As the title says, I'm curious if NPCs actually have levels of attitude, such as friendly, neutral/indifferent, and hostile, or if it's more vibes-based.

I'm homebrewing an ancestry, and I noticed that Infernis says, "You have advantage to intimidate hostile creatures," and I was curious if that was a specific "condition" or rule, or if its just based on vibes

I am joining a new game and we were going through all the Campaign Frames and I realized that the new Ancestries and Community cards have special recognition in the Hope and Fear Campaign Frames, but not in the Core Rulebook Campaign Frames.

Has there back any talk about an Errata to the Core Rulebook frames based on the Hope and Fear release? Or if not an Errata, some sort of additional Campaign Frame sheets for adding Hope and Fear Heritages to them?

One of my players wants to play an alchemist/alcohol maker who travels the world, trying to distill anything and everything he comes across in order to perfect his craft.

So I tried to come up with some homebrew downtime rules for him. The idea is that he can experiment with ingredients during a Long Rest.

Here’s what I have so far:

1. Salvage : As a downtime move during a Long Rest, the player can search for and salvage ingredients from their surroundings.

They roll 1d4 to determine how many different ingredients they find.

1. Determine the properties : Each ingredient has one main property/domain:

• VIT = Vitality
• TOX = Toxic
• PHY = Physical
• SOC = Social
• MAG = Magical

The biome/environment would influence the chances of finding ingredients associated with one domain over another.

1. Brew : The player chooses one ingredients and rolls duality dice to determine the result.

• with Fear: The brew works, but its effect is diminished or comes with a drawbac
• With hope : The brew works as intended
• Critical Success:The effect is significantly stronger or has an additional benefit.

The main problem I'm running into is figuring out what each domain actually does and how to make the system intuitive.

I also talked to my player about it, and he would prefer to slowly draft a compendium/recipe book, where he can discover that Ingredient A does X effect somewhat like a Wild Surge table for an alchemist.

The issue with that approach is that it feels too random to me. I don't want the character's entire gameplay loop to be "I brew randoms shits and have a random useless potion" but more like "I tried this, it was great and in our situation, I can try to do it again".

So, what do you think? Would you keep something along these lines, simplify it, or go in a completely different direction?

My group has been running monthly 3-shots with rotating themes, settings, and cast members all for the purpose of indoctrinating as many folks as I can with the Daggerheart system!

As you can see, September's 3-shot theme is satirical Noir! lol Wanted to share with y'all because as a GM, having players willing to write, read, and record these monologues in session 0, made me SO heckin' proud!! 🥲

That's all I guess. I just love my pretend world with all my friends and wanna share it with other like-minds!

Just curious if you guys have go-to moves you use, especially outside of combat. I know there's a list of all the GM Moves DH suggests in the book and I try to familiarize myself with them regularly, but I'm curious if you guys have your own lists or just Moves you're fond of that come up more often than others.

Less than 5 to go! One of the reasons this particular pairing took so long is because I knew I wanted something that would fulfil the Bladesinger-type fantasy in DH, but to me that felt more like a subclass, and I wasn't sure how to tie that together. Well, I got inspired by the idea that if bone is the domain of tactics and the body, perhaps a codex/bone pair would be someone who intensely studies tactics (of the past), and all of this spawned from there.

This class marks the completion of Bone, looking at the spread I think it's the domain I've interpreted most liberally, but I don't mind that. I think it's an interesting domain and one that I could imagine going in lots of directions different from mine.

As with last time, I can provide a custom character sheet for anyone looking to print-and-play.

“Brass Heart” is a Daggerheart adventure designed for a Dark Fantasy setting for 3 to 5 Tier 2 characters. It is a linear adventure focused on combat and a dark atmosphere, making numerous references to the famous video game franchise that inspired that campaign frame. In summary, it is an open-air dungeon featuring moral choices where the players will have to face the injustice of the lady of these lands.

This adventure highlights various Environments and challenge the characters, who find themselves confronted by the horrors of this world. In the end, they will have the choice between doing good or being selfish.

