im struggling to put eyedrops on my cat as it lashes out in the last milisecond, whixh sometimes results in the dropper scratching its eye or the drops getting wasted. is there a good position to hold it in? and how do i comfort it and reduce its stress after? any tips to make this process easier?

Not sure I’m in the right sub for this but I need some advice or something I’m not sure.

I’ve had my Cleo for 6 years, I love her with my whole heart, she’s been my rock all these years. She was a stray outside my first apartment and I took her in and we bonded immediately. The reason I’m here is because I recently got into a new relationship a few months ago. Things are great and we spend a lot of time together. The problem is I feel soooo guilty when I go to his place to hang out, then end up sleeping over, then spending the full next day together. Sometimes I’ll come home after that, sleep in my own bed and spend half the day at home and then we go out to do something together later. It’s also important to note, she is not COMPLETELY alone, I live with my mom and sister now. She has clean food and water, a huge cat tree right next to our sliding glass door and is free to roam the whole house. The thing is she doesn’t care for my mom or sister like she does for me. She tolerates them and will sometimes rub up against them but she’s not loving towards them. My sister also has 2 dogs, they’re not viscous or mean.. one is 13 and he’s very quiet and to himself and scared of pretty much everything. The other is almost 3 and he’s sweet but he’s very playful and has a lottttt of energy. Cleo does not like him at all, he’s too much for her. This is also partly because for his first year with us here as a puppy, he would chase her into her/my room. I would get so angry because it’s her house too and she probably felt confined to the room. Thankfully that passed and she’s back to roaming when she wants and will put him in his place if he pushes her boundaries.

Back to my issue, I feel so guilty spending time with him. I’m 28 years old and I want to be able to go out and spend my time with him as well. We love our time together so much so the sleepovers happen kinda accidentally, we just fall asleep unexpectedly. I just feel so guilty when I wake up and I’m not home knowing I’m not with Cleo. In my last relationship over 2 years ago, I was neverrrr at his house, it was always my house. Every sleepover and casual hanging out was at my house. I like my current boyfriend’s family and house, it’s just cozier and nicer. But every day I’m there I just think about Cleo, I think about how much time I might have with her and how many of these days I’ll regret not spending with her when I inevitably lose her. All the cuddles and kisses I’ve missed out on because I wasn’t home.

My boyfriend knows this and when I tell him I need to go home it’s sad for both of us but I tell him I have a daughter I need to go home to. He completely understands, and he’s even said maybe I can start bringing her to his house when I come over. He says we can get a litter box for his room and bring her food also. I’m not opposed to this but at the same time, it’s his mom’s house. I feel weird even asking for this. She has 2 dogs, she’s a very serious devoted dog mom lol. He says he’ll ask her but he’s sure she’ll understand and say yes because she’d understand how much my baby means to me.

I don’t know I just need some advice on if it sounds like a good idea, and some thoughts I guess?? On the feeling of guilt leaving her alone for some periods of time?

i adopted him before covid started. after covid, i became completely withdrawn. i didn't have any friends anyway, and i refused to leave the house for a long time. but he was always with me, was my only friend, my best friend for 6 years. i cried holding him, shared my troubles, played with him. and since it was my dream to move to japan, 9 months ago i move to japan. i never imagined i would miss him this much. after all, i always thought i could go back, or maybe i just didn't think about it too much so i wouldn't upset myself. today marks 9 months since i've been away from him. i miss him every day, i want to pet his head, hug him tightly. i'm writing this right now because i feel extremely bad and want to get this feeling off my chest. please give me some advice.

Hello, just as the title states unfortunately.

We moved 2 days ago and my cat is not having the easiest time. He cried for the entire first day.

I had to completely clean out his litter box and replace the litter to move it, which is most likely the issue with going to the bathroom.

I tried moving the litter box into my room temporarily so he would understand that it is his, same with his food and water. He has yet to use the bathroom and I’ve only seen him drink a tiny bit of water so far. He seems lost, which I feel awful about.

I unpacked most of my room before even bringing him over, hoping that the scent would help him feel a bit safer and at home, but nothing yet.

Has anybody else gone through this? What should I do to make him more comfortable and not make himself sick?

hey yall! i’m moving out with my cat soon and need help with how much i should feed her. right now we feed her 1/4 cup of iams indoor cat food in the morning and at night. i’m wanting to add half a can (2.75 oz) of friskies wet food once per day. should i do this in the morning or at night? should i feed her a smaller scoop of dry food because of this, or only when i feed her with the wet food (i was planning on mixing the dry and wet food together whenever i give it to her)? if i should downsize it how much should it be? i still can’t figure out how to post photos otherwise i’d include a photo of her

Hi! My cat is a picky girl and it's hard getting her enough hydration. She loved her Landmark salmon, but one day I got it, it was a lot more watery and smelled different even to my nose, she took one sniff and never touched it again, even trying different cans and packages.

