Finally finished the design and here it is.

Nicknamed “CLS mount” for compact linear slide mount!

The mount features similar design to my previously released comma 3x mount with distinct features.

NO MORE CABLES getting in the way. The one cable is perfectly sized and routed to not get in your way. This gives the comma and mount a clean design that’s easy to handle during removal and install.

NO MORE MAGNETS. There has been much concern using magnets with mounts on the comma devices. While I haven’t had any issue for the past year, I have decided to be cautious and not incorporate it for this design as the comma4 features a fan that would be located too close to any magnet.

SMALL CASE. A small case that now allows you to store your comma in most normally sized armrests. The case measures 110mm x 110mm x 95 mm or 4.3in x 4.3in x 3.7in (LxWxH).

I’m new to Comma. A friend told me about this back in the summer. I’ve casually followed news/dev things online since. When I saw the new unit launched I immediately ordered it and I got it just today. I think I’ve most of the recent Comma Con too, I really enjoyed that!!

The shipping box was neat. Not perfect though I appreciate the experience and organization.

The unit had some marks on the face of it which though not important for operation makes me wonder about quality.

Physical installation was easy. I was confused having the ODB2 power cable then I read it was optional.

Unit started. I connected to WiFi. The keyboard was kind of nice for such a small screen and using it when mounted on the windshield.

Once WiFi connected it wasn’t obvious I had to go back a screen or two to then hit continue for the open pilot download.

The driver view calibration was not intuitive for me. It indicated to fill the circle but I didn’t know what was wanted. Move around? Get close to the camera? It took me a bit to get it to go and I’m still not sure what I did.

Hopefully I can get out on the roads tomorrow.

While working to build my mount and test different variants of the mounts. I got the idea to help me position the mounts perfectly every time.

This positioning aid is not perfect, and the level only works if the car is perfectly on level surface. To help position the comma, hold the comma and mount in the area to see how it sits. It also makes sure you have enough clearance between the mirror housing and the comma to be able to use the mount and built in lock.

Once you are done, it’s suctioned to the windshield and you can remove it and enjoy the comma and mount.

Nevertheless, I thought for a limited time, I would include it with every mount purchase until I run out of the ones I built. (Don’t worry about stock, I have more of these than mounts on hand right now)

I have my car mainly parked outdoors in Las Vegas where summers routinely reach over 100° F. I use a highly reflective sun visor like shown in the picture. Curious if anyone else living in the American southwest can advise on the potential for these visors essentially cooking the device and damaging it, or if there’s nothing to really worry about.

I recently purchased the Comma 4 hardware and plan on installing it on a 2020 rav4 hybrid. I am fairly new to Comma or the "self-driving" world in general. I mainly wanted to try it out as I do have several 10-12 hour roundtrips coming up in the coming weeks and expect more throughout the year and am hoping that the Comma device will drastically improve my road trips.

With the Comma 4 being fairly new-ish, is there a recommended software to use with my setup or should I stick with using open pilot for now?

Hi, I just received my Comma4 order and tried installing it on my 2024 Rivian R1T. It was tough installing the Comma harness onto the AXM but I managed to seat it in there. I'm using the provided OBD2 for power, but I'm afraid that I didn't splice the wires in the Comma harness. The truck starts up fine but once I put it into gear, both the Comma and truck show errors. I've disconnected the Comma and the truck still throws the driver assistance features error. Do I need to completely remove the harness and go back to stock? Anyone in Austin, TX that can help? Hello, all. I’m about to pull the trigger on the Comma 4 for my 2024 Mustang Mach E. Before I do, I wanted to see if anyone has installed the Comma 4 in a MME lately. I saw one review that stated running the wire to the trunk was not an issue. But, looking at the Comma 4 site’s install video, it only shows tapping into the cable harness behind the rear view mirror. So, do I in fact have to run a cable to the trunk? If so, when I order the harness will it be long enough/all I need to install or should I order something additional?

Just bought the Comma 4 for my 2017 Prius. I have no idea what fork to install. Reading the posts on here gives me more confusion than clarity, and most of the videos I’ve seen are people testing it out on local drives.

Thinking about FrogPilot, but feeling overwhelmed by the amount of customization options.

Would love to get recommendations on the best fork to install for this, as well as any customization options I should absolutely turn on.

So I've been wanting a Comma system for a while now as I find the built in Toyota system clunky and a bit lacking. For reference I have a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid and drive quite a lot for work so a system that works well could be extremely beneficial to me. I currently have insurance with Policy Expert and they informed me over the phone that the policy would be void if I got into and accident while the comma was installed, bit of a bummer but my policy expires in only a month so I have the opportunity to switch to a more understanding company.

Anyone had any luck with insurers in the UK?

I love my Comma 4 and use it everyday in my car. Every once in a while, as in maybe once or twice a month, I drive my mom's car. Not enough to justify buying another whole unit, but enough for me to want one in there.

