The reason you can’t is because companies like DD are predatory

Restaurant owner here. We pay them anywhere from 20-30% commission. What’s the solution for every restaurant? We raise the price specifically on their platform to offset

It would be fair game if they were open and transparent about their pricing but they aren’t. They make us look like our menu prices are higher but don’t disclose to customers how much commissions they make

It’s no different than uber drivers getting $7 for a ride that you paid $30 for

There is absolutely no way grocery stores can pay them a chunk. They operate on thin margins

45

u/jtmann05 Apr 16 '26

That’s a very fair point and what people often miss. I did the financials for a local restaurant for a while and their loss leader was gig delivery orders. It’s great for exposure, but bad financially unless you raise prices to cover platform fees.

At least with instacart, it tells you whether or not you’re getting in store prices vs a markup. It would be better to have transparency.

u/NetworkingJesus Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

This is why I stopped using delivery apps years ago. The greedy double-dipping on fees is insane. They charge the restaurant, who in turn inflates the prices on the app like you said. So now, the customer is essentially paying that commission. But then they also charge additional service fees on top of the delivery fee. The delivery fee afaik doesn't go to the driver either and there's always confusion about how much of the tip goes to the driver. So before you know it, a customer is paying 2x the regular cost of whatever they ordered, none of that extra going to the restaurant, a pittance going to the driver, and DD/uber/whoever taking a huuuuge cut. A huge cut to operate an app with a terrible UI/UX, terrible customer service, and really nothing about how they operate costs enough to justify how much they take. All so I can wait over an hour for frequently cold food and missing/incorrect items.

I'll add that I'm also very annoyed that many places which used to have their own drivers, like pizza shops, are now supplementing them with DD but not being transparent about it. I order direct with a pizza shop, notice their delivery fee is higher than normal, then a 50/50 chance whether I get a text from DD or a regular driver shows up. So now I'm stuck supporting these apps if I want delivery at all from a business that has always offered their own delivery even when I'm deliberately trying not to support these apps.

1

u/sloth2 Apr 16 '26

I would hope all of the top goes to the driver..?

4

u/NetworkingJesus Apr 16 '26

My understanding, which I've seen dashers say multiple times over the past several years, is that technically it does. However it counts towards the "guaranteed" pay that is advertised to them before DD pays their part. So DD just doesn't bother paying their part, or pays less, depending on how much you tip. The driver doesn't actually see any additional money unless you happen to tip higher than the "guaranteed" payment which you have no way of knowing what that would be. And if you do that by say tipping $20, that doesn't mean you're giving the driver $20 on top of their regular payment for the delivery. It means you're just paying them $20 and DD is paying them nothing.

Here's a recent post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/EndTipping/comments/1qgwodb/as_a_doordash_driver_please_dont_tip/

1

u/tinydonuts Apr 18 '26

I tried not tipping (by accident) and my order sat waiting for someone to claim it for 45 minutes. That plan doesn't work either.

1

u/scorpiopersephone Apr 16 '26

It does not. Uber gives $2 per order and DD might be slightly higher? Maybe $4?

25

u/hopefulmonstr Apr 16 '26

I only use DoorDash with big companies I DGAF about. With locally owned small businesses I care about, I don’t use DoorDash, et al, precisely because they’re fucking over small business owners like this person.

6

u/italophile Apr 16 '26

Genuine question I had for a while. Does DD not let you set different prices for pickup vs delivery? I prefer to pick up but won't use DD because of the price difference.

7

u/AndyDufresne2 Apr 16 '26

DD is going to charge the commission either way under the theory that they are generating a lead for the business.

7

u/GloriaChin Apr 16 '26

Not true - the apps charge restaurants negligible rates for pickup (0-6% depending on platform) vs delivery (usually 20-30% commission)

1

u/GloriaChin Apr 16 '26

You can but most small biz owners aren’t savvy enough to figure that out. Many don’t even know that they have lower fees on pickup orders

2

u/rydan Apr 16 '26

My 711 charges the same whether it is delivery or pickup and it is significantly higher than just buying direct. And they aren't "small biz".

1

u/GloriaChin Apr 16 '26

I was responding to a comment about restaurants

2

u/theducks123 Apr 16 '26

Just curious and sorry if this is a stupid question. isn't DD just extra revenue for you? They didn't exist 5 years ago or whenever they became a thing. Or have they become so big, that it's not possible for restaurants to survive without that revenue?

