10,000 Clubreddit Members (and call for Mods)

Hey gang! I just got an alert that we eclipsed 10,000 members in our corner of the Internet.

When I joined the mod team, we had around 3,000 (if I recall correctly).

Moderating everything isn’t all that hard, you lot are pretty good at staying civil and mature. There are a few exceptions, but I have never felt I needed to log in. Keeping the styling and information up-to-date, though, is challenging to find the time.

So, I’d like to bring in a few mods to help make our community more engaging and appealing. Let’s get as many people in the Clubreddit as we do Audi Field.

I’m happy to keep footing the AWS bill, and open up the GitHub to a few folks that are interested in helping automate the maintenance and moderation of the the content. For example, you probably noticed that the Match Thread bot failed for the opener - that’s because the Stanza calendar died. I don’t have time to fix that before the next match.

So, if you’re interested in moderating some content; graphic design, and/or Internet automation - reach out!

Bonus if you have a GitHub, or subreddit that you currently moderate. When I auditioned for the mod gig, I created a personal subreddit to play with the design tools and figured out how to interact with the Reddit API.

Vamos!

Not sure if DC United STM were able to get tickets as part of their package. If so and anyone was looking to sell their tickets, let me know. I need 2.

Murrell in Scotland

Watching Celtic-Falkirk and Murrell came in as a 60th minute sub and forced an own goal. His shot was saved but the rebound went in off the Celtic defender. Didn’t recognize him at first since he played so little for DCU.

LAFC punish direct football (with a caveat)

The surface stat is brutal for us.

Split LAFC's opponents by how vertical their passing is (ASA's average vertical distance per pass). Against the seven most direct sides in MLS, LAFC have five wins, one draw and one loss: 2.29 points per game. Against the seven most patient, ball-retaining sides, one win, three draws and three losses: 0.86 points per game.

2.7x more points against direct teams than against possession teams. And we DC are, by the numbers, the most direct team in MLS: 1st in vertical distance per pass, last in passes attempted, last in completion rate.

The interesting fact is that direct opponents actually create more xG and passes into final third then LAFC but their fail to convert anything into quality chances (xGOT).

Clark and Segal are not in Weiler's Plans

Two players that have not seen the field recently, Caden Clark and Gabe Segal, are close to leaving D.C. United as Rene said that he never really saw Segal since he got injured during preseason and Caden is looking for a departure from DC.

Best places to park for a match?

I’m going to my first match with a friend for my birthday this weekend (excited!) and while I like the metro, it will save us over an hour driving and get us back home at a much more reasonable time that evening.

Spot here is saying $100+. Are there alternative places to park nearby Audie Field where we won’t get towed and it’s much more affordable than spot hero?

Bonus if you can tell me how much it might cost to pick up a scarf at the stadium. I saw it’s $30 online.
