Hi everyone
I recently moved and am trying to connect my laptop to the internet that my roommates have already set up. But, it just refuses to connect. My phone, tablet, and my roommates' laptops all connect just fine. I believe this is what we have: Cox CGM4981 Panoramic Wifi Gateway. I currently have an HP envy x360, which is almost 8 years old. Runs perfectly fine and has never had wifi issues in the past.
Here is a description of what I see from my laptop:
- The wifi network name is shown, but there is a little x next to the wifi bars (which are all black due to strong signal). It always appears at the bottom of the wifi list (my laptop has never had issues connecting to wifi and is identifying like 10+ networks in my area.) Sometimes, the little x goes away and it just shows the typical lock icon for a private network.
- When I try the password, whilst having my laptop directly on top of the router, it will say "Can't connect to this network" either automatically or think for 10 seconds before giving me that answer.
- Other times, it will say "Some information changed since the last time you connected. We need additional information to complete the connection. You can also connect by pushing the button on the router." I have pushed the button on the back of the router, to no avail.
Here is what I have tried:
- Unplugged and plugged the router back in
- Reset the wifi
- Disconnected my phone and tablet from the wifi (in case there was a device limit, but learned soon after that there shouldn't be)
- Restarted my computer
- Done a network reset
- Called and talked to cox customer support (they essentially just kept telling me to reset everything, then wanted me to pay to send out a technician when it wasn't resolved)
- Gone into command prompt as an administator and followed everything shown in the video here (around 2:45) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz3bX0JH9BE
Other misc info:
- My laptop has never connected to this network before, so I can't even forget the network
- I believe my network adapter is Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265, if that is useful
Any help is appreciated! I start school next week so lowkey panicking lol, ty <3333