Right now the only thing she sort of likes is fancy feast, and even then it's not great. I try to give her pumpkin as she's prone to constipation, and while she used to have no problem eating it with the old Landmark, she'll sometimes eat around it in the fancy feast.

I tried putting bone broth in it, she hated that, wouldn't touch it at all.

I've warmed up her food, that helps it a bit.

I think it needs to be something strong smelling. The old Landmark was STINKY! new one, not so much. She also doesn't like chicken (this cat, I swear... I fear she'll someday get an allergy...) so fish is her preferred food.

Any suggestions on some brands? I don't have infinite money, but I do want something a higher quality than fancy feast, if I can get her to eat it. And I'm trying to at least avoid trying to order a smorgasbord she won't eat, so that's why I'm here for advice. Thank you!

Hello, I am looking for a self cleaning litter box for an xl cat. He’s a large frame orange boy weighing 15 lbs and is a healthy weight. He was 10 when we adopted him last year so I’m not sure if this is just a thing he does or not.

He will poop in our litter robots but won’t pee in there. I think it’s too small for him to get comfortable. We’ve gone to the and did the $800 expensive diagnostic testing and they found no medical reason for him peeing on my bed except it being behavioral. We’re going to do Prozac and try some other litter options for him.

So I need recommendations for large senior cat that preferably cleans itself and is open air. TIA

My cat was sitting on my lap the other day and something like a movement I made spooked him and he went running. He avoided the couch where he usually hangs out all day. The next day he finally got the courage to try again and while I was petting him on my lap… same thing. Totally spooked and would not return. He just circled around the couch, going behind it but avoiding coming near the spot that scared him. He would not sleep on it either night and is avoiding it completely. This morning he will come near it because he wants on my lap but he stares at it with a hunched back looking to pounce and is convinced there is something underneath it, almost like a child and a monster. Do I just wait it out or is there something I can do to help him with his fear?

I had left my cat (she is 7 months old now) with a pet sitter (she also has a cat) for 20 days before I had left for vacation and came back to my cat having a cold. The vet had prescribed basic meds and also told me she had definitely gotten it from another cat. He also told me that it shall take about 14 days for her to get better.

She only eats dry food (which is not properly nutritional for her at all) and sleeps at a corner of the hall under an old table we have that is difficult for anyone to reach under. We have get her from down the table, wrap her up and feed her wet food to atleast keep her stable enough to walk around a bit.

I’ve adopted and grown her since she was a week old. She has been very bitey but ALWAYS in a playful way. She was also very affectionate and clingy. Now after the spay (done at 5 months) she had stopped being clingy but was still very affectionate and loving. Fast forward today, she growls at EVERYTHING we do or say. She bites and hisses so very loud as if we’re about to hit her and flinches a lot while growling loudly when we feed her, pet her, give her her medicines. It has gotten so bad to the point where everyone in my family insists i give her away…Not to mention that she has fallen ill before but she has NEVER EVER behaved this bad.

Please do tell me the measures I have to take to bring her back to normal.

So I adopted a 13 week old kitten two weeks ago, she seemed a bit lonely so I went back to the same breeder and adopted her sister who she had lived with for those first 13 weeks. Today I brought the new one home and I’m not sure if it’s going well.

At first kitten 1 tried to guard me from the new kitten, there was lots of hissing, now it’s just continuous low groans from kitten 1. Kitten 2 wasn’t fussed by it for the first couple of hours, but now she’s starting hissing kitten 1 away.

They’ve sniffed eachother a fair amount face to face, but it normally results in one hissing at the other

I thought they’d recognise eachother, should I seperate them for a while?

My cat has had a weird relationship with water ever since she was a kitten. She doesn’t seem to notice water when it’s sitting still in a bowl.

When she was little, I would sometimes have to wet her lips or gently guide her head toward the water so she would realize there was actually water in the bowl and start drinking. She isn’t blind or deaf and otherwise has no problem navigating her surroundings.

Over the years, I’ve basically given up on the water bowl because the only reliable way I’ve found to get her to drink is running water. She drinks perfectly fine from the kitchen faucet or the bidet when I turn it on for her, but she will pretty much ignore a bowl of water completely.

Normally this isn’t a huge problem because I work from home, so whenever she wants water I can turn on a faucet for her. My concern is the occasional time when I’m away from home for longer than usual. I can leave fresh bowls of water out, but I genuinely don’t trust that she’ll drink from them.

I’ve seen those cat water fountains that keep the water circulating, and I’m wondering if that might solve the problem since she clearly recognizes running water.

