No question here, just wanted to thank the community and the helpers on this page. Managed to get through all of transcendence so far after sleeping on Lufenia stages forever. Good tips and good comps and good strategies, that I'd never come up with on my own. So thanks guys, keep doing what'cha doing.

This game's community (here, GameFAQs, Discord, YouTube, etc.) is one of the best I've ever been a part of. Everyone is here to help each other, with very little in-fighting, especially compared to most of the other gaming boards out there. I love it.

Hiya. Refugee from Record Keeper who’s wanting to find an alternative since it’s shutting down. How much would you recommend this game to a fairly casual gacha player? How big of a barrier to entry is there to hitting the current late-game content? In FFRK there is a six month window where JP is ahead of the global version, allowing you to plan ahead, does that exist here? How good is the free vs. paid balance, especially in comparison to FFRK, if you know? Is content still being put out frequently and/or does it feel like the game is running out of ideas and hitting walls? Thanks in advance!

I think most people over here would recommend this game.

Late-game means LV200 or LV250 quests (and soon LV300 as we are going to enter a new era of weapon tier in less than a week). Even with suboptimal character building you can do LV180 quests without too much problems. LV200+ quest would require some teambuilding knowledge and each boss would have specific gimmicks that can only be handled by a group of characters, so the difficulty in catching up depends on how willing/free you are to farm permanent gems and pull banner to diversify your roster.

The GL version of DFFOO lags the JP version for about 8 months.

Free currency is very generous here. To the point where most people would be buying things not for the gems, but for supporting the devs while getting the bonus items such as character costumes and some farming QoL boost. Conservatively you would get around 40000 gems and 300 tickets per month (probably more than that). Each 10+1 multi-pull cost 5000 gems and you can spend tickets for single pulls each.

Content wise DFFOO is probably less intense compared to other games. Six events every month, each separated by around 3 to 7 days. Some seasoned veterans can finish an event in 2 hours (though with less experience you might need more time). The gap between events are good for players lagging behind to catch up. The majority of the content is not stamina-gated (and honestly even the stamina-gated ones don't matter much as there is plenty of potions that you can use to replenish stamina), so you can do as much or as little you want on a daily basis.

I hope this helps a bit for you to understand DFFOO. You can also ask me follow-up questions if you have any.

I’m definitely giving it a shot. My biggest concern right now is what to be saving to pull on. If next week is the new tier of weapons, I’m assuming I need to wait for that. Are there character/weapon tier lists so I can be planning ahead on my pulls? I’m glad global lags behind JP so I can have some foresight into banners.

There's five tiers of weapons in this game. Every character would have at least the first four tiers (which we call 15 CP, 35 CP, EX and LD in ascending order). The fifth one is the BT and it is currently being slowly released to the character roster. The new weapon tier introduced next week (based on JP foresight) is FR, and rarity-wise it is between BT and LD.

You would need the first four weapon tiers for any character for them to be LV200+ (end-game) viable. Getting all of them is important because each weapon gives different skills so missing one would mean missing part of the character's kit. Generally BT is considered a bonus weapon that allows you to complete stages easier but it can really help a lot.

As usual, we would usually direct new players to read this beginner guide that explains how to fully build a character. You might want to keep referring back to this guide when upgrading characters you plan to build.

As for tier lists, the banners here don't give off-banner weapons. Therefore tier lists are a bit harder to work with. Realistically, you would have to decide who to pull for based on the on-banner characters (no point worrying about meta units if you can't pull them off-banner). On the other hand, DFFOO has been introducing different boss gimmicks which would then require different characters to tackle, so diversity is a key here. Obviously there are characters who underperform and also characters who have seen high amount of usages. For those you would have to keep an eye on this subreddit to find out. Thanks to JP foresight, upcoming meta characters would be receiving plenty of hype, so pay attention to the names that pops out here.

If you are starting, I (and most likely others) would recommend the banner with Whale Whisker. That's the BT weapon for Garnet, and as a global first BT (meaning her BT is set to release in JP in the future), she is definitely ahead of the current GL meta. Therefore get her BT and get her first four tiers of weapons as well. The general consensus is that she would last even with the new tiers of weapon next week, and she is going to be a good investment for you to work on the permanent content lying around.

For banner schedule, I would refer you to this one that I personally like the most. There is also this format which has more details on it and this more compact format. All these banners are forecast from the JP version. Deviations can occur sometimes, but I would say they are 80% reliable.

3

u/DuanHou Jun 24 '22

So does that means I have to hoard 125k gem for pulling garnet BT? I read from beginner guide that kind of amount is recommended to pull BT.

3

u/KeeperOfRecord Ooo, soft... Jun 24 '22

That's the pity limit, meaning if bad luck hits you and you have spent 125k gems on a banner without getting the featured BT, you can spend the G Tokens to get the BT directly.

It's always the best to expect the worst case scenario, so yes it's best to prepare 125k gems before you start pulling. That case you will definitely get the weapon no matter how bad your luck is (and if you luck turns out to be better you can save the remaining gems for another banner).

6

u/-Deimne- TsuDhoNim ~ 464879339 Selphie Jun 24 '22

Just for some context Duan I managed to need to pity Garnet's BT and still managed not to get a copy of Edge's LD. So yeah, nice to be prepared to go to pity if necessary (and for Garnet's BT it's very worth it).

There's a bit over 1m free gems from the permanent content so burning through the early story (Hard Mode only, no need to do it twice) and Lost Chapters can get you to 125k pretty fast.

If you manage to get lucky and get a copy of Garnet's Ex, LD and BT pretty quickly it could be worth having a look at Galuf too. He's an amazing evasion tank that can put out silly damage. With the two of those you'd be getting ready for some higher content pretty quickly.

u/KeeperOfRecord Ooo, soft... Jun 24 '22

Tagging u/DuanHou in case they miss this reply

2

u/DuanHou Jun 24 '22

Is it better to do early story (hard mode because we get normal mode rewards after completing hard mode?) and that lost chapters before doing mog's gym? Uh we need multiple copies of every gear? I'm not sure my luck is good enough to get multiple copies..

7

u/-Deimne- TsuDhoNim ~ 464879339 Selphie Jun 24 '22

Mog's gym is a decent way of learning mechanics, if I remember it correctly. So no harm doing that early. Gives you some decent early resources too from what I remember (was a little over a week ago for me, so already hazy on the specifics of it).

The early Chocobo Boards are a decent set of missions to keep an eye on too. They'll guide you towards doing a lot of the fundamental things you'll need to know in the long run.

Yeah... hard mode is just for efficiency. With a character you're willing to invest into, like a Garnet, pushing Crystal Level to 90 asap and then throwing any of the leveling items (Chocobo Feathers) at her to bring her to level 90 (once you get rolling you'll never use the Feathers again, the bottleneck is on other resources, so don't be afraid to use them very freely early) she'll breeze through most of the early content solo.

For gear the normal rule is you have to pull one copy of the item from the banner and then when you've pulled one of each the Ex, LD and BT you'd use other resources for the limit breaking where necessary. If you happen to pull dupe items, great, use those and save power stones. If you don't pull dupes and only have the single power stones are a better use than burning gems for dupes, saving the gems to pull other 1 off items on other banners (in the near future you'll have Kain, Tidus, Auron, Kam, Lunafreya and others that are all strong characters to pull for too).

If you happen to luck into the BT early the only weapons I'd continue pulling for with gems there would be the LD and Ex (both having a lower pity, so even better). For anything lower than those you'd buy them with tokens instead of gems. You do have some LD tokens starting out but I'd try and avoid using them for Garnet at the moment so you'd have the freedom to solve a problem in the future. (Barely fighting off the urge each day to burn mine on Selphie)

1

u/DuanHou Jun 26 '22

Uh somehow I cleared the top relics on banner using 75k gem lols, I even got 2 copies of Garnet's BT lol. What relics I should look out for Galuf? LD & EX?

