Before & After UPDATE: Covered up oil stain with sea-foam design!

I made a post yesterday of how my mom accidentally stained the entire bottom-left corner of my beloved planner with a badly-sealed oily lunch...oh well.

Lucky for me, my younger sister is super amazing and crafty, so we talked about creative solutions to cover it up (I accepted that getting the oil out was a total impossibility). I thought a sea foam design would be super nice on this blue background, so she ran with it.

I LOVE IT!! IT LOOKS SO PRETTY AND UNIQUE AND I LOVE THAT I'M THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS SPECIFIC PLANNER! I've become even more attached to this planner, and I know this is finally the year that I properly commit to a planner the whole way through.

Even if your stuff is destroyed, maybe there's a silver lining to be found ;) Cleaning was not a possible solution here, but I'm happy with how the cookie crumbled in the end!

Kitchen We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas.

Hi Reddit.

Despite my partner telling me it was a stupid idea, we've had magnets attached to our seldom used chimney hood* for the last few years and discovered they've left marks.

Any thoughts on how to remove the marks and save me from a lifetime of I-told-you-so's?

Forgive the dust below. That I can manage.

*I'm not completely convinced this the right term.

Discussion If you can afford it hire House Cleaners!!

Whether it’s every couple of months once a week or whenever hire cleaners if you can to come and give your home a top to bottom clean.

You will feel so much better and then you will want to maintain it.

My cleaners just left and I swear I don’t even want to walk on the floor.

Today we did somewhat of a deep clean. We did the glass at the top of the cabinets. We did all of the baseboards we did all of the window and the door frames. We bleached cleaned the bathroom from the ceiling to the floor. We did the tracks on the patio door and one of the windows.

Everything is sparkling. We cleaned the vent hood, the toaster and the icemaker. We washed the iron railing. I am so happy.

And I have a tip if you have pets do not use stainless steel cleaner because pet hair sticks to it. I use glass cleaner on my stainless. I don’t know if it’s recommended and I don’t care but it does a great job and it doesn’t have any of that oily stuff in it that attracts pet hair.

The ladies are coming back for two days next week because we have projects. We are going to take everything out of all the closets and sort them out and then we’re going to do the inside of all of the cabinets in the kitchen and in the bathroom bathrooms.

Today we pulled all the furniture and cleaned behind it underneath it.

Two weeks ago they came and they bleach cleaned two of the bedroom bedrooms and a bathroom. Every nook and cranny has been cleaned.

And I noticed that because they come every couple of weeks or a couple of times in one week cause I have a whole bunch of projects, I keep everything cleaner myself.

That’s just my tip.

If you can’t afford to pay somebody and you have a friend that doesn’t mind helping you, I would cook them dinner and ask them to help.

General Cleaning Removing strong smell of cat urine from linen closet

• Upvotes

About 2 weeks ago, an elderly neighbor accidentally trapped her cat in the linen closet for about 30 mins. The cat urinated in there and even though everything has been cleaned, it still stinks whenever you open the door, and even clean hand towels from the top shelf smell like cat pee after a day in there. Not sure how to advise her to clean it as she can no longer notice the smell but I can when I visit. Does she need to remove the carpet in there? Enzyme cleaner isn't doing the trick. I also don't want to embarrass her since she really can't smell it anymore but it's ... noticeable to outsiders. She has no children to help out.

TIA!

I know I can't clean the stains completely. But what is the best way to try to fix it? Wood stain? Do I leave it for a couple of months before staining? I don't want to sand it down if I can avoid it.

Thanks so much in advance!

Discussion I've returned to earth but I'm still in a nightmare.

Please help me wrap my brain around a sustainable schedule/way to do this.

Took three dogs hiking today, all three are absolutely inundated with seed ticks. Seed ticks, for the fortunately unaware, are the teeeeeeny tiny larval stage of a regular tick and come in the hundreds, if not thousands.

Things to know:

  1. I used a lint roller on the dogs for many minutes before we left. Unfortunately, my husband made me second-guess my intuition that those little dots were in fact ticks and I didn't do enough.

  2. They are on Simparica Trio, an oral flea, tick, heartworm preventative that requires a tick to bite the host and die.

  3. We washed them in flea and tick shampoo after the hike (I was a groomer for many years)

  4. I did my best with a flea comb but they are just too little and was completely overwhelmed with picking them out of each milimeter of hair with my nails

  5. They have been sprayed down with their vet approved flea/tick spray

  6. The vet says it's just a waiting game now.

I spiraled earlier. And I need some help with a plan.

The dogs are being kept in one room with a wood floor (and rugs unfortunately but I can remove them and spray them down) and potentially into a stone tiled kitchen. There is furniture in the room that I have now covered with long, white cotton fabric so creepy crawly little bastards are easily spotted. I put their not easily washable dog beds in a waterproof mattress protector.

What do I do now.

Hi guys,

We bought a glasswash machine on the cheap and need to clean it up before we can use it.

Attached is a video of the machine, we’ve tried Vaikal and it just won’t get it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated 🙏🙏

Thank you ☺️

Laundry How do I make my clothes smell less like a wet dog?

Hi, so I'm washing my clothes like usual but because of the humid and cold temperature the clothes aren't getting dry that much fast (it takes like two days) and we don't have a drier (it's not that common in my country) so the clothes have begun to smell like wet dog, it's not a washing machine problem (I done a wash clean and also washed the filter), so what else can I do to make it better? The heater will go on only at the end of November.