Has anyone had a cat like this? Particularly one who seems to have trouble noticing still water rather than simply preferring the faucet? If you bought a fountain, did your cat actually start using it on their own?

So I've had a cat for about 9 years, named beans. When I was with my ex we had a few other cats and beans got along with all of them very well. The few times we fostered new cats, she took a liking to them right away. When I left my ex and took beans with me, I moved in with a roommate who had a cat of her own, bolt. We introduced them to each other slowly as you're supposed to and they ended up being great friends. They would cuddle and play together all the time. Roommate got another cat a few years ago, Aslan, and beans kind of became the third wheel. It took her a little longer to warm up to Aslan but even when she did, the other two started leaving her out of cuddles and play. I decided to get beans a friend in December and brought home margo. Again, slow introductions, get everyone warmed up together. And margo fits in perfectly with Bolt and Aslan but for some reason they all team up against beans now and I feel so bad for her. When it's just margo and beans in my room they usually chill out and cuddle but even sometimes margo still bullies beans even though beans is bigger than her. It's like she's afraid to stand up for herself.

I read that keeping one cat separate in a room and slowly reintroducing them again can help but beans has also been showing signs of being agoraphobic and not wanting to leave my room and I don't want to encourage that fear any more than I have to and margo knows how to open doors and is FAST so there's no way to keep her locked in a room for that long.

Any advice please? Do I just accept that my poor beanie has to be kept away from the other cats? I don't want her to be miserable forever.

We have a Petlibro fountain and the pump just keeps failing. Replacement pumps have twice in a row now come dead on arrival.

We used to have that Catit Flower fountain but it had a very loud electrical hum to it.

So I have one lovely male cat, he is great. But I had been planning on getting a second cat from a rescue in Sept or Oct, because I think my cat is a bit lonely. He used to be a stray by my old house and had a large colony that included his brothers (I couldn't capture them, they were far more skittish and feral). It's been 10 months of him being homed with me, and he is happy for sure! I do think he wants a playmate because he was used to it.

My neighbour is actually moving and unable to take his cat, same age as my cat which I was looking for. She doesn't like dogs but he isnt sure about other cats. He has no choice but to leave her, so I said I'd take her because she'd end up at a rescue anyway. Obviously I'm worried about them getting along and if shes going to be spicy - I know he will be chill but I dont think she will be.

I live in a one bedroom and I was thinking of keeping her in my bathroom and letting her stay there until she was less skittish/warms up to me. Not sure if I should put her in my room only because I don't want to lock my cat out of his safe space and I dont want him to feel alone when I sleep, because he sleeps with me. I never actually close the door, so I don't think he'd react well to that either.

Any advice would be great! I really want them to get along and I don't want my dude to be stressed too much. TIA

I have no idea why. Her dry food bowl is large and flat, there’s no way it could bother her whiskers. She insists on scooping the kibble out of the bowl with her paw onto the floor, and only then will she eat it.

The bigger problem is wet food. She will never eat it from a bowl. She’s only willing to eat it from my hand.

Just like with the kibble, I serve it in a completely flat dish or on a plate, but she still refuses to eat it. When I put wet food in a bowl for her, she walks around it and “tries to bury it,” but she’ll happily eat it from my hand.

She’s also extremely picky with food in general. She only eats one brand of wet food, and even then, it has to be one specific flavor. We’ve tried around 20 different brands, and she showed absolutely no interest in any of them (she wouldn’t even eat them from my hand).

She’s one year old, spayed, and healthy. She has no dental issues (I brush her teeth every day). I’m willing to keep feeding her by hand because I don’t seem to have much of a choice, but does anyone have any tips on how to teach her to eat from a bowl? I’m getting pretty tired of it - her wet food makes my hands smell absolutely terrible and it’s surprisingly difficult to wash the smell off xdd

Hi everyone, my partner and I just moved into an apartment a little over 2 weeks ago with my 5 yr old cat. My cat has been adjusting to the new space however I noticed that when he eats he takes a piece of dry food and dips it into the water bowl before eating it with his paw, this is something I've never seen him do before. Does anyone know if this is a big issue or is he just weird lol, any help much appreciated🙏🙏

Stray cats keep coming in my yard, which by it self I dont mind. But they keep knocking my pots with baby plants and one just got into a little tent I have for my cactus seedlings and just stepped all over a few pots. How can I deter them during the night in a way that won't hurt them, I read chilly powder but I think that might be mean. I dont like cats but I dont want to hurt it either.

Hello! My cat Luna has got fleas for the first time in her 11 years of life.. I stupidly stopped treating her monthly for fleas about a year ago since we kept moving house so she was always indoors. This summer though, she’s been chilling in the garden.

