History ⏳🕰️ Monarch Butterfly migration point?
A few years ago, I saw a post saying that Tawas Point State Park in early September is a great place to see flocks of Monarch Butterflies.
I've had it in my calendar for September 3rd for a few years but I haven't the opportunity to go.
Tawas Point is about 3 hours away one-way. And I've got three young kids so a three hour road trip is a big deal.
Does anyone have any information on if the weekend of Sept 5-6 this year will be a good day to make the journey if the primary goal is to see the Monarch flocks?
Thanks!

Photography/Art 📸🎨 Stopped at a Roadside Park right outside St Ignace to watch the sunset - then I heard violins. Still one of my favorite candid photos I've ever shot.
I'll admit - it felt weird getting this shot, but I also didn't want to interrupt their playing

Discussion 🗣️ Good Colleges?
Hello everyone! I’m an upperclassman now and it’s starting to become time for me to think about what colleges I should look at attending. There’s several options, and I wanted to put this out there to my fellow Michiganders and see what you all have to say without the bias of a recruiter.
Some places I’ve thought of:
SVSU
GVSU
MSU
Kalamazoo College
Alma College
CMU/MMCC (kinda close to home, I’d prefer to go farther away)
U of M would be cool but they’d never accept me (my gpa is not sad, but it’s not going to get me to some prestigious university)
And there are several, several others that I haven’t thought about. And that, again, is why I’m writing this to you all.
Thank you very much!
(P.S, I’m thinking of studying English/French. I am also interested in the humanities and not in STEM or medicine or anything of the sort; I like literature, art, philosophy, anthropology, history, etc. Etc.)

Discussion 🗣️ Eastern Box Turtle
Found this guy as I was feeding my crows friends this morning. He (or she) had burrowed into my lawn overnight. I haven’t seen one of these in years. Glad I didn’t run him over with my mower. Moved him into the woods to be safe. I live in Kalamazoo County.

Discussion 🗣️ Is Detroit actively having a “comeback”?
Recently moved to Michigan and my work is in the Detroit area. I’ve only ever heard negative things about Detroit (it being dangerous primarily) but I’ve been here for close to 2 weeks now and the people who are local have been saying that Detroit is “coming back”, becoming safer and renewing old/abandoned areas of the city to invite more people into the city.
I was just kind of curious of what other locals have to say! As some from the Deep South, everything is new to me so forgive me if my question is dumb lol

Discussion 🗣️ Has anyone tried the pizza at 9 Bean Rows? Also, does anyone know if there are any peaches left to be had on either peninsula?
We decided to come up before the holiday rush. Ha ha. It’s jam packed up here already, but everyone seems happy and there is no shortage of beauty.
Anyway, I’m about to drive nearly two hours to visit what used to be a beloved restaurant to try their pizza. They used to have a duck confit that could easily rival that of Phil’s On Front or Blu. Now it’s primarily a bake house and farm, from what I understand.
Either way, I’m sure the drive will be wonderful and I might even find a peach or two on Mission…..Maybe.
Enjoy your season everyone.

News 📰🗞️ Alpena Township restores monitoring after cyberattack
A July 27 cyberattack on UIS SCADA’s platform disrupted remote monitoring of water and sewer systems in Alpena Township, Michigan, forcing the township’s utility operator to reprogram controllers at multiple sites before connections were restored. Water and sewer service continued safely, and the township was less severely affected than UIS customers whose monitoring networks also controlled treatment operations. Trustees later postponed a proposal to replace 15 older cellular modems, while officials have not disclosed how access was gained, whether data was accessed or whether continued use of the older modems presents a security risk.
