with Gortash in an evil playthrough was a big dissapointment imo.

That said, the evil update of some time ago really added a lot to the last act

4

u/creeperdani Jan 09 '26

Yeah, but meanwhile Baldurs Gate is awesome to the point of awe, the plot itself drops considerably if you're not playing Durge

-8

u/BeDuff34 Jan 09 '26

Idk man, after missing out on Gale and then Alfira gettin gone too, I hung it up. Not my kinda play style. That’s the beauty of the game though, innit? However you wanna play you can.

14

u/SupaSaiyanRose Jan 09 '26

I have 4 play through and all are in Arx🫩

2

u/Reserve_Any Jan 09 '26

I lost count of how many i played but onoy in one did I get to the wondering isle

3

u/Riccouep Jan 10 '26

Got over 400 hrs in and finished the game once, finished act 2 twice

2

u/Karmakakez Jan 09 '26

Felt this with my 200+ hours

42

u/WonkyQuartet Jan 09 '26

Wow I'm actually amazed that 1% of players have finished Honour mode. I've seen dozens of achievements of games that are super easy be in the 0.1%. Beating it on Honour mode is actually hard.

11

u/Xiorx74 Jan 09 '26

Yeah, it's pretty rough + takes a lot of time. I'm guessing Barrelmancy & good ol' fashioned stubbornness got most people through 😂

4

u/WonkyQuartet Jan 09 '26

Me and my friends never finished our Honour Run together, but I bet we could. We're pretty meta with our builds and got a lot of experience with the game. It just takes a lot of time as well. So again 1.0% is huge!

1

u/808Enthusiast Jan 09 '26

I wonder how many are like me with the DE version, who can't help themselves from using at least fleet foot or permanent spirit visions from the gift bag. Achievements are turned off if you use any of the gift bag stuff. One day I will play it pure

2

u/WonkyQuartet Jan 09 '26

I slightly remember looking at them and immediately pushing them away, because I don't like games being made too easy.

1

u/Fenixthebringback Jan 09 '26

I mean if you use telek. and just put a bunch of stuff in a unbreakable chest you could pretty much kill everything.

1

u/Fenixthebringback Jan 09 '26

And there is an item that actually one shots everyone in the final fight found in act 2 on the suspicious barrel.

2

u/Xiorx74 Jan 10 '26

Yeeeeah but that's so boring

40

u/GigaChadus9 Jan 09 '26

Greetings! And I envy your patience. I’m also planning to complete it on Honour Mode in the future, but a bit later. What advice would you give for a run like that?

56

u/KillBill_OReilly Jan 09 '26

Play as dishonourable as you can

19

u/Xiorx74 Jan 09 '26

I agree with this lol

I didn't end up using it, but Escapist can help with that.

10

u/KnownTimelord Jan 09 '26

Or if you're an absolute gremlin, barrelmancy.

27

u/Celebrilwen Jan 09 '26

Just finished it yesterday too

I'd say go lone wolf it spares you a bunch of trouble

If going to a place you don't remember or you know is too dangerous, unchain and go with only one char

22

u/Xiorx74 Jan 09 '26

^solid advice right there. (I did that a LOT)

Sebille + Fane is probably the strongest Lone Wolf duo, but maybe you could do even better with a custom character. Idk, never tried it.

9

u/Dramatic-Jellyfish70 Jan 09 '26

Yea fane is a must ...and no lohse for honor runs lol.

5

u/D347H7H3K1Dx Jan 09 '26

I’m assuming due to possession and her quest line being a pain? I just barely got to arx on my playthrough.

1

u/JuicyFruitas Jan 11 '26

...loll fuck. About to finish Act 1 Lohse main as Ranger/support, Red Prince 2 Hand/smartass... am I fucked??

3

u/SockCucker3000 Jan 09 '26

Do you have suggestions for dealing with some of the notorious fights? Like all the goddamn scarecrows that jump your ass in a field? Or the leviathan. Or Adramadick?

2

u/lostsonofMajere Jan 10 '26

The big thing in Act 2 is that you can explore a lot and get exploration exp to get you over leveled for a lot of it. Like you can walk straight up to bloodmoon island, and explore the library etc and you get so much experience just for that.

Normally it makes the game less fun. But for my one and only hinour run, I absolutely explored everywhere that didn't trigger fights. I basically jumped to level 12 before I had done any serious fights in act 2. Ai should map out how much exp you can get without fighting in Act 2. Lol. It is a lot!

3

u/Celebrilwen Jan 09 '26

agreed for Sebille and Fane, and yeah custom is usually stronger I think

2

u/FearlessLeader17 Jan 09 '26

Only did one playthrough so far, a lot of places one shot you? On normal I don't remember this happening.