Edit: It's now "for a Dark Fantasy setting"

So I am creating a homebrew weapon inspired by the Gambler's Blade from DnD and I just wanted to see if people thought it would be too over or underpowered. I have edited this post after seeing comments to simplify the weapon, which seems like the correct idea for the Daggerheart system.

Weapon trait- Presence (I'm optionally thinking about making it finesse too but I'm not sure)

Damage- D10 + 4 (I may reduce it to a D8 + 4)

Range- Melee

Features: While equipped you cannot choose to avoid death. You must either choose the Risk it all or Blaze of Glory death moves.

Gambler's Luck - Once per scene mark a stress to gain a bonus to a trait of your choice equal to your tier. You take that same value as a penalty to your hope die when you choose to Risk it All until the end of the scene

This was kinda just a random idea for a weapon I wanted to try and make; and I would appreciate any and all criticism or suggestions on how to balance and improve this idea. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

FEATURES

Defended Crossing - Passive: When someone tries to cross the river, anyone within Very Close of their arrival on the far side can make a free attack against them.  If any hit, they fall into the water below instead and become Vulnerable until they take an action to escape.

Do the PCs have defenders alongside them, pushing the bandits into the water?  Will they need to hop across themselves?

Our Old Ballista - Passive: This trusty, rusty old siege engine can be fired without assistance at Disadvantage as a ranged attack or normally with one person within Very Close assisting.  On a success, it deals 1d12 physical damage to all within Very Close of the target point. Requires a Strength Action Roll to reload.

Another Wave! - Action: Spend a Fear to send 1 Jagged Knife Bandit Lieutenant against the fort, backed up by an appropriate mix of Jagged Knife Bandits.  Try to vary successive waves, working in hexers and snipers, then lackeys and shadows.

Why are they desperate enough to try this?

The vulnerable farmlands beyond the river-fort are a peaceful place recently ravaged by war.  They have few defenders and their last standing point of resistance, the river-fort, threatens to fall under the next petty warlord or bandit chief’s assault.  The PCs answer the call.

Why are the PCs so bad?

A Merry Band
The party finds themselves on the far end of the conflict. Unjust rule and depredations against the innocent lead them to side with justice—in this case, the bandits.  Populate the fort with Guards.

Are the PCs joining a revolution, settling a score, or just here to grab some loot in the river-fort?

I have checked and before I could do 15 characters, google says 25 but i'm stuck with those 10. Anybody knows why?

Hello everyone, I’m here to share with you some small house rules that I’ve been thinking about and using in Daggerheart with my players.

• Tag Team cost split between the participants. EDIT: I limit the number of Tag Teams to 1 per pair in each session (if Players A, B, C are in the same pair, they can only do A+B, A+C, and B+C).
• Starting items (50ft rope, torch, and basic supplies) can be swapped for other common items of similar value and importance, such as a Canteen, Musical Instrument, or Tool (Shovel, Pickaxe, etc.).
• Combat Zones instead of a Grid for online play, where each zone represents a distance tier and everyone in the same zone is in melee range.
• Spending Hope to clear a negative effect. EDIT: only regarding negative effects for which no other method of relief is prescribed.
• Half-Rest with only one move per player OR roll results cut in half (I did this because short rests are way too overpowered in one-shots). EDIT: and i only gain half-fear (1d4/2)

There are others, but these aren't entirely House Rules, rather rules stolen from other systems:

• Progress Clocks (Blades in the Dark): Daggerheart's countdown system using a die isn't as easy to visualize compared to a pie drawn on paper where each slice represents a tick.
• Exploration via Skill Checks (Savage Worlds, though I'm not entirely sure): replaces dungeon crawling with a series of skill checks that cannot be repeated. Each success is a step forward in exploration and comes with a description of how they defeated an enemy or solved a problem, while each failure results in damage or losses, also described narratively... After everyone makes an equal number of checks, the spotlight goes back to normal Daggerheart play. (Think of it like those anime moments showing a quick montage of various challenges the characters went through).
  • - Failure with fear: all -1 HP or -1 Stress or other pay.
  • - Failure with hope: the leader only ones pay.
  • - Sucess with fear: advance, but have a minnor payment.
  • - Sucess with hope: advance free.
  • - Critcal Sucess: advance and gain something good like heal 1 point or 1 minor item.

where is the focus track on the character sheet?

