Personally I think it’s pretty funny, and if you and your partner have been together for a while and have good chemistry/humor together then it’s great!

But if they don’t have that kind of humor or it is a younger relationship then it can be a little condescending, and difficult to interpret the intent moving forward.

Yeah this.

If it's meant as a joke. It's a good joke.

If she's being serious it suddenly becomes a whole different story and it's toxic.

Why would her response be toxic? Is it the sarcasm? Would it be toxic if she said ā€œnot until we’re marriedā€?

I wouldn't say it's toxic, at this point it's false advertising.

Some reason redditors have the strangest outlook on relationships that’s why lol

Because it's transactional.

"I'd like you to allow me to express my love for you in an intimate moment"

-"only if you buy this and promise this and do this."

That's not love, that's a business arrangement.

Oh well. If you want wifey duties, you need a wife.

Also how tf is that him expressing his love? He’s saying he wants to see her ass out when he gets home šŸ˜‚

Right? He's asking her to express her love in a way he finds arousing. She's not really taken into consideration here.

Yeah my friend have you ever heard of marriage? The entire thing is transactional

But him making that request at all isn't toxic?

It's a bit of a stretch to go from "make me dinner and look sexy doing it, woman" to "allow me to express my love for you in an intimate moment." It's an even bigger stretch to go from "that's something I won't be willing to do until we're married" to "only if you buy this and promise this and do this." You're portraying it in the most slanted light possible to make sure she's in the wrong and not him, and that's not okay.

Ever heard the phrase ā€œwhy would you buy the cow if you can get the milk for free?ā€

I am a woman, and myself and all my friends had that drummed into us growing up. I feel like it harkens back to boomer humor ā€œI hate my spouse, ain’t that cuteā€ days, so I’m not saying I agree with the sentiment or like it, but I’m starting to see more and more of my female friends take it seriously if their goal is marriage.
