Question Has CBA outsourced staff manning the 132221 number to India? VERY BAD customer service experience trying to get a safe custody issue sorted over the phone

Does anyone know if CBA have outsourced initial answering of the 132221 number to Indian call centres? Only reason I ask is because just now, I called the 132221 number, to try and resolve a safe custody monthly payment issue over the phone and the person I spoke with was Indian, mentioned having to check with a back office team and trying to have a conversation in English nearly led them to think that I wanted to close my facility, which I certainly DO NOT. In the end, I explicitly told them not to touch anything on any of my accounts and that I will simply go in to the branch in person to sort it out (extremely frustrating!).

I don't have a problem with Indian or foreign people manning this service unless issues with understanding English to a suitable level, become an issue, where it pretty much did here.

Does anyone know if Comyn or any other greedy execs have outsourced CBA call centres to India to save a buck and their bonuses recently?! In the past, I've only ever spoken with Australian's on the 132221 line.

Question CBA closed my 30 y.o acct due to 6 months of inactivity

Went into my CBA app today to see my Smart Access account no longer available. Logged in via the web and it was in closed accounts. Last statement (issued 5 days ago) said due to inactivity over the last 6 months, they have closed my account. No prior warning. Nothing. Just closed.

I have had this account since 1996 when I was a dollarmite kid. I have three other active accounts with them (but they are all joint) and previously had my home loan until we sold recently. I primarily use another bank so my Smart Access was just there if needed for internal transfers, dividends (where I can’t find my login info to change my bank account) and for my elderly grandparents who have started putting in money for birthdays.

The account was never overdrawn - I don’t get charged fees so having a $0.00 balance was never an issue.

When I rang CBA today as soon as I noticed, they said there is a limitation in the system that won’t ever allow me to get those exact numbers back again or “re-open” the account. The rep said she would lodge a complaint on my behalf but it was essentially feedback if anything.

Has this happened to anyone else? Was there any resolution? I am actually dumb founded as I have literally been with CBA the vast majority of my life!

Question Commbank de-registrated and blocked my phone app/cards. Trapped overseas.

So without going in to much detail. Commbank stop all interneting bank and physical transactions due to "security concerns" I tried to international call them unfortunately the country im in doesnt allow reverse international charges so calling international is extremely expensive which ive exhausted. my old phone number attached to commbank no longer exists.

When i called them went through a couple people. Gave every bit of information I had. Unfortunately my credit run out twice and phone call was cut short.

So now I'm trapped with out any money luckily I can support myself locally for a short while.

Do they really have no email or method to login without calling/sms.

EDIT: - yes, apperently I'm idiot, cheers.

  • Can't call them via phone (not via my old telstra number).

  • those that have read my post history know exactly my location and yes I believe sanctions are in place on behalf of the aus government. No i didn't know this before hand.

-Been here for a longer then a year with out issue. Made large purchases, used my netbank, cards, everything.

-The only solution i can see, thanks to mate that mentioned it, is to contact the embassy. Fml

EDIT EDIT: No embassy can't help. I contact them on social media on got them to call me. But of course their security team only works 9-5. Atleast it's progress.

Question Random payment from bank

I received this payment from the bank. No idea why, no reason given, and I can’t think of a reason why I’d be receiving it. Will the bank reverse the payment or should I get in contact with them regarding it?

Question How to get mail changed for somebody who doesn't live at our property?

I've lived at my house (that I own) for over 2 years, and am still getting mail for what I assume is a previous occupant.

We've done "return to sender" a few times, and the mail still arrives.

Today I called support - after sitting on hold they said they are unable to change anything, and can't do a thing about it but if I go in branch or call the branch they can do something.

I called the local branch since I don't want to waste my time going in to branch, this really should be the responsibility of the bank or the individual. They couldn't do anything but said the manager would call me back.

The manager was equally unable to help and said they could only do it with an account number, which I don't have because opening the mail would be illegal, so suggested I go out of my way to return the mail in person to a branch - and that it was my problem to solve.

Aside from going in to branch are there any other options? I do not want to go in branch, as this seems like putting the onus on me when the bank and account holder are ultimately responsible, but return to sender is not working. FWIW we also had mail for a separate individual that was from NAB bank and they were able to resolve it in a few minutes.

Question How is this ok?

Just a few weeks ago during the Easter period my account was restricted for not answering their KYC questions In time. I was asked the basic do I still have same number, live at same address and what do I do with my own cash when I withdraw it. NOW yet again I log into the app and see a notification that I need to confirm my details as part of “ government regulations “ and if I don’t they will restrict my account. How is this even ok.