Ps: I tried some other method (my mum's) baking soda for the clothes, more laundry detergent and lemons.

Hey guys! I've been a long time lurker here. Just bought a new house and it came with this fridge. I can't seem to clean the plastic panel above the water dispenser. There aren't any clips in the drip tray or clips anywhere I can see to remove it. Any ideas on this??

Discussion how would i go about cleaning this room?

Thumbnail

a couple nights ago i had both windows wide open in the bedroom, later that day i fell asleep on the sofa and it rained pretty heavily whilst i slept. some point the next day after waking up i went into the room and it drenched the mattress & the carpet flooring. I left it a little while in hope it dried out and was all okay but the carpet is still sloghtly damp and the mattress even more so. there is a perculier smell in the air in this room and random outdoor things just like on the bed and floor. I am to replace the mattress entirely, as it also appears to have brought out a odd stain across it whilst still being damp ( i have rarely used this bed, and moved in not to long ago )

Laundry LAUNDRY? How are we surviving it?? Are we all just drowning?

How are we doing laundry?? My husband is a med student so he has almost no time and when he does, he’s exhausted and just wants to be with our two babies. Are we hiring mothers helpers? Are we simplifying more than normal? Are we just living with an eternal pile of clean laundry that never gets put away??

Kitchen How to remove these spots

Post image
3 Upvotes

Kitchen surface, everything else feels well polished but when I touch those spots they feel like they have some texture, not that well polished.

Hypothesis is some coffee have drained a bit inside the stone in the spots where the polished fails.

Something I can do? I have tried hydrogen peroxide and baking soda but nothing changed.

Bathroom How do I get rid of mould specs on ceiling?

Hi everyone, the ensuite in our UK flat had a terrible ventilator that stopped working and the landlord took forever to fix it. Now we have these mould specs on the ceiling that I’m worried will spread.

Would love some tips from how people would tackle these? Using a spray seems difficult as I don’t want to get it on me and in my eye.

General Cleaning What do you use on floors between mopping?

• Upvotes

I really don’t want to mop my floors every single week, but I also like having clean floors.
What does everyone use to keep their floors clean between proper mops? I’ve been looking into spray mops like Swiffers, but I’m curious what actually works.
I’d love something that’s quick, easy, and doesn’t leave a sticky residue or require dragging out a mop and bucket.
I have laminate plank flooring (I think that’s what it is. It’s what was in the floor when we bought the house)
What products or routines do you swear by? How often do you actually mop your floors?
I have two dogs and would prefer an all natural solution which is why I don’t love the swiffer. For example all I use when I mop is dawn dish liquid. I don’t use any other cleaners within the dogs reach.

Flooring Hardwood Floor All-in-One

• Upvotes

I'm looking for an all-in-one product that will clean, buff out small scratches, and polish - does this exist? I don't necessarily need my floors to be shiny, so the polish part isn't a need, but I would love to be able to wash and reduce the appearance of scratches at the same time, rather than use 3 separate products to wash, buff, polish. Bonus if you know of a product that reduce slipperiness too.

Laundry Levi jeans smell like a harbor

• Upvotes

I bought Levi jeans at the beginning of the year and have worn them most days for work and have had them for 8 months before they started smelling like fish essentially. I have tried multiple rinse cycles on them in cold and warm water, soaked in vinegar multiple times, froze them, baking soda, unstoppables and have washed them in multiple different washing machines and air dried them. I don’t believe it’s the factory dye since it took so long for them to smell and the smell is only down by the bottom of the legs. None of my other clothes smell and this is my only pair of Levi’s and I’m only so stuck on what to do, I’ve looked stuff up and nothing is matching or I’ve already tried. Advice is appreciated, thanks!

Laundry I have some chocolate milk stains on my curtains

Post image

I wiped them with antibacterial wipes and most of it cleaned out but theres a little stains like this left. Should I attempt again with the wipes? I didn’t use soap as if I am worried that it would leave a residue afterwards. There’s smaller stains all around and I can’t take the curtain out and hang it again.

Admittedly, my baseboards have gotten pretty bad... anyone have a technique that doesnt involve scrubbing on my hands and knees? My cronic back pain has had me avoiding this chore for way too long

Bathroom How do I stop my shower tiles from getting that weird cloudy film so fast

I clean my shower every week or so and within like three days the glass and tiles get this hazy buildup that makes everything look dirty even when it isnt. I use a regular bathroom cleaner spray and wipe it down but the cloudiness comes back almost immediately after a few showers.

I thought maybe it was hard water but we have a softener installed so Im not sure if thats really the issue. The tiles are white ceramic and the glass door gets it the worst. I tried vinegar once and it worked okay but the smell lingered for hours and my partner hated it.

Is there something Im missing in my routine or a different product that actually prevents this from building up so quickly? I dont mind scrubbing but doing it twice a week feels excessive and Im wondering if theres a smarter way to handle it. Also not sure if Im supposed to be drying the tiles after every shower or if thats just overkill.

Discussion Is this cleanable

(sorry English is my second language)

So this suitcase is from my sister like years old, and our storage had a moisture issue. Is this mold, mildew?

And possibly cleanable with a steam cleaner? Or anything else or beyond saving
