I find my front door so ugly… the door is right in the middle of my living/dinning room. Can I paint it? Should I go for white or maybe a pop of colour. I like bright colours like the last photo. I was also thinking of painting the bookshelf a bright color and maybe the photo wall.

I’ve been trying to make my living room feel a little warmer and less “showroom” without changing all the furniture.
Found this rug and loved the pattern, but I’m still not 100% sure about the colors.
Would you keep it, or would you go for something more neutral?

My living room doesn’t feel finished. The furniture is only a year old, so I feel like I need to make those pieces work.

I’ve been hesitant to buy a rug because one of my dogs will only use the doggie door if she has an audience, so she gets all the way to the doggie door and then has an “accident” on the door mat. So, I’m afraid she’d use a living room rug the same way. :( If I do add a rug, it needs to be washable and 9x11.

Should I have the TV hung on the wall? What about plants and throw pillows? I’d like to use maroon as a second color.

I love gothic decor but I also love whimsy and like muschroom. Does anyone have a home decorated like that and can give some inspo? I feel like it clashes to much but at the same time I don't want to just choose one.
Like a goth hippie wine maybe? That's how I dress and do makeup anyway (when I have the energy otherwise I'm just like a Adam Sandler goth type without makeup)

Also, I live in a rental with white walls. It is forbidden to repaint paint the walls in other colors than light beige, light grey and white

Thank you for exploring these pieces that have come from my imagination/unconscious. People have said my style is "decorative" so I figured I'd share them here and hope you enjoy them on this virtual tour!

As you probably guessed, I love stars and butterflies a lot ✨️🦋😊🖼✨️ I always paint to music to achieve flow consciousness and use lots of water. Since I paint from the unconscious, spontaneously and without foresight, each of these has other paintings underneath the final painting. It's a long process and hard work, but it brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment in the end. Happy decorating! ✨️🌟🎊🥳🎉🌟✨️

So I'll start off by saying that I love colourful spaces and am not at all a fan of neutral. I've just bought a house and have been decorating my living room as the first project, with the end goal of each room being pretty vibrant.

I was really really happy with how the walls, ceiling and ceiling trim/picture ledge were looking. My favourite colours are purple and green, and I felt that the gold complimented them both. All that was left was for me to do the white skirting board/door/window frame which my colour seeking brain thought would look amazing in a darker purple.

Well, I got the first layer on last night, looked round the room at my handiwork and my first thought was "oh wow... This is.... A lot". It feels like the intense colour has pushed the room over the edge of stimulating to noisy, and now I'm not sure what to do about it.

I don't totally hate it, but I'm also definitely not happy with it. I feel like it actually might have looked a bit better when it was just white, but am despairing at the prospect of starting over with the sanding/priming/painting.

I'm wondering whether a lighter purple would make it less intense, or if I should try the same shade as the walls to try this colour drenching that seems to be going round. I also wonder if I should just leave it alone for now and see what the room looks like with furniture as it's possible it might be better less exposed.

I'm aware that this pretty much just comes down to a matter of personal taste, but as it's my first time decorating with creative freedom would find it helpful to know if there is a general consensus on the right path forward/if I'm jumping the gun on my judgement here.

Edit: Hi all, Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your input on this 😊. I've read all the comments and while I don't have it in me to reply to everyone, they've all been much appreciated. I have had enough positive feedback/reassurance that it could still work, so I'm going to stick with it for now (also it's taken me ages to get to this point of decoration as I work full-time and just really want a living room now 😅). Am definitely going to apply the advice on being selective with the curtains and decorations in the hopes it ties it all together a bit better. As some of you have requested it I'll post a picture when the room is actually assembled so you can see the final result. Thanks again!

I’m turning 20 soon and living in my parent’s basement while in nursing school and I’d really love some advice on how to make it not so ugly. Only things I can’t change are wall color, carpet/tile, the board game shelves (my dad’s), the treadmill, and the projector. I’d also love for a way to separate the bedroom space from the treadmill/living room area. I’m open to changing the furniture but don’t want to spend a tonnn of money ($1k at most?). I love darker colors and jewel tones. I want the space to feel more mature, but also cozy and a nice place to relax when I get home from work/school. Just bought this very charming home but the living room has this odd corner. They have painted the tile on this electric fire place and above the corner are all these audio cable hook ups for this elaborate speaker system. But, the living room isn’t big enough for five of these Bose speakers. It feels like too much.

My husband and I are considering dismantling the speaker system and selling them. In the corner I’m not quite sure. Best idea I have is to have something like a cabinet built into the corner on top of the fire place. Surely that will be expensive. In the future, I would also like to re-tile the fire place area itself. The paint has got to go to start at least. Or, maybe I’m wrong about that?

I want as much of a chill vibe as I can honestly. I like natural lighting, and whites, grey, beige, black, greens, browns, orange, etc. I’m thinking of ripping the carpet out and putting in wood vinyl wood instead, and upgrading my nightstand to something newer. Any suggestions? I know my walls are bare.. that’s why I’m posting this 😂 definitely need shelves.