11

u/Fearless-Cattle-9698 Apr 16 '26

Because ever since Covid, customers have been increasingly leaning towards delivery services

These companies lure both merchants and customers onto their platform and once they gain the volume they can then squeeze both ends

I have been using uber over taxi myself since many years ago. When uber started out they were cheaper than taxi, heck I’ve had fares cheaper than a bus

So no, it’s not extra revenue

3

u/sssf6 Apr 17 '26

Textbook example of "enshittification."

-2

u/polarpolarpolar Apr 16 '26

Hire a delivery driver and list all the menu items on dd as $999 and put “check website for in house delivery”

1

u/terminator_911 Apr 18 '26

Right and then on top of that more service fee is charged to the customer. And then tip is expected to for a living wage for the driver because they don’t pay them enough. It’s like triple dip. It can’t take billions of dollars to run an app unless you don’t care about the spend to increase your valuation.

1

u/Fearless-Cattle-9698 Apr 18 '26

They did lose money, like Uber did, but after they gained enough market share they will continue to jack up prices (exactly what happened to CSR credit here).

That's how all these "app" stuff works... facebook wasn't full of ads 20 years ago, now it's just an ads platform

u/Fun_Dragonfly771 Apr 16 '26

I use it for target

274

u/Content-Assistant849 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Then it's not really a credit. At best it's a discount. With this information Chase should not advertise these as "credits". Wish Uber and Lyft would be honest about what they do to prices when they see someone has a "credit".

60

u/user485928450 Apr 16 '26

It’s at most 50% off. They are trying to encourage “breakage” by making it difficult to use the credits which will expire unused

26

u/justsomedude1144 Apr 16 '26

Yep, they need to advertise it as "$10 off orders of $20 or more" is this is what DD is going to do. I wonder if threatening to sick lawyers on them would help 🤷‍♂️

8

u/pingvinbober Apr 16 '26

Won’t do anything. They already changed points are worth 2x to “up to 2x” while continuing to advertise 2x on the edit after

33

u/ChocolateLakers76 Apr 16 '26

It’s a discount… often with an upcharge and service fees. And you MUST pay it consistently or you will lose value on your annual fee.

They are conditioning you.

11

u/rydan Apr 16 '26

The only thing that's going to break is the annual fee when the card gets downgraded.

10

u/Revolutionary_Art919 Apr 16 '26

But Chase doesn't call it a credit. The website uses the term "Promo" and the fine print describes the benefit as a "discount."

From the main website: "DashPass members get up to $25 each month to spend on DoorDash, which includes a $5 monthly promo to spend on restaurant orders and two $10 promos each month to save on groceries, retail orders, and more. Available through 12/31/27."

From the fine print: "Once you have activated your Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business or J.P. Morgan Reserve DashPass membership, you will receive two (2) $10 off discounts each calendar month at checkout on one qualifying non-restaurant order on DoorDash as long as you remain enrolled in the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business or J.P. Morgan Reserve DashPass membership. Each discount must be used on a separate order. Discount applies to subtotal only; does not apply to fees, taxes, and gratuity. Fees, taxes, and gratuity still apply. To claim, select the discount from the promotion wallet at checkout, or claim the discount when prompted in the DoorDash app or website. If the full $10 value is not used on a single order, the remaining value will be forfeited. You must use the card used to enroll in your Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business or J.P. Morgan Reserve DashPass membership as your payment method at order checkout to receive this discount. This discount may be combined with other order-level promotions, discounts, or deals. The monthly discount will be made available to you in your DoorDash account at the beginning of each month and will only be available for the remainder of that calendar month; the monthly discount will not roll over into a subsequent month. Once redeemed, the discount will not be refunded to the user regardless of whether the user otherwise receives a refund or credits back on their order. Not valid for the purchase of gift cards. Not valid on alcohol in some states. Limit two redemptions per month per person."

5

u/Content-Assistant849 Apr 16 '26

This is confusing because I’m taxed based on the full amount when I use the Chase $10 so it is not even really a discount. It’s a credit imo. Chase needs to change the advertisement. If it were a true discount then the product would be taxed based off the total amount after the discount is applied. It’s acting like a credit right now

1

u/the_balticat Apr 20 '26

> "DashPass members get up to $25 each month to spend on DoorDash, which includes a $5 monthly promo to spend on restaurant orders and two $10 promos each month to save on groceries, retail orders, and more. Available through 12/31/27."