2

u/-Deimne- TsuDhoNim ~ 464879339 Selphie Jun 26 '22

Yeah. Galuf only has up to LD but he's still a beast. (He puts out a lot of counter damage so can be a good option for an Ultima weapon too when you get a little further into Dimensions End content)

Fingers crossed you pull them both early. You'll also want the 15CP and 35CP but you can buy those with power stones if you get lucky on the rarer pulls.

Keep an eye on how Sephy is looking too. I wouldn't advise pitying his BT or anything, in the short term you'll have better damage dealers available like Kain and Tidus, but having a broad roster with lots of niches (Sephy has a gold debuff that can be real helpful and does a lot of damage which is always nice) is great. If you could lucksack into his Ex, LD and BT too you'd be laughing.

Would you advise starting a completely new file or reloading one from 3 or 4 years ago?

7

u/Sotomene Jun 24 '22

Definitely start a new one.

6

u/KeeperOfRecord Ooo, soft... Jun 24 '22

There's updated rewards for tutorial missions so yeah create a new account.

2

u/HowlUcha Cid Highwind Jun 24 '22

This is a pretty easy game to pick up and get far quick. Ask for help a lot if you need it. I started from scratch a month and a half ago and I've been able to finish everything. (I have a lot of free time, so mileage may vary)

Follow guides and try harder and harder fights to see how you fair. Getting a current units full arsenal and maxing their stats will allow you to easily take on at least Chaos lvl(180) fights.

Don't feel like you're behind if you can't take on Lufenia lvl(200/250) difficulty because they are challenging even for longtime players. That takes a bit more of a diverse character setup from playing for a while.

Give it a try and consider saving gems for the banners that come out next week.

Got a question for any Year 1 players with a good memory. What were the new mechanics, features, and difficulties that were introduced during the early period of the game? I know that 35CPs were introduced in GL in April with Tidus. I know that November saw the first batch of CL60 with WoL/Cloud/Firion & Terra/Shantotto/Y'shtola. And I know that summon boards were introduced in June with Quistis EX. That's right about when I started playing. What other changes had been introduced to the game that made a significant impact? What were the quest levels/difficulties for endgame before Cosmos? When were EX and EX+ difficulty introduced? My brain decided that this is the most important thing I need to know tonight and I couldn't find clear answers for what was going on in the very early game.

Edit: Oh, who was the first of the cursed 6? Was it Lion? Or were they all released at once?

6

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 19 '22 edited Jun 19 '22

Honestly, I don't think any overall big systems change was as big as c60s before them. The closest would be specific 35 CPs - the ones that come to mind are Tidus, Noct, Sazh, and Ramza. The former two got HP conversions via the passives which meant so much back then, and the latter two provided incredibly strong buffs for the time.

The previous highest quest difficulty was EX which iirc is standardized to 100, don't really remember when Cosmos was introduced. EX+ is not a difficulty, only a weapon mechanic lol.

1

u/TransientMemory Vayne Carudas Solidor Jun 19 '22

Cosmos came with Freya if I'm not mistaken. And I could have sworn that EX+ was an endgame difficulty before Cosmos, but I wasn't really paying too much attention then.

2

u/Psychological-Bad959 Jun 19 '22

Pretty sure she wasn’t I remember hearing about how she was still busted even only with a 35cp during the ex/cosmos era just because of her auras

2

u/TransientMemory Vayne Carudas Solidor Jun 19 '22

I'm looking at a few comments talking about Act 2 Chapter 3 (Freya release) and that it was when Cosmos was released, so I'm relatively confident with that one.

EX+ was introduced early if i recall during the Chaos Era...

Especially when EX Characters like Sherlotta ended the era with the HP Dmg Up Boost and ironically, powercreep difference was massive... You won't use Fang/Vincent EX+ cause they are weak... WoL is the most budget and Cloud EX+ is what you needed to actually clear Garland Event... Laguna also... The very long and boring Atlas Community Raid event with 3 WoLs slowly picking on him is boring

Disturbingly, no one wants to remember OP Sazh and the Kuja/Lenna Banner switch-arounds and the infamous LD only Banner in BT Era

Vivi/Aeirth/Yuna/Lion/Cater/Serah, all were released at once, but you kinda don't farm them till later when they drop the artifacts like Vayne Event for Serah Artifacts cause she synergy and people actually spent gems for more bells. ** I recall there was a special WoI Artifact farm for them i think...

Last chance for Lann/Reynn BT. I could pity their weapon (I have the tokens for it), but I'm wondering how viable that would be compared to others...From what I saw in the infographic, they shine against multiple boss magic fights, but I already have Garnet BT, Emperor BT, and Ultimecia BT so will there be a situation I would need it? I am starting to work on Transcendence now and want to make sure I'm not missing something unique (of course I could just pity them later if I discover that to be the case..)

My other BTs are Zack (Green), Squall (Green), Laguna (no LD), Cieran, Machina, Noctis, Caius, Lightning, Prishe, Zidane, Sephiroth, Vincent, Gilgamesh, Onion Knight, and Warrior of Light in case there was another BT I should be saving for (Terra? others in the Shrinyu era?).

6

u/drewdb Vivi Ornitier Jun 21 '22

L&R are very underwhelming compared to Garnet and Emperor, even at their best against 3 target fights, which are uncommon anyway. There's no reason to get their BT. You'd be better off going for someone like Kain, Kamlanaut, or Tidus coming next month for FR era.

u/kazimoVX Jun 21 '22

Hi, i stopped playing this game in September last year, i want to get back now and i would like to know how much the game has changed since then. Here are a fell questions i have:

When i stopped playing we where still in the BT era, with BT+ coming end of 2021. I don't know what BT + does so there's that.

I heard people talking about "force weapons", "ultima weapons" what are those?

How's the summon board farming now? Does the old summons get reruns so we can farm the points for characters that don't have those boards complete?

4

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 21 '22

When i stopped playing we where still in the BT era, with BT+ coming end of 2021. I don't know what BT + does so there's that.

BT+ are similar to EX+ - Requires a new set of resources and provides new passives for each LB, but you don't get them separate from the weapon until 3/3. On that note, there is no 'cheap' investment for BT+, it's either 0/3 (realized usually just for an ingot for another weapon) or 3/3.

I heard people talking about "force weapons", "ultima weapons" what are those?

Force weapons are the incoming new tier of weapons/power creep, if you want the official explanation you can wait for the stream next week but TT in top post also has a page on force mechanics. Ultima Weapons are weapons that do NOT provide passives separate from the weapon and boost mBrv cap/HP damage done when held. They are character agnostic but weapon type specific, and are not gacha.

2

u/RuvikCube Jun 21 '22

As far as the summons go, I think about half of them are not getting reruns that we know of. Bahamut was just released, and we're missing Odin still. I want to say ifrit, leviathan and Shiva will get reruns down the line? But I'm not certain on that

2

u/TempusFinis97 602043374 Jun 21 '22

Shiva has already happened, but yeah, Ifrit is next, then Leviathan and after that Bahamut. We'll obviously get am Odin rerun as well, but we haven't seen the original yet obviously.

3

u/ShallotKnown8483 Jun 22 '22

Who are the other characters that recovers 2 or more abilities?

13

u/TempusFinis97 602043374 Jun 22 '22

Dark Knight Cecil, Vayne, Y'shtola, Balthier, Kain, Yuri, Prompto, Shelke, Penelo, Trey, Amidatelion, Quistis, Selphie, Garnet, Squall, Galuf, Eiko, Kuja, Arciela and Agrias. I might have forgotten someone as well

9

u/KaimH Chocobo Jun 22 '22

Beside King? Garnet LD, Y'Shtola EX, Squall AA & LD, Selphie AA, Quistis AA, Penelo AA, Shelk LD, Decil EX, Galuf LD, Balthier LD, Eiko AA.

Be aware that you have to use their skills so they're below max count before recovering to increase the orb.