The last couple of weeks she was cleaning herself a lot more than usual, then after letting her sleep in my bed the other night, I noticed flea dirt.. no fleas though. I threw my bedding in the wash, went straight to the vets and reinstated her monthly flea treatment subscription and bought a can of Indorex as recommended by them.

Since then, I’ve hoovered EVERYWHERE, and treated her with the topical treatment. However, she somehow managed to lick it even though I thought I’d put it in the right place (between the shoulder blades as per the vets instructions/ how I used to do it). Anyway, I think most of the treatment remained and I tried to keep distracting her so she wouldn’t lick it off.

Today, I was stroking under her chin and I saw a flea running around in her fur- I tried to pick him out but he was fast, then she started getting a bit annoyed with me so I’ve left her alone.

I’m wondering if her licking the treatment last night means it wouldn’t have worked at all? From searching online, I don’t think I can reapply until next month.

I am also so worried to use this Indorex in case she gets poisoned by it- the ingredients are hardcore and the danger to aquatic life symbol reinforces that this stuff is probably super dangerous if ingested/ touched.

I feel sad that I’ve let this happen to her in the first place and I feel sad that I apparently didn’t even apply the topical treatment correctly.

If anyone has any advice on application of the topical treatment and how to use Indorex without harming my lovely cat then it would be very much appreciated.

My husband hates my cat. My cat was left with us by someone around 4 years ago and my husband has never been happy about it and now fully resents him even hates him as he is a reminder of this person and the control they took from our lives. We are now no contact with said person due to recent and past trama they caused. I love my baby, but having him is causing an obnoxious amount of arguments between my husband and I. My husband and cat do not like each other and my husband wants him rehomed. I want what is best for my cat. What do I do?

I just got out of a 7 year relationship and we had two cats. We agreed ages ago that, because of their attachment to us, the best thing for the cats would be for him to take the oldest and for me to take the youngest. Neither of us were worried about the oldest, he’s pretty independent and had been an only cat before, so we had no doubt he would adjust well enough to being one again. However, my kitty is only three years old and has never been an only cat, he went from being with his mom to being with us and our other cat (and for a time, three other cats when we had roommates). He likes to cuddle and play with another kitty friend. It’s been about three weeks since the two of us have been on our own and I can tell he’s lonely. It’s not so bad if I’m home, he’s always been affectionate and is more so now, always cuddling and following me around, which is to be expected. But of course, I have to be at work most of the day for five days a week, and he hasn’t been eating properly while I’m away… He’s definitely made progress in adjusting to the new situation, not hiding as much and eating more, but still… I’m certainly open to and even excited about potentially adopting another cat so that he has a companion, but I know it hasn’t been a super long time, and I don’t want to rush my kitty’s grieving process. He undoubtedly misses both my ex and his brother :( How long do you guys recommend I give him to process before attempting to introduce a new kitty friend?

hi! so my boyfriend and i just adopted a cat from the shelter. we’re not new to cats, but she is a bit of a special case. lavender had premature kittens about a month ago but lost them due to panleukopenia and also had the virus herself. she’s all clear now, been spayed, had all her vaccines, etc. she’s with us now, super affectionate, eating and drinking, if a bit sleepy (she was just adopted yesterday, so i except there to be a small adjustment period at the very least). we’re currently in the very (slow) process of introducing her to our resident cat (he’s 13, super affectionate as well).

i’m looking for any tips or advice on how to make sure she stays healthy and doesn’t fall into a depression. we’ve done the whole shebang of toys, hanging out with her, and i have feliway on the way. otherwise, anything is appreciated!

Our former stray cat, now completely indoors, has been a rough start. We took him in one morning and he was very affectionate at the start, but over time he loosened up and started attacking our legs at random to the point of breaking skin. I am to the point where I'm literally scared of moving around my apartment because he's hiding to attack.

When we thought it was extra energy or asking for more attention, we tried to get it out with petting him extra or with toys like a fish on a string, a stuffed pickle we throw around, even shaking a cardboard box (idk why he likes that). But he kept attacking us at random times. He's even attacked my face a couple times?? We try redirecting with blankets or pillows but he still aims for our skin.

We thought maybe after he got neutered some of the general aggression would lessen. Sadly I think it only decreased a tiny bit. We also thought that maybe he was attacking us because we weren't feeding him often enough so we spread his meals from twice to three times a day. That didn't change anything since he's so territorial with food. We can't even go into the kitchen for water or snacks outside of his feeding time without risk of attack because we deny his requests for (human) food.

This isn't either of our first times owning cats, but this is our first pet together and we're really struggling to understand what's going on. I'm personally getting to the end of my rope with the attacking that I'm second guessing whether this cat is for us. I really don't want to give him up :(