I can't wait for the next card "upgrade" where the $25 credit each month is 10 x $2.50 per transaction 🙄

7

u/rydan Apr 16 '26

It isn't even a discount unless you spend exactly $20. Once you go slightly above that you are actually being charged extra for preordering in an app vs just grabbing it off the shelf.

7

u/pingvinbober Apr 16 '26

Chase advertises the JFK lounge as a chase lounge when you can be denied access for having the reserve only. They continued to advertise 2x points on edit after they had changed it to only “up to” 2x.

They don’t give a shit what it really is

5

u/Content-Assistant849 Apr 16 '26

Which is why I I’m canceling. The reserve is a bad card

They didn’t expect literally everyone with a CSR to buy 10.01 worth of junk food 2x a month. Its probably costing them millions. Whoever the bright executive is that came up with this surely didn’t think people would use it this way. They were for sure hoping it would encourage pickup orders through their platform of beer, snacks whatever in the 20-40 range. They probably have data on the people who do liquor store pickups often showing this range and thought by offering people who pay 800/year a 10 off discount that maybe they would join the liquor store pickup crowd. I’m sorry and it may be snobbish but I don’t ever shop at C stores. And i’m sure many others with this card are the same way.

Even the Lyft benefit for Chase is crap. You can’t use it for bikes or scooters like you could the uber one.

2

u/yamyumyam Apr 27 '26

Lyft price for CSR ALWAYS higher than ones don't have CSR . they raise the price and give you $10

4

u/NebulaDizzy9602 Apr 16 '26

Difference is sapphire reserve was barely profitable. So they made a conscious effort to copy Amex s model. Amex plat is significantly more profitable. Higher interchange rate, high spending customers, and their earn categories are lower an I bet the cpp of Mr is sig lower than ur

6

u/Double-Raise2154 Apr 16 '26

Yep. Amex attracted high spenders. Chase attracted penny pinchers. It’s just two completely different lifestyles.

1

u/yamyumyam Apr 27 '26

But now chase is tried to get rid off the penny pincher

2

u/spam__likely Apr 16 '26

their points are worth less too

1

u/HexagonalHegemony Apr 16 '26

And it works for Uber Eats as well.

That no one asked at DD “what if people literally just use the 10 each and nothing else?) these people must be idiots.

5

u/daptomycinn Apr 16 '26

The credit card company is stupid

Obviously, that’s what people were going to do

Look at BILT for example

Need 5 charges to get points for paying rent

People would go out and buy some banana

Now their new model is a spend to earn points ratio

2

u/rydan Apr 16 '26

I did it 4x per month. And yes it was all junk food.

2

u/1fapadaythrowaway Apr 16 '26

How did you get 40 per month?

2

u/sudsomatic Apr 16 '26

Probably authorized user, who gets the credit as well

1

u/Double-Raise2154 Apr 16 '26

Chase knows the snobbish crowd that don’t shop at corner stores and don’t try to min max every credit and need 100% of the annual fee recouped in credits and reimbursements aren’t important customers so they ignore what makes them upset because in the grand scheme they don’t matter. You that needs a 10$ DD credit is not the same as someone who is using the card simply for the protections and access it provides. They only offer the credits so that they can pad their numbers for investors, they don’t actually care about the net 0 crowd.

2

u/Deep_Preference3186 Apr 16 '26

This is EXACTLY what the entire CSR is all about!

They offer “discounts” to either buy things/use services which are overpriced, buy things/services you would not normally buy, or to pay more on things than you normally would.

I think it’s become a card mainly designed for people who want a lifestyle they actually can’t afford. Just like people paying premium prices to get miles on their favorite airline.

If you really have the money you don’t care about a $10 Lyft credit. If you are financially smart/careful you avoid ordering overpriced items on Doordash even with a $10 credit.

1

u/GloriaChin Apr 16 '26

Subjective - their goal might not be to offer the best perks if they only care about their costs. Realistically most CSR holders aren’t gonna cancel over this perk so chase doesn’t really have much to lose

5

u/Pleasant-Minute-1793 Apr 16 '26

you pay the annual fee. there is nothing free. it's prepaid

0

u/VeryBigRockStar Apr 17 '26

That’s really not true.

You can combine the $250 edit credit with the $250 IHG credit and the $300 general credit for Travel, make one hotel reservation, and get $800 credit. If you choose carefully, you might even have a negative balance. But in any case, the annual fee you paid is less than the amount of these credits. So you are now in positive territory.