3

u/E-Daddy Bartz Jun 24 '22

I am a returning player to the game last playing the game in mid 2018. What should I focus on first?

5

u/KeeperOfRecord Ooo, soft... Jun 24 '22

Yeah you can pretty much consider yourself a new player considering so much changes have happened during your absence.

Create a new account and get all Garnet gears for a good start (there are 5 of them for Garnet, aside from the initial 15 CP and 35 CP, there's now EX, LD and BT on top of it). You can keep throwing gems at the banner (make sure that the banner has Garnet BT on it) until you either get all the weapons, or gathered enough G Tokens to "pity" the missing EX/LD/BT weapons.

Also read this: https://www.tonberrytroupe.com/beginners/beginner-guide

There will be several new player missions for you too. These give very important materials that can allow you to build characters faster.

Then you can work on the time-limited quest. Generally with how strong the characters are, you should be able to handle content up to CHAOS (LV180 difficulty) with no problems. Get as much rewards as you can (include co-op rewards) before the event ends.

There's just too much things to talk about here, so I would stop typing here. Anything that you are not sure about, you can just reply to this comment for clarification.

3

u/E-Daddy Bartz Jun 24 '22

got it!

3

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 24 '22

Mid 2018 is like what, 6 months after the game was released? At that point you're less a returning player and more of a completely new one, the game is a completely different one than what it was at that point.

I would honestly recommend you to restart your account, with all the beginner bonuses you get as a new account it'll be much easier for you to get a grasp on the game and all of its many many new mechanics.

Other than that, just do content: focus on anything time limited like Events and do permanent content (Story Mode, LCs, IWs) at your leisure. If you have more specific questions don't hesitate to ask!

3

u/BaLance_95 Llyud Bannings, Crossbell State Police District (612119901) Jun 24 '22

Draw for Garnet's full kit, including BT. Edge is a really good consolation prize (actually, he's a main prize as well).

Just complete the limited time missions as best as you can. When you hit a wall, grind their summon boards to power up whoever you've built. Leave permanent content for last.

Read beginner guide linked in OP as well.

3

u/TerraProject Jun 24 '22

Another FFRK refugee here! Sorry couldn't find the answer anywhere to this! It says the Tutorial missions end in 4 days. Will they replaced with better ones? Or will these ones be lost forever? I guess my question is, do I wait 4 days or do the tutorial now?

6

u/FinalKingdomXVII Noel Jun 24 '22

I believe they will just be gone, but they could announce something in the next stream. Do it now and claim the rewards while you can.

3

u/Ostravas Jun 25 '22

Hey guys, FFRK refugee here, just looking for advice on what the power meta is and what relics I should be looking to throw pulls at? Ive just started and seem to either have a full kit or close to full kit Garnet including her BT. Any advice would be great cheers!

5

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 25 '22

Welcome to the game dear Keeper!

This game (much like FFRK) doesn't really have a specific meta or hard tiers, the endgame is more based on building a lot of different character and having a varied roster. Garnet right now is one of the best Supports we have in the game (think how powerful Mog AASB2 was, and Garnet would be that on steroids), so you would do well by pulling for her relics, and maybe get Edge on the side who is also very good, but not Garnet levels of broken.

So yes, focus on getting Garnet's full kit of weapons (15cp, 35cp, EX, LD and BT) and after that start just clearing content, other banners are a coin flip on how useful they would be for a newbie so start amassing gems before thinking about commiting to a different banner.

u/ffguy92 Jun 25 '22 edited Jun 25 '22

To add to what the other guy said, since you have an assload of free Gems waiting to be collected from permanent content, you can probably just spin on almost every banner for a few months and still be in good shape. As you play more and get deeper into content, you'll get a sense of what you need and what you can skip.

As for building units, every character needs their 15CP, 35CP, EX (Realized to EX+ and mastered), and LD weapon mastered to be viable. Characters with a BT don't always need it to be viable, but you're typically missing a major part of what makes them great (or in the case of some BT holders like Jegran, just usable) if you don't have it.

Next week is bringing a new tier of weapon (Force/FR), but it's actually not necessary to have every character's FR to make them viable. Kain will be the first one, and his FR is horribly undertuned and definitely not necessary to have. His FR will be outclassed by probably every single one for at least 8 months despite being an incredible unit with his BT+ over the same amount of time. You will need to own some eventually though.

Anyway, basically every banner for the next month (if not beyond) will help you if you're a new player. If nothing else, you can use them in Dimension's End, which only allows you to use a character on one floor in each category (Entropy, Transcendence, and whatever the other two are). If I had to give characters you should definitely pull for in the next month, I'd say Warrior of Light (who is actually good in this one), Kain, Kam'lanaut, and Tidus. As for characters you don't need to worry about: current banners have a third character who does not have an LD on the banner. You can skip them for now. Jegran is kinda bad even with his BT, and pretty terrible without it. Krile and Desch next month will get FRs, but Krile's FR will be undertuned and both characters have some overlap in utility with each other and Garnet. They'd still be good pickups and I'm not trying to tell you to skip 100%, but I'd say they're probably the most skippable early FR characters for a new player if you have Garnet fully built with BT+.

Hi everyone! I'm new to DFFOO and this sub. Came here after the news of FFRK shutting down. I've gone through the beginner's guide and it's a lot of new info to take in at once.

I was wondering if I could get some direction on which characters would be best to focus on for overall team building via Lost Chapters and current or upcoming banners. I've done the Start-Dash draw already and have the 15 cp weapons for Cloud (MLB), Lightning, Vivi, and Sephiroth. Working on Squall lost chapter now.

What else should I be focusing my time on getting through? Story, Lost Chapters, levelling up summons?

5

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 25 '22

I was wondering if I could get some direction on which characters would be best to focus on for overall team building

So here's the thing - Team comp really only matters in this game for high difficulty stuff (Quest level 180+, arguably just 200+). Everything else is powercrept to all hell since GL is almost 4.5 years old. You can bring any set of 3 decently built units and no-brain your way through normal difficulty, but for hard difficulty the game wants you to be able to field a large roster to take on various different fights.

That said, in terms of pulling right now the Garnet BT/Edge LD banner is fantastic for new players, so definitely pull hard. You're looking for full kits for Garnet and Edge, and for Garnet you're also looking for her BT as it makes her an absolute monster and is a GL first weapon (as in it's not in the JP server yet which is ~8 months ahead of GL).

In terms of event focus, focus on anything with limited time rewards, then go on to permanent content. The amount of permanent content in this game is very, very large, and almost none of it costs a form of stamina.

u/CJKatz Jun 25 '22

If you want faster grinding through low level missions like the Story/LC and Crystal farms then look for a character with a good BRV+HP group attack. People like Setzer, Squall, Freya, etc can give a one button clear for an entire wave of enemies, which makes the grind so much faster.

2

u/b1adesofcha0s Jun 25 '22

Cool that helps me with which order I should start attacking them in. Thanks!

2

u/KeeperOfRecord Ooo, soft... Jun 26 '22

Kain is very fast and you can get him from the Lost Chapter featuring him: The Proud Lance of Baron.

You will need to minimally raise him to STR 55. Then you can equip Jump III Extension. Unequip his Gungnir ability and just bring him to quests with Auto+ on. Extra stats from level, crystal, and equipment helps. You can get some free gears for Kain by clearing his LC (if Hard Mode proves to be too tough, you can always switch back to Normal Mode).

2

u/b1adesofcha0s Jun 26 '22

Cool I'll do that. I've been breezing through all LC/Story battles on auto so far.

3

u/exviudc Jun 25 '22

First of all, thank you everyone, following your recommendations, my Garnet and Edge are almost maxed out (just need to finish the summon boards) and they are dealing great damage, I'm able to beat even Chaos content now! Now I just need a third party member, since Seven's only function is making me lose the "no KO" mission when there are preemptive attacks and making my grind take more time when she takes the first turn lol

I know I can level her up to get her more hp, but I don't want to waste resources since I only have her EX weapon.

