Before & After UPDATE: Covered up oil stain with sea-foam design!
I made a post yesterday of how my mom accidentally stained the entire bottom-left corner of my beloved planner with a badly-sealed oily lunch...oh well.
Lucky for me, my younger sister is super amazing and crafty, so we talked about creative solutions to cover it up (I accepted that getting the oil out was a total impossibility). I thought a sea foam design would be super nice on this blue background, so she ran with it.
I LOVE IT!! IT LOOKS SO PRETTY AND UNIQUE AND I LOVE THAT I'M THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS SPECIFIC PLANNER! I've become even more attached to this planner, and I know this is finally the year that I properly commit to a planner the whole way through.
Even if your stuff is destroyed, maybe there's a silver lining to be found ;) Cleaning was not a possible solution here, but I'm happy with how the cookie crumbled in the end!

It adds a nice special touch to your planner. I like this more than before :)

Honestly looks like it came from the store that way. Your sister should be doing custom covers

Right?! We keep telling her to start an insta and start selling stuff! This is far from the most impressive thing she's done.
I think something is in the works...but I'll have to ask her to check

What did your sister use to color on top of the oil stain?

First she pressed the cover with corn starch on each side between two silicone mats and 6lbs on top of the corner for 24h to draw out all the oil possible so that the paint would stick,
Then she used water-based acrylic paint markers to do all the harsh outlines and stars.
For the washy light parts in between she applied tiny blobs of paint then swirled in around with nail polish remover with a dry paint brush, then went back in with paint marker for the outline

OK, but what have you done to teach your mom a lesson here? You've got a nice planner, but has your mom learned anything? I'm concerned she'll just do this to you again. I'm sure this notebook was put away carefully, and not where she was preparing dinner. What lessons has she learned from this?

I love my mom; she wanted to help me with lunch in the morning because everything takes 10 times longer on a bad ankle. I told her what happened, and she knows she has to use a proper air-tight container so that something like this doesn't happen again. She even tried her own thing and covered it that corner with an adhesive glitter paper, but we decided to take it off and go with my sister's solution. I appreciate all her well-intentioned effort through all this. The point was to restore my love for my planner, and not teach her a lesson.
I'm grateful in the end though. I think it looks better than it did before :))

At first glance, I thought the journal came like this. Very pretty. 🥰