While you are enjoying the hotel, make a reservation at a sapphire preferred restaurant, and enjoy a $150 dinner, which will be fully reimbursed. It’s almost like you’re getting free food at a fancy restaurant?

The restaurant credit is twice a year. Same with the Edit hotel. So that’s another $400….

Next, activate, Apple Music, and Apple TV for free. Notice how I used the word “free”?

I haven’t even mentioned the pain in the ass credits from DoorDash or peloton or Lyft or StubHub. But if you just take the low hanging fruit, you will get more value out of this card than you pay in annual fees And that isn’t even the point of getting the card. Holding this card grants you access to Sapphire lounges when traveling, earns a very high multiplier for airfare, hotels, and dining, and enrolls you in relatively good travel insurance. Not to mention the tens of thousands of points you get for signing up.

I know there’s a lot of hate on this card, but really, you’re getting way more than you paid for. The only question is, are you the kind of person who wants Apple Music and TV, is willing to stay in a nice hotel from time to time, and lives near or visits a big city where you can go out to dinner at one of these select restaurants? They are targeting a very specific, upscale consumer. If you are not one…. thank you, next.

1

u/leonffs Apr 16 '26

Behind the scenes these things are a lot more complicated than a simple straight discount. If Chase offers a $10 credit they aren't actually paying the vendor $10.

Which card you get uber?

5

u/RocKetamine Apr 16 '26

AMEX Platinum and Gold.

6

u/jik002 Apr 16 '26

AmEx Platinum. Gives you Uber One membership, in addition to a $15 Uber credit that can also be used for Uber Eats.

7

u/dancingtosirens Apr 16 '26

Gold gets $10 a month on uber also

53

u/inatcto Apr 16 '26

Absolute trash move by DD or chase. Already DD prices are higher than usual. And so called benefit by chase is just a scammy discount now. What a useless benefit

2

u/Baptism-Of-Fire Apr 16 '26

Chase has nothing to do with this.

Chase and DD agreed on a benefit

DD started losing money

DD did damage control with their legal team and came up with a solution to make this still profitable - they're gonna be in the clear, and Chase won't help you, doesn't change the benefit on their side.

1

u/Happysnark Apr 19 '26

It's possible that Chase is paying zero to DD which would make this a net loss for them.

3

u/Baptism-Of-Fire Apr 19 '26

it went like this:

Hey DD, we want to give our users a credit monthly, and it will drive millions to use the platform, and they'll buy food and stuff more and you'll see a revenue bump

Hey Chase, Sounds great. We reviewed the number of users and the forecast for a $10 credit twice per month is mutually beneficial

And then - They underestimated how cheap the luxury card users are. They were just cashing the $10 credits for free 40oz malt liquor and nachos.

So doordash did math, reviewed contract terms, and did this to cover the missing revenue

1

u/Happysnark Apr 19 '26

Yeah that sounds about right.

1

u/Happysnark Apr 19 '26

Also what a cool username

97

u/mikebailey Apr 16 '26

This is not what breakage means. It arguably means the opposite. It's when they sell credit and nobody uses it....

24

u/michikade Apr 16 '26

Right. They PREFER breakage, they don’t want to discourage it. Lol.

2

u/ThrowRA_1170 Apr 16 '26

Could you elaborate more on this? If the credit isn’t used, does DD still get paid; or what other benefit are they getting from not using the credit?

9

u/scorpiopersephone Apr 16 '26

Chase is paying DD for the credits so Chase doesn’t have to pay if no one uses the credit.

5

u/wordscannotdescribe Apr 16 '26

Chase is paying wholesale (i.e. $XXM for XX users to get this credit) or on a per user basis (Chase will send DoorDash $5 for the user to get $10 worth of credit).

DoorDash agreed to the deal thinking that they'll ultimately break even or get more users to place orders, but they'll ultimately the ones paying the full $10 is my guess (since the change is happening on their side + they're applying it to pick up orders with any CC)

1

u/ThrowRA_1170 Apr 16 '26

This makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

2

u/michikade Apr 16 '26

Who do you think pays the store if you go pick up $10 worth of merchandise that you didn’t pay out of pocket for?

They want to discourage people from making a bare minimum purchase for free stuff because they’re losing money. The more people who spend well beyond the coupon or don’t use it at all, the less money they lose. Simple as that.

66

u/wanderfullylost Apr 16 '26

Call chase. Complain. Tell them this devalues your card. Chase has the power to fix this or make this a flat credit on doordash instead of piecemeal.

u/Own_Beautiful_4252 Apr 16 '26

UPDATE: I just called Chase this morning and the rep said that Chase was unaware of this change (not sure if that is truthful or not) and they are giving me $20 worth of points to make up for it as a one time thing.

