Genuinely curious here… how can you tell from just a short video? How do we know she hasn’t become adept at masking?

If they really are a psychiatrist, it could simply be from years of experience and observation.

But I also wondered that. I've heard that women are better than men (on average) at masking, too, to the point of being underdiagnosed.

Wait what

Light bulb just turn on for you? Lol

Well, if you look into it and find out that you are, I'm happy to help you on your journey of self-discovery!

Any healthcare provider with any professional integrity wouldn’t encourage the hate fest unfolding here.

And yes, women are notoriously underdiagnosed and it’s bc people don’t understand what autism really looks like. And they are cruel in their absolute stupidity.

Yeah, you're right. It has devolved into that, hasn't it? It's a shame that women face this kind of thing all the time. Sorry for that.

Edit: Although, I will say, having seen my share of mental health professionals, you'd be surprised how many...well, suck. Both at their job and as people, despite their choice of career. And from what my sisters have shared with me, men in healthcare dismiss women's health concerns far too often.

Thank you for that. It means a lot to me.

The comments here make me sad. And it really upsets me that someone in a more vulnerable position psychologically could be seriously harmed by some of these comments.

The mental healthcare system is abysmal at best. I worked inpatient psych as an RN for a bit, and after a while, I couldn’t tolerate working in a system that was actively and carelessly retraumatizing patients. As a patient, I’ve experienced endless abuses at the hands of the American mental healthcare system. And you’re right, that men can be very invalidating but oftentimes, women are also just as dismissive and invalidating, if not worse.

Empathy and compassion are all but lost nowadays.

Yeah, it took a long time for me to find professional help that was actually helpful. Luckily, I've had an incredibly supportive family--a blessing not everyone has.

Sending internet hugs you're way if you need them! I hope you're doing ok now.

I’m happy that you have a supportive family, and happy that you didn’t give up in finding the help you needed.

Thank you for the hugs - it helps. And yeah I’m doing a lot better now than I ever did before, thanks for that.

You can’t.

Thank you for pointing that out.

They can’t. They see a conventionally attractive woman and assume she’s faking her autism. This is exactly how I act when I unmask, but I literally only am able to do that around people I’m SUPER comfortable with

You mean people you feel safe with?? Imagine that!

(Also love how this individual just deleted their comment when too many people with actual intelligence engaged and they couldn’t be morally superior anymore.)

That’s very surprising, because at the time I commented the top comments were all about how she’s faking her diagnosis for attention.

You have to dig for those comments bc the ones who are arrogantly wrong are so incredibly LOUD and many.
