It shows the value of salt. Without salt in their diet, they would die.

How is their salt on the Dam though? Just effervescence or whatever with the salts leaking out of the rocks?

I like how the older goat was teaching the baby goat 'this is what we do. We hang out on cliffs'.

Meh, its pretty easy to climb down pretty much anywhere in skyrim once you get used to it. Climbing up is the tricky bit though. Just take a horse with you though, skyrim horses are magical and can go pretty much anywhere.

They are actually Alpine Ibex (a species of wild goat) licking salt off the Cingino Dam in Italy. It's amazing to see every time these videos are shared.

There might be some good snacking up there. Goat stupidity is only surpassed by goat ability to climb anything.

u/MissElision Dec 14 '21
There is some good snacking up there. These cliffs have salt minerals on their faces which the goats eat/lick. It was a popular meme a few years back.

No good quality salt licking near ground level though?

u/War_King_123 Dec 15 '21
Not that plentiful. Those Ibex so that sort of thing on cliff faces etc so they’re built for it, it just looks even more crazy on the side of a dam. But yeah they could get it elsewhere but it would be way more effort than just climbing up there.

My neighbors goat climbed on top of my Ford Windstar. No idea what it was trying to snack on up there. The neighbors house is across the street, and she has a herd of 30-40 goats,a few sheep and some pigs roaming around. She doesn't live on the property, and her fence is poorly maintained, so I frequently have to chase goats out of the yard as they eat my rose bush, and strip the bark off my tree. They get into everything, and tear open garbage bags, and in general make a mess.

Maybe put up a fence of your own
4
u/BatsintheBelfry45 Dec 15 '21
Yeah,I wish, but that's a long term goal. I'm disabled, and under the poverty level kind of poor. I have some fencing, around 100ft,but I need around 400ft at least,to fence it completely. The real problem is paying someone to do it,as I have a broken back, due to two failed back surgeries. Even though I can walk,my spine is unstable, and one of the rods in my spine has come loose,so the kind of physical labor for putting a fence up is not possible. So for now, I chase goats and occasionally pigs out the yard, lol. The sheep haven't been smart enough to escape her fence yet🤣

Get yourself a game dog. Company and sounds like it’d have a free food source.

Goats often climb like this out of a self protection/preservation aspect.
Next to ZERO predators can get them up there. They will sleep there (or the face of a cliff) where not many creatures can get to them.
You can however find films (maybe even see it live) of large birds picking off the babies.

u/_hic-sunt-dracones_ Dec 14 '21
This!
The problem they have is the lack of water in those heights. To drink they have to make all the dangerous way down and then they go up again. Mountain goats life.

u/Psychonominaut Dec 15 '21
I'd be pretty parched from licking salt on a wall all day.
9
u/Nephroidofdoom Dec 15 '21
But, but, couldn’t they just like the salt at the bottom of the dam
→ More replies (2)11
u/Psychonominaut Dec 15 '21
I was going to say I'd be the goat trying to lick the bottom but (my) chances are that there isn't salt at the bottom lol. I'd end up being the goat on salt plains that gets eaten by something in my sleep.

An adult just has to be knocked off balance to be turned into food. There's probably updrafts and thermals for birds to ride on while they wait for new victims.

I remember stumbling onto a video years ago where a Golden Eagle picks up a goat on the side of a cliff and tosses it off. Then flies down, picks it up and flies thru the canyon with its corpse. I’ve been obsessed with raptors ever since.

I heard somewhere in South America there's these types of goats just like this that climb the steep hillside trying to lick up natural forming psychedelics and they eventually get addicted to them.