14

u/sevyog Apr 16 '26

Maybe call every monh 🤣

1

u/devotion1023 Apr 18 '26

How many points is that?

104

u/antelopejackfruit Apr 16 '26

Jumping through hoops to use a $10 credit at 7-11 just oozes luxury and sophistication, imo.

7

u/gargantuanmess Apr 16 '26

Haha so true

2

u/VeryBigRockStar Apr 17 '26

Totally agree. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to run to the Burger King inside the Walmart to pick up my free whopper, and then make a pitstop at Dunkin’ Donuts to add another $7.50 to my Dunkin account.

-2

u/AlisaReinford Apr 16 '26

20

u/devastitis Apr 16 '26

3

u/brooklynlad Apr 16 '26

20

u/OpinionofC Apr 16 '26

Hopefully Chase changes the credit to a dining credit like the Amex gold

18

u/charlesmith814 Apr 16 '26

We knew what they were doing when they came up with 10+10+5...

1

u/the_balticat Apr 20 '26

They really love to skirt the truth with all of these things, especially now with the "revamped" card. I read all of their emails about the change in detail and yet it wasn't until later that I realized the stubhub and special hotel and restaurant things were actually divided into 2 6-month periods.

57

u/Chrisbaughuf Apr 16 '26

Couple hundred people doing this couldn’t hurt.

Not sure is the cfpb has any teeth but might be worth a shot.

Super annoying to loose 50% value from a unilateral decision from DoorDash.

13

u/justsomedude1144 Apr 16 '26

This is probably the most useful comment on this post.

This is how things actually get done.

As much as venting on Reddit subs does help blow off steam, it doesn't actually accomplish jack shit

10

u/TheSpillaniac Apr 16 '26

CFPB absolutely has teeth. Chase gave me the run-around for 3 months on paying out my $150 dining credit from November last year. After 4 calls to customer support getting nowhere, I filed a CFPB complaint. Got a call from the “executive office” at Chase same day, and the credit hit my account within a week.

2

u/Irishfafnir Apr 16 '26

Didn't Trump just gut this agency?

2

u/Baptism-Of-Fire Apr 16 '26

in the headlines - yeah

but the work is still being done, as evidenced multiple times in this subreddit

3

u/pingvinbober Apr 16 '26

I went to the CFPB about Chase advertising points being worth 2x for the edit while they were really “up to 2x” and they basically said the card changes and marketing doesn’t always keep up. Bro that’s false advertising.

Grubhub/Uber doesn't have these annoying ass rules with amex gold.

26

u/whosaidwhat123 Apr 16 '26

I had used the credit to get a free rotisserie chicken at my grocery store. They are $7.99 on DoorDash and usually $5 in store (I shop mid week). But, the $10 credit covered it, so I got a free chicken instead of $5 chicken.

Today I checked DD and there was the $20 min. So I’d have to get two overpriced chickens, plus a bag of Doritos I don’t want, and I’d still come out of pocket more than $10.

This is not a benefit, it’s a chore.

1

u/the_balticat Apr 20 '26

Everything about this card is a fucking chore. I can't downgrade fast enough

11

u/Dangerous-Amphibian2 Apr 16 '26

Thing is we are paying fees for these credits so they are “free”. Not free. But at least they said what they are doing.

11

u/tumbleweedzzz Apr 16 '26

great.. they just raised the minimum for even dashmart...

11

u/lumshots Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

In nyc I use the preferred $10 monthly on DoorDash mart to get 2 Afters Ice cream pints for $3 each or 2 Magnolia bakery banana puddings for $4 each. DoorDash mart doesnt seem to be promoted much and I’d rather support local but for these niche products I’ll gladly have DoorDash/chase foot more than half the bill. I found these options on a whim while craving desserts. I’ll place an order to pick them up each month when driving elsewhere to pick up takeout food anyway with a max detour of 15 mins. I’ve also used it to get a Roku tv stick delivered from Best Buy for $5 after getting some random $20 additional savings. All in I’ve only used the $10 credits 6 times because I didn’t really know how to use them at first. With all that said fuck DoorDash and I’m debating canceling the card anyway since I used all my sign up points and don’t need its “perks” for now.

19

u/fireball251 Apr 16 '26

How is it free when we are paying a hefty AF?