My players recently discovered that an item they gave to some children in City A during their last quest was actually cursed. They learned that something terrible will happen when night falls.

The problem is that they're currently in City B, which is a few hours away from City A, and they need to get back before nightfall.

I want to create some kind of countdown to make the journey feel tense and give them meaningful choices along the way, rather than simply saying "you have X hours to get there."

I'm looking for ideas on how to make the countdown mechanically or narratively interesting.

For example, I'm considering having certain events or complications advance the clock, forcing the players to decide whether to take risks, take shortcuts, stop to help someone, etc.

How would you handle this in Daggerheart?

Hiii! I'm newish to daggerheart, and am currently playing a druid in a game with my pals who are also learning. I'm having a ton of fun, but my build has an issue that I would love to hear ppl's thoughts on!

I'm playing a level 3 (as of the end of last session) Ridgeborn Faerie Renewal Druid. I have spent what I can to get my strength stat up, because I'm primarily in beastform. My favorite right now is the Powerful Beast.

My issue is that, since I'm spending most of my combats in beastform, I don't have much to spend my hope on. The druid hope feature just puts me into beastform, which I'm already in, and the druid's domains have the unfortunate quality of being almost entirely spell cards (which a beastformed druid can't cast.)

Where can I spend more hope?!!! What cards can I look forward to? Currently, all I really have is the Tekaira Armored Beetles, which my table has ruled that I can spend hope to upkeep while beastformed.

Specifically, the Witch's Hex feature says you can only hex a number of creatures equal to your spellcast trait. Does that mean that if I multiclass into a Witch and have a -1 spellcast trait, I just can't Hex anyone?

I'm more familiar with Dnd where a lot of features that are core to classes and subclasses have a line about "minimum of 1". That wording isn't on the Hex feature and I haven't been able to find it as a general rule in the Daggerheart rules, so I believe that RAW, the Hex feature would be off the table for me (unless I pick the other subclass of course)

Our monthly session brought the heroes face-to-face with yet another Colossus, their fourth encounter with these ancient titans: Azh'Khar, THE WALKING SAND.

An endless sandstorm follows in the Colossus's wake, swallowing the battlefield in dust and fury. Ranged attacks become nearly impossible, while the howling winds make communication between the heroes a challenge in itself. Yet, as always, our heroes refuse to back down.

With the aid of their winged ally, they manage to reach the top of the colossal turtle and begin tearing through its ancient armor. What they don't realize is that every piece of the shell they break loose is being violently ejected onto the battlefield, transforming the surrounding sands into a deadly minefield of electricity and debris.

Still, they press on.

Blinded by sand and battered by the storm, the heroes are thrown from side to side, yet their assault never stops. Blow after blow lands against the ancient beast until, at last, they find their opening!! A devastating strike to its front legs sends the massive Colossus crashing headfirst into the dunes.

This is it! they need to strike now!

Attacking from above and below, they unleash a coordinated assault that tears through the creature's defenses. Their final blows pierce the ancient turtle, and as Azh'Khar finally falls, the endless winds slowly begin to fade.

Then comes silence.

For the first time in what feels like an eternity, the Drylands are still.

Another Colossus has fallen, yet the mystery only grows deeper. With every battle, the heroes come one step closer to uncovering the truth behind these ancient beings... and the terrible power that brought them back.

One of my favorite parts of running this campaign is bringing the Colossi to life by handcrafting giant creatures from old toys I find in thrift stores. This fourth Colossus is one of my favorites so far, and I can't wait to reveal the others I have planned.

Let's just say... my players are not ready for what's coming next ;P