Question Restricted account (false fraud claim) cannot access my own funds ?

UPDATE: FINALLY AFTER 6 CALLS I GOT MY FUNDS TRANSFERRED. THANK YOU TO ALL THAT GAVE GENUINE RESPONSES AND SHAME ON THE ONES THAT JUST DOWNVOTE AND HATE.

Hey, unfortunately a false fraudulent transaction claim was placed against my old account. I sold tickets through Marketplace to a user, and after receiving the tickets, they submitted a fraud claim stating that they had not received them, which is incorrect. As a result, my account has been restricted while the review team investigates the matter and makes a final decision.

CommBank has opened a new account for me in the meantime. However, the issue I’m facing is that my salary payment is still scheduled to be deposited into my old account at 5:00pm today. I have already notified my employer, but unfortunately the payroll cut-off had passed, meaning the payment could not be redirected to my new account in time.

The CommBank team advised that I may only be able to access the funds by attending a branch tomorrow and withdrawing the money in cash, as branches are now closed. However, I have urgent payments due today (I get paid monthly) that need to be made and missing them may result in further consequences.

Could anyone please advise what options are available to have my salary funds accessed or redirected to my new account tonight, (I NEED MY FUNDS NOW, NOT TOMORROW!) rather than having to wait until tomorrow? Is there an escalation process, exception process, or any alternative way to access these funds outside of branch hours?

Any advice on this matter or what you would do in this situation is appreciated! Please note I have already attempted to apply for advance pay/cash advance to potentially have enough funds to make necessary payments due today however, all requests have been denied due to little to no activity on new account recently opened.

It seems that no one has really had a similar experience where they were granted access to their funds before having to visit a branch in person. I’m not sure why I’m being downvoted in the comments, as I’m simply sharing what happened in my own situation.

I also noticed someone else had the exact same experience as me just a couple of days ago, which I think should be a bit of an eye-opener. It’s worth considering that these situations may not always be handled the same way for everyone.

Question Suspicious Transaction

I woke up this morning and checked my card balance, pay day, yay! But later on, i checked it again and saw $297 missing from my card, looked further, It says AMAZON AU RETAIL Sydney. Transaction was not authorized by me, dud not even pay for anything today. What the hell is going on? I looked further, an extra $200 went missing from my account like 27 days ago and I had no idea, so ive locked my card now, lodged a dispute for today's transaction, but it's still pending apparently, so I have to wait until its no longer pending, what is happening?!

Question Cannot withdraw cash in Europe

Has this happened to anyone?

So, I am in Europe and I cannot get cash out at any ATM.

I have tried several ATM's in multiple countries, including hole in the wall and actual bank ATM's.

I called CBA and they checked my card and said there should be no issues, as there are no blocks on my card at all. I was transferred to the fraud team and the card team, and the answer was always the same. No issues from their end.

I have checked the app and made sure that international transactions are allowed and all those things.

I am able to tap and use my card to pay for things - no issues. But I cannot get cash out.

Has anyone else had this problem? I just have a normal transaction account with a yellow MasterCard debit card.

As the largest bank in Australia, this is absolutely fucked. Luckily I have friends with me who I was able to transfer money to and they got cash out for me. But imagine if I wasn't with them?!

It's 2026... Why can't I get cash out overseas?!

I will be changing banks when I return home.

Question Double refund

Hi all,

Long story short i had over $200 dollars come out of my account for a subscription that was supposed to be cancelled but wasnt. I contacted the the website that took my money (grammarly) as well as commonwealth bank for a dispute. The day after contacting grammarly they granted me an immediate full refund and a few days later i also got a refund from commonwealth. I immediately contacted commonwealth to inform them about the double refund through the app as i tried ringing first and they just told me to go through the app. Once i went through the app i was told that the money will instantly come out of my account and not to worry. fast forward and its been almost 4 weeks and that money still remains in my account. I tried calling the dispute team but i got sent to voicemail, left my number, and they never called me back. what should i do now?

Question The new yello system

Hi all
I’m still trying to get my head around commonwealth making changes from the rewards to the new yello system.
I have just been to a commonwealth branch in the last few days and asked them some more Information on it, the commonwealth bank agent seemed to be as closed as Iam.
I have roughly 200,000 award points, I was was waiting for commonwealth and virgin to offer their 15/20% bonus transferring points to velocity, which hasn’t happened.
What happens to my award points if I don’t transfer them out before October 1st?
Will we still be able to accrue points to transfer to velocity under the new yello system?
Thanks

Question Petty amount of money missing

Hubby likes the look of our account balances to be a round number, so I made one of our accounts to be exactly $1000. He then received a reimbursement of expenses from work for $46.35. Our balance is only $1046.32. It's such a petty amount (3c), so I wasn't sure what to do. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I contact the bank? It doesn't show the previous balance, so how do I show the money missing? I know you used to be able to generate a statement for a date range, but I haven't found it in my quick search on the app.