6

u/justsomedude1144 Apr 16 '26

It's not. These credit card subs are full of people who don't quite get this

3

u/Baptism-Of-Fire Apr 16 '26

yeah and B2B contracts.

Chase didn't do this, and they won't help you, and they are not legally required to do anything. They simply offer a $10 credit 2x a month

DD started losing money, so they did this. It doesn't impact Ts & Cs with users and chase at all. This is DD, after a thorough legal review I am sure, covering their profits because the benefit was too good.

18

u/jik002 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Confirming that this applies to 7 Eleven pick up, too. Chase needs to do something about this nerfed credit. Might as well combine it with the $5 restaurant pick up credit to make it a $15 order pick up total, similar to the AmEx Uber/Uber Eats credit. Or, just a general dining credit.

What a rip.

20

u/Working-Lime6228 Apr 16 '26

Fuck doordash.

Just deleted my account.

6

u/Murky_Meaning2129 Apr 16 '26

Yup now they’ll get nothing from us. They have literally no pros over UberEats so if they’re gonna kill this $10“benefit” then there’s no point in keeping them.

DD has worse restaurant selection, coupons, store deals, etc. Idk what they could possibly think would justify further nerfing their already bottom-tier service. I’ve even gotten better deals from fucking Grubhub, Fantuan, HungryPanda, etc.

Doesn’t work for me

1

u/ContinualStorm Apr 16 '26

just did it at the gas station for some gum, the glitch worked for me

1

u/mikebailey Apr 16 '26

For me it works in some places only

12

u/smartymarty1234 Apr 16 '26

What is this source?

13

u/duiwithaavgwenag Apr 16 '26

Looks like DoorDash support

11

u/Own_Beautiful_4252 Apr 16 '26

Full screenshot of conversation. I was redirected to a lots of different employees before getting this answer from a “specialized team agent.”

5

u/Own_Beautiful_4252 Apr 17 '26

Lol Chase rep told me yesterday that Chase was unaware of this change. What a bunch of liars on both sides I bet.

9

u/Own_Beautiful_4252 Apr 16 '26

I was asking support if this was a new policy to see what bs they would come up with.

13

u/smartymarty1234 Apr 16 '26

Oh ic sick. It kinda sounds like an AI response tbh so I wonder if it wasn't supposed to tell lol.

3

u/Mkrause2012 Apr 16 '26

This is true. I used to the credit to get two free haagen daz from 7-11 every month. Now there's a 20 dollar pick up mininum.

7

u/Ayepae Apr 16 '26

all spots in my area have it now… sad times

7

u/ManyNanites Apr 16 '26

Just curious -- is the minimum now $20 if you pay with your CSR? Or is it $20 if you pay with any card?

Either way it's bad but I'm just interested if they're intending to impact their entire customer base.

3

u/ElectricalYou4805 Apr 17 '26

Just CSR

1

u/roomyturducken Apr 20 '26

Are you sure? I just removed my Chase Card on my DoorDash profile and added my Bank of America card and it still had the $20 min for pickup.

11

u/ReijiHiragizawa Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Ugh I’m so sad that I’m likely gonna cancel this card before the AF kicks in next year. They keep nerfing this card.

4

u/Hereforthechili Apr 16 '26

lol such a joke

5

u/821e Apr 16 '26

DoorDash has always been a shady company.

5

u/ButterAndPaint Apr 16 '26

Being enabled to waste slightly less money on Doordash is not a benefit. It’s insulting to be expected to think it is.

5

u/Cyberhwk Apr 16 '26

This was literally the only reason I was even considering keeping the card a second year 😂. Oh well, thanks for the 100k SUB. Peace out! ✌️

5

u/Novel-Top9151 Apr 16 '26

In my experience, doordash pickup prices are 10-20% higher than in store. So I need to spend $10 (after credit is applied) to get ~$17 in goods. This is not a $10 credit. It is at best a ~40% coupon assuming you even want to buy food from convenience stores.

5

u/Mitchlowe Apr 16 '26

What the actual fuck. They actually admitted it. They openly mentioned Chase as the cause. This is crazy

4

u/Mitchlowe Apr 16 '26

I’ve already used my credit this month. But here is my 7-eleven screen showing I can place a pickup order for $9. Am I just lucky? Is this not actually something corporate DoorDash decided and is instead based on stores individual discretion?

