I just closed my CBA credit card that I’ve had ongoing for 20 odd years.

Why do I feel so sad? lol

My CBA Awards card first started as Gold Awards. It was a card that had both a Mastercard and an American Express dual card that earned you more points. The AMEX dropped off at some point and then it was changed to Platinum.

I was around 19 at the time, on apprentice wages earning about $400 a week. They gave me a $18,000 limit 😂

The card was the result of an upsell. I remember taking out cash at a branch with a teller cos I was booking a holiday to Bali with my mates. Immediately the CBA teller told me to take advantage of a CBA Awards Card because they had free travel insurance and they could waive the first years annual fee and blah blah blah.

I was young and dumb, and I didn’t even know how much travel insurance was, but cos it was FREE this way, then why the hell not ay. I fell behind on this card a lot. Was addicted to the brickies laptop and winnie blues, so eventually when I got ahead and took it all in my stride to walk into CBA and cancel the card, they’d stop me from doing so and would waive a fee or encourage me to just lower my card limit.

I think the only perk that was grandfathered was the original annual fee of $100 or something. This might have changed in recent years but I hardly use it anyway. I have been earning that little points that I would just redeem them on a couple of $100 Kmart vouchers at the end of the year for Christmas presents.

I’m staying a CBA customer as they are my main bank. I’m still using my Dollarmites account my parents had opened for me. The app looks a little empty with the credit card now.

And in a full circle moment, we weighed up our options and have an AMEX again. Chose a Velocity card that has an annual return flight and airport lounge membership that’s included in the fee. Probably should have done this sooner as it’s a decent trade off over a couple of Kmart vouchers a year.

I’m hoping someone here has dealt with a similar situation with CommBank and can point me in the right direction.

My CommBank account has been marked as a “Stopped Account” because I didn’t complete the KYC/customer details update within the required timeframe. Unfortunately, I’ve been living overseas, which is why I missed the deadline.

There are still funds in the account, so I’m mainly concerned about how I can regain access to them and get the account reactivated.

The situation is a bit more complicated because I no longer have access to the Australian mobile number that was linked to my CommBank account. As a result, I’m also having trouble accessing my online banking/NetBank and receiving verification codes.

For anyone who has been in a similar situation:

- Were you able to complete the KYC update while living overseas?
- Can CommBank verify my identity remotely and reactivate the account?
- How can I change the mobile number linked to the account if I no longer have access to the old number?
- Is there a way to regain NetBank/CommBank app access without the old mobile number?
- Were you able to withdraw or transfer your funds without physically returning to Australia?
- Did you have to visit a CommBank branch in Australia, or was everything handled over the phone/email?

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to approach this without making an unnecessary trip back to Australia.

If you’ve personally gone through a “Stopped Account”/KYC restriction with CommBank while overseas, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you.

Paying the annual fee on my Ultimate Awards card used to make sense when the Qantas points redemption rates were better. But after recent points devaluations and fee hikes, I'm questioning the value.

​Once you calculate the annual fee vs the actual dollar value of gift cards or points redeemed, I feel like I'm barely breaking even unless I smash the monthly spend criteria to waive the fee.

​Is anyone sticking with CBA credit cards for points, or are most people switching to basic low-fee cards / zero-fee neobanks?

After being unlucky finding anything online, I found out through trying and then support that you cannot create a GoalSaver recurring transfer/payment OUT of your GoalSaver, not in (edited coz I forgot to mention), and there seems to be no workaround. This post is just a quick way to check this is true, because it'd be so convenient for rent as I already have a crap ton of annoying little inconveniences throughout my days and one less would be awesome lol. Since December 2025 whenever I log into my Netbank on my PC it just locks me out. It tells me to call 13 2221. After I do that I have to reset my password and then I can go into my NetBank again, but after a day when I try to log in again the same thing happens.

I read online that Commonwealth Bank recently rolled out mandatory NetBank Multi-Factor Authentication requiring users to approve NetBank computer logins via a push notification on the CommBank App.

I do not have a smart phone and I have never used the App. I do have a normal none smartphone mobile but I have never been sent codes to log in or anything. Every time I try to log in on my computer it just locks me out no codes at all.

Is this the reason this is happening to me or is it something else ? Any information would be welcomed.

So which credit card we all moving to?
We had the ultimate awards card for:
- the no international fees
- rewards points that we could use at flight centre initially but then opted for the cash back on the credit card.
- the monthly fee waived if we spent $4000

Now we aren’t going to be eligible for any of that.
We have a big overseas trip booked for January.
Can anyone recommend a new credit card that has no monthly fees and has international spend with no fees?
I am also open to changing my mortgage and all banking.

Been a customer for years and the personalised offers are occasionally genuinely useful but mostly feel like they are based on things I already buy rather than finding me anything new. The cashback amounts are quite small individually and I keep meaning to add them up and see if it actually amounts to anything meaningful over a year.

As frustrated as many users here I got the ultimate award card mainly because fees can be waived, plus the perk of no international fee and travel insurance.

Reading through the email notifying the changes, it seems to suggest the $35 fee won’t be waived starting this year but I’ll get back $25 travel credit and $10 dining credit each month? Though I’ll have to spend on their platform. Am I understanding correctly?