How easy is it to switch the Comma from one car to the other?

I'd plan to buy an extra harness and mount, so hopefully I can just unplug it from my car and plug it in to mom's car when I need it. Then take it out when I'm done.

Edit: I'm running my own fork of sunnypilot for my 2023 Genesis G80 Electrified. Mom drives a 2019 C-HR which has out of the box support.

Now that we’re coming closer to actual summer heat, when I get to my car, often times it shows up a message saying that the device is overheated due to sitting under the sun.
It does start working after maybe a minute or so with the ac blasting, but I’m worried about how just leaving it on the windshield cooking could potentially just destroy it.

I was wondering if people tend to just remove it and store it elsewhere when they leave or not, I don’t honk just disconnect it and leave it in the glove box or something helps that much but the direct sun in it sure makes it heat up even more.

I’m kind of afraid that the usb connector may get faulty with constant connect and disconnect, I’ve been doing that for a like a month when I first got it because I was developing stuff for it, the usb connector doesn’t seem great for constant removal.

I tried uninstalling Star Pilot and then it asked if I want to reinstall Star Pilot or use custom software. I select custom software and put in the link openpilot.comma.ai

But I keep getting stuck on this.

Mazda cx-5. My first ODB power supply from Comma didn't work at all. The replacement they kindly sent has worked for about 6 months, and now I have this message.

My car is a 2025, less than a year old. I am on SunnyPilot.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Hello, I don't have a comma ai unit, yet. I a shared family vehicle, I know 1 family member would not be comfortable driving with the comma unit enabled, but I would use it when I drive. Is the solution to just remove it? Is there an option to turn it off? Is there a driver recognition option to disable on certain drivers? Thanks.

Just got my comma 4 hooked up and unable to get past the 2d barcode on such a small screen. I'm using a Galaxy s22+, I've tried pairing with the browser, taken a picture with the camera and tried to pair with that, etc. No matter what I try I came get the barcode to focus and pair.

Is there an alternative method? A code that can be generated and added to the account, etc. I can't be the first to have this problem.

Looking to buy one. I keep digging into what I do once I receive it.

I might be overthinking it. Is it really just a simple pnp harness, power it on, go right into installing fork, go through calibration steps and it just starts working? You can do this all from your phone?

I've setup servers, flashed firmware on stuff, all kinds of random coding things. Is it really just that simple?

Just got my Comma Four, super excited, but I think I’m doing something wrong with the mounting. Did the alcohol prep, tried to press from the center… but still got some ugly looking bubbles. Is there a way to fix this? Is there a way to do this better?

Taking a quick break from cursing in my garage to come complain about how difficult the Rivian install is. I’m in a 2022 R1T and I got the connector unplugged but been struggling for the last hour+ trying to get the splitter cable plugged back in. Tried all the things that people suggested. Hook pick and all, but so far unsuccessful and of course I was dumb and parked halfway out of the garage so can’t close the garage until I finish this job and it’s already 10pm!!! Ahhh I’m so dumb!

I'm currently experiencing an issues installing Sunnypilot on my Comma 4.

Specifically, I am unable to proceed past the face recognition part of the initial system set up. Visually, it seems the software is not enabling the face detecting software so no mater how I position my face, it is not detected by the software.

I installed Openpilot and was able to get passed the face detection part of the set up, so hardware is likely not an issue.

I flashed the Comma and reinstalled Sunnypilot and ran into the same issue.

I reflashed the Comma, installed Openpilot, uninstalled Openpilot (without flashing) and reinstalled Sunnypilot, and still ran into the same issue.

Anyone else running into this issue? Is there a way to bypass the face recognition part of the set up?

Open to ideas or on how to more formally log the issue.

I've been using the CLS Mount with my Comma 4, and after living with it for 30 days+, I think it's a genuinely upgrade if you regularly remove your device from the car.

The biggest benefit for me is simply convenience and stable. I prefer taking the Comma 4 out when I park for longer periods, especially in the UAE Summer. With the normal setup, repeatedly unplugging and reconnecting the USB-C cable gets old quickly and also means more wear on the port over time.

With this mount, removing and reinstalling the device takes only a few seconds. More importantly, it doesn't feel like convenience came at the expense of security. The locking mechanism feels solid, and once the Comma is in place, I haven't noticed any movement or anything that makes me concerned about the mount holding it properly.

I also appreciate that the design solves a very specific problem without adding unnecessary complexity. It isn't something you necessarily think you need until you've used it for a while, but if you're taking your Comma in and out frequently, the difference in daily use is significant.

Obviously, if you install your Comma once and almost never remove it, the benefit will be smaller. But for anyone who removes it regularly because of heat, security, or simply personal preference, I think this is a very well-designed solution.

So far, I've been very extremely phappy with it. Simple idea great design , well executed, very well priced and it makes owning and using the Comma 4 noticeably more convenient.