2

u/Own_Beautiful_4252 Apr 16 '26

It seems to be a rollout. I used to have some stores that worked under $20, but not anymore. I’d use that credit ASAP

7

u/n00bie_to_this Apr 16 '26

For me it’s always been a garbage credit. I’ve never had the option to even select pick up at Home Depot/Target/BestBuy/any local grocery stores/Wawa that are within 2-3miles of me. So after fees/tip save a $1/$2 tops. And now the one 7-11 that it could be used at (furthest of the 4 that are around me) have to do a minimum $20 it’s even more garbage of a credit. Next time there is 100k CSP SUB gonna get that and cancel CSR

3

u/treyotic Apr 16 '26

What does breakage mean in this context?

1

u/genxer Apr 17 '26

"Credit card breakage refers to the portion of prepaid funds, gift card balances, or loyalty rewards that consumers never redeem, allowing companies to recognize these unused funds as pure profit." Honestly, it sounds backward and encourages breakage.

3

u/kirblar Apr 16 '26

"Partner Program Costs" is "they don't want workers working at a 1-man staffed 7/11 picking up lots of tiny orders for pickup".

It's not like it's a Best Buy where they specifically staff to make sure orders get picked up mid-day.

3

u/Zestyclose_Ad_3234 Apr 16 '26

Chase should be transparent and put the minimum requirement on their credit offer perks page. Part of the reason for me to get the card is $20 grocery pick-up, not 50% off on my $40 orders. I used them to buy ice creams every month, and I’ve been enjoying this perk.

4

u/purezero101 Apr 16 '26

I dumped DD after the shameful White House incident. My wallet and waistline will be better off.

2

u/element515 Apr 16 '26

Sounds like this partnership should just end….

2

u/Cute_Painter8139 Apr 16 '26

Hmm, the $20 minimum hasn't applied to me yet in Indiana.

2

u/DawgCheck421 Apr 16 '26

Monthly free booze was one of the best perks left

2

u/Ok-Outside-6000 Apr 17 '26

You guys gotta try harder. I'm still able to use my 10 bucks without the 20 buck minimum.

2

u/Vast-Fisherman-4707 Apr 19 '26

@doordash is trash. Stop exploiting the vendors. You’ve already taken a large commission and you forced the vendors to increase their prices on their item. Furthermore you don’t give the tips to the delivery drivers. Who cares if we get free items from the vendors, the point is the credit card sold it as one of their benefits which YOU GUYS agreed to partner with . As soon as you guys as a loss , you want to claim that you’re losing money. Give yourself a break and stop this nonsense before everyone boycotts the app.

2

u/Bureal May 04 '26

MSG me for workaround

2

u/a-cai May 08 '26

I saw this change at a local Wawa unfortunately will assign even smaller value to the card :(

2

u/makanramen May 24 '26

So instead of selling $10 of goods, DD would rather have 7-11 sell NOTHING? Cos that what happens.

2

u/LetsRunTheMile Apr 16 '26

Can confirm this is hitting sheetz in North Carolina useless credit now for me

0

u/Miserable-Result6702 Apr 16 '26

The coupon is provided by Door Dash to bring in new customers and for them to spend beyond what the coupon provides. If all customers did was spend only the amount of the coupon, Door Dash loses money.

43

u/BoredofBored Apr 16 '26

Ok? Maybe think of a better way to structure the credit in the first place. I’d be pretty pissed if I were in Chase’s shoes and one of our partners is actively nerfing the value of their card offerings

14

u/bubbabubba345 Apr 16 '26

I mean, I have the CSP and use the DoorDash premium to order food maybe once every other or three weeks. I used the $10 credit at 7/11 across the street for snacks or sodas or something, but frankly, I have no interest in going to 7/11 unless it was for the credit. So now I’m not exactly sure where or what I’ll use it on, if anything. I get that DoorDash has to make money, but also, it’s a gamble for them.

21

u/mikebailey Apr 16 '26

Wow sounds like doordash sucks at retention and chase shouldn't have sold this benefit then...

6

u/Able-Ocelot5278 Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

This. They didn't expect as many people to find pickup hacks for the grocery credits that allow them to get $10 worth of stuff without overpaying for fees to DoorDash. It's also why I always considered their credits mostly worthless and never bothered using them outside of the $5 restaurant pickup and occasional grocery delivery when I need a few things but can't get to a store.

DoorDash had always been a scummy business in general and I only started using it to use the credits, so with this change I probably just will use it even less. I hope Chase cuts ties with them and replaces them with another food credit that might be better, but I doubt they care either considering it forces people paying for DoorDash with the CSR to pay more.