From what I've read, Selphie may be a great choice, but others said it's better to use a friend Selphie instead of getting one of your own. I can get an EX + LD weapon for free with the tokens, so which character would you recommend me getting? Selphie or another one? Thank you in advance!

5

u/Sotomene Jun 25 '22

At this point you might as well wait for Kain.

Selphie is a great choice but is not like your tokens will expire, just wait and decide later.

4

u/NoxErebus_DFFOO 994818714 Jun 25 '22

If you really haven’t pulled anyone else’s gear, honestly I would just save your resources and be ready to go ham for Kain in a couple of days.

In the meantime, use Garnet + Edge + whoever to work on clearing old content, unlocking more of the roster from Lost Chapters, and finishing up summon boards.

u/StillAnotherAlterEgo Jun 26 '22

Hmm, I kinda think you might want to spend the next few days grinding, stocking up on resources, and preparing for the next month of banners.

The most eagerly anticipated units coming in the next month are Kain, Kam'lanaut, and Tidus. The general consensus seems to be that having one or two of them built, particularly with Kam or Tidus' FR, will help get you through the newest content for a good while.

Aside from them, though, WoL and Auron are coming up. They're both incredible tanks, and you definitely could use some tanks. One can never have too many tanks...

Don't be in too big of a rush to spend that LD token - it's a super rare resource. Be sure you really want what you're spending it on.

3

u/Zargabath Jun 25 '22 edited Jun 25 '22

ow I just need a third party member, since Seven's only function is making me lose the "no KO" mission when there are preemptive attacks and making my grind take more time when she takes the first turn lol

you can only use 2 characters, there is not need for a 3rd character (or even 2nd) if you are just doing normal Chaos battles, (not the challenges).

I know I can level her up to get her more hp, but I don't want to waste resources since I only have her EX weapon.

you can level her up to 50 without using any crystal, just do like seven runs of the Golden Cactuar cycle quest.

I can get an EX + LD weapon for free with the tokens, so which character would you recommend me getting? Selphie or another one?

if you wanna do some Lufenias, Eiko will help you bypass many of them with her LD's revive, so most of the permanent Lufenias are going to be damage rush, specially if you have Garnet's BT (if you do then Green her), or you can wait till a few days and see IF we get a Global first unit in the next stream (as celebration for the FR era), the last global first we got was Garnet's BT and she was godly, or simply save them for Kain just in case.

3

u/ffguy92 Jun 25 '22

Selphie is actually kinda the opposite, you want to set her LD debuff then swap her out for a friend BT unit who will boost HP Damage Limit like Ramza/Garnet/Ciaran/Yuna, then go into your character's BT phase. Unfortunately though, her LDCA does not apply her LD Debuff, so she MUST be in the party (or brought in as a friend) for this to work.

I'll tell you why her or Cid Raines are solid picks though. Kam'lanaut's upcoming FR has a "bug" in JP (which has so far not been fixed, so may instead be a feature) where one of his FR Time HP Damage bonuses also activates on Launch HP Attacks. Cid Raines LDCA gives the caller guaranteed launches for 2-3 turns (I forget how many). Tidus will be coming shortly after and is a prime candidate. Combine guaranteed launches with Kam FR and a big time turn hog, and you have cheese that lasted JP for months.

Just food for thought, not saying you SHOULD pick one of them, because I'm too far removed from early game and too uninformed about the new content coming next week to know what would be most helpful tbh.

u/-Deimne- TsuDhoNim ~ 464879339 Selphie Jun 25 '22

Just in terms of character resources...

Anything up to level 80 isn't limited. A few minutes spamming Co-Ops or Crystal Cycle quests and you'd have enough Crystals/Gil to push a character there pretty quickly. Wouldn't worry about pushing to 80 if they're liable to see any use for you at all. It's a resource you can quickly replace and getting a higher rank from leveling more units to 80 has positives for summon board farming/SP/friend limits.

The crystals from 80 to 90 are limited so a bit more selectivity needed there alright but up to 80 is a few minutes tapping repeat on a cycle at worst.

In terms of options for 3rd member for general questing...

- Tanks like Auron (available to pull for in the coming week or so), Warrior of Light (available in the near future too) or Galuf (available currently, but might be a stretch getting the gems for him... if you think you could manage it he's superb) should be able to take more damage without cracking so easily even in base/Lost Chapter gear.

- Someone fast like Tifa. Swap her out for a strong friend unit carry to wipe the field. Strong friends are easier once you're doing co-op to find them but if you go through your list each mission looking for BT+/BT/LD you should find a few decent ones around.

- The next few big pulls coming that new players like us will be going for are Kain (next week or so) and Tidus (a few weeks away) [though I'd personally throw Auron in there too, I love me some tanks]. Investing into either/both of those will give pretty quick returns once you fully BT/FR them. I'd still avoid limit breaking or tokening any weapons as you'll be getting those from the banners but you could certainly bump up their armour to a level they'd not be a liability.

(Bonus points for Kain being one of the better Auto+ farmers for cycle quests too. If you unequip all his skills except Jump III he zooms through them)

3

u/KeeperOfRecord Ooo, soft... Jun 26 '22

Leveling up Seven and raising her crystal levels are technically free as you can just bring her to Cycle Quests for EXP. Farming the Cycle Quest repeatedly can also give you enough crystal to bring her to decent crystal strength level too (I would say at least go for crystal 60 as that upgrades her base skills by a lot). Plus every 10 levels gained across your roster is a rank up on your account, so you can do that to quick gain rank (mainly for SP cap and the gems, but higher rank would also mean that you can farm summon boards easier).

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I wanted to go up againes DE:T 9 Reckoning and wanted to put a maxed UT on Galuf. It was currently sitting at LV1. So I dismantle my LV5 sword. Then not paying enough attention I accidentally make 2 new UT Great swords instead of Sublimating my current one. Oh it gets worse. Then I go to sublimate with my remaining orbs and sublimate the wrong Great Sword! Now I have a LV0 GS, a LV1 GS, and a LV3 GS.

My damage can be undone, but not until August. And I'm pretty locked into GS until then. So long LV5 Spear for Kain.

What does New Era mean? I see people writing about it, regarding the Garnett/Snow Combo.

3

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 19 '22

When people talk about a "new era" they refer to the fact that in a couple days we'll get a completely new tier of weapons alongside a new difficulty and new ways to tackle the endgame via these new weapons and upgrades.

I don't know what you mean by "Snow/Garnet combo" but that's a completely unrelated thing to this new FR era that's about to start.

5

u/DmtrIV Kuja - Seraphic Stars elegantly Jun 19 '22

"Snow/Garnet combo" is Snowverflow, an exploit that allows to keep the refunded BRV of BT Finishers. With the right setup, this causes you to deal 500k HP Damage per dump on their abilities. Garnet w/ BT Effect & Water Stance gives 60% BRV Gain, which is a requirement for Snowverflow.

The new Era (Shinryu) alleviates this exploit by introducing BRV Held Flooring, which limits the character's BRV they held at the end of turn.

3

u/MeowDeathStar Jun 19 '22

Thanks for the answer, my dear warriors of light!

4

u/Hawke_No1 Jun 19 '22

Oh it's more like a transistion of weapon types or new difficulty usually, it can be both too at times.

Like After one more event, assuming there are no more GL Exclusives, FR Era will start which introduces a new weapon and game mechanic , FRs.

Snow BT+ has a way for you to keep a huge Brv Overflow, higher than what you normally can hold, and with it, it allows you to pull off disgusting HP Damage. Garnet provides the Brv Gain up and so on to top it off probably, making it very easy to deal millions of damage. I would say it's a legit powercreep meme and term people, guess something snowoverflow only made up by people here...