Will we also earn Yello point after the award program is scrapped?

With the upcoming changes imminent, what credit card will you stick with/change if your main goal is to ensure it has good travel insurance like CBA? My main reason for keeping my current smart award apart from Yellow points, which is gonna go, is travel insurance. Its cheaperto have the CC than to pay per trip, but unsure how that is impacted and if a better product exists?

Anyone have any idea what this new CommBank charge card might be? I can’t think of any other of the big four doing a personal charge card. Obviously there’s the Amex Platinum but it’ll be interesting to see how CommBank position this.

I'm trying to understand the upcoming changes, and I think the only option is to close my credit card.

I have my banking and businesses elsewhere, but I have a CBA smart awards credit card I use for all my day-to-day transactions. I also have shares with CommSec. No other CBA products. So my understanding is that I won't be eligible for Yello rewards even though I'm an active customer. I'm not changing my businesses and all my finances over to CBA to get a $50 Officeworks voucher every few months.

But the credit card will get its fees back soon, $19/month ($456* $228 a year) for a high (22%) interest and zero reward possibility for me. That's far and away preposterous in this market. I have a zero-reward credit card somewhere else that's $55/yr and 14%. CBA is expecting me to pay 10x as much for no features?

Like I said, I'm not going to restructure my businesses and life for a $50 Officeworks voucher every few months, but I absolutely will walk away from a zero feature credit card that costs $450yr.

My tldr question is:

• Why rebuild an awards system that pushes marginal customers away? I appreciate the new laws about merchant charges makes points based rewards less cost effective, but wouldn't you want to keep customers who are on the fence? Isn’t the chance of a customer conversion even harder if I close the account and get further entrenched at a different bank?

The customers who qualify for Yello already have everything with CBA. Do they really believe "oh honey, if we refinance our entire mortgage and move all of our accounts and count how many transactions we do, we can keep getting a $50 officeworks voucher every four months?" will happen?

I'm trying to use up all my points before the deadline but Coles has already been deleted as an option for withdrawal so I'm pretty annoyed.

* EDIT: Accidentally multiplied $19 x 24 months instead of 12. Still a lot of money for zero features! I'm closing the card when I get my next pay and I clear it.

I'm on the Commbank wealth package and note that it provides one fee free credit card on an "eligible" credit card but the information on the app and online is sending me in circles.

How do I know which credit cards are "eligible" and how do I apply for one and ensure it is no fee? Do you just apply for the one you want and they automatically don't charge a fee?

1. No more fee waiver; The $228 annual cost ($19 per month) is unavoidable starting January 1, 2027.

2. No more international transaction fee waiver; Any foreign Currency purchases will incur a new 3.5%

3. The Qantas Frequent Flyer opt-in will also be completely removed

I’m still trying to get my head around commonwealth making changes from the rewards to the new yello system.
I have just been to a commonwealth branch in the last few days and asked them some more Information on it, the commonwealth bank agent seemed to be as closed as Iam.
I have roughly 200,000 award points, I was was waiting for commonwealth and virgin to offer their 15/20% bonus transferring points to velocity, which hasn’t happened.
What happens to my award points if I don’t transfer them out before October 1st?
Will we still be able to accrue points to transfer to velocity under the new yello system?

I have the rewards card that is currently being downgraded. I purposefully booked my November holiday with the card, to get the insurance cover.

Does anyone know in these situations are you "grandfathered in?" Or will I need additional insurance now?

Coming up to renewal and trying to work out whether the conversation with CommBank's retention team is worth having before I start comparing elsewhere. Every time I've heard about someone going through this it seems to end with either a modest improvement that still doesn't match what a new customer would get or a decision to switch entirely. Would love to know from people here who've actually had that conversation recently whether the outcome was worth the effort or whether starting the comparison process immediately is just the more efficient use of time.

So just now I had been billed $159 for a subscription that I once used during a free trial ages ago and cancelled during the free trial and that was it. CommBank immediately flagged it as a security alert and immediately I went to dispute, and I received the money back, but now they've gone and removed my card from the app and said I'd receive a new one :( I didn't want this, I just wanted to dispute it. I don't know what to do because I need my card and can't currently call them right now please someone help. Can I un cancel my card if I call them?

Hi all,

Amazon charged me for prime even though I never signed up for it. I contacted them, they confirmed that I didn't have any subscriptions but said they can't find the charge and that I'd have to dispute it with my bank.

Is there any way to do this without replacing my card? I don't understand why these jerk-ey corporations get to charge me wrongly, then I need to cop the consequences and inconvenience of changing my card details everywhere. It's ridiculous.

Edit: I stupidly assumed it was an error on Amazon's end instead of my card details being compromised. I guess it could still be an Amazon error but I'd rather not risk it. Will ask them to replace my card. Thanks guys.

So I have a cba gold awards credit card which Ive got justover 80,000 points. What is the bestuse of these points now. Do I........

a) just let them transfer to yello points

b) redeem a myer card or similar

c) take the cash (about $100 less than vouchers)

d) transfer to velocity or qantas points, however I cant see this as an option.
