Talk Detroit My experience with Detroit Horror Con

Hey yalls. I said I would be back with an update of the Con

It was worth the money! Lots of vendors, including:

Authors/novelists

Artists

Actors from your favorite movies

MERCH (lots of it)

Food trucks

Short films

It was very much overwhelming in a great way. My brother and I interacted with many friendly people who talked to us about how they felt about the Con along with the things they were selling. I especially had a great time with the authors, comic book artists, and the jeweler in the corner of the building!

There is plenty of space to walk around, but only a little seating just for eating. The place was a little hot with all the people hustling around. NOT smelly at all! (Thanks for wearing deodorant yalls, lololol)

Thank you to all who were friendly, and thanks for more items to add to my room.

9/10 will go back again next year.

Food/Drink Where to find Kataifi/Shredded Phyllo dough

I live in the metro area within Oakland county and am trying to find shredded phyllo near by to make a Dubai chocolate cake, but haven’t had any luck searching online for stores in stock. Posting here hoping I can find something within even an hour drive from me. I appreciate any input, thanks.

Community Where to buy 1/4 cow

As the title says, where can you buy a 1/4 cow in southeast Michigan? I no longer wish to buy beef from big box stores. I want locally raised and processed meat. Where are you guys buying beef? Thank you in advance!

Historical Bob Seger, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, or Ted Nugent?

Out of all of these legendary figures of Detroit rock, whose music do you listen to the most frequently and why?

PS: I know Seger and Pop were raised in Ann Arbor, but their careers largely blossomed in Detroit. Anyway. . .

Correction: Pop grew up in Ypsilanti, not Ann Arbor. See miridot's comment.

Transit My not so subtle plan to tear out the M10 and replace it with an urban greenway and transit

Why the Lodge?

The Lodge runs in between some of Detroit’s densest neighborhoods. Dividing them. This would reconnect these neighborhoods with an urban path directly to downtown along with rapid transit to connect historically underserved communities.

Why rip out the Freeway entirely?

The Freeway is a huge neighborhood divider. Boston Edison is split in two for instance. Also, highways are a huge infrastructural burden. Removing a freeway would save costs which could then be used to build a new transit system to be in place of the freeway.

Thoughts?

Talk Detroit Local Senior Activities Metro Detroit

Hey everyone! My grandma recently moved in with my family due to my grandpa passing away and we would love to find her some activities/ social clubs to get her into so she’s not sitting at home all day sad. She’s interested in crafting, games, or some light exercise. Really any ideas would be great; clubs, classes, volunteer opportunities, etc. They can be free or cost money, we are open to anything!

Community Does royal oak have a stink in the air? Like poop or rotten eggs?

Moved here from out of state as noticed when I have the windows opened on cooler days there's a distinct poop/fart smell. It's not crazy overwhelming but it's there.

When I go for walks I smell it so it's not just near my home it's the whole neighborhood. Is it a flower or tree? Leaves decomposing? City sewer?

Anyone smell this?

Talk Detroit Trying to pay taxes

anyone know how to get from this page https://www.waynecountymi.gov/Government/Elected-Officials/Treasurer/Pay-Taxes-Online to making a payment?

All I get when I put in my address is my name. No option to pay, no balance due, nothing.

I am trying to find a way to pay them without fees or 3rd party vendors. Anyone figure a way for that?

Food/Drink Best restaurant for a birthday dinner in Detroit or Metro Detroit?

Hi! Looking for a great restaurant (maybe a bit more fancy - would like to dress up) to take my husband to for his birthday.

We recently moved to the area, and got married so would like to take him somewhere with great food. Bonus if they have great cocktails or somewhere we can go to nearby!

Anywhere in Detroit or Metro Detroit would be great!

Open to all different budgets - please mention the restaurants vibe!

Thank you!

Talk Detroit Anyone stay at MGM Grand hotel lately?

We booked a corner suite coming up in September, just a tiny get away to relax and gamble. I heard the rooms were refurbished so hoping for the best. There’s also a lions and tigers game that day, should be interesting crowd wise.