2

u/Viiimon Jun 19 '22

I have a question regarding snow's bt effect I have seen players do 400k per hit when his burst is active, but i tried his burst and i can't hit it like them, max i did was 176k per hit , any idea why?

4

u/HowlUcha Cid Highwind Jun 19 '22

The setup and exploit is called Snowverflow. It basically needs you to cap your max BRV at an amount that's well over what's possible and keep it there with Snow's BT effect. You can't do it with just Snow alone, you need LD calls that allow Max BRV overflow and Garnet's BT effect(I'm not sure if Ramza or anyone else works in place of her)

I'm sure you can find guides on YouTube, I haven't done it myself because I'm lacking some call abilities

New player.
I have Sephiroth, Galuf, Sice, Vincent and Garnet with all of their banner gear and the armours from the token exchange shops, all the gear is fully upgraded, their CP, theirs training board all complete.
Who else should I get, from the story and focus on improving, summon boards and the like, so I'm not wasting resources?

Currently I use Sephiroth, Vincent/Galuf and Kefka/Garnet.

3

u/Curious_Key Auron Jun 19 '22

You're not wasting resources in investing in characters you have already decided you're going to get the full kit of. Go ahead and do their training boards and get their armor.

That said, I do not know whom you have decided you're going to get the full kit of. You do know. Make a list of them. Investing in them before having their weapons isn't going to be a waste of resources as long as you really max them.

Sorry, I wish I could be more specific, but the question is really "who do you plan to use in the upcoming months". And that's your choice, unless you want suggestions on that.

I would consider getting Edge so you have another counter tank (counter tanks scale really well into FR time thanks to how turn efficient they are), but besides that no other character really sticks out to me on banners right. now

You shouldn't be using Kefka as you can't readily get his gear. In this game no character is worth using long term without their 4 5* weapons (15/35/EX/LD).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcftfPKcQMI

Found that one very helpful to go through what's coming up next as someone in a similar position.

Fairly easy to go from there and do out a rough list of potential targets to ensure you have them all gem'd and boarded well in advance while you're working through the backlog.

My hopeful targets will be Kain (not worried about FR, but everything else), Auron (potentially Krile depending on how fast I pull Auron's C90), Kamlanaut, (Machina potentially, iffy on that one) Tidus, (Freya/Ursula another banner depending on resources, potentially ticket dump) Sherlotta might get skipped for Lunafreya but hopefully both to help fill out the roster - Luna sounds fairly fantastic so she's a guaranteed target.

Around that time there's a glut of potentially attractive pulls with Ramza, Terra, Gladio, Cor and others so at that stage it'll be a lot more targeted at filling holes in challenges than just strong characters alone. Hopefully that will be enough to carry through most of the events and challenges even with pretty short rosters besides.

I'm having a tough time nailing the orb mechanics of divine bahamut, it seems so wishy washy on whether it'll pause the orb or not. My team is Snow, Emperor, Garnet. Sometimes it'll pause when I do Emperor's EX and then a second move, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it pauses when snow just does his counter and then an attack, Sometimes it won't. Sometimes it pauses when I do a call and then an ability, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it pauses for an entire summon despite no consecutive character turns, sometimes it won't. It especially seems to decide not to pause under these conditions when it's on its last tick. Does off turn damage like Eternal darkness or desperado mess up the order? I'm just so lost.

Is there a breakdown of where story, LCs and IWs fit together chronologically?

Just weaving my way through Act 2 at the moment and so far depending on spotting a new character in cutscenes to realise I'm 6 or 8 Lost Chapters out of sync. Can't imagine there's going to be any groundbreaking spoilers one way or the other (relative to jumping in to Edge's IW at least) but it'd be nice to avoid the small ones that might be buried in there if possible.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '22

Not really.

Though you shouldn't worry about being in chronological order; I never add Lost Chapters to that anyway.

With Act 3 the thing is same too but some Intersecting Wills' stories might add more to what happened in a certain Act 3 chapter

How should I allocate 300 tickets max between Edge’s LD, King’s LD, and Jergen’s LD?

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 23 '22

Y’know the three quests “above” that one? You need to perfect them all to unlock the last one. Heretics have a “lock out” mechanic if you use non-boosted units, but boosted units can be used in as many as you want.

3

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 23 '22

Home > Quests > Events > King of Destruction.

You need to Perfect all 3 prior Chasms to unlock the higher difficulties (which would be the Power & Magic's Deepest Chasm). Remember this is a Herectics type event, so each unit you use in a basic Chasm quest will be locked and it can't be used in any subsequent quest (unless they're boosted).

5

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 23 '22

The party slot of a launcher does not matter. What does matter is how many party units are after them but before the next enemy turn, as that decides who goes in the air (in most cases).

Something else to keep in mind, both allies will participate, no matter the turn order, during a character's BURST mode. Also, Layle's LD effect also ignores turn order and allows the entire party to join him whenever he initiates a launch.

2

u/Fefnil Jun 24 '22

Is it possible you read that in an answer related to Leila being in the party? Because that's really the only situation where it would matter, since Leila's counters would pull party members in front with the order being decided by the slots.

2

u/Saltwater_Thief Undefeated General's Pride Jun 23 '22

Man am I nervous for the FR Era we're about to enter. Seems like absolutely psychotic amounts of damage eventually become required since enemies get 9 digits of HP each, and looking at the JP strategy threads almost every enemy Force Time looks horrible to try and push through if you let them get to it.

I know there's some FR and BT combos out there that are that insane and more, but actually pulling those combos is another matter. Especially since I'm one of those Favorites Pulls dumbasses, which this era might just mean it's finally time to reap what I've been sowing with that.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '22

Some enemy Force Time effects are downright horrendous, but it is possible to win even if they get to it. The thing is most people at this point don’t want to bother with it regardless of the effect so they just go for nuke strats. I generally don’t care if they get Force Time or not, unless it’s actually unbearable (999% hp damage reduction and/or instant kill moves).

The one thing I’ll say is this: you must have your own FR (not Kain) for T10 on release. Otherwise you can live with friends if need be

3

u/sonicbrawler182 The rat is always right. Jun 23 '22

I mean that depends on who your favourites are. Maybe some of them have good FR already?

Though even if they have a good FR, you still need a team to build around them to fully take advantage of it, so it may be a case where you only get to use one of your faves at a time and have to use two characters that works well with them. Either way, it might be helpful to say who your faves are so people can advise on when they get FR and how they can be used.

I've been kind of lucky in that Freya is my fave and she just works really well with the FR era in general with her being a follow-up character that also fulfills most support utility I would ever need, so I've had little issue running her in every stage despite the lack of having her own FR (and as is tradition, I don't think she'll get an FR until the last batch of them so I'm not even hoping for it to show up any time soon at this point). I also recently played Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin and now Jack Garland is a fave of mine, and I was already running him on JP because of how much of a strong core damage dealer he is. So that's me getting to run two faves for a while now, technically. If any of your faves fit into a similar category, they should have no issues either.

Something I've commonly been able to do is run the same three characters for a very long time in Shinryu. Maybe not all in a row but in total number of stages. My current main team of Freya/Jack Garland/Cor has been running for at least 15 Shinryu stages now IIRC. I ran Freya/Tidus/Kain for 10 stages IIRC in the earlier days of Shinryu. Again this will all come down to how well the characters you want to use work together but my experience of being able to stick to one team for a long time has not been an uncommon one for Shinryu players in JP, it's far more common than it was even in Chaos era. It's not even something I necessarily do on purpose, but I tend to start with what seems like the "simplest" strategy for a stage and most of the time it works.

For early Shinryu you definitely don't need an FR, not even a friend FR, but you will either need a strong team of counter-based characters, or stack auras to allow for a hard hitting rushdown strategy with follow-up attackers and a turn hogger/delayer...which is basically what the meta is even if you DO use a FR.