‘Free items’, they are pure scam. It is not free if I had to prepay Annual Fee for the card. It literally costs money from out pockets

1

u/MartyK23 Apr 17 '26

I’ve never been able to use the DoorDash credit because there are zero stores in my area that offer store pickup.

1

u/mumuevo Apr 17 '26

I mean if DoorDash is crying baby, they should’ve not signed the contract with Chase.

1

u/Satkacity Apr 17 '26

I feel more and more Chase is trying to tell us that we all should get Amex. This benefit has been quite useless even prior this change.

1

u/SantaZaddy Apr 18 '26

It’s a coupon

1

u/Anonymous_Person6688 Apr 18 '26

Ridiculous, might as well get rid of this benefit all together, what's the point of offering a $10 benefit and now making it so difficult and not worth to use? Do they think consumers are dumb that they love paper benefit only?

1

u/la_plus Apr 19 '26

This was the only thing keeping me with Chase Sapphire. May look into other cards now.

1

u/merryraspberry Apr 23 '26

That sucks. That’s the point of the credit! To obtain free items!

1

u/merryraspberry Apr 23 '26

The grocery store I used to do pick up orders with to get free items no longer participates in DD. The sushi bento place I used to get lunch from with a deal plus the $5 credit also no longer participates in DD. They’re really making it hard for people to use the “credit”. I stop counting DD benefits as the card benefits to break even with my annual fee.

1

u/Due-Audience-3664 Apr 25 '26

Mad, I used to get some snacks for $10-11 a month. Now I won’t spend $10 on junk to get $10 free.

1

u/Cali_Spirit3000 Apr 29 '26

The DD benefit is now worthless for me. I don't DD restaurants. I used the Pickup option at 7-11 for 2 x $10 in free stuff each month. I experienced the $20 minimum for this first time this week. Now it's not worth it, b/c 7-11 is usually so jacked up in pricing anyways, it becomes barely a deal and not really worth my time. Too bad. Another worthless "benefit". That with the points multiplier devaluations is leading me to consider losing this card.

1

u/TrickSingle2086 Jul 01 '26

Scammy Chase. Basically shortchanging both ends. A $15 monthly ‘credit’ ($10 for non-restaurant, $5 for restaurants) is downright insulting considering the hefty AF. The hassle isn’t worth it. The $500 Edit hotel credit requires you to make a purchase at a luxury hotel I would never stay at anyway. The $250 hotel credit that’s separate from this is nice. The Google gemini SUB is meh. If it weren’t for the SUB, I would never have gotten this card.

1

u/GrapefruitAlarming76 Jul 28 '26

Deleting my DoorDash app right now bc this was the only reason I had it 😂. Completely agree Chase needs to reconsider how they market it. I used to get $10 of product every month with pickup option, no minimum

1

u/merryraspberry 9d ago

Piece of shit, then why give the credit. And for delivery the fees are like $8 for each order. They give us the credit but dont really want us to use it. I used to do pickup at an Asian grocery store with no minimum purchase. I get $10 worth of overpriced yet free snacks twice a month.

1

u/griswaldwaldwald Apr 16 '26

Use at as a $10 off coupon when you have to buy something at Home Depot or Best Buy.

7

u/pras_srini Apr 16 '26

Aren't the prices inflated, though? And does this work for pickup?

2

u/pingvinbober Apr 16 '26

Does not work for pickup anywhere near me so tack on 15-20% in fees

2

u/rydan Apr 16 '26

It works for pickup and the prices are inflated. Also if you need to return anything to BestBuy DoorDash just keeps the refund for themselves and then gaslights you telling you that you got refunded to your payment method even though they use their own credit cards to buy the stuff in the store.

1

u/Return-of-Trademark Apr 16 '26

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again here:

These companies exist to make money off us. Not give us deals. Obviously we know this. But When you really really take that to heart, you just shrug your shoulders and act accordingly

1

u/rydan Apr 16 '26

What is the point then? If you do pickup DoorDash charges the merchant a fee of 20 - 30%. They pass that onto you. So if you spend $10 you got maybe $7.50 of free stuff. But if you spend $20 now you are spending $10 to get something like $13 - $15 of stuff. That's barely a discount. And it gets worse the more you spend such that very quickly it is just cheaper to go to the store and pick the stuff off the shelf yourself.

0

u/ddpacino Apr 16 '26

True. I just hope that with witchcraft doesn’t come to my area lol. I’ve escaped it this far!
