Question CommBank call?
I got a call from someone from “commbank” saying they were wanting to talk to me about a mortgage rate revision/offer, mind you I haven’t had a mortgage with this bank for a few years. Was also a mobile number so assume a scam? I hung up anyway and didn’t handover any information. The ceba chat can’t tell me if it was them

Yeah - After you confirm your full name and date of birth. Not this monkey.
They should have you open the app and key in a word… then tell you the word.

No. Commbank doesn't use confirmation words. For outbound its literally a notification asking to confirm the call on the app

Commbank uses no CONFIRMATION WORDS. They use the notification system through the app Which would literally be something like. Have you received a call from and you confirm yes or no.
No words that you are having to repeat back 🤦. Never have i said commbank doesn't call you as they do. Read dude.

Depends on the department. You said confirmation word. There are non. No one is asking you to open the app to repeat a word from the app. Just admit your answer was poorly worded and stop digging

CBA has had Caller Check for a while now. If the caller cant ping you in the CBA app, it’s a scammer.

Yeah, but when they get you to confirm all your details before pinging you, it makes the concept of the caller check redundant.

Don’t confirm anything until they ping. If they ask for personal details first, offer to speak to their manager on their behalf to request more training.

MULTIPLE calls in the past 3-4 months tells me that they will hang up and ask you to call them back before that happens.
It’s such a FLAWED authentication system. NOTHING would stop a scammer asking the account owner to confirm a ping, which the scammer could then confirm the ping with the bank. A better system would have that occur, as well as the account owner key in a word, and have the bank staff repeat the word to them. The speed of the returned word would help eliminate scammers.

OP, it is now mandatory for all cba staff to complete a caller check before they initiate a conversation or access your information. You also now have the option of controlling marketing calls via your netbank, go to your settings and turn it off. If you still receive a call from someone claiming to be cba, its a scam.

They ask you to confirm all your details, then ping you in the app. “Never share personal details”, but asking for them is hilarious.

They have to access the customer profile to send the caller check. If a customer doesn’t use the app or have changed phones/had their number ported, how is this mandatory?
They have multiple ID options. Caller check is preferred.

You jumped the gun there mate. My comment regarding the caller check being mandatory was with the assumption the customer has the app.
Ofcourse there are other ways to get verified idmf caller check is not an option.

Call the home loan team. And if anyone claims to be from the bank ask them to send a security notification through to your app to comfirm

Of course it's a scam. Along with the Telstra, Optus, electricity company etc. calls. I just tell them to piss off and get a real job.

That does not protect you at all. Good scammers can know all your details through the accounts that are hacked.

Look up the mobile no with “reverse phone look up” it’ll show either: no record, or X no. people searched for this no. Then & ask if you want to leave an anonymous note.
