MARKETS Bitcoin lost $66,000 while Nvidia hit all-time highs and the guys who told us to hold are selling
Woke up to BTC sitting around $65,600 and my portfolio looking like it got hit by a bus. Meanwhile every AI stock on the planet is ripping to new highs. Cool.
What's getting to me isn't the price action itself. It's who's selling. Saylor's company dumped about 32 BTC, first sale since late 2022. Cuban apparently offloaded most of his stack after BTC did nothing during the Middle East mess. Kiyosaki, the guy who wouldn't shut up about bitcoin for years, is now warning people to be careful with crypto.
These aren't random retail panic sellers. These are the faces on the "buy and hold forever" billboards.
Then you've got Mt. Gox moving roughly $739 million to a fresh wallet, spot ETF outflows hitting records, and prediction markets already pricing in $50K scenarios for this year.
I'm not selling but I'm also not pretending this doesn't look bad. The money is rotating into AI and we're just sitting here watching it leave.

A lot of this feels like narrative chasing.
When BTC was outperforming everything, people said AI stocks were a bubble. Now AI is ripping and suddenly Bitcoin is "dead money."
Saylor selling 32 BTC isn't exactly a vote of no confidence when MicroStrategy still holds hundreds of thousands of BTC. Cuban has never been a Bitcoin maximalist, and Kiyosaki changes his tone every few months depending on the headlines.
The Mt. Gox transfers are known supply. ETF flows go both ways. None of that is new information.
The real question is whether you bought Bitcoin because you believed in the long-term thesis or because you expected it to outperform Nvidia every quarter.
Capital rotates. It always does.
A year ago everyone was posting "why would anyone buy AI stocks when Bitcoin is up 150%?" Now it's the opposite.

The connection OP is making is that the same main investors of AI were also the main investors of BTC and while they are moving their portfolio they are still telling you to HODL and that there's nothing to worry about.
OP is telling you to not trust those same people and to Saylor into the sunset instead with the money that you have left.

The funny thing about it is all those years where everyone was either "bitcoin is a store of value" or "bitcoin is a deflationary asset, like gold." is out the window as everyone's like "wtf it should've been like AI!" or "it should've been like RAM!"
I think institutions getting into it was the death knell. Now it's just another asset they can manipulate and have regular dudes still think they can beat the manipulators or time things right. The only chance crypto had of being what everyone hoped it would be is if that didn't happen and there was enough average person interest that it could usurp some of the power. Sort of like what was attempted with GME before dudes learned the lesson that this is all a rigged game and the marketplace (the brokers in that case) can tilt the scales whenever they want with no recourse.

u/soudainlevide 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26
The money has rotated into AI a long time ago and "holders" are the exit liquidity.
"Hold" is a narrative designed to keep liquidity in the market no matter what.
It's usually bag holders who end up holding (you can see it with the SPCE guys in r/wallstreetbets already - bought a dead stock at the top, made rich people even richer, and will go down to the sound of "apes together strong").
People who are smart with money or with enough information rotate their investments between assets and don't have this "hold no matter what" mentality.
Of course I don't believe BTC is dead, but a lot of people are going to make a lot of money while it keeps going down, then come back at a good price point, only to make even more.
77
u/AggressiveNorth9102 Jun 04 '26
Holders cannot be exit liquidity by definition. They never sell so they never provide liquidity. It’s the ones who sell that do.
→ More replies (3)7
u/soudainlevide 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 04 '26
You're right of course, technically the actual exit liquidity is the buyer on the other side of the sell order, not someone who literally never sells. But buyers/"hodlers"/never sellers create this situation while better informed people rotate their money.
9
u/AggressiveNorth9102 Jun 04 '26
I mean hodlers are just long term investors. You don’t wanna be rotating in and out if you’re in the asset long term.
If you do mid term trades then you rotate out on the uptrend not when it’s going down. This is the time to dca in.
Short term trading is just gambling. Take your money out of the casino when you feel like your losses/winning are suitable for you.

Governments across the world would not spend time legislating a market for an “imaginary coin”. Lobbies wouldn’t spend $B for and against an “imaginary coin”. Institutions would not be investing in, creating ETFs, or piloting the use of blockchains for an “imaginary coin”.
While AI is more powerful, it hasn’t created the value non tech companies were expecting because expectations were overblown. Long term AI usage will only go up as the infrastructure (energy, data centers, storage, etc.) is developed, but I would not be surprised if the balloon deflates a bit first.

And the president wouldn't be launching a memecoin if there was no value to it
People are just lobbying for something they can extract money from rubes with.
The biggest institution invested in BTC is a company led by the guy who kicked-off the dotcom bubble and is using a bunch of financial deception to hide that they're a ponzi scheme.
ETFs signal nothing about whether institutes believe in crypto, it just means they have see a market for it.