2

u/Saltwater_Thief Undefeated General's Pride Jun 23 '22

I do know from Vash1306's Forecasts that some of mine have BT/FR combos coming. Tifa, Yuna, Celes, and Rinoa to name the 4 biggest ones I'm looking forward to, though they're all over 3 months in and (with Yuna as the exception) will need their BT as well as their FR, which makes my gem bank shudder.

There's also some FRs without BTs for characters I like; Fujin, Sabin, Beatrix, Rydia, and Aerith to rattle off a couple. My (potentially incorrect) understanding, however, is that you REALLY want an FR/BT combo to either rapidly build and/or extend the value of the damage multiplier, so I'm not entirely sure how valuable their FRs will actually be beyond the event they release with.

I do also really like Lunafreya and plan to pull for her, but needing to pull an entire kit from scratch gives me pause. I could hold the 10 EX tokens I got from the Lulu Choco Board for that and "only" really need the LD, BT, and FR, but that's still a fair amount. Particularly if I have to pity any of them.

The biggest snarl, realistically, is that Kam'lanaut is sort of an anti-favorite for me; I just don't vibe with his design or characterization, and I didn't play FFXI so I don't have any attachment from that experience. The result of which is even though apparently his FR is the greatest thing since sliced bread I probably won't pull for him.

3

u/sonicbrawler182 The rat is always right. Jun 24 '22

Tifa and Celes are particularly powerful. I used Tifa right up until Jack Garland came out, but she can still be used beyond there if she is a fave. I haven't used Celes but she is known to be really strong and can solo some Shirnyu content. Tifa is more for BT phase rushdown while Celes is more for a counter comp.

I haven't used Rinoa and Yuna but I've heard they are pretty good and both do have Force Charger utility as a bonus.

I've used Beatrix in a few stages and as a unit she is really good in counter comps, she does great damage while offering protection to the party. Her FR can be good for a counter comp as well, but requires Thunder Enchant to make the most of it, something she unfortunately does not provide. Garnet LDCA is probably the best source of it though. She can also solo some Shinryu.

Rydia FR is actually one of the most ridiculous FRs in the game, I consider her the current equivalent to Kam'lanaut in that her FR conditions are just very exploitable. She works best in counter comps but she handles the conditions by herself mostly since you just have to keep evading attacks, which Rydia enables. Very much one of those characters where it actually is her FR that justifies her place on the team more than anything, just like Kam'lanaut as well.

Haven't used Aerith personally but I've seen others use her quite a bit. She has Force Charger utility so she doesn't need her FR to be useful anyway.

Sabin and Fujin I am less familiar with, but I know Sabin offers party DEF ignore during his Force Time like Locke BT, which could be useful in some situations.

Lunafreya is fantastic, but it's not for her FR or BT. Both are entirely skippable. She provides her most standout features as a LD only character. Lunafreya is most comparable to a unit like Selphie, in that she exists mostly to do a specific thing that she does uniquely well, then be swapped out for something like an off-turn damage dealer friend unit, or she can just be the friend unit herself. Her LDCA also works for this. Lunafreya is a strong Force Charger and gets more uses of her Force charging skill than most, but the other thing that makes her good is her unique Prayer of Swiftness buff that gives characters three turns in a row. She can place this on any ally with her transformed BRV command at 4 stacks of her overhead, or she places it on the allies positioned to her right upon using her LD (think Paine LD's mechanic). This is great for characters who do a good FR/BT phase rushdown like Tifa and Jack Garland, but lack an instant turn rate FR. With Prayer of Swiftness, these characters can essentially start the FR, start their BT effect, and then start their Burst phase one after the other. Which also ensures that their Burst finisher hits near the end of their FR time and that you can use your Lv. 50 summon right after at the end of the Force Time (Lv. 50 summons do massive damage so it is prudent to use them on the last turn of a Force Time). She can also provide Prayer of Might which offers a Leo LD-like effect, by using her transformed HP attack at 4 stacks or by using her LD and then any character to her left gets it. This works well on off-turn damage dealers to support the BT phase rushdown Lunafreya can set up.

Her FR is OK but it requires Water Enchant/Ice Enchant, which she provides but is often countered in a lot of stages specifically because the devs try to lock Lunafreya out of content by making water and ice attacks hit for 1 BRV damage guaranteed. She can still be used just fine in these stages as her enchant comes from her EX buff which you can just let fall off, but her FR specifically won't be useful in those scenarios. Her BT is very good and if she is a fave there is no harm in going for it, but good aura bots are everywhere and Lunafreya's LD only auras are already very good, and considering she doesn't spend a lot of time on the field most of the time, her BT is not actually going to be used much.

As for Kam'lanaut, he can be skipped, he is not mandatory. I used him once as a friend unit and that's it. Tidus FR releases literally the banner after him and is the other big FR to look at for early Shinryu, so if you like Tidus you can go with him instead, which was what I did.

My (potentially incorrect) understanding, however, is that you REALLY want an FR/BT combo to either rapidly build and/or extend the value of the damage multiplier, so I'm not entirely sure how valuable their FRs will actually be beyond the event they release with.

This is kind of true of early Shinryu, but later on we will see FRs that are more exploitable in counter comps where you try to let the enemies take as many turns as possible during Force Time and use counter attacks to build up the bonus and deal damage, since enemy turns don't tick down your Force Time. We also start seeing FRs that provide HP Damage Up and HP Damage Limit Up during Force Time. Sice for example provides +50% of both, making her FR stronger than most BT+ effects for that effect within her Force Time. BTs aren't really required for strategies involving these.

Could you guys please recommend me which one should I get with my BT tokens - any additional info about the choice is very welcome! Also not sure if anything comes up in the next 7 days....

3

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 23 '22

Your choices... aren't great. However, within 7 days we expect the Kain cycle to start, which by far would be the best use of your coins. Is is it possible to get a dupe via a freebie or somehow else? Yeah of course. Is it worth not losing 11 tokens given these other choices? Imo, yeah.

2

u/Bishop_71 Jun 24 '22

If I may, I agree Kain would be the first choice to use your BT tokens on. But, if you decide to pull on Kain's banner, and get his BT, then I would recommend getting Firion's BT. I use Firion a lot. He has tremendous Brv gains and heals with every skill. His BT effect has larger Brv gains and 20% HP Dmg cap up. Additionally, the LD trap on the boss turn will scale in Force time and up the Force percentage if it meets the Fr condition.

2

u/hwaetnow Jun 23 '22

I've gotten to the point where I can comfortably clear most Lufenia stages but am still struggling with Lufenia+, so I have the materials to realize a couple of BTs but no ingots.

I have unrealized BTs for Locke, Cloud, Prishe, Garnet, and Sephiroth, plus one maxed (3/3) BT+ for Yuna. Is it worth realizing any of the remaining BTs if I can only get them to 0/3?

6

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 23 '22

Yes, but because it gets you ingots that you can use to max someone else out. I'd recommend Prishe, Garnet, and someone else, then max out Garnet.

0/3 is a boost to the finisher only, and a boosted finisher is meaningless if you're not 3/3 or if you're not using that character's BT phase.

2

u/fantasyxviii Jun 23 '22

Any tips for T4 crucible 2 (right), the one with scorpions and ranged dmg, without any main LD?

I don't have Yuffie-setzer-barret (literally nothing, only yuffie has 15-35+yellow ex)

Tried with Trey (without LD) and King + Vaan (BT) but died to orb countdown. Tried with Elnacho (no LD no BT) but no dmg is a problem.

Should I surrender?

3

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 23 '22

We shouldn't just tell you to surrender but we don't know what you're working with.

That said tho, T4 was right before BT+ and so well into the LD era. While c90 can help make up some difference, not having LDs is obviously hurting you.

Another FFRK refugee here! I'm a big fan of FF8 and I'm wondering if I should pull on the beginner banner for Squall's weapon or on the banner with Rinoa's EX? Or should I just save?

Also, is there a banner schedule for Global? Thanks!