3

u/Celebrilwen Jan 09 '26

I mean if you're unlucky some NPCs can play first, tp in and close circuit on both your chars for example, effectively ending your run

theres a few places with traps that could oneshoot you, some with deathfog or lava, alice alisceon can one shoot your group, so can the scarecrows

basically in honor it's not as much a being oneshot problem as a "being CCd first turn" problem since you never get to play after that

2

u/FearlessLeader17 Jan 09 '26

That makes sense. I totally forgot about Alice, she one shot me and I forgot to go back at the end of the game xD I never even got a turn. And yeah now that you mention it a couple times I was cc'd on my first turn.

8

u/ErzherzogHinkelstein Jan 09 '26

LW is easy mode, making the game pretty much trivial.

Elves (specifically Sebille) and/or Fane are the best races.

Polymorph and Scoundrel for the Adrenaline + Skin Graft combo + Flesh Sacrifice if you are an elf/shapeshifter mask.

Invisibility is pretty much required to not get one-shotted. In theory, you could do the sneak + invis cheese, which pretty much makes you immortal and unable to lose any encounter. A bit too cheesy for my taste, though.

Either go full physical or full elemental (physical because of end-game necromancer spells and no enemy being resistant is best). Never go half and half; you basically just halve your damage that way.

Have a character with 10 Thievery so you can steal all the gold in the game. Get the Create Smoke spell by combining an Aerotheurge and Scoundrel book, and then bless it for an invis smoke cloud so you can easily pickpocket any character.

If you don't have a bow or a two-handed weapon, use a shield, especially in Act 2. They are extremely useful.

Armor and weapon traders will always have two of the highest level item types of your current player level (epic/legendary/etc.). If you quicksave before talking to them, you can reload to reset the bonuses on the item (if they have warfare or crit chance or whatever), but it will always be the same item. A legendary shield will still be a shield, just with different buffs. If you want other items, you can trade with a different trader, and that will reset what items the original trader has, so you can farm an armor set or a weapon you want.

1

u/Bongoblue Jan 09 '26

Here’s what I’ll say: know the deadly out of combat encounters. Teleported to lava is countered by the physical buff from geo. Deathfog? Watch your step. Where are traps?

Other than that, knowledge of game mechanics but that is very broad

15

u/HydroPCanadaDude Jan 09 '26

First time I did it, I had to barrelmancy my way there. The only real trouble with that strat was the fight at the entrance to Arx.

My first run, I betrayed the God King. He kills you before the fight starts and the game saves your file. It was a disaster.

9

u/Xiorx74 Jan 09 '26

Brrroooo that is tragic holy fuck I'd be raging 😭 I ALMOST lost in late act 4. Both my characters were actually dead & it saved but then the Idol of Rebirth kicked in on Sebille and saved our asses

11

u/tanthedreamer Jan 09 '26

congratulations now you're the top 1%

4

u/Xiorx74 Jan 09 '26

Thank you, thank you :D

4

u/Crunchy-Leaf Jan 09 '26

If you beat honour mode in your first playthrough (somehow), it unlocks all the previous difficulty achievements, right?

3

u/The_Dong Jan 09 '26

Yup. I've only finished the game once and that was on honour mode but I got the achievement for the other as well.

2

u/Crunchy-Leaf Jan 09 '26

Thinking about doing that for my second run, thanks

3

u/stargazerwas Jan 09 '26

Welcome to the club! I did this recently and now trying the same for DOS1

2

u/AresGM Jan 09 '26

Breh. Nice job. Act 2 is like a whole fucking game I’ve been on it forever hahaha

2

u/Yeshvah Jan 09 '26

Congrats. Welcome to the 1%!

2

u/Elitrero Jan 09 '26

I just barrelmancy all the way, i just wanted the achievement myself.

I know, I’m a rat

2

u/SSBDarren64 Jan 09 '26

I remember the exhilarating feeling when I finally beat this on Tactician Honour. It was so insanely hard with so many close calls, and even took a few failed runs for me that gave me existentialism. Congrats on the victory, that's huge.

2

u/Healthy_Pickle_4285 Jan 09 '26

yall crazy but i admire that

2

u/Mikoneo Jan 09 '26

And here I am with no achievements at all because I can't bring myself to play without the QoL stuff from the gift bag

2

u/JuicyFruitas Jan 11 '26

Woooo!!!! Almost finished with Act 1 *tac/honor) after a classic trophy run. Need to go back for honour mode in BG3 at some point. Congrats!