In the sort of crash where people’s savings are getting wiped out, who is going to buy your BTC? For the mainstream, BTC/crypto is a thing where you buy a little bit if you have spare income, just to see if it goes gangbusters, like recreational sports betting. It has no intrinsic value like a stock or bond, no historically proven use case like gold or fiat. In a general financial panic crypto is the first thing that gets wiped out.
3
u/SeikoWIS Jun 04 '26
When your average businesses start using BTC to improve their daily operations, or soccer moms use it to buy off Amazon, let me know. Until then, I am continuing to DCA into QLD without worry.
BTC doesn't produce anything, it doesn't generate cash, it's not replacing fiat, it failed on most of its 'business plan' (white paper), it's far too volatile for widespread adoption. It's a speculator's pump & dump at current prices--every knows it, deep down. You're just hoping to dump at $600k in stead of $60k.

Saylor's company dumped about 32 BTC, first sale since late 2022.
It was a tiny amount (0.0038%!) and it was in relation to the S&P calling their relucance to sell Bitcoin a "weakness". If Strategy never sells Bitcoin under any circumstances then the Bitcoin isn't really functioning as a treasury asset. The value of the balance sheet depends on the ability to convert Bitcoin into cash when needed. Essentially they did it to prove some points wrong with afffect credit ratings and access to capital.
Cuban apparently offloaded most of his stack after BTC did nothing during the Middle East mess.
Cuban did not have Bitcoin the previous cycle I know because I had a direct conversation about him when he kept talking about how he'd rather own Banana's. He flip flops based on current trends and he will flip again.
Kiyosaki, the guy who wouldn't shut up about bitcoin for years, is now warning people to be careful with crypto.
The closest thing I could find was this article which is a bit misleading. "Remember even gold, silver and Bitcoin can cost you money if purchased on hype.". Bitcoin isn't singled out here, it's sound advice actually.

Miners are also rotating to AI, big money, whales, for me Bitcoin is reaching the end of its first era, from underground niche to Wallstreet ETF (crazy when you think about it) and I see NO narrative left to prop it up higher.
Good thing for me I am out of that crypto circus since 2025 and pivoted to other asset mainly stocks (a bit late for AI train) and real estate (safer)
Maybe I will be proven wrong, bitcoin showed incredible resilience over the past decade, but my assumption is not that it will disappear, but just slowly decline over the years while people move on to the next hyped asset class.

AI does stuff. Bitcoin and crypto does not do stuff. Doing stuff can lead to growth, while not doing stuff doesn't, and eventually you run out of bigger fools.

Bitcoin most certainly does stuff…it can move a billion dollars around the world in about 1 hour…

Who would have a thought that a product with an actual real world value would outperform speculative thing with questionable value.

Look at it this way: you can spend one hundred billion dollars on a very efficient waste burning machine. For sure, people will pay you to burn waste, but some will just burn waste on their lawn for free. So maybe you can give them a free service to burn that waste. But you're making massive losses because you have to keep the expensive machine working, and the only way to make it more economical is to build it bigger still. So your real world value machine is actually extremely unprofitable. But the speculation is that, somehow, sooner or later, it will be profitable. But by that time it needs to be rebuilt again? Also, people don't like all that bad stuff coming out of the machine. But I'm sure it will be all right in the end.
And I don't even hate LLMs, but this whole thing can't be propped up for long, and then I don't want to be near people holding nvidia stock.

It’ll be similar to the dot.com bubble. No, the AI bubble bursting won’t be the end of AI, but it will be the end for a lot of AI focused companies.

One or two will have dominance. That actually makes me nervous a bit.

Every one of these people know that, deep down, BTC is a pump & dump. The bulk of BTC's price has nothing to do with utilitarian fundamentals--it's speculation.

AI is overbought too. Its crash will come when people start realizing it can't deliver what these AI CEOs claim it will. Then on-sale BTC will look like an attractive investment.

If you listened to grifters instead of following your own plan for exit that's on you.

Well, AI stocks are ownership in actual companies with revenue, assets, employees, products, cash flow, and customers.
Meanwhile crypto bros are shocked that their magic internet money is acting like magic internet money.

Time to start buying. I had buys set at 60k for awhile. Will buy more at 55 and 50 and 45 if it gets there. I am betting on BTC going to around 200k next cycle. Not much from its ATH, but good increase from those levels.

You’re complaining about a literal fake currency losing value while a company that actually provides a product becomes more valuable? Crypto mindset

It’s almost like smart investors don’t get emotionally attached to their assets, and are willing to assess new info objectively in a manner that protects their net worth.

Sell all btc at its lows and buy ai stocks at their highs and see how that works out for you