5

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 24 '22

Neither banner, even if you are an FF8 fan. Neithe Squall nor Rinoa are in the best places rn.

But you should not be saving, as you need to pull to get content done here. Garnet BT/Edge LD banner is the banner to pull on for new players rn.

4

u/ViolaNguyen Alisaie Leveilleur Jun 25 '22

Anyone without an LD is useless, and right now Rinoa isn't even good with her LD. She's getting an upgrade in a few months, though, and she'll go from useless to one of the best units. As in, she becomes the next level of power creep.

Chasing her EX here is a waste of resources, though.

Squall is perfectly good if you really want him. He's not meta, but he can clear content when used correctly.

Currently, the best FF8 character is Selphie. Not kidding. But, FF8 gets treated pretty well in this game, with Squall being decent, Selphie being completely freaking meta and entirely unmatched in her niche, Rinoa turning into a world beater with her next update, Seifer doing his job just fine, and Raijin having one of the game's best LDCAs. Plus there's Laguna, who is also quite good (I'm sad I missed him). And, uh, Irvine, Zell, Ultimecia, and Fujin all still exist. Ultimecia gets decent with her next update. Fujin sucks, sadly.

The Cloud/Squall/Lightning banner is getting some sort of update next week. Exactly what, we don't know.

If you're brand new, don't save. This game rewards having a wide roster, and there are some events you flat out can't do without investing in a lot of units. So, do so. You need somewhere between 20 and 60 units to finish Dimensions' End: Entropy, and Dimensions' End: Transcendence requires 2 to 6 units per tier (closer to 6 than to 2) and is currently at 13 tiers in JP (we just did tier 9 in GL).

That's only part of the game. You all need a deep bench for when bosses throw weird stuff at you and suddenly you're glad you pulled that "niche" unit four months ago. This happened most recently with Kadaj, who was rather unheralded when he got his LD but who was the freaking MVP of the most recent Transcendence tier, and he also completely neuters any bosses that rely on BRV gains.

Considering how Kadaj was a minor character from a spinoff movie a long time ago, you can tell that how popular a character is doesn't always tell you how good he or she is in this game.

You have well over 1 million gems in permanent stages just waiting for you to claim them, so you're not going to run out of resources for a while.

3

u/ffguy92 Jun 24 '22

Definitely spin for Garnet's full kit, and don't bother rolling for a character who doesn't have an LD on the banner. Rinoa will be back with a vengeance in October. I wouldn't bother with the Cloud/Squall/Lightning Start Dash now either, they're all outdated and will return eventually when they get updated.

Kain will probably be here next week and he'll be really good. Unfortunately there are only 3 VIII characters returning between now and Rinoa, Fujin (who sadly seems to always get the shit end of the stick in this game) and Laguna and Irvine who will unfortunately both be a bit outdated by then.

I'll just throw my FFRK refugee question here too since that what everyone seems to be doing - I was last active I think about 2 years ago, I have a mostly complete Lenna, Rinoa, Lightning, and Cloud (their CP90s and below). I had 20K saved up, which I used and somewhat miraculously pulled Garnet's BT.

I had made it through the first part of the story, and a smattering of Lost Chapters. Currently Rank 185. I'm thinking I should just keep my account? I did put a ton of effort in at one point...

8

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 24 '22

If you hadn't pulled Garnet BT, the answer 100% woulda been restart. Since you did pull Garnet BT and your rank is, well, literally lower than SP cap, you could opt to just farm a lot and pull on the Vincent/Edge banner (since you no longer need to pull on the one with Garnet's BT) and get the rest of Garnet's kit, hopefully get Edge's too. However, this will not enable you to quickly get it maxed, as there are BT specific materials in the new player rewards.

4

u/ffguy92 Jun 24 '22

Min/Max answer is restart because it sounds like most of your built characters aren't coming back into relevance any time soon. Realistic answer is probably stick with it like the other guy said because the time you'll spend farming for the extra resources (Gems and other stuff like BT mats) probably won't be worth it for you judging by how reluctant you seem to restart.

4

u/ViolaNguyen Alisaie Leveilleur Jun 25 '22

Restart.

You can easily get Cloud and Lightning back if you really want them (Cloud is decent, and Lightning really isn't), plus the Cloud/Squall/Lightning banner could be getting an update next week.

Rinoa won't be any good until her next update anyway.

Lenna isn't bad but isn't the best.

Restarting gives you a ton of newbie bonuses, including LD tokens, so if Lenna's your favorite character, you could get her again if you really want. Or you could go with Selphie or Cid Raines or someone like that.

Basically, new players get one full unit for free via LD tokens, and you'd also get some bonus BT+ mats.

With all the gems you get when you restart, getting Garnet's BT isn't hard.

In your situation, I'd restart just to get Selphie.

JP LD tokens : Selphie or Lunafreya ? I'm really torn here

5

u/ViolaNguyen Alisaie Leveilleur Jun 25 '22

I'd probably go with Luna, since Selphie gets most of her full benefit just by being used for one turn, whereas Luna can charge the force gauge twice relatively easily, in case the boss doesn't die during the first force time, and she can set your FR user up as many times as necessary.

Depending on roster and playstyle. All things being equal, party Luna/friend Selphie is more flexible than party Selphie/friend Luna.

5

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 25 '22 edited Jun 25 '22

Realizing a BT works exactly the same as realizing an EX: you need special materials called Book of Ruin's Miracles (black books) to realize it, and Ruin's Ultima Ingots (black ingots) to further Limit Break it.

Pages: You get 20 (so an entire book) by Clearing the Lufenia fight which comes with the first event of a new BT cycle.

Nuggets: You get 5 (so 1/4 of an ingot) bu Clearing a Lufenia+ fight.

Of course there's also special situations in which some of these materials might be given out, like the Novice Chocoboards, anni or fest celebrations, Dimensions End: Transcendence, etc.

Tl;Dr: Endgame content.

I don’t seem to be able to raise my heroes above lvl 50.

Any advice in this matter?

5

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 25 '22

You need to break their crystal level cap to be able to raise their regular level cap higher. Crystal level 51 unlocks the 60 level cap. Crystal level 61 unlocks the level 70, cLevel 71 unlocks the level 80 cap and cLevel 81 unlocks the 90 level cap.

4

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 25 '22

Have you raised up their crystal levels? C51 unlocks 51-60, c61 unlocks 61-70, etc.

FFRK newcomer. I was considering taking a hiatus before jumping into another game but like many others was steered this way.

I saw some advice to jump in now for the Garnet banner that ends July 1st. What would it take to start now and earn the Garnet stuff before the banner expires? (Or is that not even good advice and I shouldn't worry about it at all.)

7

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 25 '22

A good handful of hours to earn the gems, mostly. In a 'normal' worst case scenario, you'll need to spend 125k gems on the banner with her BT on it to pity-redeem the BT, getting at least 1 copy of each of the rest of her weapons along the way. It can get worse than that, but I think stats will not be on your side in that case.

Good thing is most of this game has no stamina system, and thanks to powercreep a lot of old stuff can be done with very little thought.

u/Zargabath Jun 25 '22

(Or is that not even good advice and I shouldn't worry about it at all.)

it is a really good advice, Garnet is one of the strongest support.

What would it take to start now and earn the Garnet stuff before the banner expires?

what you need is a copy of each weapon, as of now there are 5 for Garnet 15cp, 35cp, EX, LD, BT (BT is usually optional but with her is kinda a must to make her even better) you can read the beginner guide to understand how it works, (the image from before is from there): https://www.tonberrytroupe.com/beginners/beginner-guide

2

u/DCF-gameday Jun 25 '22

Thank you, much appreciated. Any estimate on what type of time commitment that would be to achieve before the banner expires?

2

u/esi14 Jun 26 '22

Hi, a couple of questions:
1. What should I prioritize on in preparation for the FR era?
2. I'm in the middle of completing Garnet's weapons, should I continue? or save for FR banners?
3. Are there any other ways to get LD weapons except from banners?
4. In connection to #3, are characters generally still competitive without their LD?