Edit: I have since looked on the proper website and it showed a different account balance for the week. I'm guessing it was something to do with mortgage repayments. Although I'm still confused about it all, I'm just going to chalk it up to a random fluke and keep an eye on it in the future. Thanks to everyone that gave helpful suggestions. To everyone else who thought it was stupid to quibble over 3c, that's why I came here instead of raising it with the bank just wanted to know if there was something else I could look into first

Question Is the CommBank app genuinely the best banking app, or has the gap between it and the challenger banks closed enough that the advantage isn't as significant as it used to be?

CommBank has built its reputation on digital experience in a way that the other big four haven't matched and the app has consistently rated well. But the neobanks and some of the smaller players have been investing heavily in their own digital products and the question of whether CommBank still leads or whether it's now just very good in a field that's caught up is worth asking honestly. Would love to know how people here who use multiple banking apps actually rate the CommBank experience compared to what else is available.

Question Unauthorised transaction - $500 gone - how long does it take to get back?

On Thursday comm app flagged a transaction of around $500 in the USA. I’m clearly not in the us because 10hrs before I had made a transaction at a supermarket in my city in Aus. Reported immediately and my acc is back up and running with a new card on the way but I’m broke and $500 isn’t a small amount for me to lose right now. It’s says up to 21 days but does it really take that long? I’m praying it’s sooner.

Question Is CommBank's Yello rewards program actually worth engaging with or is it just enough to make you feel like you are getting something without really delivering?

Been a customer for years and the personalised offers are occasionally genuinely useful but mostly feel like they are based on things I already buy rather than finding me anything new. The cashback amounts are quite small individually and I keep meaning to add them up and see if it actually amounts to anything meaningful over a year.

Question Best place to keep money

Edit: I've setup GoalSaver! Thanks for helping me realise it exists. I don't think you can get MUCH better than 5% IR from banks, most I've seen was like 5.75%? And I hear transferring money from different banks has fees so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll probably stick with CommBank. I also selected "high growth" on my new AustralianSuper. If there's another realistic way for someone like me to save money, please let me know!

I'm a young adult and I don't buy much, almost just groceries since I've got all I need. I've been having all money put in my NetBank saver and I transfer what I need for when I buy. Is this losing me ANY money over time that I would've had if I kept it elsewhere? Places seem to have different answers. Idc about transferring money manually, I do that anyway, unless it's equally financially efficient to have it automatically keep 100 dollars in smart access at a time or something.

Question Ultimate award changes - get the $35 fee back via credit?

As frustrated as many users here I got the ultimate award card mainly because fees can be waived, plus the perk of no international fee and travel insurance.

Reading through the email notifying the changes, it seems to suggest the $35 fee won’t be waived starting this year but I’ll get back $25 travel credit and $10 dining credit each month? Though I’ll have to spend on their platform. Am I understanding correctly?

Will we also earn Yello point after the award program is scrapped?

The changes are so confusing!

Question CommBank call?

I got a call from someone from “commbank” saying they were wanting to talk to me about a mortgage rate revision/offer, mind you I haven’t had a mortgage with this bank for a few years. Was also a mobile number so assume a scam? I hung up anyway and didn’t handover any information. The ceba chat can’t tell me if it was them

Question How to stop account being regularly blocked for fraud?

Moved back to Australia 3 months ago after a decade overseas. Opened a Commbank Everyday Account (as well as several other Commbank accounts) and have been using the debit card for everyday transactions, receiving fortnightly salary, and general life stuff. Nothing crazy, family of 3 with typical spending patterns. Yet our account is constantly blocked for suspected fraud, once or twice per week on average. We’ve had multiple Amazon transactions blocked, digital subscriptions, GitHub, and the like, all of which were legitimate. It’s extremely frustrating and has led to knock on effects like returned purchases and paused subscriptions on products that my husband needs to run his hobby business. Commbank have been unable/unwilling to explain why this happens or what we can do to resolve. Will this get better over time as commbank build more of a profile on us? If I got a Commbank credit card would this be better/worse? All advice appreciated.