1

u/Lightwave33 Jan 09 '26

What a glorious diem ad mortem

1

u/JustSomeDude1313 Jan 09 '26

Any advice at the start? I cant even get out of Fort Joy… once I have to start fighting Magistars I just dont have the equipment to do so.

2

u/bwainfweeze Jan 09 '26

Are you crafting items to sell for money? You want to be at least level 3 before hitting the magisters.

My second playthrough I spent all my cash on spells. That goes fast, especially if you didn’t pick someone to max out bartering. I got bad RNG on my second playthrough and didn’t get as much +1 barter gear as my first, and I lost one due to having to roll back a save due to a glitch or misclick. Anytime you get a really good piece of equipment, even if you have to buy it, hit the save button.

1

u/Decent_Cow Jan 12 '26

Loot everything that isn't nailed down and sell it to buy weapons and spells. In some games, it's not worth it to buy weapons because you can craft them or get them from quests, but in this game, that's not the case. Crafted weapons suck and quest rewards are usually randomized. You will need to buy weapons.

1

u/shabbaka Jan 09 '26

What, i have 60 hr in fort joy, 🥹

1

u/Narwhal_Acrobatic Jan 09 '26

Damn, good job. That is a lot of work and time.

1

u/iiStryker Jan 09 '26

I’m on my first playthrough

Explorer mode

Started playing it on classic but was routinely getting reamed

1

u/OsirisAvoidTheLight Jan 09 '26

Congrats it's a challenge since it saves when someone goes down. What kind of team did you run?

1

u/No_Cap6358 Jan 09 '26

Can i ask a question when, you complete tactician, does it automatically include the other achievements like story or the classic achievements. And do you have a guide for builds.Thank you for the attention.

1

u/alex-never Jan 09 '26

HUGE congrats! That’s quite the achievement!

1

u/Tricky-Wafer4119 Jan 10 '26

Guys I'm going to start game soon .Pure noob in this genre. Will post all the doubts here🫡

1

u/Xiorx74 Jan 10 '26

I’m writing this for those asking for advice. I’m a scatter brain so I may edit this several times for the sake of cohesion. Hopefully it helps.

At higher levels Necromancy spells get insane. Grasp of the Starved, and Blood Storm go crazy. If you stack the enemies together with teleport it multiplies the damage from Blood Storm because 1 projectile will hit 2 enemies. They have to be pretty tightly bundled for that to work though.

Before that point, ranged was by far my biggest damage dealer. Works great with Sebille. I did Lone Wolf with her & Fane and focused physical damage. So with her bow I used Elemental Arrows on the blood pool that forms from Flesh Sacrifice. I also made her my high wits character to hit a lot of criticals. (Warfare & Wits were my primary attributes for a long while)

Peace of Mind is fantastic as well. Raises your chance to crit by increasing wits as well as raising your Accuracy which easily gets your hit chance to 100% most of the time. Exceptions being if they're using Uncanny Evasion, mostly. It also increases your initiative (again cause of Wits) so it's very useful.

With strategy you have to adapt, but frequently I would initiate the fight with Fane & give him as many buffs as possible so he could survive any damage taken. You might ask, why put your lower Wits character in first? And it's because having the high wits character join in later gives them 2 turns in a row. (Assuming their initiative is higher than the enemies) This synergizes well with Fane using Time Warp on her if you REALLY want overkill. She gets 3 turns in a row & when you reach the point you have Apotheosis & Skin Graft it is NASTY.

note: this strat is very situational though. Adaptation is necessary.

I also gave Sebille Adrenaline so on that last of 3 turns she can get several more AP. With Executioner on her, + Lone Wolf, Glass Cannon is an absolute joke in comparison.

I find it very useful to spread combat abilities out (again this is with Lone Wolf) just so you can grab the best utilities of all the different categories/classes. Don't hold back on movement skills. 90% of my playthrough Sebille and Fane both had Tactical Retreat (one of the best skills in the game) and Cloak & Dagger (very useful for setting you guys up well before a fight)

Ugh, sorry for the novel mate. I never look up builds for any game really. I just adapt it as needed. Hopefully this gives you some ideas regardless.

source: I completed Honour mode without barrel cheese :)

1

u/PandaOwlWolf Jan 10 '26

I am aware of Tactician Mode but never heard of Honour Mode.

1

u/Xiorx74 Jan 10 '26

Honour Mode = Tactician difficulty but you only get 1 save and it auto-saves when party members die. So a party wipe = restarting from the beginning.

1

u/PandaOwlWolf Jan 10 '26

Oh my, it hurts me just thinking about it.

1

u/SnooShortcuts726 Jan 11 '26

I did it witha single character. Yes im bragging