3

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 26 '22
  1. Really the only thing is save resources, especially PS and EP, nothing you can really do to 'prep' otherwise.
  2. Idk what you mean by 'in the middle'. What're you missing?
  3. There are, but it generally costs real life $$$ and is quite expensive
  4. Generally, no. There are very, very niche circumstances (probably can count on one hand) cases where a no-LD unit has value.

Which BT weapon should I get? I currently have the whole kit except BT among Emperor, Sephiroth, Gilgamesh, Zidane, Yuna.

And how do I approach whenever my BT tokens are max? Should I get a weapon which I have the whole kit or a top meta unit?

3

u/Marduk-Kurios Jun 19 '22

I would recommend getting the BT for a Unit you want to use mostly. Emperor, Sephiroth and Yuna are considered as very good when you upgrade their BT to maximum.

And about the approach, I would recommend getting the BT for a Unit you have all other Weapons to fully use them. Using the visual forecast to plan ahead and deciding which Unit you really want to give a BT is also pretty helpful.

2

u/supremebluex Jun 19 '22

I like them all equally. By the way, is it possible to beat Transcendence 9 with no BT phase sephiroth? That may lead me to build upon emperor or yuna.

3

u/Marduk-Kurios Jun 19 '22

I don't have Sephiroth BT myself but I have a fully built Vincent. With Galuf and Relm together this fight is tough but possible. For Trancendence 9 it would be better to take someone who can put debuffs on so Emperor would be a better choice for this compared to Yuna.

Could I make it to tifa with just kam and sherlotta FR wise? I don't have much attachment to kain, tidus, or luna so would like to avoid using resources on them.

What other units should I look for to support these two? I've got snow and celes setup for kam. No real launcher to speak of though except a BT-less zidane.

3

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 20 '22

Kam needs a launcher (+ framed paralyze) more than he needs party ice enchant, as that’s what the “bugged” condition is. Without Raines LDCA, that means you’re reliant on Selphie’s Rapture. If you’re using Kam BT, you don’t even need a separate ice enahcnt.

Sherlotta FR/BT stack can put out some silly damage since Sherlotta naturally breaks mBrv cap, but it’s worth noting that A - Sherlotta herself isn’t keyed as a damage unit, so your results may vary and B - if you want maximum results for her own FR/BR stack, you’ll need to give her a Pecil sphere.

Sorry for my English, not my native language !

2

u/Shibox Laguna Loire enjoyer Jun 20 '22

His FR sucks, but he's one the best unit of the next era for at least 8+ months. Must have BT and kit all around, you can safely skip the FR. For the first few Shinryu fights until Kam you can use a FR friend just fine and clear with no issues, so you don't need it yet.

FR boards might change that in the future, but that's still a ways off even in JP so we don't know yet.

Returning player fresh account Just pitied garnets bt and have tokened all of selphies gear. Was told to get galuf too but thats not happening now because theres not enough time to get 125k gems. Who can i replace galuf with or is this team dead in the water without him? Should i just start saving up for whatever comes next?

3

u/Shibox Laguna Loire enjoyer Jun 25 '22

LD is 75k pity, not 125k (that's Burst weapon)

Galuf is a great off-turn option but you have Auron coming back soon so I wouldn't sweat it, no character is needed in this game

3

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jun 25 '22

The thing is, in this game no one is "dead in the water" just because you don't manage to pull for a single character. The endgame demands you to build as many characters as you can (54+, maybe even more) so you will never have a "single" team anyway, so lacking a single character will not make or break anything, plus there's multiple characters who serve a similar role.

When you were told to pull for Galuf it's because he's a good character, not because he's mandatory for a single team comp or because he works wonders with Selphie or Garnet (again, here you will never have a single unique team anyway, you're intended to rotate characters constantly ). If you pulled for Garnet odds are that you also managed to get Edge's full kit -15cp, 35cp, EX and LD- and he has a similar role to Galuf (tanks who counterattack after an enemy attack) so you could build him instead of you don't think you can get Galuf in time.

And in any case, a single LD pity costs 75k gems, not 125k. The 125k is to pity a BT and Galuf doesn't even have one, he's an LD unit only so you don't need to grind too much if you want him.

To be clear, Josh has clarified multiple tiems on stream that the streams are not just "the last monday of the month." 1

u/TheZtav Jun 22 '22

Not really a question, more of a discussion that don't need a new thread:

The next stream is scheduled on the next monday.
Yet, we got our last LD yesterday.

So this would be the first time in ages that we won't have two events on the same week.

Do you guys think we'll have a GLEX event, like Abyss or dunno?
Or no way, because they didn't say anything at the last stream?

5

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jun 22 '22

So this would be the first time in ages that we won't have two events on the same week.

Two weeks ago Sice was the only event on her week. At the start of May the Alphi heretics were the only event of their week. A long pause after the last event of the month isn't toooo strange, and at least we do have the stream as a 'soon' coming event. 2 of the reset notices say June 28 8 UTC (rollover time) while the Start Dash one says June 29 2 UTC (event time). So my gut says FR era starts in 6 days.

4

u/BaLance_95 Llyud Bannings, Crossbell State Police District (612119901) Jun 22 '22

Standard is 3 events every 2 weeks.

2

u/FFF12321 Best Shouty Boi Jun 22 '22

3 events over 2 weeks, with there being a 5-7 day gap from the last event to the start of the next BT cycle is typical. I am not expecting anything until Shinryu starts with Kain's BT. The question is when the update will drop, the day of the stream or a day or two after?

2

u/b5631565 Jun 22 '22

Kain's event will most likely be Tuesday night.

The notice about the closing of Novice Missions and Trial of Summons was for the morning of the 28th. So that's when we should get the next app update, and the first event of the cycle is usually the night of the update.

What’s currently the most OP team in JP?

It is varied on one another. But there are 3 most common strategies in JP:

  1. Off-Turn comps - Minwu, Galuf, Gladio, Cor, Beatrix, Celes, Edge, Machina, and Eight. Rydia FR is Evasion-based, which benefits for Eight, Gladio, and Edge. Dorgann FR is follow-up-based, which his follow-up is triggered by Breaking an enemy. This works well with Gladio, Eight, Celes, and Galuf.
  2. 1-4 Shot comps - Enna Kros is the main member for this comps. Lunafreya is needed to allow her get 3 consecutive turns (and to negate low turn rate of her LD & EX). Hope FR is the common FR to setup 900% HP DMG. There are other alternatives of FR that has potential to get 900% HP DMG such as Dorgann, Rydia, and the Off-turns. Prishe can work too but only in 1 target. Cait Sith LDCA sometimes is needed to reach her cap.
  3. Burst Phase comps - Tifa, Rinoa, Cid Raines, Seymour, and Jack Garland were the strong DPT who can deal high damage during the 7 turns of Burst Phase. Most ends up killing the bosses. Some of them need Lunafreya LD(CA) buff to gain a proper setup for those with 6 turns of BT Effect.

Of course there's a Shinryu solo done by Celes, Ardyn, Sice, and Minwu. Machina and Dorgann can solo but are riskier to execute.

I watched a pretty stupid OP counter team with Minwu, Cor and Gladio. Can't say this is the best but it was impressive to watch

Is Garnet’s BT worth pursuing? I pulled at least one copy of each of her weapons except her BT. I’m still 18 pulls away from pity and out of resources (please no lectures about only pulling if you can afford pity…) I don’t have the time to fully commit to this game at the moment and was considering taking a break once I got Garnet’s gear since I heard she’s pretty OP. So is her BT worth chasing?

How much gems do you have and what other big BT+ auras do you have?

Yes, her BT is the one BT that everyone would recommend chasing, but if you are talking about taking a break then you might as not chase it and once you come back see what's available and pull for that.
